Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest!

If lvl20 was a prerequisite for another Item in the Shop, we probably would have at least been given a hint to that before.

The same shop had multiple abilities with ????? only as the description and no hints given as to how to unlock them.

I personally would rather see what the mile stone is for Celestial severance because if it's useful and we never upgrade it past the level we currently at, we would be beating ourselves over it for the rest of the damn quest.

It's just 3 levels left. Not much of a deal breaker you're currently painting it as.

Given the themes involved with how Magical Girls growth I strongly suspect hitting the effective gap for a Spell will have some effect. For all we know Celestial Severance could undergo something similar to Ability Evolution and turn into a new more useful spell*.

*I don't think we've hit our target with Celestial Severance for IRL years. Which makes sense since it reached the OHKO point long ago and that kinda spoils fights. That actually makes it a prime candidate for Ability Evolution I think.
I am... not sure I agree.
I mean, what would it even turn into?

And how would Crys balance a change into an entirely different Spell without drawing a massive amount of salt from the players for taking away their 6.5mil Unstoppable damage?

Actually...
@Crystalwatcher, can Spells even go through a process comparable to Ability Evolution, where they turn into something else, in the first place?

Yes, but there would probably be something about CS lvl20 noted instead of question marks if that was a prerequisite (aside from the fact none of the named ones seem like it fit them). Additionally, stuffing another 540 EXP into it is wasteful if we do not actually need it at the moment. I would rather wait to find out more about those other options.

It's better to be prepared for the moment we will need it, than to be without it and find a moment where it would have been good to have in hindsight.

If I'm wrong about this, I'll say I'm sorry but right now? I'm going with what makes the most sense to me.

[X] Plan Divine Preparation
[X] Save It~

I'm tentatively against leveling Celestial Severance. What it offers is damage and in cases where Solid Core needs much more damage she can activate Core Purge and wipe out a neighborhood. Spreading EXP around for no reason with exponential options is pretty bad for our max damage output too, we're well past the point where keeping things even is helpful.

Another thing to consider is some of the shop is behind Progenitor Frame. Items which I expect to be expensive, but if they give some mitigation to Solid Core ending up on the losing side of (almost) every ability interaction I badly want them.

Personally I just want to get their milestones out of the way, see what the hell they are and what the hell they do and see if they unlock anything that we would likely want.

We can save our exp all we want afterwards, they are nearly finished. From what I remember, the milestones were pretty god damn good when we unlocked them and this is likely not the exception.

You are taking this out of nowhere.
What makes you think there are any more useful milestones when CS already has four Abilities?

That aside, Prime Evil Slayer is not particularly useful due to how rarely it applies in the first place. It ruins the days of anyone it can apply to, but the Spell proper already does that anyway.

So... why do you call CS "nearly finished" when it already one-shots basically anyone and there is no sign there will even be anything new unlocked at lvl20? You could at least call it a gamble, which it is. The Spell itself is properly finished.

Because it is nearly finished, do I need to spell things out for you?

When we reach a milestone we always got something different and useful so far. Right now we have three things that are nearly at the level 20 milestone.

Where are you getting that we will get nothing from when there is evidence, actual evidence that we will get something from leveling these spells to level 20?

-edit-

Whether they would unlock something or directly boost their capabilities we will still get something from it.

No.
The point is that milestones stop at some point. There is confirmation that ICore's next useful milestone will be at... I think level 40. The same goes for Weapons and Spells. At some point they just have all the stuff.

Look at all of the other girls on the front page. None of them has a Spell with more than four Abilities. Celestial Severance is not going to get a new one at 20. 30 or 40 maybe, but not at 20.
So the Spell itself could only gain an upgrade to its Double Cast, which is basically useless with how much damage it deals already.

I am not saying there is nothing. I am saying there is nothing useful to be gained. You want to gamble on the hope the lvl20 is a hidden requirement for another good Shop Item, of which we have no hints for.

And there is no hints against that not being a thing. If you look at the shop, there are rarely hints for anything. In that situation we can only explore all available options in order to hope something happens.

And unless Crystal says otherwise, I choose to believe that celestial Severance, which turns into Peace's main weapon, would eventually unlock something useful.

Likely something regarding Peace or War which if you look at the shop.

