London

Known Heroes and Heroic Organisations
The first costumed vigilante in both the British Isles and London, the Night appeared in early 1916. Primarily focused on fighting the Consortium and stopping the criminal empire taking advantage of the then ongoing war, the Night also focused on regular crimes and the criminals of London soon learnt to fear his presence. He vanished in mid 1919 without a trace while investigating the politician Barnaby May-Porter and his ties to the Consortium leadership.

His secret identity is Benedict Wallis, grandson of the wealthy retired politician Gareth Wallis.
The youthful squire of the Fairy Knight and aspiring heroine, Sapphire Squire relies on a mixture of physical skill, mental ability and technological gadgets. A genius and prodigy, Sapphire Squire holds her own on the streets of London and has proven herself worthy of fighting alongside her mentor. Since 25th December 1920, Sapphire Squire has gained two magical abilities from her mentor, one which allows her to change her outfit at will and provide her clothing with protective properties while the other removes her needs for sleep, food and drink.
The second squire of Fairy Knight, Onyx Squire comes from a criminal background and seeks to help the world rather than hurt it like the rest of his family. Relying mainly on his fists and hardiness, Onyx Squire has picked some equipment and magic from Fairy Knight and Sapphire Squire, the most exotic of these being his partial invisibility and complete silence.

His secret identity is David White, son of the street thug Jacob White.
Jordan Brown is a chief inspector within the Metropolitan Police. A determined man who believes in stopping criminals and protecting the innocent, Chief Inspector Brown is willingly to bend the law a little if it means seeing proper justice done.

Following his systematic dismantlement of the Dragonsteeth, Jordan Brown was promoted from Detective Sergeant to Detective Inspector. Following the arrest of the Templar, Jordan Brown has formed a formal covert partnership with the Fairy Knight.

As of 1st March 1921, Jordan Brown has been promoted to Chief Inspector from Detective Inspector under a cloud of politics, high tenses and borderline infighting amongst the Metropolitan Police.
Gareth Wallis is a wealthy man and a retired politician who has known great tragedy. The ageing man has outlived all of his family and currently lives alone in London with his butler. He was aware of his grandson's activities as the Night and covertly funded his crusade. As of January 1920, he supports and funds Fairy Knight's continuation of the Night's crusade.

Known Villains and Villainous Organisations
While some call him a hero, the Golden Knight is definitely a criminal. Appearing in 1919, the Golden Knight and his Golden Order are returning veterans of the Great War. While they fight the Consortium and claim to see justice for the people, many of the Golden Order's activities are regular organised crime and in some ways, the Golden Knight is just another crime lord who dressed up as a costumed vigilante.

On 9th February 1920, the Golden Order captured Sam Carson of the White Devils and hold him captive.
On 24th April 1920, the Golden Knight aided Fairy Knight at Anna Lucas' party.
The White Devils are a London street gang that was led by Sam Carson and backed by the Consortium. A male dominated gang that believes in the supremacy of the white Englishman, the White Devils seek to purge London of its 'foreign filth'. Covertly supported by the Consortium, the White Devils rose to prominence falling the Night's disappearance and seek to 'clean out' Whitechapel so they can turn it into their territory and use the neighbourhood as a base of operations.

On 9th February 1920, Sam Carson was defeated by Fairy Knight before being captured by the Golden Order. Following the loss of their leader, the White Devils have fallen into infighting and got systemically picked off by their foes. As of mid 1920, the gang no longer exists.

As of 25th February, Sam Carson was freed from the captivity of the Golden Order by Redcoat, presumably on the orders of the Consortium.
The Dragonsteeth were a major street gang that was founded and led by Anna Lucas. Covertly backed by the Consortium, the Dragonsteeth held a position of prominence within the London criminal underworld and the gang held great influence over several small gangs.

On 24th April 1920, Anna Lucas was defeated by Fairy Knight and later arrested by the police alongside several of her subordinates.

Between late April 1920 and early August 1920, Detective Sergeant Jordan Brown systematically dismantled the gang. He did so by arresting and putting in prison most of their leadership and membership, shutting down all of their major operations and most of their minor ones and he ruined their reputation.

