Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

1) He asked us for a meeting and became our problem long before Lara Raith or the White King.

2) He doesn't. But I think that he didn't hang on the yew for nothing and we can ask him for a price.

3) I interpret his relationship with Mab like the Plantagenets' one with the French crown (a vassal for one of his titles, an independent soverign for the others). I believe he owes us for helping with his mess with the fallen valkyrie, he at least can offer some insight in her aims. And I don't see any action that will help us to deal with Mab in your plan.

4) Let's ask the PMC contractor about abilities of his people, ok? Besides, maybe, he will offer us some information about our enemy.

5) I quoted QM's post on the matter. And on the time scale he became our problem long before the others, except Mab.
1)He didnt ask us for a meeting. Gard gave us his business card to call on him at our leisure.
Not the same thing.

2) Our entanglement with the White Court started when Thomas came along to save us at Arctis Tor.

We have the White King's only son as our financial advisor. We prevented the White King's eldest daughter from buying Kattrin's car. We've recruited four young Whampires, and prevented a White Court elder from murdering a federal agent.
A White Court noble is entangled with the skinwalker business. And their headquarters live in our city.

The White Court is a lot more pressing than Old One Eye.

3)No, he doesnt owe us for Kattrin.
What debt might have existed was cancelled by the fact that Gard showed up and offered her very expensive services(according to Marcone, who should know) for free.
And his pre-existing relationship with Mab might dictate that he share whatever information he gathers on us prior to our meeting.

4)WoG is that meeting Mab is a Free Action. So I didnt consider that necessary.

5)We have canon feats for the Einherjar and his Valkyries. Including Battlegrounds, where both Gard and Freydis participated.
We've also seen Gard fight in this quest, and we killed Kattrin Sigfridsdottir, who used to be a Valkyrie before murdering three Valkyries, in a one on one battle when we were barely a month past our Exaltation.

We have a reasonable benchmark for what his demigoddess are capable of mid-combat in this AU.

As an aside, do recall that Odin is not actually running a PMC.
He's a political and magical Player who sends out people under that guise for political purposes, not to make money.
There is no way that he's going to specify his people's powers where anyone can get them by just asking for a contract quote.

6)So did I.
Mab gave us three months, and she is coming to Chicago to meet us, where our father lives.
She can expect to meet him, and isnt worried about it.

Odin, otoh knows we are a legal minor until November.
And his champion deliberately avoided talking about his interests in front of our father.
He will not seriously expect us to show up before we are 18.

He invited us, so I don't expect any aggressive action. About escort: if Gard agrees to be our guide, we will have escort, if not - jokes on him: plan RVD and Oslo public transportaion is a go!
In Changes, Odin crushed Dresden with his willpower alone as a demonstration of power levels and the hazards of walking into the heart of someone else's Power.
He did this after sending Gard to invite him over.

He didnt intend to kill him, but it was as much an evaluation of Dresden meant to gather information about him as it was information to Dresden.
Do not blithely walk into the HQs of old Powers like you're out on a fieldtrip.

2)November and December would be two AP worth of training.
If we use the second AP we get in December on Cauldron stuff, that becomes 3AP.
If we use every extra AP(we get +1AP in Nov, and +2AP in December) on this, that becomes 5 AP.

We can afford to drop it at need for this month. I dont want to, but we could.
This isn't how it would look to Olivia IC. I am concerned that, thinking we reneged on our promise, she'll look for alternative means of training.

OOC that's a lot of AP. IC that sounds like "promises, promises, promises", and she has no way to comprehend how good an exalted magic teacher can be.

Besides, if I am right, there's a chance we'll get her as a circle mate. I would rather overspend here, then underspend.

Plus, the action is about the whole circle, not just Olivia. I want them im a much better place then they are now in regards to training.
And its doubtful he knows our Exaltation if freaking Kakuri who tried to wield it as a weapon know nothing about it.
Odin is famous for giving his eye and hanging himself for arcane knowledge. I would put more money on him knowing what we are than Mab, who might think she knows, but is very likely wrong about a lot of stuff.

Arranging training for her shouldn't take any more effort than making a few phone calls, or maybe just a single call to Thomas and asking for him to take care of it.

If we are doing magical training, that would require a lot more involvement. Our ghouls can probably train her in stealth, and we could probably arrange a Melee tutor (even if we can do it better), but an occult tutor would be almost impossible to find.

And the option is not limited to Olivia.

1)I dont agree.
Olivia was there when we met the emissary of Kakuri's agent. She knows that we are scheduled to meet them this month.
She EXPECTS us to be busy this month.

2)IC we literally just joined Cauldron *snerk* in September. Its only been a couple weeks.
I think you might be allowing Exalted timespans to give you a false impression of how long normal people take to do stuff.
Or what they expect.

Also, Lydia is in play.

3)There's a reason I wanted to spend time training Sorcery.
Enchantment 1 gives us Mentat Stones, both Matrices and Inhibitors, which we can make for every Cauldron member.
Its the single most immediate hardpower measure we can take in the shorrt term.

But we have an Akuma Interrupt to deal with.
That takes priority.
Odin is famous for giving his eye and hanging himself for arcane knowledge. I would put more money on him knowing what we are than Mab, who might think she knows, but is very likely wrong about a lot of stuff.
I dont agree.
We have a Marcone Interlude where the thousand year old Gard explicitly says that after research, she still has no idea what we are.
And she has access to Daddy Odin's library, resources and the god himself.

Monoc have a magical security contract with Marcone, which Molly showing up certainly falls under, so while they arent fae, they arent likely to lie to him. Breach of contract has magical and reputational consequences in the Dresdenverse.
If they knew but didnt want to say, her reply would be different.

