London

Known Heroes and Heroic Organisations
The first costumed vigilante in both the British Isles and London, the Night appeared in early 1916. Primarily focused on fighting the Consortium and stopping the criminal empire taking advantage of the then ongoing war, the Night also focused on regular crimes and the criminals of London soon learnt to fear his presence. He vanished in mid 1919 without a trace while investigating the politician Barnaby May-Porter and his ties to the Consortium leadership.

His secret identity is Benedict Wallis, grandson of the wealthy retired politician Gareth Wallis.
The youthful squire of the Fairy Knight and aspiring heroine, Sapphire Squire relies on a mixture of physical skill, mental ability and technological gadgets. A genius and prodigy, Sapphire Squire holds her own on the streets of London and has proven herself worthy of fighting alongside her mentor. Since 25th December 1920, Sapphire Squire has gained two magical abilities from her mentor, one which allows her to change her outfit at will and provide her clothing with protective properties while the other removes her needs for sleep, food and drink.
The second squire of Fairy Knight, Onyx Squire comes from a criminal background and seeks to help the world rather than hurt it like the rest of his family. Relying mainly on his fists and hardiness, Onyx Squire has picked some equipment and magic from Fairy Knight and Sapphire Squire, the most exotic of these being his partial invisibility and complete silence.

His secret identity is David White, son of the street thug Jacob White.
Jordan Brown is a chief inspector within the Metropolitan Police. A determined man who believes in stopping criminals and protecting the innocent, Chief Inspector Brown is willingly to bend the law a little if it means seeing proper justice done.

Following his systematic dismantlement of the Dragonsteeth, Jordan Brown was promoted from Detective Sergeant to Detective Inspector. Following the arrest of the Templar, Jordan Brown has formed a formal covert partnership with the Fairy Knight.

As of 1st March 1921, Jordan Brown has been promoted to Chief Inspector from Detective Inspector under a cloud of politics, high tenses and borderline infighting amongst the Metropolitan Police.
Gareth Wallis is a wealthy man and a retired politician who has known great tragedy. The ageing man has outlived all of his family and currently lives alone in London with his butler. He was aware of his grandson's activities as the Night and covertly funded his crusade. As of January 1920, he supports and funds Fairy Knight's continuation of the Night's crusade.

Known Villains and Villainous Organisations
While some call him a hero, the Golden Knight is definitely a criminal. Appearing in 1919, the Golden Knight and his Golden Order are returning veterans of the Great War. While they fight the Consortium and claim to see justice for the people, many of the Golden Order's activities are regular organised crime and in some ways, the Golden Knight is just another crime lord who dressed up as a costumed vigilante.

On 9th February 1920, the Golden Order captured Sam Carson of the White Devils and hold him captive.
On 24th April 1920, the Golden Knight aided Fairy Knight at Anna Lucas' party.
The White Devils are a London street gang that was led by Sam Carson and backed by the Consortium. A male dominated gang that believes in the supremacy of the white Englishman, the White Devils seek to purge London of its 'foreign filth'. Covertly supported by the Consortium, the White Devils rose to prominence falling the Night's disappearance and seek to 'clean out' Whitechapel so they can turn it into their territory and use the neighbourhood as a base of operations.

On 9th February 1920, Sam Carson was defeated by Fairy Knight before being captured by the Golden Order. Following the loss of their leader, the White Devils have fallen into infighting and got systemically picked off by their foes. As of mid 1920, the gang no longer exists.

As of 25th February, Sam Carson was freed from the captivity of the Golden Order by Redcoat, presumably on the orders of the Consortium.
The Dragonsteeth were a major street gang that was founded and led by Anna Lucas. Covertly backed by the Consortium, the Dragonsteeth held a position of prominence within the London criminal underworld and the gang held great influence over several small gangs.

On 24th April 1920, Anna Lucas was defeated by Fairy Knight and later arrested by the police alongside several of her subordinates.

Between late April 1920 and early August 1920, Detective Sergeant Jordan Brown systematically dismantled the gang. He did so by arresting and putting in prison most of their leadership and membership, shutting down all of their major operations and most of their minor ones and he ruined their reputation.

As of September 1920, Cliff Gregory currently leads what is left of the Dragonsteeth with the gang having gone to ground as a remnant of their former glory.

As of April 1921, the Dragonsteeth are no more after being consumed by rivals in the gang war following the downfall of the Royal Ravens.
Levy Porter was the chief enforcer of the Dragonsteeth, a feared man for his deadly prowess. He was arrested by Detective Sergeant Jordan Brown on the 24th April 1920 after being defeated by Fairy Knight and was later sent to prison.
Levy Porter was a sub-boss of the Dragonsteeth and their main accountant. An experienced elderly man, he managed most of the gang's finances and briefly took over half of it following Anna Lucas' arrest.

He was arrested by Detective Sergeant Jordan Brown during early June 1920 and was later sent to prison.
Cliff Gregory is the current leader of what remains of the Dragonsteeth. An ambitious and dangerous man, he leads what is left of the gang after avoiding being arrested by Detective Brown.

As for 25th February 1921, Cliff Gregory is attempting to return the gang to prominence and has broken its prior ties with the Consortium.

As of April 1921, the Dragonsteeth are no more after being consumed by rivals in the gang war following the downfall of the Royal Ravens. The current fate of Cliff Gregory is unknown.
The Consortium is the top dog within the criminal underworld of London with its leadership remaining unknown to outsiders and most within the Consortium. Whilst it has sway across most of the British Isles, the Consortium is located in London where it holds the most of its power and influence.

Despite enjoying a good couple of decades of effectively uncontested dominance, the Consortium has founded itself increasing under attack in recent years with its most prominent foes being the Night, the Golden Order and Fairy Knight.
An middle-manager within the Consortium who is responsible with coordinating with outside assets. He was Windstrike's liaison when the Consortium hired her to kill Fairy Knight in March 1920.
Known as Ronald Barr in his civilian identity, the Templar is a fearsome warrior who dresses up in plate armour, styling himself after a medieval knight. Wielding his imposing war hammer, the Fist of God, the Templar is one of the most dangerous individuals on London's streets with very few capable of matching him. Having retired from the army after a decade of service at the end of the Great War, Ronald seemingly works for an Anglican organisation that seeks to purge London's streets of heretics and infidels.