As of September 1920, Cliff Gregory currently leads what is left of the Dragonsteeth with the gang having gone to ground as a remnant of their former glory.

As of April 1921, the Dragonsteeth are no more after being consumed by rivals in the gang war following the downfall of the Royal Ravens.
Levy Porter was the chief enforcer of the Dragonsteeth, a feared man for his deadly prowess. He was arrested by Detective Sergeant Jordan Brown on the 24th April 1920 after being defeated by Fairy Knight and was later sent to prison.
Levy Porter was a sub-boss of the Dragonsteeth and their main accountant. An experienced elderly man, he managed most of the gang's finances and briefly took over half of it following Anna Lucas' arrest.

He was arrested by Detective Sergeant Jordan Brown during early June 1920 and was later sent to prison.
Cliff Gregory is the current leader of what remains of the Dragonsteeth. An ambitious and dangerous man, he leads what is left of the gang after avoiding being arrested by Detective Brown.

As for 25th February 1921, Cliff Gregory is attempting to return the gang to prominence and has broken its prior ties with the Consortium.

As of April 1921, the Dragonsteeth are no more after being consumed by rivals in the gang war following the downfall of the Royal Ravens. The current fate of Cliff Gregory is unknown.
The Consortium is the top dog within the criminal underworld of London with its leadership remaining unknown to outsiders and most within the Consortium. Whilst it has sway across most of the British Isles, the Consortium is located in London where it holds the most of its power and influence.

Despite enjoying a good couple of decades of effectively uncontested dominance, the Consortium has founded itself increasing under attack in recent years with its most prominent foes being the Night, the Golden Order and Fairy Knight.
An middle-manager within the Consortium who is responsible with coordinating with outside assets. He was Windstrike's liaison when the Consortium hired her to kill Fairy Knight in March 1920.
Known as Ronald Barr in his civilian identity, the Templar is a fearsome warrior who dresses up in plate armour, styling himself after a medieval knight. Wielding his imposing war hammer, the Fist of God, the Templar is one of the most dangerous individuals on London's streets with very few capable of matching him. Having retired from the army after a decade of service at the end of the Great War, Ronald seemingly works for an Anglican organisation that seeks to purge London's streets of heretics and infidels.

He was arrested on the 18th September 1920 after being defeated by the Fairy Knight, but avoided going to prison due to destruction of evidence during his trial.
Peter Michaelson was the leader of the Royal Ravens and a member of the Consortium. The Royal Ravens were the top gang in London and the Consortium used them as a proxy to control the streets of London. Following a rash attack on the Brown family in February 1921, the full force of the Scotland Yard came down on the Royal Ravens and as of April 1921, the gang has been systemically destroyed one way or another and is effectively no more.
Allen Baxter as the chief enforcer of the Royal Ravens.

On 16th February 1921, Allen Baxter was accidentally slain by Fairy Knight in battle.
25th February 1921, the Regal Ravens split off from the Royal Ravens.

Also known as Tedd Donald, the Squirrel is a talent and agile thief who steals from the rich as a challenge. After being caught by Fairy Knight on 10th August 1920, he has given up his life of crime.
The wife of Jordan Brown and mother of Brenda Brown and James Brown. A formerly cheerful and supportive woman, she was almost killed on the 18th February 1921. While she survived thanks to Fairy Knight's intervention, her right hand has been maimed and Eira has fallen into a deep depression.

As of May 1921, Eira has fully recovered thanks to Moira Lyn and her magic.
The son of Jordan and Eira Brown and the younger brother of Brenda Brown. James Brown was a shy kid who witness his mother almost being killed in their own home on the 18th February 1921 alongside receiving injuries of his own. While he and his mother were saved by the Fairy Knight, the fallout has left him spooked and jumping at shadows.

As of May 1921, James has fully recovered thanks to Moira Lyn and her magic.

British Isles

While he is based in Winchester, Galahad operates in all of Hampshire.
The partner of Galahad and student of Merlin, Sentinel is a genius who creates devices and invents technology beyond what the rest of the world uses. His secret identity was revealed to be Oliver King, a soldier turned mercenary.
An upstart criminal group formed by some Irish folk up in Glasgow, they have seized control of the Glasgow criminal underworld from the Consortium and are battling the Consortium over Edinburgh's criminal underworld.
A villainous magic user, he has proven a capable spellcaster and a dangerous foe, especially if given time to prepare. He apparently works for an employer, but holds little loyalty to them and is willingly to further his own goals at their expense.

