This is a bit old now because I'm still catching up, but...
Well, it's always nice to come back and see a new person having joined us. Welcome aboard; don't expect the safety equipment to work.

Alright, so [] Plan NMS and [] Plan Kill Her Till She Dies are neck and neck. Calling for more voters! @Nuew @Slayer 10321 @CMAzrael
... And then it's less nice to come back and see that we're tied. Still nice, because it means that people are voting, but not nice because now we need more votes.

I feel like I should make that the sub-header for this quest- "We Need More Votes"

Okay, so votes are closed and Kill her until she dies is the winning plan. I'll get started witing now, but depending on other factors I may not have a finished post ready until tomorrow (my time). While you're all waiting, I have a thread question to pose to anyone who wants to contribute- What sort of music do you think Oriko would have as her phone's ringtone for someone who is important but who isn't Kirika?

This is actually important, by the way. I'm not just asking this to mess with you/keep the quest alive while you wait.

Well, I live in a cave, so I don't really know music unless it's from a video game

I would answer this but I almost nothing about the kind of ringtones that would be used in Japan. An honest attempt that kinda makes sense would be the Madoka Magica OP "Connect", ringtone version.

WanderingTwix was able to listen to this in a cave! With a box of scraps!

It was an honest attempt, but Madoka already has Connect as her "Homura" ringtone. What's your thinking for how it would "kinda make sense"?

Mostly in the meta-series connection that Madoka Magica likes to riddle throughout the series, though forgot that Madoka had that.

How about a ringtone version of Rebellion's OP?

Sorry if that's not the kind of thing you're looking for, as I'm more of a computer person than a phone person and like WanderingTwix I mostly know game/other media songs. It makes it a bit more difficult considering this is meant to fit Japan as well.

Maybe some classical music like Mozart or Beethoven?

I'm a classical guy myself, and that's what I would personally peg Oriko as having (same with Sayaka, Hitomi, and Mami; Kyouko is a fan of American rock- She can't understand a word of it, she just likes the rhythm, tempo, and the way it sounds; Homura is a Kalafina girl through and through; and Kirika is all over the place with her music tastes- Pop, enka, gothic, metal, Jrap, you name it) but for some reason I'm feeling like I'd want to see some more variance from the "classical" girls at the same time.

Funny enough, I could almost see Colorful for her over Connect, except it's currently 2011 and Colorful hasn't been written yet. So sad.

... There's always Space Unicorn? No wait, that was 2012.

Uh, I'm not that much of classical guy myself. Couldn't tell you the difference between a Beethoven, a Wolfgang, and a Bach.

What motifs does Oriko have in her original works? Pick something that reminds you of them.

If it's Lancer, though, definitely Ride of the Valkyries.

If you mean musically, then none, because until MagiReco gave her a voice in 2017 she had only ever appeared in the spinoff manga series before that point.

Day 27 Chapter 8
[X] Plan Kill Her Till She Dies

Fifteen minutes past the hour later...

"I'm sorry that took so long," Mikuni Oriko says, taking off her shoes as she enters the Tomoe apartment. Despite today being a school day, you know that she is opting to stay at home until the issue of the enemy puella magi trio has been sorted out, and so she arrives wearing not the scarlet uniform of the Shirome junior high, but a white turtleneck and a matching pink jacket and skirt. "There was an unexpected delay with my train, so I ended up having to wait longer than I had anticipated."

"Not to worry, Mikuni-san," Tomoe-san says, pouring tea for one more, before moving over closer to you to allow for Mikuni Oriko to sit beside Kure Kirika. "Delays happen; what matters is that you're here now." Kyouko, who had been sent to get the door, returns to her own seat, grabbing for the nearest pastry and stuffing it in her mouth once she is seated.

"Hm." As soon as Mikuni Oriko has taken her seat, Kure Kirika is cuddled up against her, and she melts at the long-awaited touch of her lover like chocolate in her mouth. Funny, that, considering how you would describe the colour of her hair. "Well, all the same I hope that my delay was no cause to hold the rest of you up."

