Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

We really could use a human resources department. A capable middle manager willing to work for us full time would be worth their weight in gold at the moment.
We literally took in random monsters from beneath the streets though.

Not like we did an application-test for the Ghouls or the Whampires.
People off the street are safer; at least most of them aren't working for someone who means us ill.

It's also worth noting that as an Akuma an unknown amount of his soul belongs to Emma-O. Which makes him a vulnerability in our organization even if he doesn't want to be.

I second this.

With the ghouls we know where their loyalty is. Not with this guy.

As has been told several times in the thread, Murder is Meat text says it destroy the essence of those it's used on, so it's a true spirit killer here.
ah, so it got homebrewed here. oh well.
Just for a note, I like wod flavor more. especially as it gives you option to send defeated enemies into your own hell.

That's not telling it dissipates spirits, that's telling it's slicing their already dissipating substance into stray motes, so it does things to the process that allows them to reform, and that something is destroying it.

Note how the word destroy is not present there. Slicing something up does not annihilate it past the point of reconstruction. It just cuts it up and leaves some residue that the infernal benefits from.

A Wan Kuei could slice a spirit into pieces of essence and eat them and that wouldn't prevent the spirit coming back, because a spirits' 'flesh' is made of essence. Whenever anyone over-kills a spirit hard enough you'd reduce them to motes of essence.

All the charm says is that it dices the spirit finer, and having their dissipated form being blended into smaller pieces doesn't prevent them coming back.

For now an outline of a plan. Please, I want feedback.

Emma-O is male. Lady Eiko may be one of his greater akuma shikome, but she's not him.

Yog coming to explain why it's an horrible idea in 3... 2... 1...
I made my arguments already, and don't see a reason to make them anew. So no, I actually won't. It's a difference of opinion.
I am not interested in recruiting this one right now.

We know altogether too little.
Fair. I am mostly interested as a counter-move against his mistress. I am not interested in the guy himself (for now). Still, let me correct the vote a bit.

Well, yes? I don't think I implied she was? Ah, I see. Ok, let me correct the vote.

[X] Plan Audacious v. 1.0.
-[X] Question the vampire (DCs will increase with each question as he recalls less immediate sources of terror; they will be asked in the order voted for)
--[X] Intimidation excellency
--[X] The name of the messenger
--[X] What is Lady Eiko like
--[X] What does he know about you/the nature of their mission
--[X] Where are they dwelling
-[X] Use your Crown
--[X] On the vampire: "What are this one's masters planning in regards to me and mine?"
--[X] On the letter later at home: "Where can one find the kind of objects spoken of in this letter?"

-[X] Attempt recruitment using Mercy in Servitude as a carrot and Intimidation excellency as the stick
-[X] Stunt: The mist around you thickens, as the cold dread of Night Realm, or perhaps something older still, is unbound from the adamantine chains of your will. It raresses the vampire before you, a reminder as subtle as it deadly of where it escaped from, and where it is well within your power to send him back to. Your posture can only be described as regal, the memories of Mab, the feelings brought forth by seeing yourself in your dress and with your sword all combining to forge an image of something grand - a face that would launch and lead a thousand ships to storm the shores of hell itself. "Tell me, oh messenger of Lady Eiko of the Blood-Stained Chrysanthemum - what is your name?" you speak, and as the vampire answers, the aegis of your power expands, the ephemeral shadows settling upon his shoulders: "Have you felt it [insert name here]? I know you did. Know, that as long as you carry out my will, my aegis shall extend over your soul, and keep the ravages of hunger from you"

VEE would be so great in this situation. He could wish for his soul back.

It doesn't actually, one of the hooks of Iris Bulb Commerce is that it doesn't give the Yama King any control or influence until the bargainer loses the last bit of their soul - but you never know how much of your soul you have left…

Don't think he could; as it's not on the list of possible wishes it can grant.

Well, yes? I don't think I implied she was? Ah, I see. Ok, let me correct the vote.

If we want to recruit him, I'd ask for information on him via the Crown, and then use what he can tell us to get more targets to use the Crown on.

Might also be tempted to use his bone mask as a focus to get that information.

She wants insights into the power we wield? How about that it is eons older and far greater than the colours it is dyed in

Flaw missing part of your soul. VEE only cares If it appeared on the wishers character sheet, if yes then it works.
This is the sort of logic that led to 2e Duck Fate being able to remotely prevent other people's assassinations. "If my mentor/ally/etc were killed, I would lose the relevant Background points from my character sheet. Attempting to reduce the traits on my sheet is an attack on me. Therefore I can invoke Duck Fate as a defense to ensure I don't lose the Mentor background."