Kingdom of the Faeries

Known Heroes and Heroic Organisations
The King of the Faeries and former ruler of the Little Court of Ireland, Tiarnach is a stern, but fair ruler. A capable warrior and respected leader, he is a highly popular leader thanks to his own actions as King and his overthrowing of his aunt. He seeks to change the ways of his people and turn them into something more noble and less capricious.

While time flows differently in the Kingdom of the Faeries, it wa roughly 6th May 1921 that Tiarnach became king.

Known Villains and Villainous Organisations
Sister to the first Queen of the Faeries and temporary usurper, Princess Taenya is an ambitious and paranoid woman. While she was able to amass a loyal following that allowed to overthrow her sister, Taenya valued loyalty and subservience over competence and ability. She would later meet her downfall when her paranoia and tyrannical rulership resulted turning half of her realm against her, purges that left her supporters greatly reduced in number and putting the most loyal subordinates in charge rather than those that were qualified to do the job.

While time flows differently in the Kingdom of the Faeries, it was roughly 6th May 1921 that Prince Tiarnach overthrow Taenya and became king.
The son of Taenya, Prince Auraen made up what he lacked in competence with obedience. He was left in charge of defending the Little Court of Scotland when his mother was overthrown, resulting in his defeat at the hands of Tamara Lyn and her squire.

Known Civilians and Neutral Organisations
The mother of Tamara Lyn and many other important fairies, the Queen of the Faeries was a powerful and uncontested leader. Having rightfully earnt both fear and respect, the Queen of the Faeries was a whimsical and capricious ruler who did what she felt like at any given moment thanks to being powerful enough to get away with it.

At some point prior to start of 1920, she was overthrown by her sister Taenya and has not been seen from since.
The daughter of the Queen of Faeries, Princes Moira rules over the Little Court of England. While she is a decent ruler, Moira is more focused on magic and improving her magical abilities. She and her half-sister Tamara consider each other to be their favourite sibling.

As of May 1921, Princess Moira has taken up the human identity of Moira Lyn.
The son of Princess Taenya, Prince Zelphar ruled over the Little Court of Wales before being disposed alongside his mother.
The daughter of the Queen of Faeries, Princes Maeryn rules over the Little Court of Cornwall. While not a bad ruler, Princess Maeryn is more interested in socialising than running her realm. Maeryn likes to spend her time engaging in politics and the high life of society.

As of May 1921, Princess Maeryn has taken up the human identity of Maeve Lyn.

The Druid V
[X] Attack the man called Bull to make him release Fairy Knight.

The wizard isn't a threat for you thanks to your preparations whilst you don't see how breaking one of the circles could be useful. If you broke the one around the weapons, Fairy Knight won't be able to make use of them while if you broke the one around her, she would still be held captive by the Bull and still vulnerable to being mind controlled by the wizard.

If you can take out this Bull, then you can just focus on the wizard and with your immunity to his powers, it should be easy to take him down in a fight between just you and him. Making your decision, you throw a boomerang as hard as you can at the man.

You have to be careful to avoid hitting Tamara and you can't be as accurate as you usually are with how much force you are putting into this attack, but the Bull is completely unaware of your presence. Your target is focused on holding Tamara in place and that leaves him vulnerable to your surprise attack.

Even then, the boomerang barely hits him instead of Tamara, but your gamble pays off. The boomerang rips through the leather armour of Bull and into the tender flesh below, coming way with a small spray of blood.

Bull howls with pain as he lets go of Tamara and takes a step back as brings up a hand to clutch his bleeding shoulder.

"Gods damn it," curses the wizard, not looking away from Tamara, "It must be that squire of hers. Deal with her Bull!"

"Oh yes, I will," growls Bull as he glares at the space you had occupied while the wizard casts his spell on Tamara.

