Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Everybody gets the chance to reject wish automatically. Nobody in Dresden Files worth using it on, is dumb enough to think random wish out of nowhere is a good idea. Even after that it only a Perception + Awareness D8 roll to realize the price, pretty much anybody above pure mooks can make that. Also dropping 5 essense on anybody puts us in danger can be killed mode so their is that to.

That's why you stack the deck and weaken the opponent first, so that they fail the rolls.

Artemis is right:
I'm pretty sure the real point of VEE was always to make people owe you.
It's a Cecelyne cult-building Charm.

It's a cult building charm, the effect after three years is too slow and weak to be the main point, the interest is all that's before. It isn't there to give you an army of strong mooks, one dot is not enough for that, it's there to make people pray towards you and strike bargains.

On the subject of powerful people desperate enough to wish even knowing the costs.

Papa Raith "I wish for this death curse around me to be dispelled!"

That's too narrow, I feel. Ask what the plan is instead. That should include both the timing and what they are planning to do (inflitration, all out assault, SWATting the mansion and using that as a cover, nuking it from high altitude with a salvaged nuke, etc).

Propably not worth it.

He's been the King for too long, I don't trust him to serve Molly under any binding we could make.

Lara has much more experience standing behind the throne, much better White Queen under the new Empress.

False Springs Beckon (•••) would like be a better for the purpose. Suppress his curse rather then remove it and the suppression immediately goes away if he doesn't regularly renew it or denies us anything.

VEE is to be used on already established allies who can trust us that our requests wouldn't be dangerous or exploitative. And it is to be used for large scale reality manipulation. Because while the person being granted a wish can deny it, if they don't, no one else gets a word. So, "I wish to meet aliens" wish being granted as either allies: reticulans or mentor: Jor-El will force the world to twist enough that the first contact is made. If someone wanted for Lucifer to fall in love with them? Yeah, I am fairly sure Lucifer would be forced to mass spam perfects and employ their own Fate manipulation to avoid this fate. Basically, VEE can be used to actually target people, factions and events other than its nominal "target". And by RAW they don't get protection. And in the sane ruling, any such protection would be super-costly and hard to maintain, because that's a 5 dot charm.

VEE only gives allies one dot at a time, even assuming the devil were not inclined to contest it the target would get at most a foot into the infernal hierarchy. Mind 'you can now use hellfire because I say so' is still terrifying in its implications, just not on the scale of the devil falling in love with someone.

Papa Raith "I wish for this death curse around me to be dispelled!"
Papa Raith murdered Dresden and Thomas' mother because she ran away from him.

He murdered a procession of women with magic just to spite a porn director who decided to open up a rival production company, when he could have simply let them be, or tried to buy them out.
He tried to kill Dresden and Thomas both, and was going to sexually assault Murphy.

The likelihood of Molly willingly doing a deal with him is somewhat less than a snowballs chance in hell.

We dont currently know if there is a plan. Or if they intend to attack.
Besides, if we know who they have in the Chicago area, we get a good idea of their capabilities and resources, and what options are open to them.

Assuming that the identities of their personnel in the area cant be used as foci, is why I am holding some focuses back in reserve, like the bloody clothes of our prisoner, and the image of the wood stork that attacked our car.

I was thinking more about "allies: hell" Background, rather than a buff of any kind. Note that I only just started looking into what various backgrounds there are, but what I have seen already can be used for just plain silly shenanigans. Like, "spirit heritage", "pure breed" and maybe kinfolk, and declaring that the target is actually a descendant of one of the fallen. Past Lives has a lot of potential. Avatar background is either mantle forging or being able to manufacture wizards. Even mentor 1 can be potent, as Lydia shows. Giving Dresden Mentor 1: First Merlin or something like that could have implications.

VEE is meant to model the classic deal with the devil type stories, where someone does a deal with the devil in exchange for their soul. It even goes as far as having no major consequence until VEE is applied three times, directly paralleling all the stories where the bargain would give the person three favors/wishes, and on the fulfillment of the third the payment comes due.

Attempts to turn it into another minion-making charm that is spammable kinda miss the point of the charm.
At least in this AU.

