Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

I am trying to think from an outside perspective. If I wanted to ambush Molly where and when would I catch her.

Not at Carpenter home obviously threshold is strong.

Undertown; maybe, but it's hard to judge just how good the defenses are and the area is full of Molly's allies.

Ordo Lebes meeting; better than the last two options but still more unknown magic power then seems comfortable.

School; Definitely a possibility if you don't care about sunlight or keeping a low profile, but otherwise awful.

Harry's house; It's happened before we really should see about setting up some cyberdevils to watch the sightlines around that place. One sniper is more than enough.

Can't think of any other places where it's easy to predict that Molly is going to be there ahead of time.

In transit if you do not care about making a loud mess. At Carpenter house if you have a purely mortal PMC on call who are willing to demolish a house in core USA territory. Angel bodyguards and a strong threshold don't protect against purely mortal agents. In fact, just SWATTING Carpenter household would be a viable tactic to at least distract Molly.

Fate BS does. So any SWAT or mortal agents will find themselves hobbed.

Don't you think that postponing our meeting with Odin for another month can be very dangerous? He is not known for his all-forgiving nature. Also, if we make a good impression he can give us a few pointers about Mab or our Exaltation. We probably will be able to negotiate for some hired help with our aggressive negotiations with servants of Emma-O.

[X] With Odin, and Last Station
-[X] Attend school you have friends at school and you would like the memories of senior year and graduation even if they won't be teaching you anything worthwhile (If neither School nor getting your GED is chosen Molly will systematically skip class)
-[X] Deal with the servants of Karuri, diplomatically or otherwise they must be removed from the city before their darkness can spread. If you know anything about the Yama Kings, and you know an enough to make a soul uneasy, this is unlikely to be resolved without bloodshed
-[X] The Bridges of the Spirit, continue your training with Brother Divsimar not in the ways of the spirit but the mind, the Bridge of Dreams
-[X] Father of Hosts: It's not often someone gets a business card from Odin, or maybe it is, you are no expert on Norse Gods turned private military contractors, go talk to him and see what he wants and what he has to offer
-[X] Restoring the Last Station: Restoration efforts have been going well and according to Adam some more of the people down in the tunnels have shown interest in their newfound wealth and comfort (3/8)
-[X] Get ready for your meeting with Queen of Winter Fae: prepare a suitable meeting place, and preemptively gather intel with your crown. Lydia's library and treasury probably have something that can be used as a focus; Harry might be able to suggest something too.

We are not on a timeline for Odin, he did not request or expect a meeting.

If we met him, it would be out of our own interest.

Also our soak is at "has as much to worry about police as a loup-garou" levels and our social skills are strong enough to convince them that this all a big misunderstanding. White God doesn't have to work to hard. It isn't like the house is in a place of Desolation. The police are going to be thinking something is weird from the start.

I just have to ask - are you seriously not going to prepare for meeting with Mab? We need every advantage we can get, and that requires prior setup.
WoG is that meeting with Mab is a free action.
Hence I dont see the point here.
If not, I would be dropping the Cauldron action.

Wnat I dont see is people trying to run into a meeting witn Odin when we literally have serious problems at home to deal with.
The Pale King is in Chicago, and we havent made contact with any of his reps despite literally taking in multiple Whamps and looking to acquire more.

And we currently have no independent way to go to Odin's place.
So we'd be reliant on other people ferrying us through the NeverNever.
That makes no goddamn sense. At all.

Meeting itself is free. Prepping for the meeting, if we want to take it seriously, is not. Stuff like renting Mac's or finding another location. Looking for foci to use to learn of Mab's plans and adjust our strategy accordingly. We need every advantage we can get.

And we can't drop Cauldron - we made a promise to train Olivia until Christmas, when we'll give her a choice of unchaining her inner devils or going on as a mortal. That's a heavy promise and one I intend to keep.

I'm sorry, but I think you've just invented this problem. If Gard declined to ferry us to Odin like she did to Dresden IC, we would use RVD to reach Oslo(according to wiki and our visiting card, probably) in no time. But I think she won't, because ferrying chosen heroes to Odin is her job description.

1)He doesnt live in our city like Lara Raith and the White King do.

2)He doesnt give free information unless it suits his purposes. Note how Dresden still knows fuckall about what a Starborn is?
And its doubtful he knows our Exaltation if freaking Kakuri who tried to wield it as a weapon know nothing about it.
It wasnt buried in the heart of his Power like it was in Mab's.

3)He isnt going to stick out his neck to side against Mab for no good reason.
He isnt her vassal, but bears a Mantle of Winter, and he has worked with Mab for centuries.
He respects her.

4)We have seen his hired help in canon.
Einherherjar arent specced to deal with Akuma or Skinwalkers. Valkyries are rare enough that he only sends them out one at a time. And the rest of the Norse pantheon are doing their own thing; see Battlegrounds, where none of them show up.