You don't need to spend any effort avoiding the Bull's attack as you have already moved after your first attack. Unable to see you at all, he is left to attack the empty space where you threw the boomerang from.

Glancing over at Tamara and the wizard, you don't think that the spell worked from the wizard's reaction. Not fully anyhow as your mentor is fully focused on the wizard, not trying to escape or do anything other than staring at him.

With another boomerang already in your hand, you throw it at the back of the Bull's head. It hits almost perfectly, sending Bull forward with a cry of pain. The brute is thrown into the wall by your attack and his body slumps as your foe doesn't rise for another attack.

"Got her!" exclaims the wizard as looks up from where he has apparently mind controlled Tamara.

"And I got him," you reply as you attempt to get around to his side.

"Overrated oaf," sneers the wizard, "He count have lasted more than five seconds, but no matter. I still have the advantage."

"Do you know?" you reply, letting your scepticism fill your voice.

"Your mistress is still mine to control," declares the wizard as he looks around for you, "I can unleash her within moments with orders to kill you. Do you think that you could defeat her?"

You don't pause at the question as while it initially sounds plausible, it feels wrong. Glancing down at the magic circle around Tamara and then at the one around her weapons, you decided to hedge your chances.

"Yet she is trapped within that circle of yours and even if you are able to free her in time, there is another circle where her equipment is blocked from her," you reply, "She could probably beat me with her sword and armour, but without those? I beat I can take her."

"I have more than one trick up my sleeve," retorts the wizard, "I can command her to kill herself."

That gives you a moment of pause before you decide that you can't fall for it. Even if it is true, you need to press on and make it an unacceptable option for him to take.

"And I will kill you if she dies from your hand," you reply in the hardest tone you can make, "Is killing her worth your life?"

"Perhaps not," agrees the wizard, "Yet can you back up that threat? I have defeated you once tonight when you had dear Tamara here was on your side. Now she is on mine."

"I am the Sapphire Squire and my greatest weapon is mind," you reply, sourly noting that he has uncovered your mentor's identity and decide it is time to play a card of your own if means convincing him not to kill Tamara, "I can make technology and wield magic beyond most anyone else and it has been hours since we last fought. Do you really think that I came here without stacking the fight in my favour?"

"Then it seems are at an impasse then Sapphire Squire," says the wizard, "You might be able to beat me here, but I wonder how you feel about people know that Tamara Lyn is actually the Fairy Knight. I wonder how Gareth Wallis will feel about learning just what has wormed its way into his home. I suspect that the Consortium or some other group of criminals would reward me well for this information. Perhaps the press would like to let the public masses know all about this."

"I'm not seeing how this is supposed to stop me from kicking your arse," you inform him, taking some relief that he hasn't gotten Tamara to feel everything, "If anything, it means that it is more urgent."

"It means that unless you wish to kill me, you need to deal with me," he replies as he grins at where he thinks you are, "And I know that the two of you don't kill despite what some people might say about Allen Baxter."

"So you are suggesting what exactly?" you ask, trying to figure out what the man is up to as you stare at the back of his head.

"That we settle this like civilised people and talk things out to a reasonable conclusion," states the wizard, "I have something you want in the form of Fairy Knight and her identity as Tamara Lyn and there are certainly things that I want from you."

"You want to bargain for your freedom and silence then?" you say.

"Of course," answers your foe, "I am not your enemy outright. My employer is a new player in the game and not one of your current foes nor have I have time to report back to him. Plus while he has hired me, I am not loyal to him beyond payment and there are things that you and your mentor can offer me that he cannot not."

"I don't suppose that you will realise Fairy Knight from your control as a sign of good faith?" you inquire.

"Only if you give up whatever protection you have prepared against me," replies the wizard, "It is only fair that if I give up my advantage, you give up yours."

What does Sapphire Squire do?

So two things happened in this update that I didn't expect, Bull to go down in two hits and for Fairy Knight to get mind controlled again after two attempts. So instead of what I originally planned, you get Druid trying to get a deal while he feels that he still has the advantage.

Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to. Feel to ask questions for more details and information.

-[X] Take the time to come up with a ritual to remove his memory of the whole night and what happened, including Tamara's identity.

is it possible to come up with something magical to erase his knowledge of Tamara?

edit: I'm assuming it's easier to erase a block of time than something as specific as an identity.

