Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Actually, I wonder. What would happen if Molly actually died in Arctus Tor and instead of becoming an Infernal, she became an Abyssal who we have theorized to be the Underworld merging with the Wyld.

Dread Queen of all Outer Beings, when?

Right now our Anima is looking at him with with the infinite eyes of our Crown.

When the Abyss gazes at you, you better look away.

Edit:
When the character's anima is flaring, great staring eyes open within its emerald flames, and the Infernal becomes impossible to ambush or strike with an unexpected attack, even if her foe is invisible

No worries there, it's already been discovered. You probably won't be surprised to learn that it's Australian.

Meet the Gympie-Gympie, aka the Suicide Plant, as in it hurts so bad it makes people want to kill themselves.
The stinging persisted for two years and recurred every time I had a cold shower...There's nothing to rival it; it's ten times worse than anything else.[16]
You sure we need Australia around?

Huh, now that I think about it, wood from a Suicide Plant seems like it would be a decent medium to Craft into a magic Focus.

Pain Beams? Pain beams!

I will say this much you do not get to be as old as he is by doing silly things like opening your Sight to look at the hellfire aura of the being that just killed Outsiders

I do note, it's actually distinct from Hellfire.

Hellfire has a signature--overpowering--scent of brimstone and sulfur to it, while Infernal Anima is just a spooky-arse nuclear green with no clear scent to it unless you've intentionally integrated something like that.

It has a clearly spooky eye motif and it is clearly more than mundane fire. I guess you could call it soulfire and it is in a way, just not for souls the world has seen in a long, long time. Generally not the sort of thing one should be looking into if you want a long and non-insane life.

Oh yeah, it's not normal fire either, this is definitely the Spooky Shit.

Still, it does give wiggle room, and at the end of the day. "Can fight Outsiders effectively" is a big argument in Molly's favor.

Just as a rough guideline, is our anima more or less mentally damaging than, say, the naagloshii when seen under the Sight? Because that was on the upper edge of survivable for Harry, and he had to take half an hour in a dark room processing and working through it to not literally go insane.

It might be something we should be warning wizards about, is what I'm saying.

Our anima isn't going to hurt someone as long as they just look at it.

The Sight is another story, it's less because of Cosmic WRONG though and more "Staring into the heart of a star, except you understand everything about it and now your brain is on fire".

Or we could not warn people at all and let the Carpenter Award become the wizard equivalent to the muggles' Darwin Award.

Also it has been marinating in the effluvia at the foundations of the Thousand Hells for who knows how many ages of the world. If it were anything but that it is it would have long since been irrevocably claimed by that place. Instead it now empowers its bearer with the stolen lore and mirrored powers of hell.

... right, so, do we in fact need to be warning wizards not to look at us with the Sight because they'll go insane? Because that will, I assume, be relevant when we get round to having our trial, or indeed when interacting with any wizard going forward. Even a warning of 'this is what you're likely to see, and this is why it looks that way' will be handy.

Fortunately, wizards don't tend to use their Sight lightly, but unless given warning they wouldn't know not to, or even get curious enough at our more obvious differences that they'd risk it.

That's an Exaltation for you!

Anyway, I've been doing some thinking on the matter, really doing some thinking, and I think I've hitched upon the right Aesthetic for Shintai Form.

It's Molly's True Form, her manifestation of Ultimate Strength, the Ideal that she seeks to embody, influenced of course by infernal themes of course but the core functionality is the same. We're not looking at a rag-picker, or something excessively eldritch, because those aren't what Molly thinks about when she envisions Strength.

Papa Carpenter is Strength as far as she's concerned, and he's a sword wielding, literal White Knight dropped into a complex world with the ability to make everything simple. That's her oldest interpretation of Strength, and that's probably going to have a large influence on what her Shintai looks like. The Sword is a start, because in a sense, it's her trying to ape the Sword of the Cross, but she's probably going to have some fancy form of armor going on.

Then of course, there's Dresden, mister Super Wizard Himself, who's one of the Wise--who uses his power to make things a little bit better for everyone instead of hide in his bunker and do Very Important Things that nobody actually gets to know about because they're just too plebian to care. He casts spells and doesn't afraid of anything, and he makes Magic something good instead of something that just exists except when it's causing problems.

Then, of course, you've got to feed all of this through a blender that is a genuinely faithful upbringing, her love for pop culture and latent nerd energies, and her like for gothic architecture and aesthetics. Add infernal themes as spice, and you've got all the pieces to create a flavorful Shintai that actually matches Molly's history, personality, and everything else.

So, what do we get out of that?

Probably some super anime-as-fuck cross between Sauron, probably get one of those wild Asura's Wrath halo mandala things characters in it manifest when they're going All In, and slight hints of a more mystic nature that carry through with the eye.

Of course, I don't really know how to piece this together, because I can't really hold a picture in my head, but the words feel right.

