Grand Army of the Republic: A Star Wars Plan Quest

There should be a Kaminoan Jedi hidden somewhere on-planet, trying to figure out how to avoid the horrible fate she feels approaching. Not really an option for us if Jango doesn't know about her, but she's good enough at precognitive "hunches" that she might approach on her own.

[X] Meet up with a wandering Jedi.

The less chance of tipping of Palps the better, with the Jedi already sniffing around it wouldn't be too hard for Jango to "Leave for a contract", find one and give them the breadcrumbs they need to find Kamino while hinting to the Jedi he's doing this in revenge for the client backstabbing him on a past job.

And lets be real, Palps has no intention of Jango walking away from this alive if he can help it.

[X] Meet up with a wandering Jedi
Palpatine is likely to have the Temple bugged and either try to kill us or escape if that proves impossible. As such meeting the Jedi covertly is far more useful than going to the Jedi temple since it might give time to prepare countermeasures to Palpatine's plans.

Introducing the Bad Batch: Return of the True Mandalorians

The Bad Batch as they preferred to call themselves, formerly Clone Force 99 before the events of the so-called Exodus and now Experimental Commando Force 01. Currently the group resided on one of several hidden space stations in the Mandalorian Sector. The orders of Mand'alore Jango Fett were to consolidate themselves and make final preparations for the conflict about to be sparked. One such measure was by the side of the group's leader Hunter.

"Alright folks I have the dubious honor of presenting the new member of our unit, straight from finishing training. This is Omega, our new medic. She, bears the new honor of being the oldest in the unit. Not that she looks it" was the gruff toned voice of Hunter as he stood just beside the hatch to the team's barrack.

The three other members stopped what they were doing to look. Wrecker sat up with a thump as he swung his legs out from where he was lying down on the bunk. The large clone taking the time to silently look over the newcomer, meanwhile Crosshair opened his mouth immediately.

"What's with the small fry? Can she really keep up with us, looks like she will fall over and cry at the first boo boo". The fact that Omega gave an actual pout to his words which actually confused the sniper for a moment.

"Hey, I passed in the top 5% of my class. And do you really want to make the medic mad? Because that gets you all the needles" came the bizarre threat to Crosshair who actually backed down.

Tech meanwhile looked up from his soldering of some minor gadget and gave a cheery hello before returning to his work. That tepid introduction done there was a moment of awkward silence before Omega walked up to Wrecker and pointed to something on his bunk.

"Is that a tuka? What's their name?" she asked.

"This, is Lula" came from Wrecker as he patted the doll in question.

As the two got into an animated discussion Hunter shook his head. "Well, they seem to be getting along".

Clearing his throat hunter pointed to one of the empty bunks in the room. "Right, kid get your stuff on that bunk there. Its free. You can unpack after dinner. Come along team". Quickly throwing her bag on the bunk the team began moving out.

Getting their food from the canteen droids the group picked out a table near the center of the room. Things were mostly quiet aside from the low level chatter in the room when Omega noticed something. Stopping her poking of the mystery meat substitute on her tray she looked across to see a few of the clones at another table pointing at them, fork in hand.

Seeing that Omega got up onto the bench and pointed. "Heya, what ya talkin about bout us! Is it bad stuff!".

That caused a circle of silence as everyone in earshot paused to see what would happen. For almost a minute nobody did a thing, then one of the clones in question begged off with a wave of his hand. The noise came back as the possible confrontation died with a whimper.

Tech looking around turned to Omega. "I think we can say you fit right now. Maybe not as much as in earlier days but well, you're in the Bad Batch now".

Omega nodded. "Yeah, so many are decorating their armor. Its very pretty, everyone really wants to stand out".

"Yeah, they might, but we were there first. Still the same noggins though, sorry Hunter guess you still gotta spend waadas(credits) on that hair care stuff" muttered Crosshair to the group.

"You are all just jealous that I have these fine locks" Hunter replied.

"You got that out of a holovid" Tech pointed out, even going for his pad to bring up the video in question.

Hunter scoffed. "And I made it my own".

Wrecker finishing chewing on some roasted vegetable thing decided to ask a question he had had for a bit. "Where did you get that head thing?" he pointed to Omega.