He has no physical proof and heck, Tamara is a shapeshifter. Dropping an identity if its really badly compromised is annoying but not really difficult.

Nah just use blunt force trauma to the head to erase his memories...the way he bargains and how much he knows make me think death is better.

It depends on how long the length of time is versus how much that identity interacts with their memories. Making someone forget an hour is easier than wiping their memories of their girlfriend that they had for the past two years, but making someone forget a person they only met that evening is easier than making them forget the last few months.

I've been thinking of writing some interludes to show stuff from perspectives other than Tamara's and flesh out the setting beyond the updates. I've got one half-written up where Sapphire Squire discusses some of her issues with Fairy Knight with the hope of getting a magical solution with the intents of showing how Sapphire Squire views herself, how she has been coping since the attack on her family and how Tamara's half-fey heritage has her differ to a normal human. I also got one planned where Brenda hangs out with her best friend and another where Inspector Brown deals with the increased gang activity at work.

I plan to do those three, but I was wondering if there anything in particular that anyone wanted to see such as more of a certain character or a specific part of the setting?

I'm very curious about:
-Man On The Street
-Thugs of the Backstreet
-Newspapers What Say

Tamara's housemates - speaking of which she's probably going to be concerned about since frankly they are the ones most at risk besides her

[?] She's a shapeshifter you idiot. You think that selling her identity will be any more of an inconvenience than "I guess I can't use my favourite face."?
Something like that as a bit of a bluff?
He demonstrated that he misunderstood the relationship with Gareth so I think we've got some wiggle room here.

Doable both in the sense that it is an acceptable write-in and it is within Sapphire Squire's ability to pull off, but I'm planning to close the vote tonight so you got a limited window of opportunity to convince people to vote for it.

Well, its worth a try

[X] Damage Control. You will not be blackmailed, but incase you fail to stop him the first thing you need to do is undermine his position of strength. Clearly Fairy Knight hasn't told him everything or he'd have brought up Dad and Gareths true relationship. Now you need to convince him the rest of the information is valueless to protect Tamaras other friends.

At certain levels of savvy telling him her id is worthless means he grabs someone more vulnerable. Maybe we're lucky that vote didn't gain traction.

I figured it would be done by trying to trick Druid into thinking that Fairy Knight had just grabbed a random identity to trick him.

The Druid VI
[X] No deal. You will not be blackmailed and you will treat this criminal like any other. Attack him with the element of surprise and take him down so you can free Fairy Knight.

You consider the offer before deciding that the wizard has nothing to offer you. Yes, he may know that Fairy Knight is Tamara Lyn, but he has no proof and it would be his word against everything else. Even he does try to go public with it, people are more likely to disbelieve than to believe, especially if steps are taken to migrate the damage beforehand.

You will not be blackmailed tonight, not by this criminal and not when you got the upper hand.

"No deal," you inform the wizard as you throw a boomerang into the back of his head.

The projectile bounces off of your foe's magical shield and he whirls around to look for you.

"You arrogant whore," curses the wizard as he fires off a series of his green-dark magical projectiles, "You'll regret this!"

You move to avoid the enemy attack, but you quickly realise that he wasn't aiming at you. The magic bolts smash into a section of the white magic circle around Talatine and Torlyn. Unsure of why he is breaking his own magic circle instead of attacking you, you toss another boomerang at him.

"You know that she is a shapeshifter right?" you taunt him, "She just grabbed the first pretty face she thought of and bluffed you. No, wait, she pretended to be Tamara Lyn because it is like Tam Lin. My bad, but you get the point."

It slams into mystic shield of the wizard with full force, sending the man stumbling backwards from the sheer force of the blow. Barely remaining upright, the wizard fires another barrage of magic missiles, this time aiming at the other circle that surrounds Tamara.

"Ridiculous!" declares the wizard as he glowers at you, "She was under my total control. She could not have resisted my will or lied to me."

As you throw another boomerang at the wizard, you watch with a sinking feeling as Fairy Knight summons Talatine to her hand and encases herself in Torlyn. As the wizard is left to reel from another successful hit from one of your boomerangs, you realise that your foe was breaking his own magic circles to free Tamara so your mentor could aid him against you.