How would you formulate the question? I am ok with changing the question about him, since we could probably use the photo of the house they are staying in as the focus for their plans.

Getting a minion via VEE shenanigans
DP been open to VEE doing other stuff than is strictly listed in the charm, on conditions that we have at least some related power to at least vaguely justify the effect. We could grant True Faith if we got cult dots, for example.

So, in this particular case, given that Emma-O prolly controls this buy through severed bits of his soul, maybe we could do this with VEE+ Heart-Carving Wind.

Oh how the word Akuma has fallen. To think once it was a statement of Yozi might upon creation. Now it used by merely mortal agents of pretenders to hell. I feel sorry for the god of the word.
There were Non-Exalt Akuma even in the 1st Age, and Ex/WoD still has rules for Exalted Akuma.
Lintha are not human at all.
Those are humans with some demon blood. No pureblood Lintha have existed since the first age.
Correct in that 2nd Age Lintha are not related to 1st Age Lintha beyond name and political affiliations.
Incorrect in that 1st Age Lintha had a human-style Hun-Po soul structure and thus were "human enough" to exalted.
The exaltations are at least partially based on the Lintha after all, in the same way that humans were based on Autochthon's Man Of Adamant.

What lead him to his second damnation?

Iris Bulb Commerce doesn't sever slivers of soul, it just transfers ownership rights to them. It's selling shares in your soul; not selling your soul.

That's why you can't just look for people missing slivers of soul too identify whose engaged in it.

2nd Age Lintha are descended from 1st Age Lintha.

For the purposes of trying to finagle VEE to work together with Heart-Carving Wind, that's actually better, tbh.

I think we still retain that option.

[X] Plan Hail to the Queen
-[X] Use Intimidation Excellency
-[X] Question the vampire
—[X] The nature of the mission his group is on
—[X] What Lady Eiko is like
—[X] what forces he's aware of in the area
-[X] Use the Crown
—[X] On the vampire: "What does the ultimate faction behind this messenger know of what they call the dark seed?"
-[X] Stunt: "Akuma " Molly begins, in a soft voice that doesn't so much carry over other sounds as deaden it with its passing, "I have need of your services still".
-[X] As her countless eyes open to seek answers, she pins her unnamed companion beneath the weight of her regard. "Answer me truly, promptly, and with all possible diligence and it will be as a messenger" or lie and serve as a message promised the venomous courtesy threaded through her words.
-[X] Send the vampire back carrying a message changing the location to Mac's pub at noon on the same day, and carrying an email to negotiate further details through.

Not sure about the last bit, it's mostly just to poke them back for poking us.

Even if they don't have a way to mind control him they still have a good supernatural link and the possibility of good old fashion pressure games. The possibility of owning his own soul again could lead a person into all kinds of unfortunate decisions.

Edit: fixed some errors

Basically; Iris Bulb Commerce is a legal/bureaucratic process. It's not soul surgery, it's contract law. The thing you need to steal back if you want rights to your soul is the contract.

People have apparently managed that IIRC.

We could make his soul his own by breaking into Kakuri, finding the record office, and taking the relevant document, like stealing mortgage deeds from the bank.

That doesn't mean that VEE would work.

Sure, they can blackmail him with leaking that he's an akuma or the like. However, we can also do that if he's signed up to us.

We don't have anything on him once he's out of our sight, and the risk to jumping ship is considerable for him.

I just don't see a reason to really trust him, or a return that's worth messing around with all this.

An unbound Jade would be different, but this guy is a two bit hack at best with significant ties we can't get rid of.

Can someone show me in the text where we see that he's an akuma? In the sense that part of his soul belongs to Emma-O.

I think the idea is that with VEE/Heart-Carving Wind we could metaphorically or practically carve out the parts of his soul that are not his own and ensure that it grows back clean and unowned.

What the Yama King has a right to is destroyed in the process.

As you meet the eyes behind the mask something like recognition stirs in your heart. This is one who has known the touch of Kakur.

"Rightly did you name this one marked by Emma-O my lady," This time Usum's voice is venom and rage. "Ware the slaves of the Yama Kings."
It's not 100% certain, he might just be a minion of Kakuri who does not owe his soul or part of it to Emma-O, but that seems unlikely.

As the messenger collects themselves, seeming to force dead muscles back under their control the black eyes behind the bone mask does not touch yours but remains firmly planted in the soil of the graveyard as he returns a much deeper bow. In that posture, that manner you read now not shame, but... bewilderment.

"Rightly did you name this one marked by Emma-O my lady," This time Usum's voice is venom and rage. "Ware the slaves of the Yama Kings."

He's a jade working with servants of Emma-O allowed to bargain in his name in the mortal world and is directly called a slave by Usum. Seems pretty clear to me.
