Day 27 Chapter 11
[X] Have Kure Kirika
-[X] keep Berserker in the fight; he can still contribute to the labyrinth's destruction
[X] Send Rider in to aid in the destruction of the labyrinth
[X] Any other orders you see the need to give?
-[X] to Archer
--[X] to focus all of his attention at catching sight of Assassin
-[X] to Tomoe-san
--[X] to have Caster bring out something that will clear out (or suck in?) the fog, if possible

Despite having several knives jammed inside of her servant's throat, Kure Kirika is looking only somewhat pallid, rather than the full-on coughing-up-blood wreck she had been the last time she sent Berserker into combat against Assassin. Implanting her with Avalon must be helping her more than you realized it would. "Can Berserker still fight?" you ask her.

"... Yeah," Kure Kirika says, staring out into the expanse of night before all of you. "I think so. He's tough enough that a few tiny knives to the throat shouldn't be enough to take him out of the fight."

"Good. Then make sure that's where he stays." You turn next to Kyouko, and say "You too. Have Rider join in the attack as well. We need as many hands as possible working to destroy Assassin's labyrinth if we want to draw her out like last time."

Kyouko calls her servant over to her side, but hesitates to send him into the mist-soaked entrance to Assassin's domain. "And, what happens if that bitch decides ta sneak out an' get the drop on us?" she asks, gesturing to the labyrinth's entrance with a jab of her thumb. "Don't we need ta have a guy with us in case she tries ta pull sumthin' fucky?"

"If we stick to the plan, and freeze time as soon as we catch sight of her, than the lack of a male combatant at our side to offset her anti-female Noble Phantasm shouldn't be a concern to us." At least, that's what you hope. Archer seems convinced, and his logic is sound enough, but Assassin has yet to actually demonstrate any such anti-female Noble Phantasm. Only because you haven't given her the chance to.

"'Aight, just checking." Kyouko turns to Rider, nodding her head as she says "Well, you heard the boss. Up an' attem, Killer" to her servant. Rider's response is an immediate tooth-flashing grin; he's ready for a fight.

"Have Rider and Berserker spread out in opposite directions as they assist Archer and Caster. We need eyes on as many corners of Assassin's labyrinth as possible. We can't allow her to get away." Once Kyouko and Kure Kirika nod, showing that they've understood your instructions, you turn to Tomoe-san. "If Caster is able to, see if you can have him employ something that can dissipate the layer of fog. Anything we can do to enhance our visibility will go a long way towards catching Assassin."

"Right."

While Tomoe-san communicates your orders to her servant, you turn your attention elsewhere. "Archer, Tomoe-san is going to have Caster find something in his arsenal to clear up the fog. Once he's done that, I need you to focus all your effort on keeping a lookout for Assassin."

"Yeah, master, about that..."

"I'm sorry, Akemi-san, but it's no use." Tomoe-san's statement puts an immediate halt to your plan. "Caster reports that the fog is a permanent fixture of the labyrinth. There's nothing he can do to remove it that he isn't already doing."

"It was a good idea, really. But the fact of the matter is, this fog is... How do I say this? It's less of a weather phenomenon, and more like it's been painted into the very fabric of the labyrinth. Maybe a suitably big enough explosion to wipe out a chunk of fog in a designated area; I was hesitant to try that out earlier when stealth was the name of the game, but now that we're actively trying to blow the place up from the inside it might be time to revisit the idea."

"Do whatever you have to if you think it will increase your chances of either spotting or drawing out Assassin. Caster too, if he can create a large enough explosion without it draining Tomoe-san too badly."

So, with no better options available to you or your team, you choose to wait; to wait and see what Assassin will do, what tricks she has up her sleeve to escape detection when her labyrinth lies in ruins and all eyes are bent on seeking her out. Through Archer's eyes you can see nothing, able to do no more than watch as he deploys swords which break the earth and set the deep purple mist alight in red and orange. His constant onslaught is a drain on you, after a time, but you still have enough colour left in your Soul Gem to hold out on using a Grief Seed.

You'll keep your hand wrapped around a Grief Seed anyway; just in case you should need one.