You decide that you really hate mind control and you definitely hate this guy.

"If she was so under your control, then why didn't she reveal my secret identity?" you demand, "She made knowing it a requirement of my squiring to her. Surely you didn't forget to ask who I was right?"

Fairy Knight swings at you, but the blow is off-balance and thanks to your invisibility, only hits your general area. Ignoring your mentor because she has just turned herself as invisible as you are, you focus on the wizard, hoping that taking him down will break his control over Tamara.

Having finished freeing Fairy Knight, the wizard turns his magical barrage upon you with an angry glare, covering your general area with the attacks to try and hit you. Despite your necklace of protection making you immune, you attempt to avoid the attack anyway as the longer it takes for him to hit you is more time for you to take him down. Yet you prove to be too slow and despite your best efforts, a couple of the bolts slam into you.

You can't help, but grin as they ineffectually disperse against you. That grin quickly fades as you spot the thoughtful look that the wizard is giving you.

"How are you-an amulet," growls the wizard as he stares at your neck, "Tamara, destroy her amu-ughh!"

A boomerang to the chest cuts off the wizard, but it is too late as Fairy Knight has already heard enough of his order to figure out what he was commanding her to do. You attempt to dodge Talatine, but your mentor is too skilled for you. The silver blade cuts through the costume around your neck with ease and into the necklace below. Talatine cleaves through all three beads and for a moment, it looks like the newly released magical energies are going to backfire on you.

But then they disperse, harmless fading away to wherever magical energies go. You flutter away from Fairy Knight, using your wings to put some distance between you and her as you draw another boomerang. Glancing over the wizard, you barely have time to react as he fires a beam of blue light at you.

You attempt to fly out of the way, but you have too little warning and your foe's aim is too good. The beam strikes you in the chest and a moment later, you find yourself no longer in the repurposed cellar, but flying outside. Quickly regaining your wits, you look around to see that you are on the outskirts of the city.

Putting together what happened quickly enough, you begin to fly back towards the city, desperately hoping that you can get back in time to save Fairy Knight and defeat the wizard. But then you spot the sign and come to a halt as you realise just what your foe did to you.

You feel the urge to cry in frustration at the unfairness of it all as you stare at the sign saying 'Welcome to Manchester'. As you do your best to ignore the tears welling up in your eyes, you decide that you absolutely hate the wizard.

***

You jump off of the train that you have stowed away on as it enters the outskirts of London, taking to the skies with your wings. You bitterly note how it is clearly the late morning as the sun approaches noon.

It has taken you hours to get back home and that is only by sneaking aboard trains heading towards London. If you had tried making your way back on your own, it would have taken you days. Hopefully you won't be in too much trouble as Brenda and your secret identity will be intact. Your only saving grace is that it was Friday yesterday so you won't have missed schools.

You don't Mr Morris would be understanding of your situation even if you could tell him the truth. But avoiding trouble in your secret identity is secondary compared to making sure that Fairy Knight is okay and bringing that dastardly wizard to justice for his misdeeds.

You swing by the Nighthouse first to restock your utility belt and then head out to the cellar again. You doubt that the wizard would be still be there after all this time, but if he expects you to take days to get back to London, he might have chosen to stick around rather than relocate to a new base. Even if he and Fairy Knight are gone, the cellar is still your best lead for finding out where they are.

Glumly entering the secret base that you and Tamara use and pause as you spot a note left on your workshop-the workshop. While its presence leaves you feeling hopefully, you approach it warily in case it is a trap. If the wizard found about Fairy Knight being Tamara, he might have found out about the base.

You carefully begin to read the note only to throw that carefulness away as you read the contents.

Sapphire Squire

I have left this note to let you know that I got away through not without cost of what I gave the Druid whilst I was under his control. I greatly appreciate your efforts to save me and I am sorry that I undid them even if my actions were not my own at the time.

After seeing that you were already making your way back on your own, I have gone to work and have left you this note to make you arrive that I am alright upon your arrival.

If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know and I will do what I can.