He was arrested on the 18th September 1920 after being defeated by the Fairy Knight, but avoided going to prison due to destruction of evidence during his trial.
Peter Michaelson was the leader of the Royal Ravens and a member of the Consortium. The Royal Ravens were the top gang in London and the Consortium used them as a proxy to control the streets of London. Following a rash attack on the Brown family in February 1921, the full force of the Scotland Yard came down on the Royal Ravens and as of April 1921, the gang has been systemically destroyed one way or another and is effectively no more.
Allen Baxter as the chief enforcer of the Royal Ravens.

On 16th February 1921, Allen Baxter was accidentally slain by Fairy Knight in battle.
25th February 1921, the Regal Ravens split off from the Royal Ravens.

Also known as Tedd Donald, the Squirrel is a talent and agile thief who steals from the rich as a challenge. After being caught by Fairy Knight on 10th August 1920, he has given up his life of crime.
The wife of Jordan Brown and mother of Brenda Brown and James Brown. A formerly cheerful and supportive woman, she was almost killed on the 18th February 1921. While she survived thanks to Fairy Knight's intervention, her right hand has been maimed and Eira has fallen into a deep depression.

As of May 1921, Eira has fully recovered thanks to Moira Lyn and her magic.
The son of Jordan and Eira Brown and the younger brother of Brenda Brown. James Brown was a shy kid who witness his mother almost being killed in their own home on the 18th February 1921 alongside receiving injuries of his own. While he and his mother were saved by the Fairy Knight, the fallout has left him spooked and jumping at shadows.

As of May 1921, James has fully recovered thanks to Moira Lyn and her magic.

British Isles

Known Heroes and Heroic Organisations
The partner of Sentinel and student of Merlin, Galahad is a powerful superhuman with powers he claims are a gift from God. With flight, super-strength and toughness alongside his Blaze and Radiance, there are only a handful of individuals out there that can match Galahad. While he is based in Winchester, Galahad operates in all of Hampshire.
The partner of Galahad and student of Merlin, Sentinel is a genius who creates devices and invents technology beyond what the rest of the world uses. Operating out of Southampton, Sentinel no longer takes to the field as per his agreement with Galahad and instead acts as off the battlefield support to his partner.
Formed by the British government in August 1921, the Kingsmen are an officially sanctioned team of heroes that work for the national authorities. Lead by the Fairy Knight, the founding members consist of Fairy Knight, Imperial Lion, Spider and Longbow.

Known Villains and Villainous Organisations
Named for his signature redcoat, Redcoat is the deadliest killer in the British Isles with none of his targets having survived him going after them. After a week of back and forth fighting with Fairy Knight and Sapphire Squire, Redcoat was defeated by the duo on the 11th December 1920 and later arrested by the police. His secret identity was revealed to be Oliver King, a soldier turned mercenary.

On the 18th March 1921, Druid defeated Sapphire Squire and bound Fairy Knight to his will for multiple hours. On the 19th March 1921, he foiled Sapphire Squire's attempt to rescue Fairy Knight before later releasing Fairy Knight.
A hired thug of little fame, he has been known to work for the Druid. The man is more dangerous from average thug, but has yet to display any out of ordinary.

On the 19th March 1921, he was defeated by battle by Sapphire Squire.

Kingdom of the Faeries

Known Heroes and Heroic Organisations
The King of the Faeries and former ruler of the Little Court of Ireland, Tiarnach is a stern, but fair ruler. A capable warrior and respected leader, he is a highly popular leader thanks to his own actions as King and his overthrowing of his aunt. He seeks to change the ways of his people and turn them into something more noble and less capricious.

While time flows differently in the Kingdom of the Faeries, it wa roughly 6th May 1921 that Tiarnach became king.

Known Villains and Villainous Organisations
Sister to the first Queen of the Faeries and temporary usurper, Princess Taenya is an ambitious and paranoid woman. While she was able to amass a loyal following that allowed to overthrow her sister, Taenya valued loyalty and subservience over competence and ability. She would later meet her downfall when her paranoia and tyrannical rulership resulted turning half of her realm against her, purges that left her supporters greatly reduced in number and putting the most loyal subordinates in charge rather than those that were qualified to do the job.

While time flows differently in the Kingdom of the Faeries, it was roughly 6th May 1921 that Prince Tiarnach overthrow Taenya and became king.
The son of Taenya, Prince Auraen made up what he lacked in competence with obedience. He was left in charge of defending the Little Court of Scotland when his mother was overthrown, resulting in his defeat at the hands of Tamara Lyn and her squire.

Known Civilians and Neutral Organisations
The mother of Tamara Lyn and many other important fairies, the Queen of the Faeries was a powerful and uncontested leader. Having rightfully earnt both fear and respect, the Queen of the Faeries was a whimsical and capricious ruler who did what she felt like at any given moment thanks to being powerful enough to get away with it.

At some point prior to start of 1920, she was overthrown by her sister Taenya and has not been seen from since.
The daughter of the Queen of Faeries, Princes Moira rules over the Little Court of England. While she is a decent ruler, Moira is more focused on magic and improving her magical abilities. She and her half-sister Tamara consider each other to be their favourite sibling.

As of May 1921, Princess Moira has taken up the human identity of Moira Lyn.
The son of Princess Taenya, Prince Zelphar ruled over the Little Court of Wales before being disposed alongside his mother.
The daughter of the Queen of Faeries, Princes Maeryn rules over the Little Court of Cornwall. While not a bad ruler, Princess Maeryn is more interested in socialising than running her realm. Maeryn likes to spend her time engaging in politics and the high life of society.

As of May 1921, Princess Maeryn has taken up the human identity of Maeve Lyn.

I do feel a bit antsy knowing his future potential, say this remind me of something what's the requirement for Shapeshifting, I mean she only turn into birds right so what's needed to learn other creatures?