Through Archer's eyes you can see that the ruination of Assassin's labyrinth is complete, the false London completely engulfed in flames. Kure Kirika hums to herself as her head bops back and forth in time with her song, a rendition of what you presume to be My fair Lady. Fitting, considering Berserker's choice of landmark to demolish. Then, something happens which you did not expect. The space around the labyrinth expands, before rapidly shrinking back to its normal size, accompanied by a hideous sound that you could best describe as 'the air burped', if such a description were possible. At first, you aren't sure what it was you saw or what had happened in that moment. Then- "So, uh," Kyouko says, causing four heads to turn towards the place where her hand is gesturing. "I'm pretty sure that wasn't supposed ta happen."

A second entrance to the labyrinth has been torn open, likely caused at some point in the destruction by the constant beating of high-pressure waves from Archer's and Caster's explosive attacks; and from that second entrance, a thick cloud of black smoke and purple mist leaks out. Already, enough has leaked out that a thick blanket now hangs over the streets surrounding the labyrinth. But still Assassin is nowhere in sight. "Look alive everyone," you say, placing a hand to your shield, readying yourself to activate timestop the moment Assassin shows herself. "I think things are just getting started."

And then, before you are able to do anything to stop it, the blanket has enveloped you. That's when you feel an unfamiliar hand grasping at your shield.

Yep, this is gonna be difficult (x.x). Elaborated on NMS' plan.

EDIT: @SVS done

Is there a way you can clean up the sentence structure of this last point? Looking at it, it feels a little rough, like there's a more elegant way to write it that makes it easier to read.

EDIT: I'm thinking we could use more votes.

Rewrote the last point.
EDIT: I didn't realize that it had already been rewritten... Oops.

Oh, man, three kinda-similar votes that are just different enough to put us at 1-1-1. Going to need some consensus from you chaps.

Affirmative, oh wise quest-master.

@NMS Could you explain why they should call out some (unspecified) Servants when Homura could time-stop two tanks to limit the movements of Assassin, assuming she's in the smog? Also I'm sure that you already intended for Homura and co to be far enough away for the smog not to pose a problem to them, as I specified in my elaborated vote, but I added it for brevity's sake. Considering how fast the smog was moving, I'd assume we'd want to "teleport" the Servants in question to it as soon as possible, lest it get away or do other shenanigans.

@Nuew You pretty much got my vote, aside from Homura choosing where to deposit the Servants as opposed to letting the Servant who has fought in wars and countless battles against superpowered entities decide it. Any particular reason for that? I suppose they could also ask Lancelot now that he's sealed his Mad Enhancement, but I'm not sure if he can speak yet; his throat will probably need to be healed by Lancer or someone else at some point.

@WanderingTwix @Signupname if you vote now you can get your very own (dead) Kyuubey body out of Homura's shield free of charge! 👍

I intended by vote to more be a springboard other's could build off of.

The instant you feel an unfamiliar hand reaching to grab your shield, time is frozen. "Akemi-san?" You hear the voice of Tomoe-san beside you, but you cannot see her even though she stood less than a meter away from you. "What's going on?"

"We're moving out," you say, to her and to your other allies, though through the thick blanket of smog you are unable to see them; nor are you able to see Assassin, whom you had been positive was the owner of the hand reaching for your shield. "We've got to get out of this smog and take up a position where our visibility isn't impaired."

"She's here, ain't she?" You hear Kyouko asks, as the sound of her spear shifting in her tightening grip reaches your ears. "That little bitch is somewhere in this cloud, I know it."

"Don't get careless." There is little doubt in your mind that Kyouko will be careless no matter what you say. "There's more at work to this smog cover than we can see. I felt Assassin grabbing for my shield just before I stopped time, but I can't see her at all even though I could have sworn she was right beside me."

"So, is she there or not?"

You try a second time to peer into the dark cloud of noxious gasses, but still you are completely incapable of seeing anything. "If she is, I cannot see her, or anything else for that matter. If she is here, it would be stupid of us to try launching an attack when we can't even see our hands in front of our faces."

"Then, what's the plan now?" Not Kyouko this time; that was Kure Kirika's voice. "I mean, we can't just sit here all night and do nothing."

"First, we need to get out of this smog and into an area with better visibility." That's the part that everyone can agree on. What you're thinking of next, however, is less so. "After that, I want us to head into the labyrinth and recover Rider and Berserker. Hopefully their eyesight will fare better than ours in regards to locating Assassin." For a second, you are tempted to ask Mikuni Oriko if she can see whether your plan will succeed or not, before stopping yourself. If it involves Assassin, all she's likely to see is static.

"Wait a second- I get that we need to get out of here and get our visibility back, but after that you want us to go back in? Are you crazy?"

