I could've sworn the ABB was a gang that wished replace Americans with Asians as the dominant ethnicity. You can't exactly do that effectiovely without knowing and respecting your own culture's tradition.

Uh... citation please? I don't recall much if any motivation for the ABB beyond a simple Us vs Them in a city populated by E88. Hell, pretty sure Lung didn't care about the ABB beyond a means to an end, that end being his own comfort.

...holy crap. Not only a National Treasure but a painting of a man whose writings are super relevant in the situation and conversation.

For those who missed it / don't know:
- The painting depicts one Zhou Dunyi, who lived during the Song Dynasty.
- He is considered the Founding Father of the Cheng-Zhu School and a major influence on Zhu Xi, one of the greatest Confucian thinkers since Confucius himself.
- He is also known for two writings, the "Explanation of the Diagram of the Supreme Polarity" (Taijitu shuo) and Penetrating the Classic of Changes (Tongshu).

Confucianism is well known for its principle of holding every day tasks as sacred, with particular focus on family and social harmony. It's also a key principle that all humans are fundamentally good, and through personal and communal endeavours, can grow to be better than what they once were.

Basically?

"Your first offence to me and my own will be noted koi, however, you still have a waterfall before you to climb, and I will be watching."
Christ, that makes Lung's actions even worse. He stepped all over the core concepts of Confucianism the entire time he was at the shrine without even realizing it and found it amusing when he realized what he was doing. No wonder Ammy watched like a hawk.

On a positive note, Oni Lee has been regaining his humanity and Self by being more attentive to details ever since he saw his sister's grave. He wouldn't have known what Lung's favorite brand of smokes was if he wasn't paying attention to his surroundings. I bet it started with small things: memorizing the smell of certain people and places, savoring the tastes of food, admiring the shrine's garden, etc. Then he started noticing smaller details like body language and the faces of unimportant people.

One thing I get from this chapter: Oni Lee is a very traditional man. The tea ceremony is his initiative not Lung. Since his sister was once a shrine miko, he must have lived in a very traditional household in Japan or he's just trying to get hold of his cultural identity through Taylor. Lung's daily conversation snippets with Lee are cute though, because it shows that Lung actually pays attention to his right-hand man all those years.

I was talking out of my ass. But now that I think about it, with the way Lung has been absorbing gang members with a care in the world and Oni Lee not much of a conversationalist, the ABB might be really divided beneath the surface. Fear as the sole means o acquiring power becomes ineffective over time. It makes the followers hesitant and more likely to hesitate, even for just an instant, when given an order. It also increases the chances of frightened shaking while holding a weapon. The ABB would have eventually fallen under its own weight without Bakuda shoving bombs in everyone's head and detonating those bombs on a whim. And if Bakuda managed to die than the ABB would lose the bulk of their members.
Oh, there was a fight. It just wasn't one he could turn his opponent into a bloody paste. (Well, he could try, but, LIGHTNING BOLT TO THE HEAD!!!)
'Twas a duel of patience and endurance!

I always knew Taylor could make herself look pretty if she tried. It's surprising what makeup can do to change ones appearance. It can make men convincingly look like females and even give off the illusion of cleavage. Lung probably didn't even notice. Fucking uneducated simpleton. :sour:

To be fair, the traditional kimono, unless the wearer is very busty, like, 'smuggling bowling balls huge', tends to make women look flat, even if they have a decent sized chest. This is, if I remember vaguely, actually by design.

I was giving examples of the mystical properties of ways makeup can be used to alter ones appearances. I'd probably be easy for someone skilled enough with makeup to make Taylor realize that she wouldn't like "a frog" if she actually made any real effort in changing her appearance.

True enough, and a kimono is a good way to, well, 'bulk up' the body, so to speak. It can be very concealing, in that regards. But not slimming. You probably want a yukata for that.

Nah, being a Miko is basically a part time job in Japan, unless you're a member of the household that inherreted the shrine/maintains it

Eh, not really. Consider what Lung did when he hit the states: picked fights in major cities until he found a city where they couldn't kick him out

So he's secure in Brockton, no one can dislodge him and no one will try

Then he got the gangs together, not the Japanese Gangs. Not the Chinese Gangs. All the damn asian gangs, even if they traditionally hated each other.