Your mentor, Tamara Lyn

You left out a sigh of relief as you finish message. Tamara is okay and you don't need to rescue her anymore. That is a weight off your chest. You still want to bring the wizard-the druid to justice, but that can wait for now. You need to get home and see how much trouble you are in.

"You're back," says James as you close the door behind you.

"I'm back," you confirm as you smile at your little brother, happy to have a little bit of normality after last night.

Though stuff like last night is feeling increasingly normal for you these days. Such is your life.

"I'm hungry," declares James, "Dad hasn't come home yet and Mum is still doing nothing and you weren't here to make breakfast."

"No breakfast huh," you say, trying to not feel guilty for not being here for your brother, "You must be hungry. I'll get started on an early lunch. So, err, Mum is still...?"

"Still doing nothing," repeats James and you can see his face looking upset, "That's all she does these days. Mum just sits there and looks out of the window. She doesn't care for us anymore."

"Mum still loves us," you reassure him, only half-believing your own words.

"She doesn't act like it," huffs James.

"I'll make you jam sandwiches," you tell him, trying to distract him from the unfortunate truths about your mother, "Some for now and others for later. I've got to go out again soon."

You try to not feel bitter about how it isn't supposed to be your job to look after you and your brother. Mum just needs time to recover and Dad is busy doing important things. Things will get better. They just have to.

"So how bad was it?" you ask as you watch Tamara clean the workshop, perching yourself on one of the tables.

Your-the workshop doesn't strictly need cleaning, but Tamara likes to clean and you won't deny her one of her comforts after what she went through last night.

"Not too bad," replies Tamara as she glances over at you, "He made me reveal my secret identity, but he only got my appearance and name. Which is annoying, but it didn't go any deeper than that. I don't want to give up my job and identity, but things get bad enough I can."

"I don't think it will," you tell her, "He has no evidence and we can take measures to ensure that he looks unbelievable."

"Yes, it is annoying and potentially troublesome, but survivable," agrees Tamara, "I'm more worried about what he had me do between then and your rescue."

"How bad was it?" you ask nervously, "How much do you remember whilst under his control? Did he...?"

"The Bull felt my butt a little, but beyond that nothing," answers Tamara, "Survivable and no worse than what my roommate risks at her job. As for what I remember, it is everything. You have my deepest apologies for both attacking you and letting myself fall under his control twice. Your rescue of me would have worked if I hadn't stopped you."

"Thanks, but you don't really need to apologise," you reply, "It isn't your fault you got mind controlled. Uh, if you don't mind me asking...?"

"It wasn't pleasant, but it is not a new experience for me," says Tamara, "Losing control over your body and mind are things you learn to accept when growing up in the Kingdom of the Faeries. Honestly just being influenced into serving someone else whilst still being yourself is downright nice compared to having your personality replaced or overwritten. If I acted up as a kid, Mother would just give me a more agreeable personality until she felt like changing me back and whenever my sister wanted an extra set of hands, I was her go to individual."

"That sounds utterly horrifying," you state bluntly, staring at your mentor.

"The Fair Folk are not the Nice Folk," says Tamara indifferently, "Being kind or cruel doesn't really factor into things. You do what benefits you or amuses you. The closest that you get to kindness is fair treatment in the form of equal exchange. That's why I got exiled. My aunt wanted me out of the court, but I had done nothing that warranted punishment so I was merely exiled."

"But you did things to warrant getting your personality rewritten?" you ask sceptically.

"Eh, that was no big deal," answers Tamara, "As I mentioned earlier, transformations to both the mind and body are a staple of life back home. You don't judge them for happening, you judge them by how pleasant or harsh they are. Mum only making me act like whatever suited her current whims was downright caring of her when she could have easily made me into a statue or furniture."

"We really need to talk about this more at some point," you say, disbelieving how she can consider that kind of treatment to a kid to be sign of caring parenting.

"I would like to discuss my childhood and old home with someone I can trust," says Tamara agreeably, "But back to last night, I am not particularly bothered by the mind control on its own merits. The fact that I failed you feels me with more bad feelings. I am your knight and I should not have fallen so easily. It was bad enough that you got left on your own, but I let myself get turned against you."

