Sorry, I meant he entered holy ground with the intent to harm to one of the people who worked there, a miko in this case. You really don't do that, especially in a spirit heavy religious place like a Shinto shrine. That's just asking for a divine being to smite your ass.
Even a small shrine by the roadside you shouldn't mess with. Especially the regularly used one. I have heard stories of people trying to desecrate a shrine by pissing on the offering and somehow got infection on their genitals.

Clearly, Lung got the better end of the deal.

I'm repeat. He just unlucky guy. Ton of people do the same (entered holy ground with the intent to do harm) with no aftermath.
Just google about Cortes. What he did with holy Aztec priests or about Crusaders or about holy priests/monks who fight with the same holy priests in Europe or Japan.
Chance that God himself will punish you for sacrilege with all his strength pretty low. It's some thing like 0.(0)1%

Few other things to keep in mind:

Taylor knows that Ammy is, in her own words, "something special." She fixed her flute right in front of her. She may not know, or care to know, what she is, but she definitely doesn't think she's just a dog.

Also, a cool bit that someone on SB noticed:

"You can't answer me, and that is why you have no claim here. This shrine does not belong to you, it belongs to the people of this city. And this city does not belong to you, because you do not belong to it. You take, but never give." The sunlight was strong now, glaring off her simple shirt and tresses, circling in her glasses to make them twin bright orbs that managed to reflect his mask. Lung stared back at himself.

Here, Taylor is shining with the reflected light of a brilliant direct sun. But...

UnwelcomeStorm said:
The moody clouds that had covered the city since morning had been swept aside-- but only in a single circle, perhaps only a few miles wide, directly above the ABB territory. The rest of the city was covered still, faint shadows of rain raising mist over the skyscrapers downtown. But above the shrine, the blue vault of the heavens stared down like the eye of an angry god. A single spark, high above, was all the warning Lung received.

Here? The sun isn't mentioned at all - it's not in that clear space in the clouds.

Gee. I wonder where the sun went. I wonder.

(and while I'm at it, where's Perry?)

I have absolutely no idea what you just said. Fix your English and try again.

He meant:
"Do you truly believe Taylor's 'dog' is all that special in a world where Myrrdin believes he can use magic, Glaistig Uaine calls herself the queen of fairies, and Contessa's power can make almost anything possible?"

Which, from the prespective of someone who doesn't know what Sunshine truly is, might be the case.
I mean, how often do you randomly meet a Case 53 without the Tattoo, in the form of a dog wolf, whose powers seem to be all about painting and fixing things(and mastering people), and who trained the first person they met into a Miko, before granting them a copy of their own power, all the while making strange things happen around them, like random lightning bolts from a clear sky?

I mean, I dunno. I would say that Myrddin, Faerie Queen, Contessa, and this random dog are extraordinary. At this point in the story I - meaning Taylor - don't really have a reference to say if any of them are more extraordinary than the others, except insofar as my random wolf seems to be much more effective at improving the world :p.

Welp. Discussions aside, Taylor's street cred with the ABB-Soldiery just went way up.

Also Yuuta will have to deal with Smugness Incarnate Grandma.

And every Thinker Shard in city just Bluescreened.

Kenta here though will have to do a full Dogeza to get back talking priveliges. He might also wish to contemplate his waterfall.

His shard works off of threats near him, i've seen it said all threats but also seen that it's only Parahuman threats.

If its all threats when he meets Amaterasu his shard will go into hyperdrive and try to make him twice or thrice as big as on Kyushu.

if its only Parahumans... then it wont react at all.

Lung got reeeeeeeeeekt

The fallout from this will be interesting. Hopefully Taylor getting her face messed up will draw Danny into her life a bit more (just according to keikaku).

As for "cultural appropriation," that's a bunch of bullshit. I wonder if anyone got offended by the implication of GRORIOUS NIPPON RIGHT ABOUT ALL THINGS, GAIJIN RELIGION IS SHIT. Or how so far the ABB and its territory seems to be exclusively Japanese with no reference to the vast array of Asian cultures it includes. Of course I'm a straight cis white male so my word is shit.

Although it is a legitimate question as to why Amaterasu chose Taylor of all people, rather than finding a japanese youth and help them rediscover there heritage. Could be she does, as theorized earlier, want to use Taylor's race to make her following more inclusive. Could be just because Taylor's the protagonist and it's a story with Okami, so there it is. Or maybe, all those years ago, Taylor was just the one who stumbled across a shrine (or what was left of one) to Amaterasu out innawoods and Ammy responded to her cries for help.

Which leads us to question if Ammy here actually is an exclusively "Japanese" spirit or if she's a more all-encompassing mother/solar/nature/etc deity who happens to be manifesting in her Japanese incarnation due to various factors, such as the high presence of Japanese refugees in Brockton Bay.

Or, y'know, this is just a crossover with a video game that uses Japanese mythology and we should stop overthinking it and just give Ammy belly rubs.

Well, that's one way to make Sunshine the least extraordinary being on the planet. It's a fact of life that a random wolf is more effective at making Earth Bet a decent place than any of its sapient inhabitants.

Amaterasu is as much of a threat as someone's angry mother. She might twist his ear/zap him with lightning, but she's not a threat.

The Sun is 1,300,000 times the size of the Earth, less then 2% of it goes to heating the Earth and the Sun is a minor incarnation of Amaterasu.

So yea what she did to Lung was barely making a point, and it's still gonna be enough to have every Parahuman on the eastern seaboard of Vinland freak out.

Actually, now that you've pointed that out, I cannot unread it. Speaking as a Chinese person, it is rather curious, since in canon Lung was the one to abolish the Japanese-only ABB and make it open to all Asians, though it was less a case of inclusivity than press-ganging every able-bodied person of Asian descent in his territory.

Anyway now I can't help but notice the complete dearth of any Asian names other than Japanese. Surely there are ABB kids in Winslow who aren't Japanese?

That is not how you say 1,300,000 times the size of the earth.

Anyway now I can't help but notice the complete dearth of any Asian names other than Japanese. Surely there are ABB kids in Winslow who aren't Japanese?
Either filthy westerner ignorance for Asian names on the part of authors, or Lung said you all have Japanese names because reasons. Maybe he makes people change their names periodically between the different countries just to fuck with people, or maybe most of the Asian population is Japanese since the CUI won't let people leave or something, and the Japanese that are in BB are there when they all fled Japan after Kyushu was slam dunked into the pacific by Levaithan.

If its all threats when he meets Amaterasu his shard will go into hyperdrive and try to make him twice or thrice as big as on Kyushu.
That would only be if she decided to fight him long enough, which she wouldn't - realistically he has zero chance against her. Besides I suspect she may be able to tamper with Shards and their influence on their hosts. Case in point, Oni Lee and the restoration or his memories. That lightning bolt may have more effect than simply knocking some sense into him.

Can he do it??? His power has a limit. On Kyushu he lost. The island was drowned.

Well on Kyushu he had ramp up time, and was apparently fighting Leviathan for hours.

That said his Shard decided that enough was enough and they'd been going for to long.
Against Amaterasu who can bring Sunrise to the night? The shard might well decide to go hyperboost, because the alternative is an end, 'Course that'll cause every PRT hero in the US to come running cause the Sun just rose at 2 in the morning.

That does not really matter
In our society, there is a huge taboo against harming religious figures
Even nonreligious people due to the influence of religion will hesitate from harming a priest
Harming or killing a religious figure is much worst than harming a regular person

Edit replaced person with figure sorry