I do feel a bit antsy knowing his future potential,
It is less future potential and more that for the first few years he is active, I am knocking him down from PL12 to PL10 & PL11.

Sapphire Squire doesn't have any shapeshifting yet beyond making temporary magical inventions which let her shapeshift whilst Fairy Knight can turn into any animal that is PL8 or lower.

What does Fairy Knight ask Galahad about? (Pick 5 options)

"You're my brother's age!" ... "You're a sexy, badass magical girl. Got it."
It's not just me who thinks this is weird, right?
Onyx Squire, go with Sapphire Squire
We're going to need to abbreviate these.
"Isn't she too young to be out finding criminals?" says Galahad to you, "You're letting a kid endanger herself like this."

"Believe me, you won't say anything to me that other adults haven't told me, or anything to her that other adults and myself haven't told her."

FTFY. :V

No, at least when you look at it that way. For a look behind the scenes:
David is trying to appease the girl he just upset and could get his butt by complimenting her in ways she think she would like whilst Fairy Knight is being completely genuine in her compliment. Sapphire Squire saw through David, but has enough lingering issues about her body that she isn't going to question a good looking lad calling her sexy too much and the rest are things she considers facts. So David sort of failed, but succeeded anyway?

I got that. Its just that sliding from age to sexiness is a weird jump and stopping at Little Miss Badass probably would have worked anyway.

Maybe. I think that I could clarify that Brenda has finished going through puberty and is at her adult sizes. She has sort of reached the point where she will begin to mistaken for being older than she is more often than not. Some who know her true age will recognise just how she is from their knowledge, but a new stranger meeting her will assume that she is. Which makes you wonder about something later in the update (or at least it should).

Actually, thinking about it, I should probably edit in the earlier part of the scene that played out in my head where David commented on her being older than he heard and Sapphire Squire comments that she is almost fifteen (David's brother is fourteen and a half).

I have made the changes and they can be seen below.
"I expected you to be young from all of the stories," comments David, meeting Sapphire Squire for the first time as you introduce your two squires to each other, "They made you out to be something like a twelve or thirteen year old."

"I'm almost fifteen," corrects Sapphire Squire.

"You're my brother's age!" exclaims David earning a glower from the girl for his words.

On a related now, what Tamara, Brenda and David think about each other in terms of attractiveness and age.
Tamara on David: Good looking and has potential, but a big young for her.
Tamara on Brenda: If she was three or four years older, Tamara would be lusting for her and trying to get this beautiful, genius and awesome individual who she enjoys the company of deeply into her bed. As things stand, there is enough of an age gap between them that Tamara views her as more of a niece/daughter/little sister than a potential romantic partner.
David on Tamara: Mysterious, but benevolent magical being that is probably trustworthy. Also don't stick it in crazy.
David on Brenda: Originally hot chick, but that quickly turned into hot chick that is actually my little bro's age and can get my butt.
Brenda on Tamara: Honorary Aunt/Substitute mother
Brenda on David: Looks alright and has potential, but I want to see what he is made of first.

I'd go for "Blue" and "Black" honestly, but that's more my straightforward sense of style than what would be most useful.

I'm not exactly planning to use those nicknames. I was just making a joke based on what else the acronyms for Onyx Squire and Sapphire Squire are used for. I'll most likely refer to them in full or if I want to shorten them, I'll use either Onyx or Sapphire.

And I was almost more making a joke (albeit obtuse) about how eventually we'll end up with a Citrine and a Ruby and an Emerald and an Amethyst and either the SU jokes come out or the Sentai ones do and in either case there's a lot of fertile ground for playing with storylines in ways that disrupt expectations.

Also worth taking into account that while costumed and not spending extended amounts of time near you...it can be really hard to guesstimate someone's age, especially if they're sneaky.

True. Anyhow, between now and starting out as a vigilante, Sapphire Squire has gone from being obviously just a kid to looking like a young adult unless you know better or are looking closely. It doesn't help that she acts more like a young adult than just a kid when she is "on the clock".

God knows I got a 50 year old aunt with the height of a 14 year old.

...and can lift a 15kg steel box onehanded for hours

Fairy Knight can turn into any animal that is PL8 or lower.
The Fay realm or other realms she had visited have dragons right?
So what PL is needed to transform into a dragon, is there different types that is feared by fae to human army?
Honesty I would love to see her destroy an modern of their time army in the field.

A Dragon is PL9 so turn into one of those, Fairy Knight would need to be PL11 rather than PL10. She would also need to purchase an alternative effect for her shape-shifting power where she can turn into Monster Forms rather than Animal Forms, something I'll include as an option in the next time-skip.

Edit: Actually, I just remembered that Tamara is PL11 as of the last time-skip (Sapphire Squire went up to PL9) so you just need to purchase the alternative effect for Monster Forms.

Though noting for non M&M players, this is more utility than power, e.g. switching us to a form with AoE physical and energy attacks rather than being actually better than sword and armor.

It is pretty awesome though.

It is pretty awesome though.

It would be more of a sidegrade than an upgrade, but a Dragon!Tamara would be a literal combat monster. Just a large one that would struggle to avoid collateral damage due the damage she would dish out.

She would also be bad at any non brute force combat whilst a dragon.

Solo Sapphire
Solo Sapphire
Sapphire Squire flies above the rooftops, fluttering her wing against the wind. It isn't as fast as swinging with her grappling gauntlets, but the vigilante doesn't care about that right now. She is in no rush and it feels so awesome to fly like this. Maybe the thrill of being able to fly will fade someday, but it won't be any time soon.

Sapphire Squire wonders how Fairy Knight is doing. While they usually patrol together, they been splitting up more and more recently in order to cover more ground. While she misses the reassurance of her mentor having her back, Sapphire Squire is proud of the fact that Fairy Knight has enough faith in her to let her patrol solo.

The only downside to these patrol is that crime is hard enough to stumble across that most of the patrol is boring. Fairy Knight compensates by chatting to people and building up a connection to the local communities, but Sapphire Squire doesn't dare do that. One of the worst things about being the Sapphire Squire is all of the comments on her age and gender. She has noticed that there are less of them since she has started using blatant magic like her wings, but they still come up every now and again.