"Tamara, you have given awesome magical powers that help me so much I cannot imagine life without them anymore," you tell her, "You got mind controlled, but you also gave me the ability to fly so we're even. And if I am going to blame someone, it would be this Druid for mind controlling you. Anyway, since are you okay and I am okay, I would like to know what you did for him under his control."

"Oh, he just used me to expand his magical knowledge," she tells you, "He had me write up some tomes on magical knowledge. I-I have to admit that I did my best and my best resulted in some high-quality tomes on magic and how to use it. Which I let the Druid take all three with him alongside letting him go uncontested in exchange for knowing what he did to you and where you were."

"Manchester," you say, "He sent me halfway across the whole country in a single second using magic. I have to admit that's kind of terrifying. Like utterly so."

"That's magic for you," replies Tamara, "It can be unfairly powerful at times. That said, that left him tired and it could have easily failed if he had used it on you while you had your necklace or you had dodge it. He took a gamble and this time, it payed off for him. I also don't think it is regular part of his arsenal and is something he whipped up on the spot to get rid of you."

"That-okay, it makes me feel a little better, but not by much," you reply, "Speaking of Manchester, I made sure to get the location he teleported me to so we can reference in the future. I'm not sure if he just sent me as far as he could, but..."

"He certainly did do that, but it would have to be to a place he knew well given how impromptu the spell was," says Tamara as she reaches your table in the cleaning, "Good work. I'm sure that information will prove useful once he shows his face again."

"Speaking of which..." you start, but your mentor cuts you off.

"I've already looked for him," says Tamara as she pauses in her cleaning, "He is no longer in London and I have had no other sign of him since early this morning when we parted ways. He has decided to cut his losses while he was ahead."

"I really hate that guy," you mutter, "I was looking forward to punching his face in."

"If it helps, I do believe we will see more of him in the future," says Tamara as she wraps an arm against you, "He has what he wants from us for now, but there is more that we have to offer him. Nor he is the sort of man to lie low forever. One way or another, we shall run into him again. Now my squire, is there anything in particular you want to do?"

Now that Druid has fled and gone to ground, what does Sapphire Squire want to do?
[] The Royal Ravens are on the ropes and soon Peter Michaelson will be in jail. Personally beat him up while you still got the chance.
[] Magic can be both terrifying and awesome, but it is also fun. Muck about and have fun using magic with Tamara.
[] More knowledge is always useful and it looks like you'll be helping out more at home these days. Get Tamara to teach you the basics of looking after a household.
[] Tamara is an expert at sword fighting. Have her teach you the basics so you can use a sword properly instead of cutting yourself.
[] You always wanted to ride a horse, but you never had the opportunity until now. Get Tamara to shapeshift into a horse for you to ride.

So this update was longer than I expected. I would personally call this a partial victory for Druid. You were able to make him doubt Fairy Knight's secret identity as Tamara Ly and get a connection to Manchester from him, but he got away with three magical tomes full of Fairy Knight's magical knowledge. Sapphire Squire personally considers it a defeat, but she is biased because she didn't get to kick his butt after he teleported her halfway across the country.

Beyond dealing with the Druid, you got to see more of Brenda's inner turmoil and priorities in life plus some insight to her current home situation. There also some insight into Tamara's childhood and what the Fair Folk are like, both things I intend to expand upon in the future.

The current vote is meant to be what you want to see Brenda and Tamara doing together before the events of the next arc begin since I got the next arc already planned.

Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to. Feel to ask questions for more details and information.

Well that sucks. Partial victory? Malarky.

He gained a ton of power in the form of knowledge and lost only access to a mind-controlled hero and certainty of her identity.

Were I him I'd call that zero parts defeat, some "easy come easy go", and some great successes. The crit on Tamara tomes would be a bonus.

Given his mind control abilities, this might be something where death is the only real way to contain him.

His mind control powers are a magic spell in nature. Either anti-magic measures or anti-mind control measures would work at containing him.

As for the rest, I admit that my QM perspective means I have differing opinions on things compared to the voters and their more limited perspective. So given how much worse it could have been from my perspective, I have no trouble calling it a partial victory for Druid through I can see how it could closer to a proper victory without that insider knowledge.
