I feel like after all those heavy discussions about mind rape charms and Glorious Golden Gigolo/Sovereign Solar Stripper Prana, we should return to talking about why we still talk about Exalted. So I'm gonna quote a SA poster with an amazing Exalted anecdote.

This. My favorite story of play is my Craft Twilight that really really really wanted to focus on Water stuff, crafting potions, brewing, and leatherwork, in a system where Craft mostly just meant "roll for daiklave, then roll for airship" When I convinced my ST that the 2nd edition speed-up crafting combo meant I could distill and age 10-year old whiskey in 18 months it was the happiest day of my campaign.

I love the sheer variety of character archtypes that should be possible, and the idea of demon summoning being safe and easy for an exalt is intriguing. Actually the entire idea of first circle demons being completely built for a specific based on the needs of the designer actually intrigues me more then most other crafting systems (I was always sad we never got a proper genesis system) and I would love if we got a proper demon design guide done either in a canon book or as a fan work. Actually hell, the sheer number of 'villain only' powers that Exalts can get is rather fun (but then i love to play the bad guy)

This idea for a Shard comes from an off-handed comment on IRC made by @MJ12 Commando on how E2's "Sex und rape" problem could be solved by turning those words into "sax and rap"- Which was preceded by me noting that a Solar dance-battler with "Becoming The Best Breakdancer ever" was basically a campaign concept already laid out- (Yes, the final battle would be against a Ligier who has Sick Burns Nimbus and all of the moves. All of them).

And so Exalted: Dance Dance Usurpation was conceived.

You play as one of the Solar Exalted, men and women whose outstanding dancing abilities have earned them the favour of the Unconquered Sun. You've been bestowed the power to reshape the world with your moves and to make the beat of fate bend to your will...But every single one of your actions will have a consequence-
The first available setting would the Primordial Tourney- Theion ordained the whole of Creation to abide by His rules: All conflicts shall be solved through dance- Tired of having to clean the mess made by their creators- (Who had nothing to do but duke it out on the Dancefloor of Dvinities) the UCS, his backup troupe, plus R&B sensation Luna and their Chosen will have to wage a dance-battle against the very makers of reality- Aided by the mysterious Autotune Autocthon and by Gaia.
The second would involve the Usurapation. Increasingly fed with their presumptuous, pseudo-"art noveau" music and dance routines, the Sidereals and their groupies, the Dragon Ballets, conspire to take down the Solars- Will you side with the New Wave, or fight to preserve what little glory is left?

A third possibility would be the Age of Sorrows, where all rap is commercial and the DB Realm keeps a monopoly on the dance routines of the poeple- But a newly anointed group of Solars, fresh from rehab the Jade Clinic, aims to change that. Challenge astonishing foes such as Malfeas The Demon Pub with Ligier, the Green Disco Light, Adorjan The Silent Mic Drop, She Who Dances In Her Name, Oramus, The Dragon Beyond The Consolle, Isidors The Party Beast and many others, including the Neverborn! Fight against the deader-than-disco armies of The Primordial Formerly Known As The Prince Of Exiles! Learn new and amazing charms such as the Disco Inferno War Shintai, the Eye Of The Tiger Style, the Stopping Hammer Time Blow Prana and many others!

In the Age of Sorrows then, the Akuma would be artists who sold their souls to Big Music Zen-Mu Record Co.

GSPs would be cookie-cutter artists that broke the mold and struck out on their own, perhaps? Or would they be the rising stars of a new age, poised on a knife edge between fading to obscurity and letting their success overwhelm them? And yes, they are still so metal their names are power chords.

Alchemicals are obviously Techno. (Activating Speaker Override Spike. Activating Bass Cannon. Activating Thousand Scratches Disk Style. Activating God-Machine Mixing Engine.)

Away! We shall hunt down the legendary Five Metal Shrike tour bus!

I thought it was a joke.

The fact that it is not a joke scares me more than a little bit. Especially because there's nothing saying it needs to be consensual, and it only requires 3 minutes. You can literally mind rape people, guys. Someone thought an explicit Mind Rape charm was a Good Charm (TM).
"lover"

Words: they mean things, guy.

You are such an amazing lover, your partners keep coming back for more, and directly after the sex you have the benefits of Solar-powered pillow talk.

This is not a mind control Charm. It is not a rape Charm. It is not a mind rape Charm.

God, this thread is exhausting.