(In general I think, with the exception of the main generic ABB, the various factions of the ABB continue acting as they had been before, just under Lung's aegis, and a side of covering for each other. So the drug selling tagging little shits, The Ko-lin keep being tagging little shits and selling drugs. Meanwhile the Akaishi fiends, or whatever, continue, well doing what they did to Emma. (Since large scale the Emma thing is basically untenable.) In the meantime, the Ko-lin keep watch out for the Akaishi, and if some skinhead spits vafuely in a Ko-lin's direction they'll break his legs.)

Further, any Cape, who is thus a potential threat to him, that would not bend a knee got bent in half.

Anyways, result? Lung has his recliner, women, cigarettes, his beer, and no one is going to fuck with him. He has his comfort, his ease, and what else would he want? Keeping the gang running is just a means to keep his funding coming to afford his nice apartment wherever it is, his fridge stocked, etc. Which is one reason why he reacted violently to the theft in canon, that was his goddamn beer money.

The ABB isn't so much a gang so much as it's Lung's territory.

The best thing about this is that other people are within earshot.

This is why deities need mortal helpers. That, and pats.

Ammy procuring a lost national treasure and then getting her head stuck in the box is so perfectly her.

A dragon boldly declaring lessons not learned.

Dragons best not meddle in the affairs of Miko, for they are wearing metal and prone to lightning.

Or perhaps your power is desperately trying to tell you "TALK SHIT GET HIT" and learned a lesson you didn't.

Time to get stared down by a dog that got its head stuck in a box a while ago.

Her disappointment in you isn't going to burn out any time soon.

Don't look at it and it'll go away. Yeah, that'll work.

The offenses just keep piling up, don't they?

And here we have Miko actually taking territory from Lung. Good job.

You have the best, most truest one-liners:grin: Thank you for speaking my brain-thoughts, only better

As a note why the scroll would be so surprising:

The scroll is a national treasure of Japan from the fifteenth century, kept in the Kyushu National Museum.
In this story, it is late 2010. According to Interlude 24,
Kyushu, November 2nd, 1999. Leviathan.

It has been 11 years since Kyushu was sunk, which was only Leviathan's fifth attack. None of his other attacks had sunk the locations, so they likely would not have evacuated the island. It is unlikely they would have done more than move the art to higher ground, and the sinking would have removed all of that protection. No one had heard of the scroll being saved nor recovered since, which would have been a big deal and likely well publicized.

And now, it's showing up in pristine condition (after Sunny got to it) just in time for the tea ceremony with Lung, as if the sinking of Kyushu had never happened. Considering the scroll was not at the shrine before that, its appearance is almost a clearer sign of divine intervention than the thunderbolt.

It's beautiful isn't it?

Edit:
Like seriously, it's like the top 10 of the most elegant wallscrolls I've ever seen.

However, I suggest putting it in a spoiler or link to help out peeps with connection problems or on other devices.

anyone else think the PRT are completely gobsmacked because not only did Taylor meet with lung she got him to give her a block or 2 of his territory and in fact apparently he's punched her before and seems unwilling to do so again not to mention she doesn't think shes a cape which will be is a concern

The issue here is that their surveillance equipment were compromised due to Acts of doG. It's why Battery was doing a stake-out in a previous chapter and it's uncertain if Mr. Nemesis-is-doG has replaced them and if they too have been compromised (waiting until the next chapter for this to be resolved). If it was another stake-out, you then need to ask how much of the meeting did Ammy allow the one on duty to see if any at all, again, would most likely be explained in the following chapters.

If they were allowed to see what was going on, the real reaction we need to look at is Danny's, considering that his daughter, just from the looks of it, can make Lung stop and listen to her, because I'm pretty sure that they would not be able to get close enough to hear the conversation. Furthermore, the appearance of Sunny might actually give credence to the idea of an unknown Master, especially since Lung looked at Her, then looked up, looked at Her again, and then broke eye contact.

Lung broke eye contact.

And the last bit where Miko literally stepped out in front of Lung and the Wolf was literally right there next to her.

The PRT might just take Colin's caution of the wolf a little more seriously...IF Amaterasu allowed them to see what happened.