EDIT: Maybe use Mordred's armor (From Fate) as a baseline and tailor it up to fit? That seems to hit that wiggle room between knightly armor and supervillain aesthetic that you can attach the other details on.

Oh and since you guys were talking earlier about solars having an unfair advantage in surviving, I'm just going to leave this charm here

Splintered Gale Incarnation (•••••)
The Infernal flays herself apart, creating duplicates of herself.

System: The Infernal spends 5 Essence and screams, issuing forth a crimson gale that resolves into a perfect copy of herself. This clone comes into the world naked, perfectly loyal to its creator, precisely aware of what it is, and in possession of the same personality and memories as the Infernal. It has the same Traits as the Infernal, but is completely mortal, with no magic of any sort. Alternately, if the Infernal possesses a working uterus, she can use this Charm to impregnate herself. This parthenogenetic child will grow up to be a perfect physical duplicate of the Infernal, but is otherwise a normal human being. The Infernal can have up to her Essence rating in clones alive and active at once. By spending 1 Essence, she can cause a clone within her presence to unravel back into crimson wind which she absorbs, granting her all of the memories the clone accumulated during its existence. If the Infernal wishes, she may re-create specific absorbed clones in the future when using Splintered Gale Incarnation.
If the Infernal should ever die while any of her clones are abroad in the world, her body dissolves into a screaming wind that streams across the world and pours itself into the nearest clone. This destroys the clone's memories and identity as the Infernal takes over its body. Reincarnating in this fashion reduces the Infernal's Essence rating by 1. If this would reduce her to Essence 0, then reincarnation is impossible.

Horcruxes, but better because you can have them do work, and yes it is ethical to make them because they are you so in the moment of their creation they would agree to be made by definition. Just don't mistreat them and you are fine. Also make sure the clone you use as an Horcrux, that is the one who is nearest to you is in stasis so you are not destroying any memories.

Its a good charm, but I would actually say most of its use is creating alibi, meetings where you specifically need to be and have knowledge you can't share and make someone your representative, bait for traps etc.

Losing a level of Essence really hurts, even if technically its better than death. The City Still Stands is great though.

Now thats a good survival Charm and something we 100% should get later.

Edit: I am also worried that anything that can kill us through City Still Stands, Shintai etc would be able to trap the Gale carrying our souls before it flees.

Otherwise, yeah. Leaving just one in stasis inside a magical bunker works.

Trying to trap the flaying winds from the same facet of your power that can break any compulsion is... unlikely to be a common ability, even among such beings as could kill you. It is the fundamental theme of the Hell of Being Skinned alive that it goes really fast and it goes through things.

Its not common, but even disregarding the Exaltation being imprisoned at the start here, I don't want to be stuck in Jade Prison 2.0

Just as a precaution.

Paranoia is better than hubris.

Something like this?

The infernal draws her sword and raises it into a guard. With a sudden shift molten brass begins to flow up her sword arm, even as dark ice begins to form over her skin.

As the brass spreads it takes on an impossibly bright, nearly golden, gleam and forms into the idealized image of a knight's suit of armor.
at the joints and other places where the plates do not fully cover her chainmail of deep black ice can be seen, highlighting the armor plates with the contrast.

As the flow of metal reaches her neck, the infernal's hair transforms into a dense stream of the flaying winds of hell, the endlessly flowing red grit streaming upward like she's facing into a gale.

When the metal reaches her head it forms a solid helmet but rather than a visor its front is completely sealed. It's surface is shaped into an image of the infernal's face, eyes closed, with an expression of serene confidence.*

at the peak of the helmet the metal takes hold of the infernal's mane of wind, shaping it so that the dense red grit it carries seems to form a cross between a backward swept plume and a mohawk.**

Simply appearing of its own accord, an obsidian scepter finds its way onto the infernal's left hip. Dull coppery runes run along it's length, vaguely reminiscent of those uses in mortal magic.

Should the infernal draw it, she may pulse her essence down it's length; causing a dull green glow to travel along the runes, brightening as it goes. At the tip a column of green-white fire will erupt, striking at whatever it's aimed at.

*Rather than doing something overt, Molly's crown is present as the ability to see despite the fact that she clearly shouldn't be able to. Which is a fun nod without becoming a dominating thematic element.

** Molly does enjoy her fun hair colors, and it clearly means something to her. Particularly in regards to her relationship with her parents.

[] Shintai: All that Glitters
-[] Aspect: Demon Armor (Brazen Armor)
-[] Aspect: Energy Projection (Obsidian Scepter)
-[] Aspect: Swift Stride (Knight's Stride)
-[] Aspect: Hardened Devil Body x4 (Icy Chain)

Not mechanically optimal, but it touches on most of her core themes decently well.

It's too bad energy projection is so bad, it works really well for including a Harry themed link to magic in Molly's Shintai.