"Oh, I recognize that. A Kaminionan forehead pendant, don't see those outside of Kamino. Rather culturally insular thanks to their extended isolationist policies" replied Tech instead.

"I got it from Nala Se, she is the chief medical scientist on Kamino" Omega tacked on to what Tech said.

Wrecker noticed her tone, fond nostalgia and a hint of sadness. "Do you miss her, she gave it to you so she must have felt something".

Omega nodded, taking a moment to gather her thoughts. "Maybe. I still sorta miss her. Nala Se was nice, she was my caretaker and I helped her with her work. But she didn't really treat alot of clones nicely and I was always different. Well anyway she didn't come with me though when we had the Exodus".

Wrecker nodded. "Maybe one day you could send her a message. Hey Tech, how do you send messages anyway?". As Tech started explaining about the holonet and what a war would likely do to access alongside what Opsec was Hunter interrupted with a snap of his fingers. His hand went over his wrist pad and he started talking to someone. After the conversation finished he raised his head to the others.

"Well boys, and girls. We got our first mission. The Bad Batch is going to Geonosis. Come with me to the armory after we finish eating, we are all going to need a new change of clothes for this one" he smiled as he said that. He was looking forward to getting some action in at last after being benched with the last round of OPs.

<><><>

The Bad Batch had gathered themselves up into the gunship that they would be using, already in the system with Geonosis. Hunter was going over last-minute summaries.

"Right, here's the plan again. We are going to pretend to be mercs hired by RI, totally deniable. Except not. The boss hired a few pirate bands to help out, as far as they know we are also republic aligned merc forces. A few more of our brothers will be coming in later acting as Judicials but that is not our part of things The task is to sabotage their early warning systems so that the initial strike can take place alongside making the follow on wave's job much easier too"

"What kind of support we got or are we screwed. You said last time that it was up in the air. Well, are we going to get killed on a suicide run or not" said Crosshair.

"Well good news Crosshair. I finally got the details, now listen up" replied Hunter.

He set up a holoprojector disk on his hand. On it was a diagram of different ships and craft around holographic Geonosis. "The Liberator is a troop transport for the Mere Resistance, they will be the nearest unit to ours. They also brought along some cruisers and other craft which will help us by distracting and suppressing enemy defenses".

Hunter turned to Tech. "Our goal is to break into a number of war droid factories that the Separatist Alliance have built up on planet. We are to use any means we can to get them offline, if possible we are to also steal whatever data we can. Tech you had a look at the plans, any more input?".

The clone shook his head. "Nothing that is not already in the latest version of the brief. Wrecker has the charges we need and I got the hacking tool. Though I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of the Geonosian Sonic Weapons, there just is not alot of sonics out in the galaxy for me to get a look at. And their . . ." Tech continued his trivia that even Omega had learned to nod along with though she made more of an effort to not look dismissive unlike Crosshair.

Hunter meanwhile moved on. "Right Wrecker you know what to do, if we find a good spot then we set up demo. Crosshair, overwatch and keeping an eye out on good spots for sabotage. Omega, the bacta good to go?".

"Yep! I got the extras too. Count on me to keep you all in one piece!" she exclaimed.

"Right, we get this job done right then we can all celebrate with a trip to that food joint on Mandalore. Kid, we get through this right and I think you deserve your first good drink" Hunter said.

Omega looked excited, hands clasped together as she leaned in. "Really? You promise? I get to set foot on Mandalore for the first time! Ooohh, what sort of food did you say would be there? I never drank before".
Wrecker patted Omega's shoulder. "I can show you some good food stalls, then we get the fancy roasts like Hunter said". Omega's smile was quite brilliant and the rest of the team smiled, even acidic Crosshair could spare a slight upturn of his lips. But soon enough they were on final approach and had to get their helmets on as the gunship departed the hanger.

The ride in had some level of flak from proton cannons and other emplacements but the escorting swarms of fighter bombers that the Mandalorian forces had brought along helped suppress the area enough for their forces to begin landing. It helped that a few infiltrators had already marked out good terrain to use and places to hit beforehand. The Geonosians and their Separatist allies were not expecting an attack, their ships grounded for refitting still on the ground. While a bumpy ride the Bad Batch reached their objective, a hot drop on an already heavily bombed out factory complex. The brazen attack letting the entire task force jump out from their transports to jetpack the last distance down to avoid enemy fire. Most of the defense force seemed to be made up of hastily armed droids, the Geonosian's native PDF not having mobilized in time to counter the raid force.