Stupid adults. Why does almost everyone think that she can't do anything just because of her age or her gender? She has taken men twice her size, defeated the infamous Redcoat and gotten rid of a gang or two. Surely that has to be enough overcome her age and gender.

An hour of patrolling and that will be it for the night, Then she can go back to the Nighthouse and work on more designs. She'll need to make another ring of night vision for tomorrow, but will only take another couple of hours. That'll leave her with another couple of hours before she needs to head home so nobody realise she was out for the whole night. One hour of that will be enchanting up another bra for total support and comfort, but she will have one hour of free time after that.

As she usually is, Sapphire Squire is thankful that Fairy Knight removed her need for sleep. She has no idea how she would have time for everything if she had to waste several hours each day like everyone else. Now she just needs to figure out how to improve her time efficiency. Perhaps improving her skill at magic? She can't help, but notice she is making increasing use of magic to compensate for her shortcomings.

She doesn't actually use magic in combat, but when it comes to patrolling and investigating, that's when she makes the most of magic. Rings of invisibility and dark vision, necklaces of charisma and other little trinkets that give her boosts beyond what she is naturally capable of.

Maybe it is possible to create something that will make easier to create more artefacts or at least increase the rate at which she is able to make devices. Sapphire Squire decides that is definitely an avenue of possibilities that she will look into. Spending a couple of hours to make something that would let make a dozen other things in only an hour would be a massive boost to her capabilities.

Ring of night vision, bra of comfort and then looking into ways to increasing the speed at which she can create magical artefacts. It might be a little selfish to spend time on the bra, but Sapphire Squire can afford to be a little selfish after all of the good she does.

Sapphire Squire appreciates all of the access to magic that Tamara has given her. It has only been a few months, but she can't imagine a non-magical life anymore. No ability to define natural laws of the world, to be completely constrained by mere human limits. It had freaked her out at first to no longer be completely human, but the advantages have just been too much for Sapphire Squire to do anything, but embrace it. She would be worried about rejecting her humanity, but when she thought about it, Sapphire Squire realised that isn't really what she is doing. She isn't replacing or rejecting parts of her, but adding new bits.

"Well I've seen her as well Jake and Sapphire is definitely a kid," says a man's voice from below, catching Sapphire Squire's attention with the mention of her name.

"You're talking nonsense," replies another man, "I've saw earlier in the week and that is a young lady. A fine young lady even if she acts nothing like a woman should."

"That is creepy dude," says the first man, "Seriously, she is a kid. And even if she wasn't, have you seen how she looks? She doesn't look boyish at all."

"The fact she doesn't look boyish is how I know she is a lady and not some kid," argues the second man, "First, she is about tall as me and taller than you. Second, her chest is motherly large and while it may not be boyish, it isn't one of a kid."

"Come on Jake, stop talking about a little kid like that."

"I can assure that nothing about the Sapphire Squire is little."

At the point, Sapphire Squire stops listening in and not just because the men are getting too far away. She fights down a blush as she doesn't know what to think of that conversation. On the one hand, she doesn't feel at all comfortable with a couple of strangers talking about her in that manner. On the other hand, one of them clearly thought she was attractive and that makes her feel pleased. Just a little bit.

Nonetheless, that is something she can worry about when she hasn't got a patrol to worry about. Sapphire Squire takes in her surroundings and identifies her patrol path, having memorised the maps of the area and the route she is taking.

She wonders how Fairy Knight is doing. Her mentor has mentioned getting another squire and apparently she found a potential candidate. Hopefully the kid will check out and while she likes the idea of being a duo with Fairy Knight, Sapphire Squire won't deny that an extra set of hands would be welcome, especially with all the trouble going on and how they are expanding their patrol area.

Plus it would be nice to have someone else to talk to about being the Sapphire Squire as socialising as a child vigilante is hard. Right now, she only really has Tamara and whilst she loves her mentor dearly, Sapphire Squire could do with another conversational partner.

A short piece showing Sapphire Squire on one of her first solo patrols, chronologically set whilst Fairy Knight was scouting out David. Just trying to show some of how Brenda deals with being the Sapphire Squire and I plan to do one for Fairy Knight.

Tales of Home and Faeries
Tales of Home and Faeries
Sapphire Squire can't help, but feel nervous as she approaches Tamara at the Wallis Mansion. She been here a few times before, each time it feels weird and like she is out of place. Her being here feels as weird as it would be for Tamara to show up at her school.

"Hey Tamara," says Sapphire Squire as she finds Tamara cleaning one of the toilets, "Could I have a healing spell?"

"Of course," replies her mentor as she looks both surprised and curious to see her squire here, "Where you hurt?"

"My hand," answers Sapphire Squire as she holds her left hand, where she burnt herself cooking not long ago.

"Did you caned again?" demands Tamara as she heals the injury with a touch and anger in her voice.

"No!" exclaims Sapphire Squire as she rushes to explain the truth, "I was cooking and got careless. I burnt myself by accidentally touching something hot because I wasn't paying attention."

"Hmm," replies Tamara, clearly not happy, "Do you require extra cooking lessons? I have become quite proficient at it and would be happy to teach you."

"And I would be happy to learn from you," answers Sapphire Squire, "But since we are on the subject, why do you have to make such a big deal out of me getting punished?"

"Inflicting harm is not a proper punishment," answers Tamara, "At least not one that you would deserve. You cannot think that you being punished by physical harm is a good thing."

"I don't like getting hurt, but criminals don't like being caught and brought to justice," counters Sapphire Squire, "That doesn't mean that it is wrong or undeserved."

"But unlike with bringing criminals to justice, harming you is pointless," says Tamara, "Hurting someone as a punishment is a deterrent built upon fear. By using physical harm to punish, you are terrorising them into doing what you are want. When we got out and fight criminals with force, we do so not to teach that what they did is wrong, but to stop ongoing misdeeds and to discourage others from committing crimes. You being injured by your teacher was pointless harm being done to you as I can't think of any reason why you couldn't have had things explained to you so you wouldn't do them again or a non-harmful punishment could have been given to you."

