We've missed your updates @UnwelcomeStorm, It's good to have you back. I have to admit, one thing I found curious in my re-read of your story was the placing of the tokens in the ceremonial box marked with the Chinese Zodiac. Is there something big tied into that point, since alot of the times they show up it is at the end of the chapter acting as a cliffhanger. Also, wow, that was a fast ending of the E88 from the last time I saw them. I thought they were going the path of the Local 88, or am I getting you and Selector's version of the story mixed up?

Since you are asking about this I'm going to guess that you have not played the video game this is a crossover with. In the video game, you could collect beads. The point of them, was that they basically unlocked cheat codes or extras such as the ability to change what breed of dog amy was or invulnerability if you had all of them. Thus in the context of this story it is most likely simply making Sunny stronger.

Oh, I have the game, but due to school and work i never got far before i just forgot about it. Now i will have to play it through and look for what you mentioned! Thanks!

Thanks, this will really help me out! I wonder if @UnwelcomeStorm is using the quirks of the game to guide Sunny's in story abilities?
Not likely. The opposite really. The Tiger is Lightning, so she'd have not been able to zap Lung back then if she needed those beads for the Tiger. For a moment I thought it might be the opposite, but then I looked at Lee. The Rat is Power Slash, which she's never used near Lee. He was affected by the power of the Monkey. So, no.

It seems instead to be matching the archetype of the person giving the gift instead.

... Okay, I know what you meant here, but my brain simply won't let up...

Sunny: *does Good doG magic/thing*
Amy: ... Okay, what is it now?
Taylor: Uhh, you're now a Griffon Bruxellois.
Amy: A what?
Taylor: A Brussels Griffon.
Amy: I repeat, a what now?
Vicky: *shoves her phone screen forward with a pic*
Amy: *silent for several seconds* ... I hate you.

Sunny is collecting beads, not powers. She's already got all the everything, though especially towards the beginning not the energy to use it.

So, Lung is roughly 30ish, a tiger boy and the timeline is 2009ish. So Lungs element if he born a tiger would be either water or wood. Hmm. Cool.

Good Dog can do all the things. Brushstroke can do none of the things. The beads aren't a power-up thing. They're a measure of personal growth and faith.

My concern is that they're the count till Taylor can stand on her own again, without a literal god to lean on, because that would be when Amaterasu leaves again.
Or I could be completely wrong and talking out of my ass. Rather than ask, I'd much rather read on and find out.

Though I am still curious why she's favored so; I'm reasonably certain it's not just something random.

Check early chapters. She's the one who find her first, and also the one who find (and care) for her shrine first.

Edit: Considering her Friend Bracelet, now I just realize that Taylor is Shiranui, The Wolf. Not as source of Sunny as projection, but a person who represents Dog/ Wolf.

At least that's what I think, I might be wromg, though.

More importantly, the kami was demonstrably concerned with propriety: Lung highly doubted the wolf would interrupt him in the bath.
Is she, though? Is she really?
Taylor sniffled, and blinked a few times before asking, "Doggy?"

The white wolf sneezed at her. Taylor wiped specks of slobber off her face. "Yuck!"

The wolf gave a great doggy grin, and started licking Taylor's face, until the little girl laughed and tried to push the sloppy kisses away.
"Hehehe. Good to see you, Doggy. What are you doing out of the woods?"

The wolf thumped her tail on the ground, then padded over to the weed-strewn play area. Taylor watched the wolf climb up the wide-set stairs up into the plastic playground, then crawl on her belly into the slide tunnel. The tunnel produced a great echoing Wooooo~! as the wolf slid down it and shot out the opening at the bottom. Taylor goggled, and the wolf happily ran up the stairs to do it again. Another Woooo~!, and a flying canine.
"...I don't think sushi is a breakfast food, Sunny."

Whine...

"And I don't have the stuff for this anyway. I've never made sushi."

Whiiiiine...

"AND you ruined my clothes. Why do you get a reward? ...no, don't give me that look— ugh, fine," Taylor sighed.
Sunshine had made her way back to the shrine, and was now going over the day's offerings. Specifically, she was fumbling with the cap on the sake, and as soon as she got it off the wolf grabbed the neck of the small jug in her teeth and tilted her head skyward. Taylor could hear the guzzling sounds from here.

"Really, Sunny? It's not even five o'clock." The wolf just wuffed'at her, then padded over to the rope-circled tree and flopped down onto the grass.
some comfy-looking mats that Sunny licked, thereby claiming as her own. Lots of birdseed, but no feeders— Taylor gave the canine a Look, but the resulting Puppy Stare was far too powerful. Another red skirt, also claimed by Rite of Lick,
"Hey, Sunn— augh, you're all muddy again! Seriously, do I have to give you a bath?" The canine stumbled, missing a step at the sound of the dreaded B-word. She whined.
The vehicle surged forwards and Good Dog lurched in surprise, then turned around and sat on the glass pane separating it from Assault, replacing the cape's view of the road with fluffbutt.
Good Dog's stagger vanished long enough for the animal to jump into the seat of her bike, then slap its paws down on the handlebars, gunning gas into the engine and starting the bike moving. Miss Militia recovered, but it was too late. Good Dog accelerated the motorcycle and tossed its head back, letting out a happy Wooooo~! as it stole government property.