While relatively shaky in terms of teamwork with Omega as such a new member, their shared training under at the hands of veteran Mandalorian clan warriors let them generally know what any member would do. Omega herself proved a good shot against the droids though her armour accumulated a few scorch marks from near misses as she did not take cover quick enough. Her initial leap had landed her on the low roof of a staircase to basement levels, her blaster almost instantly up and tagging the guard droids. Meanwhile Tech landed nearby with some droid poppers and started popping off shots of his own at any that survived.

A little further away Wrecker was in his element, his armour letting him shrug off a few badly aimed shots to begin liberally beating droids with other droids as he desired. His laughter unnerving the overly emotional B1 droids used as security as much as the wildly shifting doppler screech of the droid in his hands. Crosshair with his jetpack found perches or just stayed in the air as he aimed for high value units such as the few B2 Supers that they faced. Meanwhile last but not least Hunter landed near the entrance to a guard building and managed to pinpoint the Droidekas inside with his mutation granted senses, the rolling mechs having no chance in such close quarters as Hunter sliced them up with his vibroknife.

With the initial resistance crushed as the other teams started securing a perimeter, the team moved into the factory. The job was simple, they had trained often enough with similar missions. Having the plans beforehand just made matters unfair. Blasting the few surviving interior guards the group moved to a few key structural posts and equipment, Wrecker was in his element as he set the explosives up. Tech and Crosshair meanwhile split off to find the data vaults. While snooping through the upper levels with the admin center, Tech found something.

"Oh oh oh, fascinating" Crosshair snorted at hearing that.

"What are you doing Tech, we need to head through this section. There is a reason we are sticking around?" he complained.

"Relax, I just found an opportunity. Someone doesn't know their basic data security". Kicking the non-human standard chair away from a large desk, Tech started attaching a device to the desk computer.

"Hey Crosshair, you've been wanting that new attachment for your sniper right? Well I think we got the creds for that now. Someone left themselves logged in". Tech exploited the left open computer of the factory manager's office to begin stealing everything from their personal bank account to the recently messaged design schematics of the latest droids the factory was setting up to produce.

Hunter, still standing with Omega covering Wrecker reached a hand to activate the coms. "Tech, Crosshair, sitrep?".

"Negative on the data vaults Hunter, Tech found a shortcut. Will let you know if we still need to head there anyway" Crosshair reported as he tuned out Tech's excited babbling at digging into the data.

"Roger that, we have most of the explosives set up already. Estimate 20 minutes to finish, let me know in 10 how things are going" Hunter spoke.

"Got it" replied Crosshair.

From outside it could be heard that the Geonosians were throwing what they had in the area to retake the factory, but the planetwide nature of the attack meant their spread-out forces could not concentrate enough to quickly overrun any positions. Still by the time the teams were finished the exfil was a bit rough due to the swarming enemy reinforcements, this time consisting of native Geonosian forces. The entire team could appreciate it when Wrecker and the other explosive specialists set everything to explode simultaneously. The mushroom cloud drawing appreciative whistles from the group. But as their transports clawed for orbit, that was not it for the Bad Batch. They had another mission to head towards.

<><><>

Two weeks later the group had been rapidly redeployed to commence the first offensive Mandalorian people would openly undertake. Just enough time for the Republic and Separatists to have moved their forces against each other. Now quite out of position for the Mandalorian announcement of their resurgence in the galaxy. The Bad Batch were openly dressed as Mandalorian warriors this time, using the equipment they could actually use to perfection.

Hunter once again gave a final briefing summary as the transport was loaded into the hanger bay queue. "Alright we are now heading for Christophis. Apparently, they are a weak target, rich in minerals but not alot of friends thanks to their blowhard ways. So, we are going to go in and take over. In some ways we might even be liberators for the people. But that doesn't mean you an play dumb or the hero" He looked at Omega with those last few words, the girl could just be too nice for her own good as the team quickly learned during the short break they had.

"Hey, that lemur deserved to live just like anyone else!" Crosshair snorted aggressively and was obviously about to say something before Hunter clicked his teeth, accompanying that with a horizontal slice of his hand.

