Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

I think branching out enough so that we can have a decent education is all well and good, it's the part where we compete with Sakura and Sasuke that such a thing poses an issue. It's not really time well spent, and we know Sasuke covers a multitude of fields by the end of the academy. I don't wanna constantly be playing catchup every time he seems to one up us in a given category.
Ah, point.

Hmm, well to avoid that sort of competition, we should probably leave it until the last year of the academy. That's when we'll buckledown and focus on reaching the top spot instead of trying every year and losing time we could have spent on training.

Speaking of training, we're just a 120xp short of getting Kenjutsu to Adept!

All with never using a blade. The person who trains us in the way of the blade is going to think we're a genius.

It might be helpful to see Iruka and Mizuki as characters, who give you a chain of minor side-quests/tutorials.

We unlocked interactions with them by attending the academy, now we can approach them and ask for help.

First quest: channel chakra; very little effort - some xp
Second quest: leaf exercise; more effort during a longer time period - more xp

The reward wouldn't be the xp, but unlocking a skill-tree (like Skyrim), which we can grind for years.
leaf exercise - tree walking - water walking - maybe sensing abilties - etc.

Regarding top spot in the academy, it really depends on the stuff we could spend our time on to give us similar xp, but a different skill.
Let's say we spend our time learning kenjutsu to adept, but only reach no. 2 because of academics (close but not adept) I would be totally fine with it.
adept kenjutsu + no. 2 > Top academy student IMHO

Ah, we're back to discussing xp expenditure.

Well, if we're going to help Ino, the social achievement might help. It only takes 80 xp to cover it.

I mean, the mental achievement seems to be pretty good. It makes studying easier and it will help with the fun achievement once we have the time for it.

I confess I'm pretty curious what the social one will do.

My guess is make us more personable

I am putting to gether a spreadsheet right now to track XP rewards and where they were spent, should hopefully make it easier for people to remember what they have and how much floating XP there is

Huh, 373 XP should cover Above-Average Strength, Simple Appearance, and Adept Kenjutsu. Of course, throwing XP at Social Skills might be helpful solving Ino's problem.

EDIT: Or we could throw it all at Constitution to make it Superhuman. Pretty sure that'll help Daisuke have more free time.

[X] There's a whole list of achievements in your menu, just waiting for you to solve them! The last time you went out and pursued one, you found Gai-Sensei. What'll you find if you go after another one?

I really want to help Ino but when you think about it and realize we were about to become a sliced infant a couple posts ago really makes training combat the priority number 1. Can't help the dead after all. It's not even about being the best of the academy, we just have to perpetually become better until we're overwhelmingly strong (which I doubt will happen until chakra is unlocked but hey, every little bit helps).

I'm realizing how much of an issue shooting for number one in the class is. Like, yes, aspire for as much as we can feasibly achieve, but #1 implies a variety of skills we simply don't have the time to spec into. We Taijutsu main, and while having a degree of utility is fine, it's a bad idea to split off too far at this point. We noted that in particular, Sasuke wasn't superior to us in Taijutsu. This says nothing of Ninjutsu, or academics; fully aware Ninjutsu is less likely a concern given chakra at this age, but he's got some other stuff to use, like shuriken training and the like.
Yeah, I would gladly drop Academics and not put a single rank in it (either we cheat or we get the Dead Last achievement) if we can get Adept Taijutsu + Stealth with a self-created technique at at least Intermediate level, since that'll offer us way more survivability in a mission compared to studying. Combo that build with a stolen Hiding in Mist technique and we've got a real classic build.

Academy study may be needed to level ninjutsu though, and I really don't want to drop ninjutsu. It works well with everything.

Well 80 for Simple appearance also unlocking an achievement and i believe 170 for adept diplo level which would both help with social and helping Ino on this vote.

Edit- the more I read about attributes the more I feel that getting appearance to simple is vital for friends, and if we had simple appearance on the first day we may not have gotten the brush off namely this bit for simple: working on your personal hygiene, you've done more than the bare minimum

Could you include another column for XP left?
Added in.

[X] Ino's not saying much about her issues with Mariko and her friends, but that doesn't mean you haven't noticed them. They're being petty, and there's no better revenge than living well! Help Ino leave those girls in the dust by studying together and training with Gai Sensei!