Cataclysmic Symphony: The Memory of [WAR]
-Remember...
-????
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Cataclysmic Symphony: Fragment of [PEACE]
-Remember...
-????
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

These are two things that idea fits into. Not to mention that it might have something to do with this.

Emissary To The Core (Multi)
-Progenitor Frame Awoken
-????
-1,000xp
-??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Because it's our strongest spell. But really for that one, it would make more sense if getting the Purifier Beam up higher would unlock that.

Yes, eventually. But not as low as level 20.

That aside, it is doubtful that many -if any- of the current Items are gated behind levels. It is much more likely Crys gated them behind certain events, otherwise those requirements would not be hidden from us at the moment. It would be bad design to keep the parts we already have access to hidden.

And if they are only hidden so we have to guess now but will be revealed later, we can always spend EXP on it at that point. CS has the nice perk of being much easier to control because its collateral damage does not grow from increased damage, so the point about having to relearn it is mostly moot there.

Honestly, I'm tired of arguing about this so I'll bow out now. I just hope I've been clear on why I think how I do.

But I will say this. Are you absolutely, positively sure nothing will happen getting celestial severance to level 20? If so, where did you get the data?

Or stop looking in the future, you'll fuck up the past.

-edit-

Honestly, I wish the milestones for everything was directly posted in the shop. Not what you get from them, just what levels to aim for.

It will cut out a lot of this not knowing crap.

I get this from talking to Lost and Crys a lot about design of Magical Girls in general, as well as QMing Libra's Lament for the last year. Actually being the QM gives you a lot of insight into how this stuff works. It also helps in predicting how a fellow QM acts.

So yes, I am absolutely sure that any relevant unlock for something big and useful will not be gated behind CS 20. Maybe higher levels, but not 20.

I can confirm that Emissary, at least, is completely unrelated to your Celestial Severance level.

We know (Crys has confirmed) that CS will never be anything other than a 50 meter arc. Nothing except divine beings should need more raw numbers than 6 million unstoppable damage, especially given it has echo and we can cast it 4 times/turn, but if we do, we can always use the main gun via core purge. And we know it can't hurt DBs.

CS's problem is esoteric defenses and dodging. We don't need more damage on it. I suppose if the milestone was undodgeable or nonlethal it would be useful, but that doesn't make any sense for the spell. Triple/quadruple cast or something makes much more sense.

The possibility of it gating some purchase is much more persuasive, but even then, there is a massive difference between gating something hidden behind a shop item and gating something hidden behind an ability level. One is far more obvious than the other. It's also true that heavy investment can make MGs develop abilities, but that would be if we leveled CS to 40 or something while leaving the rest as-is. Those are rewards for specialization, not random milestones.

Even if it does, though, we are probably about to fulfill the requirement for in memoire, so I'd rather save EXP to spend on that than risk not having enough by getting something now.

Also, we know at least one thing has activating progenitor frame as a requirement, and that activating it might also reveal other requirements. We probably shouldn't spend EXP till doing so.

We also know our mechanism for fighting DBs (aside possibly the Progenitor Frame) is a spell we can get, though I'm not sure how much of what I know is public info. We should save EXP for leveling that as well.

Lastly...there's no reason to go for CS now. We can still get it just as easily after we've done those things and seen what options they open up. The EXP isn't going to run away if we save it.

And if we somehow do need more CS damage later? Nothing stops us from upgrading it on the spot. We don't even need training for increased CS levels.

Elf Economics, Industry, and Warfare
Elf Economics, Industry, and Warfare
A.K.A. Why the Elf Empire is still considered one of the strongest factions in the LDC.

The Elvin Empire, more commonly known simply as The Empire, is the largest polity in the entire Local Dimensional Cluster by the number of dimensions they 'claimed'. This means they own what amounts to dozens of worlds within their territory as well as having a population count that can otherwise be considered ludicrous for their 'technological' level. One thing to keep in mind is that Magic is a big determining factor in how different the rest of the LDC is from Humanity, something that was the backbone to the Empire's expansion and the central source of most of their power.

Economy
The Empire's economy resembles ancient Rome. Just instead of using gold coins as currency, they instead use a rarer titanium-based mixture for their coinage called Dex. A single Dex when traded with Humanity being more or less the equivalent to $0.54 U.S. dollars or so. Or, roughly, 1/3 an Akashic Credit. Goods and services are usually measured based on which 'Colony' you're on at the time, and the local resources with their ability to trade with other nearby colonies. Shit tends to be cheapest near the colonies with Super Gates due to how easy it is to get stuff from one world to another with them.