"Right back on track. Our job this time is to hit this junction of the skyway network that connects the different crystal cities on Christophsis. We cut that and we cripple their ability to move troops and supplies quickly. Intel is more spotty in terms of enemy strength but we are not expecting anything more then some dug in militia. Should be simple enough. The Blue Diamond Guard is the only elite unit of the Christophsis PDF, everything else is just a bunch of over glorified shinies. But don't be stupid and we should be able to get through this just fine. Everyone is going to need to pitch in for laying the charges, Omega. You good for this?"

Said rookie in question saluted. "Can do! Wrecker passed me for training. Just don't expect it to be very fast" she sheepishly added on. Wrecker gave a thumbs up to her words.

Hunter nodded. "Good enough for now. Crosshair you are going to have fun, just watch your jetpack. Wrecker, you know what to do. Tech, don't get distracted. Right, keep an eye on the terrain and each other. We do this and we strike a telling first blow for Mand'alore and our people".

The rest of the group nodded, some more sardonically than others. The turbulence of entry was rough on the transport, but the LAAT powered through. Originally made for the Clone Army, but creatively requisitioned it now served as a transport for the New Mandalorian Empire. In some ways Christophsis was worse off then Geonosis for defenses. The Geonosians having their own native industry and some expectation of being a target compared to Christophsis. The planet was not one that had a strong military tradition, it was not even particularly stable considering the oligarchy that ran it with an iron fist. Too many bully boys suddenly told they had to fight bloodthirsty Mando warriors. Many broke, confusion running rampant in the ranks of the defense forces. But the Bad Batch was about to find one of the wrenches in the plan that they were a part of.

Crosshair ducked his head under cover of the parapet he was behind, Hunter next to him barely managed to blindly snap a few shots off before having to draw back. "I thought you said the Diamonds were not going to be here! Well it looks like a whole bloody company of them to me!".

"Dam intel was off, how was I to know they were going to use this junction. Fuck, Wrecker on my mark. Wrist rockets on that pillar" Seeing a thumbs up Hunter brought up three fingers and counted down.

As soon as his hand made a fist he popped up. His other hand releasing the small but potent Mandalorian ordnance. The clutch of explosives streaked through the air leaving contrails until they smashed into one of the supports for the skyway. The rail platform dangerously sagged and those on it scrambled back rather than keep advancing on the Mando forces they wanted dead.

"Omega! How's Tech?!" Hunter yelled. A little respite now available as Crosshair kept the Christophian forces on their toes.

"He, he should be fine. Wound was clean through, the bacta should keep him stable until we can evac him. But I don't like any idea of moving him anywhere quickly" she reported. Hands still busy wrapping Tech's leg wound.

As Hunter considered their mission chances Crosshair ducked back down. Hands switching out the ammo pack for his sniper he snapped. "This mission is FUBAR, we ain't going to get this done easily. Not with those jackasses having rammed our fucking explosives off the skyway. Do we have any chance of support? We aren't going anywhere if we have to lug that piece of deadweight around" he angrily gestured at Tech's near unconscious form. The man quiet for once.

"Shut it Crosshair. We can't get anywhere if we still have those Diamonds on us like parasites on a hound" Hunter took a short break from continuing by taking his blaster and spraying down a couple of guardsmen attempting to push up for a grenade toss.

Beside him Crosshair went back to tagging a few individuals who were attempting to take potshots from behind a wrecked hover APC. "I don't like that we are here and they are over there" came the voice of Wrecker as he suppressed a few others.

Hunter considered that thought for some reason. Then he remembered the attempt at a grenade toss. "Keep their heads down I got an idea" he told Crosshair as he walked over to where Tech laid.

"Tech, how many grenades and Tibanna cartridges would it take to blow up the supports. Especially if we attach them to some vehicles".

Tech took a moment, woozy still from the painkillers he was injected with. "Most of what we have on us alongside some additional. The second transport we shot up should be close enough to a few pillars. Enough to collapse the skyway such that they can't bridge it quickly. Won't be as much as we wanted, but it would do" he calculated.

Hunter nodded. "Right. Best get to it. Omega when we make a move give us covering fire. Wrecker you're with me. Crosshair, you do you".