Mab otoh has literally had possession of the thing for centuries.

Lydia is right there, with her library resources.
And as Anna Ash demonstrated when we mentioned the Jade Court, we are probably underestimating local Occult knowledge.
Not like they need more than Occult 1-2 for day to day life.

Why would Olivia need magical training? Sure, her very limited but surprisingly powerful ability might one day be trained to do more than create a personal veil, but that's not a short-term endeavor and she wants results more quickly than that.

Short-term training for Olivia should involve self-defense, firearm handling, stealth, infiltration, etc., i.e. skills that can be taught by muggles who we pay for their time.

Hell, give the girl a gun and a knife to use while invisible (and the confidence and training to use them well) and she becomes quite deadly to even a lot of supernatural creatures due to the effectiveness of her veil.

I too want a supernaturally stealthy ninja. Olivia, however, doesn't have control over her ability. Part of her training would require such for certain.

Given the fact that I do consider prepping for Mab more important than just meeting Odin (though I do consider meeting Odin as prepping for Mab), I would urge all those that voted for me or Yog to chose one or the other, at this point preferably Yog since he's already winning, to make sure we actually prepare for the meeting that everyone wanted to prepare for since several arcs.

I wouldn't be remiss on people voting for me, but I don't want Uju to win due to vote splitting only, because it is the only reason he's that close to it, most of us agree on preparing for Mab, so, once again, vote for Yog, Odin can wait longer, he did only gives us a card, even if I am beginning to think it's been too long, we at least have an excuse right now.

That could be a confidence issue as much as one of training. If we fund an extended training montage for her to boost her confidence, it could have a positive impact on her veil control as well.

Even if it doesn't and she requires specialized instruction, that doesn't need to happen immediately. Just making the effort and spending the cash to arrange training for her is a simple and quick way to get the ball rolling and to show her that we weren't blowing smoke up her ass when we said we would help. It's a minor commitment on our part that can put her at ease and possibly prevent her from doing something stupid looking for alternatives.

[X] Obligations and meetings

I want to get the last station done. It's our proto domain (as later we will get a hell that will supplant it, but not for a while). We want it to be healthy and useful as soon as possible.

Also, question - Does the ability to suppress the hunger of our servants apply to organizations? If, for example and purely theoretically, we got the white court as a whole, or even a subset of it, to work for us could we suppress their hunger all in one go?

Also also, funny potion use suggestion

The alchemical path of innumerable gainz
- This is a method to use alchemy to enhance mortal servants to the peak of what they are capable without direct magical enhancement. This method uses three potions to allow mortals to push themselves right up to the edge of what they are capable of being. The first potion used is an ability enhancer aimed at physical conditioning. The user drinks these potions as soon as they wear off to maintain a continuous bonus to their efforts to physically condition themselves. The second potion is an alchemical energy potion to allow the user to mostly forgo sleep. This allows them to train for more hours each day. The third potion is a healing potion that speeds recovery. This method works by not directly enhancing the mortal servants, but rather enhancing their ability to enhance themselves. They spend a week in a cycle of continuously working out until they receive bashing damage from overwork followed by resting and eating until they recover. The healing potion ensures their recovery times are minimal. The ability enhancer ensures their time training is put to maximum use. The energy potion ensures the amount of time they can devote to the effort is maximized. The goal is to put as much mundane muscle onto a mortal or near mortal servant as quickly as possible.

August, actually. More than a month ago.
*checks*
You're right. My apologies.
We joined 25 August. We received the akuma on 30 September, and made Olivia the offer same night. Its currently 1 October.
So 5 weeks since we joined.

My other point holds true though.

Olivia was there when we told every Cauldron member to shelter in place for at least the next week because Jade Court.
She has normal people expectations about how long these things take.
And Lydia is also an Exalt, and her friend as well; more her friend than Molly, given that Lydia invited her to the ghost ball.

And Emma-O, who is older than fae courts, has access to older knowledge and is more aligned with jt arcanely, had it for longer still, and still has no idea what it is. Yes, Mab is, arguably, closer to a human being that might qualify for an exaltation, but I doubt it helped much.
1)Emma-O isnt older than the Fae Courts.
The Courts have explicitly been the footsoldiers at the Gates essentially forever.
This Mab was around when the last Titans were according to Ethniu.

The only real change is now they dont have other pantheons backing them up, but have been promoted to full manager.
A business analogy is that they worked their way up from floor worker to CEO.

2)We dont know how long Emma-O had Usum's shard.
We know it was lying in Yomi Wan for ages before it was dug up, and was in the hands of one set of guys before falling into Emma-O's. Could have been hundreds of years or six months.

The fact that we have Kakuri akuma trying to interrogate us about its secrets indicates he knows fuckall.

By contrast, Mab actually offered knowledge about it.
And while Fae can be deceptive, they arent allowed to lie, so when she made the offer, she was making a genuine offer.

3)Mab's portfolio is broader and way more powerful than Emma-O's.
She has the actual mojo to look and make sense of what she's seeing.
Emma-O evidently doesnt.

She also has Mother Winter behind her, who has even more lore about the deep things of the world, and significantly more power.
Emma-O doesnt.

And lastly, Mab has the actual metaphysical heft to trade with people who have been explicitly mentioned to have some idea.
Like capital-D Dragons.
Emma-O doesnt.

Olivia, itself, doesn't need theory (only). She needs to get better at controlling her gift.
So, like I said, Enchantment 1: Mentat Stones.

It convinced me, because unlike Uju I don't think DragonParadox would give us an option costing AP that wasn't worth something. So I think it's important to prepare for Mab.