Recently though, they've been investigating the Akashic Pillar's "Bounty System" as another way to get extra resources along the front line to reduce the strain their armies tend to place on their outer most colonies. It's a bit touch and go, but results are promising.

Industry
On the outside, Elf Industry and Manufacturing looking downright medieval. With smiths waving hammers pounding away at shields and armor, and Elf wizards chanting over chunks of metal. What an outsider wouldn't know though, is that custom work for weapons and armor like that is actually for the high ranking officers and nobles that can afford very high quality work out of pocket. In order to supply their armies with arms and armor, and their civilians with required goods such as nails and processed wood, the Empire came up with a rather novel way to automate a lot of their industry.

How you might ask? Well, they use Necromancy.

Utilizing necromantic spells to animate particularly simple golems and liches, Elves have functionally bastardized automated assembly lines and mass-smelters. They use enchanted molds to shape hundreds of swords and spears at a time while strip-mining uninhabitable locations with armies of skeletons and treants in such a way they also slowly terraform the world they're mining. Most of the Elf Core Colonies were actually claimed this way, being beautiful icons of nature and livelihood, while having more or less no natural resources left. They even strip battlefields of fallen weapons and armor as well to feed the endless hunger of their enchanted industrial juggernaut.

In sheer output, they actually outstrip Earth itself, though they have nowhere near the same accuracy, or quality, that humans are capable of.

Warfare
Quite possibly the biggest question regarding Elves is how they manage to field what amounts to the largest armies in the LDC, and that is actually answered in the fact that, like Rome, they have a mandatory military service in order to gain citizenship. They don't do slaves -liches and golems are both cheaper and more efficient anyway- but in order to have any kind of say in government, one has to spend at least three years in the military. So virtually every elf -in some way- has combat experience and has armor and weapons left over from their time in the army. Meaning that invading an elf world is effectively assaulting a world-sized militia garrison.

On the defense, the Empire likes to raise thick walls and maze-like fortresses that allow them to use and abuse their usually greater numbers while limiting their enemy's champion-level combatants. Though, it's not always successful. On the offence, they prefer to go with slow and steady advances backed up by mobile war machines and siege engines that are in turn supported by mages. Usually in an effort to simply overwhelm their enemy in a crushing tide of flesh and steel.

Recently though, the Empire has also started collaborated with humans and testing out Akashic Pillar tactics that they can adopt easier without a need for high-level technology. This has manifested in "Elf Commandos" such as Aquila Riven, the Elf of Team GEAR. They've been trained to range far ahead of the main Elf Host as both scouts and saboteurs against enemy forces, using spells such as blast runes or exploding arrows to assassinate high-ranking Unified Darkness commanders, or damaging UD staging grounds. Some times even disrupting Demonic portals to cut off reinforcements from Hell.

There's been rumors that the Empire has also been trading for some old schematics and ideas from the Akashic Pillar as well, such as Tanks, but so far those are just that: rumors.

If the elves are an empire, who's the emperor? And how much power do they actually have?

Do elves die of old age, and if so, when? (Okay, this might've already been mentioned. I'd have to search Aquila's comments to be sure.)

(On another note, this has only increased my curiosity about liches :/)

The Empire is really close to England in it's structure. You have the Emperor that ca do pretty much whatever he wants and the position is inherited by one of his kids who is/will be chosen by a house of High Nobles. So, as you can guess, the royal family tends to be a bit big. Any that fail to be chosen tend to go off to become a governor somewhere.

The House of Nobles tends to be made up from the heads of the five most influential Noble Houses in the Empire. From there they each have their own own groupings of lesser noble houses who all answer to the Emperor in the end.

Elves do die from old age, the average life span being something like 70 years if I remember correctly. I said definitely somewhere else in the Thread I think.

As for Liches, thing magical machines. The more complex the Lich -or larger the phylactery- the smarter the lich is. Though they tend to follow orders pretty happily. There's been one or two instances of a Lich going the way of Hal, but those were because of stupid orders by their masters.

Regarding the bolded sentence: It should be noted that that's exactly what happened to HAL - it was given incompatible orders, and the conflict could only be resolved if the crew was no longer in the picture. (At least, that's what I remember from the book...)