Sapphire Squire has to admit that the reasoning does make sense. She still can't quite see it as being wrong or as bad as Tamara does, but she understands where Tamara's reasoning is coming from.

"That's fair," says Sapphire Squire, "As we are on the topic of punishments, would you mind telling more about how they work in the Kingdom of the Faeries?"

"I have the time and do not mind telling you more about my home and childhood," answers Tamara, "But let's relocate to somewhere more comfortable than a bathroom."

***

"Thank you for the juice and biscuits Tamara," Sapphire Squire tells her mentor as she accepts the glass of apple juice and plate of biscuits.

"I am happy to serve you," replies Tamara with a curtsy, "Gareth won't be home until dinner at the earliest so we have time to talk."

"That's good to know," says Sapphire Squire as she decides how to best approach this subject, "So your childhood punishments?"

"I believe I should start with what my people are like or perhaps just are," replies Tamara, "You have to understand that Faeries are not like humans and Kingdom of Faeries doesn't work the same way as this world does. My people are quite literally inhuman and the laws of physics work differently back home."

"How different?" asks Sapphire Squire, deeply curious at the idea of physics being difference.

"Time and perception is relative there," answers Tamara, "Here, it always goes in a single direction and everyone experiences at the same rate. Back home, what could be an hour for one person could be a year for another and five minutes for a third. And while this is much rarer, it doesn't always flow the same way either as what could be someone's past could be another's future and sometimes a person would age backwards, growing younger rather than older."

Sapphire Squire decides that would be interesting to deal with. She and everyone else take it for granted that time works consistently and the same for everyone. To have that not be the case is something that she struggles to imagine dealing with.

"Faeries also aren't as emphatic as humans," continues Tamara, frowning at something, "That isn't to say that they can't or even don't care for others, but the fey look out for themselves first and foremost. Back home, you worry about yourself before considering anyone else. Everything is viewed though the lenses of self-interest so you have to bare that in mind when judging how kind or cruel my people are in their actions. Though I have to admit that the difference is often one of passive harm versus active harm.

Jokes and tricks are a part of everyday life back home. From tricking someone into wasting their time to baiting them into a trap to transforming their body or mind, pranks made up most of life back home. You could generally tell how benevolent someone was or how much they liked another individual by what pranks they played on them. Prank was also the primarily form of retribution for wrongdoing."

"So being pranked was a punishment?" says Sapphire Squire, sceptical about how that would work.

"Less that and more that the difference between a prank and a punishment was the intentions behind it," clarifies Tamara, "A prank is done in jest and amusement while a punishment is done to right a wrong."

"So how did you get punished?" inquires Sapphire Squire, remember how her mentor mentioned that having her mind changed was a punishment in her childhood.

"Mother loved it when someone got turned into someone else," answers Tamara and Sapphire Squire sees where she is going with this conversation, "I think that my father's ability to turn into other things is what endeared him to my mother and my inheritance of it is what left her so fond of me. Regardless of why she cared for me or my father, Mother almost exclusively used transformations with tricks and traps having at least one transformation involved somewhere. Every time she punished someone, it involved changing their mind or body.

For me, that meant changing my mind. My shapeshifting meant that she couldn't turn me into an animal or person as I could just change away from that and Mother cared for me enough to respect my dislike of being turned into some non-living. So I got mental changes whenever I was punished or got in the way."

"Got in her way?" repeats Sapphire Squire before she latches onto another part of Tamara's words, "Wait, non-living transformations?"

"I loved my mother, but I cannot deny that she was a monster," explains Tamara, stunning her squire with that statement regarding the woman who gave birth to her, "Especially since my exile. Mother would transform people whenever she felt like. She would alter my mind whenever she found me too annoying or wanted to be rid of me. Sometimes I was blissfully stupid, other times I would submissively obey anything I was told to do and occasionally she made me mono-focused on a single thing."

"That sounds utterly horrifying," declares Sapphire Squire, shocked that anyone would treat someone else that way, let alone their own daughter.

"It was a part of life back home," replies Tamara with a shrug, "You got pranked and tricked and for me, that meant being transformed by my mother whenever she felt like it. It happened sometimes and when it did occur, I just dealt with it. Like how you have to deal with unexpected weather sometimes. I would even deliberately annoy Mother at times if I had time to kill just to see what she would do to me."

"Why would do that?" exclaims Sapphire Squire, "That's crazy!"

"Curiosity and boredom," answers Tamara, "It is weird for you, but a lot of fey are more malleable. Just take me for example. I can shapeshift into any animal or human woman and lack an inherent form. Whilst you only have a single body, changing it is a big deal, but for the likes of me? Like changing your hair by cutting or dying it and sometimes it happens at your choice whilst other times it is forced upon you."

That is something that Sapphire Squire can't quite grasp. To just alter your body and mind casually...she guesses that cutting your hair does technically count as changing your body, but transforming it wholesale is just on a different level. Comparing it to cutting your hair feels like comparing cutting your nails to chopping off your arm. One is just so much more extreme.

And then there is the other thing that Tamara stand which stands out in her mind.

"And the other bit?" says Sapphire Squire, "About non-living transformation? How can you turn into something that isn't alive? Would that just be killing someone?"

"Animals, plants and people are alive and transformations into them are generally divided into those three categories," Tamara launches into an explanation, "Things like dresses, chairs and curtains are not alive and transforming into is a non-living transformation as a result. As for staying alive when your body isn't capable of surviving on its own, the magic sustains you and keeps you alive. It is the same principles behind the magic that lets you survive without needing to eat, drink or sleep. The magic takes the place of those biological needs and keeps you alive. With a non-living transformation, there isn't any biological needs to replace, but otherwise, it works the same way."

"That makes sense," mutters Sapphire Squire, mapping out the magical theory in the her head and winces as she begins to think up spells that would let her do it, "I do hate the idea of it being done to me though."

"My feelings are similar," says Tamara, "I hate not being able to move or do anything so anything that leaves me inanimate is something that I can't stand. However, if I am able to move such as a doll or statue that retains mobility, I do not mind. How does that sound to you?"