Hunter wanted to say it was some big dramatic moment worthy of a holovid. But really, they just used their mobility and heavy armour to overwhelm the remaining guardsmen. There was still more then enough to be a threat, but they didn't have the stomach to fight after a few got charbroiled or cut up by his knife. They rigged the explosives and then hightailed it with some hijacked hovercar.

Crosshair was driving to keep him busy, Wrecker in the front to give Tech some space though he was still sprawled across Hunter's and Omega's laps. They were making good progress on getting out, just a few minutes and they arrived. The waiting medics quickly bundled Tech up and led him to a waiting medevac transport.

The group loitered for a moment to the side of the busy FOB. Hunter checking over everyone looked at Omega and noticed something. She looked off to his eyes. And he had a good idea why. Putting one hand on her shoulder he spoke.

"It's okay to not feel anything. Some people react like that, most of us do. Others completely shut down, some get scared and never get unscared. Really, its okay". Omega nodded woodenly. Not quite trusting herself to say anything.

"We do this for our people, and they fight for theirs. I won't call any of us good or bad. You're not really wrong to feel for them, but we have our own task, our own dreams. Come on. I think you are old enough to have that drink earlier than I promised". With that Hunter slowly led Omega back to the waiting transport, Wrecker on the other side as they moved. The three-sided war for domination over the galaxy had truly begun.

[X] Travel to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Not the most secure option, true... But it's the only way to be sure.

Also the best way to see Yoda double face-palm.

Irregardless of what gets chosen, how much are we going to tell the Jedi? If we just wish to inform them of the finished army, then giving them a quick call from Kamino would be for the best.

Giving them information about the Sith should only be done with a wandering Jedi.

Going to their temple is a political move. It basically says that it's not the Republic's army, but the Jedi's. It's the kind of thing Sidious will use to his benefit to politicilla isolyte the Jedi even further and get the Senate on his side. On the other hand, it gives Jango the best chances to gain a position within the army.

After all, he was just contracted by the Jedi. Nothing else.

I expect this to go south really fast. The Chancellor best move would be to call an emersession of the Senate and request the presence of the Jedi Council and Jango. Boy this would be humiliating for them. No matter whether they knew or not.

Even if it is A Grand Army of the Republic, the fact is: The Jedi (or a Jedi) was able to go behind everyone's back to request the formation of a military force that breaks every rule of the Ruusan Reformation and could have used it for his own means.

Hm...
Maybe Palpatine won't do that?
He still needs the Jedi as generals and undermining their position of power might hinder that. Instead of calling them out on it, he might just be imply things. Some Senators pick up on it and accuse the Jedi and Palpatine soothes tempers with his usual humble attitude and conciliatory words.

Still, the situation is very different from canon.
They were already at war (more or less) when the Clones swooped in. The Confederacy was just founded and the Seperatist movement revealed their Droid Army. The Senate didn't care where the Clones came from, because they represented an immediate solution to the problem at hand.

It is very different this time around. The Seperatist crisis is ongoing and hasn't reached its high point, yet. It's not the Seperatists who reveal their giangabtic secret Droid Army, that needs to be fought, but rather the Republic that shows her hand first.

The Seperatists can and will use this politically. The Republic created an Army and thereby tries to threaten the Seperatists into compliance. Huh...
I wonder how Palps is going to use this.

This will be much simpler than that @Czes .

Jango will give hard evidence, that Palpatine is a Sith, that he is in cahoots with Dooku, that he orchestrated both the GAR and the Separatists, that he is, basically, a traitor to the Republic.

Cue Mace Windu and his useless Jedi escort entering Palpatine's office with Jango in tow.

Cue the Elite guard of the 600.000 Clones we sent to him shooting us into oblivion.
Or maybe just those from the first 100.000.

Only if Windu or whoever goes to bring him in fails to do so. Our chances are good. Plus the guard won't have the element of surprise. The Jedi and others they trust will be ready, if the clones have been brainwashed and won't listen to Jango or the Senate authorities.

[X] Meet up with a wandering Jedi

There should be a Jedi Watchman assigned to the Abrion Sector, though whether they're on station or not depends on the current Power Projection the Order exhibits.

Hutt Space is between Coruscant and Abrion, after all. . .

[X] Travel to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Someone pointed out that Jango's gone off world as part of burying secrets before, so that can probably give him enough cover to leave the planet without immediately raising Palpatine's suspicions.