5)He isnt impatient.
He didnt reveal himself to Dresden for at least five extra years after the First Valkyrie showed up in Chicago.
We are in no rush there.

In video game terms, he's a non-time sensitive side mission.

1)My understanding is that its supposed to be a Free Action.
Just like dealing with the servants of Kakuri is a single action encompassing the entire situation however it turns out, meeting Mab is going to be a single action encompassing THAT situation. Hotel/Mac's et cetera.

Devoting extra AP there just feels like overkill. Especially given as we have Kakuri and a skinwalker (edit: to worry about).

2)November and December would be two AP worth of training.
If we use the second AP we get in December on Cauldron stuff, that becomes 3AP.
If we use every extra AP(we get +1AP in Nov, and +2AP in December) on this, that becomes 5 AP.

We can afford to drop it at need for this month. I dont want to, but we could.

I didnt.
RVD doesnt actually allow you to take anyone else with you.
And its in my opinion, foolhardy IC to show up at the heart of Odin's power unescorted.

Or frankly, to show off that we can do that yet.

Dont assume that Odin is our friend just because he was helpful to Dresden in canon.
Or that he's allowed to interfere with Molly and matters around her.
They dont necessarily follow.

Also worth noting that we know that a senior member of the White Court is tied up in the skinwalker situation.
Thats an actual time sensitive reason to touch base with Lara Raith.
In a way that Odin is not; Gard didnt give us a time window to meet her boss.

Meeting her is a free action, preparing for it, which is important, is not. You are giving up on advantages by not taking this action, and we do need as many as we can, we wouldn't want to give a bad impression because we took it too casually, do we?

Really, after all this talk about meeting Mab, all this paranoia about us needing all the advantages we can, all the discussion on what part of our build we should dedicate to this one meeting, some people want to not use an AP to prepare? Seems strange to give up on that part when the simple fact it is there means it will help.

......I approval voted for you and Uju32.

Also best you go back and edit your plan vote as it is messing up the counter.

Also your plan WAS winning or was only 1 vote behind till you voted Yog.

Hadn't seen that, oops

Was doing it when you were writing, fixed now.

I know, I am actually thinking of going back after checking the tally and seeing that, I just didn't think this was possible, not in this thread, too accustomed to not voting for my own plans there.

Yeah, I've found it.

This was Arc 5 and we received invitation much earlier.
No, you are misreading that.
Gard gave us Odin's card on July 22nd 2006.
Arc 2 Post 27 said:
Darn, there goes that idea. After explaining what you understand and that you had seen of Matthews' magic you ask one more question: "What does the Wanderer do these days?"

For the firs time in the conversation Gard smiles, though the twitch of her lips is gone so fast you might have imagined it. She hands you a business card with marked with a circle bisected by a straight line. Omega and Iota overlapped, you realize looking more closely, every last detail, but it also kind of looks like an eye and a cut over it, the blind and all-seeing eye. The card also have an address in thick gothic lettering and of course a phone number. "I'd rather let him explain it, he's better at it than me"

"In other words it is likely her patron has a proposition for you, but one she does not wish to make before your sire," Usum hisses in the back of your mind.

"Thanks," you quickly put Odin's business card in your purse. you would be lying if you said you are not curious. That still sounds surreal to think... but probably not as much as it should.
That was just a week over 2 months ago.
We are well within the 6 month time window that I consider reasonable to getting our life together.
Even Mab gave us 3 months before calling her up; if we used the same reckoning we'd be talking to him in November.

And the implications of that entire exchange is that he wants to offer us a job.
Not to give us free help.
Just like Mab wants to talk to us for her own purposes.

Odin is a quest-giver, in videogame terms. Not a party member.

EDIT
I mean, its worth remembering that Odin knows from public records that we are still officially a high school student.
Living at home with her parents.
We dont turn 18 until November.

1) He asked us for a meeting and became our problem long before Lara Raith or the White King.

2) He doesn't. But I think that he didn't hang on the yew for nothing and we can ask him for a price.

3) I interpret his relationship with Mab like the Plantagenets' one with the French crown (a vassal for one of his titles, an independent soverign for the others). I believe he owes us for helping with his mess with the fallen valkyrie, he at least can offer some insight in her aims. And I don't see any action that will help us to deal with Mab in your plan.

4) Let's ask the PMC contractor about abilities of his people, ok? Besides, maybe, he will offer us some information about our enemy.

5) I quoted QM's post on the matter. And on the time scale he became our problem long before the others, except Mab.

I didnt.

He invited us, so I don't expect any aggressive action. About escort: if Gard agrees to be our guide, we will have escort, if not - jokes on him: plan RVD and Oslo public transportaion is a go! Also, we can run in Oslo...