"I'll pass," replies Sapphire Squire drily before something occurs to you, "I don't think I could just give up my humanity like that. Wait, have you ever...?"

"Three times it has happened to me," answers Tamara, giving her squire a wry smile, "First was when Mother turned me into her throne for a bit so I could see first hand what ruling was like without interrupting the court. Mother does that to all of her children as part of our education. Second was when Mother transformed someone into a dress and Moira commented she would like one of her own. As the next person that Mother saw, she transformed me into an identical dress for Moira and so I spent some time as part of my sister's wardrobe. The last time was back when I got knighted. Mother gave me Talatine as a reward for my success and swearing service to her, but in exchange for Torlyn, she wore me for the next year."

"Was Torlyn worth agreeing to that?" asks Sapphire Squire quietly.

"Definitely," answers Tamara without hesitation then actually hesitating before she continues, "Though saying that I agreed to it isn't accurate. Another aspect of my home that you should understand is that proper payment is more important that consent. So long as you pay your debts and don't overstep your position, you can do what you want to others. This basically means that if you don't go after a superior and give equivalent exchange for what you did, you don't need consent."

"That is utterly horrifying," whispers Sapphire Squire as she stares in shock at her mentor.

"I love my mother, but I cannot deny that she was a monster," says Tamara, "A monster who genuinely cared for me, but a monster nonetheless."

Now that is something that Sapphire Squire isn't able to relate to. Her parents have always been good people who loved her and James. The idea of having a monster in the family is alien to her and not something she has any experience with.

"I'm sorry," says Sapphire Squire, unsure of what else to say.

"It is not your fault," replies Tamara, "We would had this discussion sooner or later if only so that you know how to deal with any fae that you encounter. I hope I haven't scared you too much."

"I don't scare the easily," replies Sapphire Squire, "I'll be fine through I am glad that I don't need to sleep anymore. And as you say, I should learn this stuff as part of my magical education."

"I am glad to hear that," says Tamara, giving her squire a warm smile, "Since this hasn't unsettled you too much, would you mind I told you about my sister Moira some time? Of the people I left behind, she is the one I got on with the best and the one I miss the most."

"Is she the one that...that turned you into a dress?" asks Sapphire Squire with a cringe towards the end, "Oh that feels so weird to say."

"Technically it was my mother who did the deed and it was many centuries ago," says Tamara, "Even if she was responsible, much has happened since then to endear me to her and vice versa. Of all my family, Moira was the one that I cared for and loved the most."

"Tamara, if you want to talk to me about your sister at some point, I would be happy to listen to you," Sapphire Squire tells her mentor, "Do you want to do it now?"

"As much as I would like to, no," replies Tamara, "I should be getting back to work and you need time to digest what I just told you about my home and people. It is a pleasure to have you visit and I enjoyed your company. Feel free to finish the biscuits and juice before leaving."

***

So this interlude is to try and give some perspective on fey society and how they differ to human society. I drew upon the stories of giving equal payments or paying appropriate respect combined with them being playful and not so playful tricksters.

I also used more horror-like stories of transformations, lack of consent, and inhumane payment to show that the fey are not only inhuman, but also not at all nice. Only the first two got included in the side story as I don't see Tamara bringing up stories of gouging out eyes and literally taking one's heart to her squire until Sapphire Squire is more used to what the fey are like or it become relevant.

Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to. Feel to ask questions for more details and information.

First of all word order is wrong around "you would mind", secondly:
"Would you like me to tell you about my sister?"
"Sure she sounds interesting."
"No I'm busy."

Why ask now Tamara. :V:V:V

Tamara was asking if it was an okay topic to bring up in the future rather asking to do it now. I tried to make it clear that Tamara asking about a future conversation on the subject by putting "some time" at the end to indicate some time in the future, but I can see how that might be missed or not clear.

[X] Exchange stories regarding your various adventures.

"What can you do?" you ask, giving the man an appraising look, "I know you can fly, but I don't know much about you beyond what I have personally witnessed you do."

"That is a fair enough starting point," replies Galahad, "Like I suspect you do, I got a few different abilities. I've got two broad powers and then the rest are either a mixture of individual specific powers or another big broad one. I don't actually know how they interact with each other beyond the effects I can get from them. The biggest one is what I call the Blaze. I basically got this brazier of fire that I can call upon and shape. I only have so much of it, but I can shape it into weapons, armour and tools, but I can also fire it off as blasts of fire or just expel it from me to burn everything around me. I'm using it right now for my armour. Look."

And with that word, Galahad summons a sword to his hand, made of the same fiery light that his armour is made of before replacing it with a spanner.

"Next I got the Radiance, which is like the Blaze, but is light rather than fire so I got his basin of liquid light to draw upon," continues Galahad, "The light of the Radiance will just seep into my body and heal me if I leave it alone, but I can also direct it if I want to. I can diffuse into my body to speed up the healing at the cost of making it less potent and I can also heal someone else by touching them and letting the Radiance flow into them. I can also just expel it from my body like I can with the Blaze except the Radiance heals rather than burns. I would show you it, but that would require someone being hurt."

"Those would be the two broad abilities that you understand," you comment, privately curious about just how strong this Blaze and this Radiance are, "What about the rest?"

"I've got my flight, which you've seen," says Galahad, "I can just fly under my power and can go faster than everything I've encountered. Beyond that, I am strong enough to juggle cars and I've got toughness to match. I've been shot and blown up without any injury done to me and I can just endure for longer. I barely need to sleep anymore and I done need to eat or drink as much either."

"That is an impressive power set," you tell Galahad as even back home, that set of abilities would have been dangerous to deal with, "Does Sentinel have similar abilities to you?"

"No, Sentinel and I aren't connected beyond working together as partners," answers Galahad, "He is a smart kid who relies upon his genius and the inventions he comes up with rather than any innate abilities."

"What kind of inventions?" asks Sapphire Squire, perking up at the mention of another heroic inventor.

"Stun batons which are basically electrified pipes," answers Galahad, "Scrap armour which needs to be pretty much remade each time but is shockingly effective and a couple of other tricks that I shouldn't tell you about without permission."