"Not at all." Now, with the five of you present, you look to each of your allies as you ask "So, we're all fine with dealing with Assassin tonight, is that correct?"

"Fuck yeah I am." Kyouko's approval is a non-issue. You knew she would be all-in for any plan that dealt with Assassin as soon as possible.

"We were close last time." Tomoe-san and Mikuni Oriko are both in agreement on this. "I believe that if we structure our approach to Assassin correctly using what we learned from our last encounter along, that with our enhanced teamwork we should stand a much better chance of success."

Only Kure Kirika has anything to say to the contrary, surprisingly you with her ability to disagree with Mikkuni Oriko. "I mean, if it's the majority vote I guess I can go along with it, but I'm worried about what's gonna happen if this just ends up being a repeat of last time- I mean, we got thi~is close-" She leans in, pressing her fingers close together for emphasis "-to kicking her ass last time, then she just decided to kick us out, turn tail, and run, and all we had to show for it was the loss of a few Grief Seeds and we're no closer to killing her than we were before. So what happens if tonight's just a repeat of last time?"

"That shouldn't happen," you say, remembering the theory McRemitz-san had kicked around during her sit-down with you, Kyouko, and Kure Kirika "if we follow McRemitz-san's advice and use Lancer's runes to seal Assassin off from her ability to manipulate the labyrinth's geography."

Mikuni Oriko nods, saying "I can make sure that she-" but her words are interrupted by the sound of Vivaldi's Storm. "Please excuse me," she says, taking her phone out of her pocket. "This must be important." Excusing herself from the table, Mikuni Oriko walks off into the kitchen, before responding to the call with "Good afternoon, uncle."
"Good afternoon, Oriko. I hope I am not interrupting anything."

"Not particularly, no. I'm studying with some friends of mine, at the moment. What did you need from me?"
"I hope they are not the same friends that talked you into skipping school today."

Silence fall from Mikuni Oriko in the kitchen, but at the table Kure Kirika sneers, saying just loudly enough for all of you to hear her "I really hate that guy."
"Do not act so surprised. Did you honestly think that the school would not inform me that you would take an unexcused absense? I am the only paying for you to continue attending, after all. ... It was that street rat Kure, was it not? That repulsive girl you insist on pretending to be in love with; she was the one who talked you into this, I presume?"
"Don't blame Kirika, uncle, please. It was my decision and mine alone. Some of my classmates- A friend of theirs was murdered, several weeks ago, and now they're accusing me of it." Leaving out, of course, the fact that she is responsible for their friend's murder. "I- I was afraid that if I went, they might try to harm me."
"While I can understand your rationale, your behaviour is still unacceptable. I thought that my brother would have raised you to be better than this, but it appears I was mistaken in allowing you to maintain your independence after his death."
Nobody says anything. Nobody wants to admit to listening in on Mikuni Oriko's conversation, but you can tell that everyone at the table is doing so.
"Oriko, if I seem harsh on you, it is only because I love you, and want to see you at your best. When you become an adult, it will be your responsibility to redeem the name of Mikuni to the people of Japan. That is your task, and you will not achieve it by slacking off and skipping school, am I understood?"
"... Yes, uncle, I understand."
"Good. Then make sure you have sorted out whatever you need to with these foolish classmates of yours so that you may return to school tomorrow. And start giving some serious thought to potential suitors, because when you come of age I will no longer tolerate you pretending to be a deviant. Goodbye, Oriko."
A shuffling sound accompanies Mikuni Oriko as she places her phone back into her pocket, returning to the table with a face noticeably more dour than the one she had left the table with. Seeing her in such straits, Kure Kirika immediately cuddles up to her upon her return, but even close contact with her lover does little to soothe her. "I apologize for the interruption." Hanging her head and sighing, with the distinct scent of shame on her voice she asks "If at all possible, may we instead find a way to deal with Koito-san and her allies?"