Allies Hell One would get you an in with the Denarians, their little cult would think you are a trusted ally. You cannot use people who are no longer around for Allies or Mentor you would have to acquire the First Merlin in body or spirit first

  • [X]Plan Question Time
-[X] Head off at once to interrogate the prisoner with Lara, save your power for later
-[X] Clippy/Cyberdevils: Call 911 Emergency for the victims on the road. Use an online anonymizing service
-[X] Take possession and search through the prisoner's clothes
    -[X] Crown Questions:
--[X] Chase Scene: Motorcylist/motorcycle: What allies/associates/minions of the entity/sorcerer whose attack injured this person/disabled their bike are in the Chicago area?
--[X]Arrival Scene: Disabled Van: How long before the associates of the entity who disabled/damaged this van will attack the Raith estate?
-[X]STUNT: You arrive in a surprisingly well-equipped infirmary with Lara Raith to see the prisoner being attended to, with one of the medics cutting his bloody clothes off and putting him in one of those backless medical gowns even as others hook up a confusing array of medical monitors and tubes. You note, but dont comment on the straps binding him to the bed, or the pair of armed guards by the entrance, choosing to go through the contents of his clothes as Lara talks in low tones to the medics before they adjust some. In what seems only moments, he comes to seeming full wakefulness, his eyes wild. You step into his field of view without preamble as with a thought you are crowned in green light. "Your boss just tried to pull your skeleton out of your" you make a wordless, yet expressive gesture "everything. And then we were attacked on our way here. I would like to know why." You pull a chair up by the side of his bed, his lifeblood still on your chainmail."Start talking."
[X] Use the crown on one of the security personnel to find the plan of an attack
[X] Use the crown on the Estate itself to find the timeline of an attack

Apropos nothing, but just thought I'd make a media public service announcement, if anyone here wants to take a look at the new Netflix Cleopatra docudrama to see what all the fuss is about, do yourselves a favor and don't.
1. Cleopatra was actually loved by her subjects, solely because she actually interacted with their religion instead of ignoring it like the rest of the Ptolemies did, solely for the political support it would get her though. She wasn't conventionally attractive (that was Augustus doing 'she's a vamp' propaganda) but the woman was certainly charismatic (enough to get rampant and renowned playboy Caesar to fall for her) and given the army of tutors from Alexandria she had and certainly took advantage of according to many accounts, there's a honest argument for her being the most educated woman present in the historical record for all of Classical Antiquity. There's decent reasons to admire the woman is what I'm saying.

2. The show was literally made by a batshit Hotep who says they made it because it came to them in a recurring dream. That alone when paired with them just... ignoring the historical reality of Cleopatra being Macedonian/Greek/etc to play to the Hotep obsession with that one dynasty of Ethiopian pharaohs by casting Cleopatra as African is enough reason to not watch it.

...Why didn't they just make this thing as historical fiction? It would have been fine as historical fiction, hell the acting is decent, the sets are occasionally nice to look at. It would have been fair to middling as historical fiction goes if it did not take itself too seriously.

Giving Knights of the Cross Allies: Denarians would actually do a f*ckton to advance their mission of redeeming said Denarians, especially if pooled backgrounds are in play.

Also, it's a damn shame about those no longer around being ineligible for the Mentor role. I mean, I fully understand it, otherwise it'll be Mentor: Bright Shattered Ice and Allies: Ligier Shin Giri Malfeas all around. Madness all around.

Of course, there's Past Lives for that, I guess.

The Knights themselves and most people of deep faith might take some persuasion to use VEE since it's quite literally selling their souls to you even if you do promise not to use it

Reminder that this:

Is also in in their real history section… it's a show about ancient aliens, so, yeah.

I would not trust Netflix to tell me that the sky is blue nowadays is what I mean. These guys are about as trustworthy with their sources as hollywood, except they are trying to pass it of as reality.

That would have made a decent SF Premise as well. Sometimes I wonder where we would be if Erich von Daniken had just gotten into science fiction back at the seminar instead of concluding that he has cracked some grand historical mystery/conspiracy.

Until 3rd wish it's not really selling your soul? I mean, it's "a favor for a favor" kind of a deal, and I trust at least Michael to have enough faith (heh) in his daughter to believe that she won't abuse the terms.

We probably would be wondering what would've happened if his remplacement did the same thing, repeat ad nauseam.

Ancient aliens is not a new idea and he's not the only moron claiming it is his idea and other copied him, if it wasn't him there would still be that one hindi guy that claims the same and others… unfortunately.

Worse, there is a video on Kurzgesagt about what real Ancient Aliens would mean, and the fact that there might have been civilizations before humans, the guy is stupid because of the timeline and level of technology he claims for his ancient civilization, not for the idea that there was one in and of itself.

Funnily enough, he might be right in this fic's verse!

But frankly, I would find it funnier if he was still wrong.

It could be argued you are if only for the span of a single deed since you have to obey the person who grants it or go to their hell