"I've got smoke bombs, grappling gauntlets and an armoured costume amongst other things," Sapphire Squire tells Galahad, "If Sentinel would like to talk shop sometime, I would be happy to."

"I'll pass that on to him Sapphire Squire," says Galahad, "I can't promise that he'll take the offer up though."

"Judging from what you mentioned about Sentinel using his inventions, I presume that you are looking into a technological solution for quick long-range communication?" you inquire.

"Sort of," replies Galahad, "How much do you know about Merlin?"

"Merlin Ambrosius, also known as Myrddin Wyllt, is the greatest known magic user," you answer instantly as every fairy knows who Merlin is, "He served as the court wizard of King Arthur Pendragon of Camelot before being sealed away in a Realm. He has brought down gods and kingdoms even if he lacks their ability to have widespread influence."

"Ah, so you do know about Merlin," says Galahad as he gives you an inquiring look.

"All of the Fair Folk do," you explain, "As does any competent magic user. You can't be properly educated in magic without knowing who Merlin is."

"That is good to know," says Galahad, "Anyway, Merlin is mentoring me and Sentinel in the sort of mysterious mentor-y way. Basically just advice and wisdom over directly helping us or getting actively involved. But anyway, Sentinel is thinking of using Merlin's help to get a technological base system with magic covering the details and shortcomings. Given the current limits of science, it looking increasingly like the better idea than going pure tech."

"Magic works well at covering the weak spots of technology," comments Sapphire Squire, "I'm talking from experience here."

"Are you good at both magic and tech?" inquires Galahad, glancing over at Sapphire Squire.

"About equally good at both these days," answers Sapphire Squire, "I find it best to use a blend of both rather than relying solely on one or the other."

"And I trust my squire's judgement in these sorts of matters," you declare, earning a grin from the lass in questions, "So you have experience with the supernatural?"

"A little and only a little," admits Galahad, "I know Merlin, but he keeps his secrets close to his chest and frankly, he is my main source of the extraordinary outside of my own abilities. I fought a man with strength equal to my own called Bull, but that was the only thing special about him. Apart from meeting you two, that is all."

"Was this Bull stout, muscular and wearing leather armour all over?" demands Sapphire Squire.

"Yes, he was," answers Galahad, "You know him?"

"Kick his butt back in March," replies Sapphire Squire, "He got away thanks to his partner at the time and he went down quick enough that I didn't get to see what he could do. He didn't even land a hit before I took him out. The fact that he has super strength is something nice to know if he ever shows up again."

"You had your fair share of adventures too huh?" says Galahad, half-asking and half-stating.

"Mostly against the Consortium," you answer, "Whilst I have encountered a few other foes, we spend most of our time battling the Consortium here in London."

"The Consortium are all over the country," replies Galahad, "I spent most of my time fighting them down south as well. They've got their hooks into the local authorities so I find it most effective to physically knock out their street operations. Are things different here?"

"Not as much as I would like," you tell him, "We got some allies in the local authorities and the Consortium has a rival in the form of the Golden Order, but they still hold overall control. Or at least they did until recently. We've broken their dominance of the streets and their attempt to get it back fell apart whilst they have overplayed their hand amongst the local law enforcement so the lawmen of the city are currently against the Consortium for the most part."

"They had the local MP in their pocket in Winchester," says Galahad before pausing, "I guess it is more of a has than a had despite my best efforts. I've been hiding their street operation for over a year now, but I've haven't been able to drive them out of their legitimate positions of power even if they got those positions via corruption and crimes."

"Same here," you comment, "I know that the one of the important politicians, a man called Barnaby May-Porter, is part of the Consortium's leadership, but their power within the kingdom has kept me from directly striking at them."

"Wait, Barnaby May-Porter is in bed with the Consortium?" exclaims Galahad, staring directly at you.

"I have enough evidence to put in him in jail if it wasn't for the corruption within the government protecting him," you inform Galahad, "He is actually one of those that leads the Consortium."

"And here I thought things were bad enough," mutters Galahad with a sign, "Still, more knowledge is better than less. Thanks for letting me know this Fairy Knight."

"You are welcome Galahad," you say, "If you do not mind sharing, what motivated you to become a vigilante?"

"I had been blessed with powers from God and there was evil and injustice about," answers Galahad, "I had to do something to help others and I ended up being Galahad. You?"

"Exiled from the Kingdom of the Faeries due to my father being human," you answer back, "I ended up in London and decided to investigate what happened to the Night. I found evidence of corruption within the government and then I took down a gang that was moving into the neighbourhood due to the Night's absence. After that, I just have done my duty as a knight to protect the innocent and fight evil."

With your respective stories exchange, the two of you turn to face Sapphire Squire.

"I wanted to make a difference by doing some good," says Sapphire Squire, "I also wanted to, well, be me and do things without being held back by my gender. I ran into Fairy Knight and she took me on as her squire. Since then...I've been going meaningful good, I'm happy and I get to do my best."

"What about Sentinel?" you inquire and Galahad pauses.

"I don't actually know his origins now that I think about it," admits Galahad, "I only met him after he was already active for a bit and we haven't actually talked about it."

"How did you meet?" asks Sapphire Squire.

"Well, that is a bit of a story," says Galahad, "I'm happy to tell you, but it might take a while unless I cut some of the details."

"I got time," you tell him as you glance at your squire, who knows at your unspoken question, "And so does my squire."

The story of Galahad meeting Sentinel was that surprising simple once you got down to it and cut the build up to it. Merlin had been scouting out potential heroes other than Galahad and when investigating Sentinel, Sentinel had detected he was being watched and had gone to ground.

You have to admit that is rather impressive to get one over Merlin like that. Especially since neither you nor Sapphire Squire have noticed Merlin spying on you.

Due to that, Merlin had Galahad approach Sentinel where they have a brief chase where Sentinel barely failed to get away. They talked and the two of them came to an agreement where Sentinel would provide support for Galahad whilst Galahad took the field.

Of course, Galahad put much more detail into the story and took several minutes to tell it. From there, Galahad inquires after how you and Sapphire Squire met, leading to an exchange of stories as the two of you regale your fight against Redcoat.