Kyouko shoots Mikuni Oriko a disapproving glare. "Fuck that. I wanted Assassin dead last week, and now ya want me ta wait even longer than we've already been waiting? What the fuck did yer uncle say to ya to make ya suddenly change yer tone, just like that?"

As expected, Kure Kirika takes offense to Kyouko's criticisms. "You have no idea who her uncle is, do you? He's a representative for Kanagawa prefecture in the Diet, and he's easily the scariest person you'll ever meet if you ever have the misfortune of meeting him. It wasn't so bad when Oriko's dad was still alive, but now..." Her arms wrap tightly around Mikuni Oriko's waist, and her hands find their place in her lover's own. "Guy's a prick and I can't stand him, but if whatever he said to Oriko was enough to make her change her mind, then I'm with her one-hundred per cent."

"I'm afraid I must agree with Sakura-san," Tomoe-san chimes in, although you can tell she is clearly reluctant to instigate further conflict among the group. "It was my fault that we delayed in dealing with Assassin, and every day that we delay further is only going to put more lives at risk."

Kure Kirika huffs, stating "If we let her roam around for one more day, maybe we'll get lucky and Oriko's uncle can be one of them."

"Don't be like that, dearest. Uncle can be harsh at times, but I know that deep in his heart he only wants what's best for me." Mikuni Oriko tries to smile, but you've made enough fake smiles in your life to know how to spot one. "... Even if he doesn't know what's best for me as well as he thinks he does."

What had once been a unanimous decision is now a split, tied at two-two. It falls on you now to decide how the tie is broken, and how the team will approach the rest of the night.

Do you

[ ] Change course; deal with the new girls
[ ] Can you do both in one night?

-[X] but inform and/or show the group of the blackmail you've got on one of their members and tell them that they should be able to deal with them tomorrow
--[X] Ask for ideas on how to properly use this blackmail against this Puella Magi. Suggest that they perhaps try and convince her, the more reasonably minded of the group, that Kyuubey was largely responsible for Oriko's actions, even if it wasn't, so that she may ward off future attempts on Oriko's life.
---[X] Ask Oriko how these girls are even aware that she's the one who killed Komaki in the first place.

And do we have a plan to stand up to her uncle when he decides to sell the mansion, force her to break up with Kirika, and takes her to live with him in Tokyo when she decides to skip school tomorrow because those girls are still there and haven't been dealt with yet?

He can't sell the mansion if there is no mansion. :thonk:

But really, the only solution I can think of is for the Uncle to have some sort of... accident.

We have Oriko/Caster, after (hopefully) dealing with Assassin, use their precog to make sure nothing will happen if she goes to school tomorrow. If something does happen, once we're informed of what'll probably happen we can make an informed choice about it then.

Push comes to shove Archer teaches Homura Hypnosis (even if he can't do it great himself), as that's some pretty basic Magecraft that he would've had to at least learn the theory of from either Rin or some Clocktower teacher. Unless her uncle is secretly a Magus, has his Magic Circuits active, or is a Psychic Hypnosis should work on him, even from a beginner. Or Lancer could perform Hypnosis through Runes.

Mikuni Magi family omake when? /s

I guess Kyouko could also provide some security for Oriko. If necessary, we could also skip school tomorrow, though I'm not sure if that's necessary yet.

We are not going to accident a member of the Diet. I mean, we can, but the trouble that would bring down on us would be a lot worse than what he can do by himself.

Alright, just making sure we have a plan in place. If we ignore Assassin, people will die; and if we ignore these girls, Oriko is in huge shit with the person most able to screw her over. And we realistically need to have plans in place to deal with both.

You say /s, but I actually do have a Mikuni family omake planned, however it's being saved for a certain occasion because of how spoilerific it is.

EDIT: Due to an initial misunderstanding of Japanese politics, I originally labeled Oriko's uncle as the representative for Kanagawa, when he should only be a representative of Kanagawa. The most recent post and the Caren omake that mention him have both been edited to reflect this correction.

Are you sure about that? Is Oriko's uncle's given name Sheev, perhaps?