The only thing that's important for my first third edition playthrough

Are their charms that let me adjust peoples chakras! (so glad the filter here blocks me from the oynx path forums... I can imagine the reaction if I posted it there)

So what are the Abyssal rape ghosts?

One of the early mechanics preview the writers thought was a good idea to release, for some bizarre reason, was an outline of Abyssal Charms that included 'the "succubus arts" inspired by the Lover Clad in the Raiment of Tears'. Some of these were, well, pretty rapey:

Soul-Feeding Fascination: The Lover's apprentice can drain her victims through sexual intercourse. The deathknight may choose a resource to sap from her victim: draining willpower also prevents the target from using willpower at his next Decision Point; sapping health boxes temporarily adds to the Abyssal's health track, while reducing her victim's—victim also suffers a penalty on rolls to resist illness or derangement. The Abyssal can also tap her target's motes, temporarily lowering their permanent Essence by 1.
Carnal Shadow Resurrection: When the Exalt has completely drained a target's health by use of Soul-Feeding Fascination, she can trigger this Charm to turn her victim into a creature of darkness that must pursue sexual gratification in order to survive.
Lover's Sigh: The Abyssal can make a long-distance seduction roll against a target she has infected with Addictive Kiss. If successful, her target can intuit her location and will pursue her.
Heart Enslaving Whispers: The Lover's apprentice can use Lover's Sigh to cast a wide net over an area. Instead of targeting a paramour, however, this Charm targets any suitable character, dictated by the Abyssal's needs. This can include animals.
Black Rose Blooming: The Lover's apprentice may temporarily increase her Appearance by 1, even if this increases her rating past 5. However, doing so causes lustful phantoms to coalesce in the nearest darkness surrounding her premises and attempt to gain entrance.

The one that triggered the "rape ghosts" comments:
Frozen Watchfire Embrace: Sometimes the Lover's apprentice has nothing but time on her hands. Other times, she is simply tired of playing with her toys. This Charm allows the Abyssal to conjure lascivious specters from the echoes of the void, to set upon a paramour she has inflicted with Soul- Feeding Fascination. These wraiths will attempt to ravish her target while taking the form of the Abyssal or past acquain- tances of the target, sapping the victim as per the rules of Soul-Feeding Fascination.

Notable events that followed included one of the writers trying to defend the preview on the Something Awful forums and making some incredibly poorly thought out comments before an SA mod banned him for his own good because he was just making Onyx Path look terrible, and then the Kickstarter issuing a non-apology ("[a]fter reading through them with the concerns of others as our guide, as opposed to our intentions, we can see how some folks were appalled at what was presented") and 'clarification' of questionable value ("Those apparitions are not for rape. They are for haunting, and seduction.").

Goddammit, which writer keeps putting the sexual fluff in, is it so hard to write charms that can be used sexually but are not explicitly sexual?

Remember the Solar Larceny Charm that goes something like "only the wicked would seek to conceal something from the Solar Exalted"? I'm sorry, words mean things. And the distinct lack of the word "consenting" here is important.

Thousandfold Courtesan Calculations, the only canon sex charm in 2e, specifically notes that the partner must be willing. This charm does not.

In fact it spends more time on mentioning the minimum boning duration than it does on issues like consent. Most charms do not require the subject to consent.

So yes, words mean things and what these words mean is "either we have a literal mind rape charm or you should clarify that it requires a CONSENTING partner.

Because sex charms are skeevy at best and thus need to be given the strictest scrutiny for clarity.

No, it doesn't. If you are raping someone, they are not your partner. This Charm works on your sexual partners and, furthermore, only during "lovemaking." Absence of consent invalidates this Charm. This is self-evident, and is only a subject of contention here because people want this Charm to be objectionable.

The reason the duration is mentioned, by the way, is referential. Celestial Bliss Trick has been in the game since first edition as a Sidereal resplendency, always mentioning "total sexual extasy in under three minutes" for reasons known only to Dr Moran. It was ported as a Solar Charm in Ex3 because "excellence in lovemaking" is as Solar as it gets, though I imagine Sidereals will still have their own version.

What's that? Partner does not imply consent? "Unwilling sexual partners are still sexual partners. How about lover?

Note the lack of "willing" here. This charm is contentious because it shows the devs writing things their ass can't cash because sex is a very intimate topic and almost all the time writing about sex is juvenile. And even at its best it's not exactly a good mature charm because James Bond is preeeeeetty rapey in the first place.