Galahad finds how it involved multiple battles across several days before telling you about his own fight against Redcoat back in October. Like he had against you, Redcoat resorted to using explosives and long ranged guns against Galahad. The other hero tells you how the sniper failed to hurt him and Redcoat discarded it after a brief melee tussle. Galahad sheepishly explains despite his superior strength, the assassin's skill with his fist proved too much for the vigilante even if Redcoat wasn't able to take Galahad down. The affair ended with Redcoat bringing down a building on Galahad, by exploding it whilst Galahad was still inside. Galahad was left unconscious, but alive and Redcoat decided to call it a day after that.

Then it is your turn as you tell both Galahad and Sapphire Squire about your clash with the Templar, how he attacked the innocent and you were unable to stop him from running off after he succeeded in his vile crime. You go on to say how you found yourself overwhelmed in the first trap you set before taking down Templar with ease in your third and final encounter.

After that, Sapphire Squire takes a turn as she expands on her fight with the Bull, telling Galahad about both the lead up to it and the Bull's partner Druid. Galahad is left concerned by the possibility of mind control and to a lesser extent, being teleported across the country.

With that story concluded, Galahad takes the opportunity to tell you about Gallowswoman, a self-proclaimed vigilante who is truthfully a serial killer. Gallowswoman took it upon herself to bring 'justice' to those that she believed escaped it, which basically meant she went around killing criminals. It wasn't until she had slain over fifty people, including several innocent bystanders that she was finally stopped with Gallowswoman finding her match in Galahad.

The last tale of heroics shared between the three of you is a recent one as Galahad listens to you and Sapphire Squire inform about your team up with Sturmschwert to defeat Eisenfaust. To your surprise, Galahad already knows who Sturmschwert and Eisenfaust are even if he lacks the details that you acquired from first-hand encounters through the monster you fought is something that he knows nothing about.

When that tale is over, Galahad begs his leaves as he has obligations back in Hampshire that he has to tend to. He takes off, leaving you and Sapphire Squire to figure out just what this encounter means for the two of you.

Of all the things you were expecting to return home to, Lydia having green hair was not one of them.

"What happened?" you ask the Woodsworth sisters as they sit at the table, getting your guard up at the sight of the impossibility.

"Your sister apparently," says Ellen, "She showed up looking for you and did magic on Lydia when she got snappy and then left us with a note."

"What did she look like and did she give her name?" you demand, taking the possibility of one of your many siblings showing up very seriously.

Your family are not nice people and if one of them has shown up in London, possibly looking for you...

Well, you've been out of touch with the politics back home long enough that you aren't sure what it means. What your aunt did was unprecedented and nobody knew what the future would hold at the time of your exile.

"Tall, slender with blonde hair and blue eyes," answers Ellen, "Called Moira."

"Moira," you whisper, recognising the name of your favourite sister and the one you love the most.

Even as you grew excited at the prospect of seeing her again, you wonder on what she of all people is doing here. Moira was trusted and liked by Mother enough that she ruled over one of the six Realms that make up the Kingdom of the Fairies. She shouldn't be here looking for you unless...

You don't know what she would be doing here. She might have been exiled by the usurper Taenya or perhaps the usurper has been usurped herself and Moira is looking to bring you back from your exile. Or maybe Moira just wants to visit you or maybe Taenya has revoked Moira's rule or even usurped herself. Perhaps Moira is here looking for you on Taenya's orders.

Whatever the reason, you really want to see your sister again. The only downside is that your sister is fey and not human so if the situation requires, Moira wouldn't hesitate to act against you and she is powerful enough that you would struggle in a fight against her. If her interests don't align with hers...you know that she cares for you enough not to do anything too untoward, but she will always put what is best for her over what is best for you.

"Well, she didn't exactly give us her name," continues Ellen as she glances at her sister, "But..."

"Since Mistress Moira used her magic on me, I can only refer to her as Mistress Moira and you as Mistress Tamara," says Lydia, flushing red with embarrassment, "Mistress Tamara, you can undo this right? I am not going to be stuck like this forever?"

"Let me check," you tell her housemate as move into read the magic being used on her, "Hmm...give me a moment to find the magic she has used on it. Looks like a couple of impromptu spells she came up with on the spot. They'll wear off shortly, no more than two hours. I would offer to break them myself, but it would take longer for me to come up with something to do that than it would for them to wear off."

"Thanks Mistress Tamara," says Lydia with a grateful smile as Ellen lets out a sigh of relief, "I suppose I shouldn't be snappy with Mistress Moira in the future."

"That would be for the best," you tell both of them, "Don't be rude or anything other than polite and respectful with a fairy, but especially Moira. They won't hesitate to extract proper restitution for the insult and even it being unintentional would only lower the reparation that they seek. This is especially the case with Moira as she is one of the most powerful out there, more so than me. If she decides to do anything to you on a more permanent basis, I could only ask her nicely to not do it."

Technically not true, but close enough and it will serve the point of getting her housemates to understand that they shouldn't mess with your sister.

Now you just need to deal with your sister. Taking the note that Ellen offers you, it has a time and place for you to meet her tonight. You will certainly take her up on it, but you will invite with you.

Who does Tamara take with her to meet Moira?
[] No one. You will face your sister on your own.
[] Your squires. You will take both of your squires to face Moira.
[] Sapphire Squire. You will take your oldest and most capable squire to deal with Moira.
[] Onyx Squire. You will take your newer squire with you to deal with Moira to give him the experience.
[] Write-in.

This update took me a while to get done. I didn't have Fairy Knight ask each question individually but tried to weave the winning votes into the conversation. With the exchange of stories, I had them summarised as it would have taken too long to write all out individually.

You also get to see the return of Moira and this will be the main shake up of the status quo through you will get some influence on it. There will be changes, but you will get some player agency over them if not total player agency.

I hoped to get an interlude of Tamara telling Sapphire Squire about Moira out before reaching this point but was unable to. So now you get to go in blind as players.

Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to. Feel to ask questions for more details and information.