"Oh my god. Oh my god, Console, Good Dog is drunk driving my bike!"
The bike drove off the edge of the elevated asphalt before it could crash back to earth. With a mighty woooooo~! Good Dog sailed over three parked cars and a stray shopping cart before gravity re-assumed control, and the wolf abandoned ship before the motorcycle crashed into the ground and began a long, ear-screeching skid.
His view vanished with a splash of yellow and a rank odor. Victor's head jerked away from the gun's scope to find that the dog had somehow gotten on top of the building with him, and was now standing on the concrete lip he was using as cover, one leg hiked up as it defiled his rifle.

Slowly, the dog turned its head to face him, never stopping its stream. The animal had the most disapproving expression he'd ever seen.
"Sunny, did you wipe out the Empire, dig a hundred miles or so of tunnels, and then manipulate Lung into buying up the street… SO YOU COULD OWN A HOT SPRING?!"

Sunny, lounging on her back in the birdbath, which was filling with steaming water from the mineral rain, tossed her head. Mmmmmbark.
The wolf waited patiently for Taylor to finish her task and put the flute away. When she had, Taylor gestured, and Sunny bounded back up the steps and just draped herself over the girl like a giant rug.
The next day, Taylor arrived after school to find the Shrine—and only the shrine, not any of the properties nearby—was buried in almost two feet of snow. She could just barely make out Sunny's black nose and lolling tongue poking out of a snowdrift, next to a hunk of carved ice next to the office that looked suspiciously like a wine rack.

Taylor cursed under her breath, and started wading towards the water fountain.
"Sunny," Taylor murmured as she and the wolf watched the sisters start down the sidewalk away from the Shrine, "I don't suppose you could explain why those two had fox tails, could you?"

Beside her, Sunny adopted a guileless expression. Taylor snapped at her, "Oh, don't act innocent, I know where you were looking!"
With perhaps the most egregious of all right in front of Lung:
It was even at a damn strip club, with a paw full of dollars and two women cooing and fussing over its soft fur.

ragging the girl out of her temporary office home and into the shrine proper to take care of Lung's offering.

It was a familiar ritual by now, and Taylor couldn't keep an amused smile off her face as Sunny excitedly tapped her paws against the character of the Tiger.
Hmmm... So the literal Dragon's gift goes in the Tiger section of the box?

Anyone else find this interesting, given the relationship of the two in Chinese mythology?
I feel like I should confirm that the zodiac signs aren't based on actual birth dates, just character similarities.
But... literal dragon!
What is the average air speed of an unladen swallow?
African, European, or Sparrow Clan?

Fun note, the SB thread for this made it exactly 5 hours and 16 minutes between the new chapter being posted, and the mods locking the thread for derails, lol.

Not really, it's actually pretty apt.

Tiger is a King of Beast. Tgey needs to always reassert their superiorities, because they had to proves to others it's still the strongest, because otherwise their subjects won't listen to it. Compared with how Lung operates: Always actively present in his own establishment, always the first to go in conflict against PRT or other Gangs.

Dragon, Asian Dragon, in the other hand, don't (seemingly) do much, but their presence is there. You know where the dragon lives. You know they (seemingly) didn't really care about whatever beneath their gaze. You know they had so much strength as wisdom that they can dispense at their whim. Most of all, you revere The Dragon.

Note that Armsmaster, before his canon slippery slope, always regarded as best PRT Heroes. No one in PRT had anything bad to say about him. His opinion is always regarded by his peers and handler. Director Piggot is listening to him. All he did just basically doing his job at his best and nothing more. And he strive to improve.

Real dragon didn't need to roar. They just are.

So i went and bought Okami.
I hope you people are happy with what you have done. :V

Loving what is being done with Oni Lee and lung.
Not redemption, just, change, Oni Lee is finding himself, and while he remains an unrepentant murderer, he is one with a code of sorts, which can pass as honor if you squint a bit.
And Lung, remains Lung, but forced to live with a being far beyond him, all the while having to feel grateful to that being, and oh how it stings.

Not happy with Emma situation, i had hoped what happened to her would be butterflied away, but it did not happen, then i hoped there would be reconciliation, eventually, but that did not happen either, then i hoped Taylor would atleast learn why, and it seems that was missed as well (unless i missed it).
It's not a bad story, i just had hoped it went differently.

One thing i hope for, is to have someone complain to Taylor about gods being vague, and then TAylor going "your annoyed?" followed by an angry, shouty, rant at the heavens over gods being vague "send an email, you can use a computer, i've seen you do it", except longer, angrier and better written.

edit-
Okami
Oh doG they have managed to make the tutorial fairy from Zelda even worse. :jackiechan:
I don't know if i should be horrified or impressed. :V
40 minutes in gameplay fun, art style great, story decent so far.
I hate how slow the text speed is, either actually spring for voice actors or let me move as fast as i can read.
Looks fun, will play more later.