You wish you were. Maybe you are. "We have no idea what's out there in this fog, so having all four of our male servants inside the labyrinth is pointless when we don't even have proof that she's still there. And if she is out here, stalking among us right now, then we'd be foolish to let time resume when she could potentially be at our throats right now. So, our only option, once we've gotten our sight back and re-oriented, is to go into the labyrinth ourselves and retrieve our chosen servants."

You and your team were facing towards the labyrinth when the second opening appeared, so the logical direction to head in order to get out of the blanket would be to turn around. "Come on," you say, turning around, and desperately hoping that your allies will do the same. "Our best bet is to turn around, and keep going until we reach civilisation." For however long that takes.

You walk, one foot in front of the other. "Archer, I think we made a mistake in bombarding the labyrinth," you try to say to your servant, only to be reminded by the static that returns to you that your servant was not among those Tomoe-san tied to you. Archer is currently outside of the frozen time. One foot in front of the other, until the smog thins and you have returned to civilisation. You look to all sides of you, but you can see none of your teammates, even though they had been right beside you only moments ago. Or so you thought.

"Tomoe-san-"
"Kyouko-"
"Mikuni Oriko-"
"Kure Kirika-'"
"Where did you all go?"
Unsure of how far from you your allies have wandered, you contact each of them through your telepathic connection. Hopefully the drop of Berserker's rank in Mad Enhancement will have ceased its interference with Kure Kirika's use of telepathy. "If you're still with me, give me a status update immediately."

"I'm here, Akemi-san,"
Tomoe-san is the first to respond. "Though, I'm not sure where 'here' is. I still can't see much of anything, and I don't know at which point I must have veered off-course."

"I'm still here."
Good; there's Kyouko. "Decided against making my way out, actually. Thought I'd try my luck stabbing in every direction I can; ya said she was right next to ya, so I'm hoping I get that bitch even if I can't see her."

"Kirika, Lancer, and I were able to make it out,"
says Mikuni Oriko, updating you on the status of not only herself, but also of the one you can't communicate with and the one you aren't sure you can communicate with. "However, it appears that we've gone in the wrong direction as you, because I can't see you anywhere. Where are you?"

You look around at your surroundings, scanning the unfamiliar territory for an identifiable landmark. "I can see the train station immediately to my left. You?"

"Okay, I think I know where you are, then."

"Can you see the entrance to the labyrinth from where you are?"
you ask, unable to see the 'true' entrance for yourself, obscured as it is by the thick smog from the 'false' entrance.

"No, I'm afraid not. Can you?"

"Negative."

Oooookay then, got some questions as I'm extremely confused. First, weren't all of them connected by Mami's ribbons to Homura so that they could continue to move in stopped time? And second, for Puella Magi telepathy to work, don't they need to ping off of a Kyuubey body, all of whom are assumed to be stopped in time?

Looking at the fight in Rebellion, Homura and Mami are several long city block apart from one another for much of the fight, if the background scenery is any indication. Even if the smog only covers a short distance, it's entirely possible that they could have gotten separated and not pulled towards one another, especially if the distance between them is less than whatever the theoretical maximum distance that Mami's ribbons can stretch.

Kyubey, I'm pretty sure you've got me on, but then otherwise this entire post turns into all of nothing. I mean, I can make it all of nothing, if you'd rather wait another day and hope I can come up with something better.

Gotcha. Without anything in the post suggesting it, it came off as the ribbons simply not existing, especially when backtracking via the ribbons is an easy way to reform the group. I'll edit in my vote a bit later.

EDIT: It's implied that Homura can see the general area of where the Labyrinth lies. Is Homura nearby it still, or am I incorrect? Also Oriko never did respond to Homura about where she was, how rude. :/

For the vast majority of the fight Mami's ribbon is completely invisible, only appearing after Homura unfreezes time for the first time, and it has no impact on her movement until after becoming so. I wasn't sure that using the ribbon to backtrack would be a viable solution given the circumstance, especially if in order to see or interact with it we'd first need to unfreeze time.

Homura and Oriko are both nearby-ish; the smog cover is only a few blocks (though spreading at a not-insignificant rate), and were it not present they'd have a clear view of the labyrinth's opening.

[jk] Okay move to find th-
-[jk] Whoops, looks like Assassin found you instead.

Okay, so Homura came out one side, Oriko, Kirika and Lancer, came out the opposite side. Mami is lost while Kyoko is doing her best blender impersonation.

[x] Ask Mami is she can use her threads connecting everyone to orient herself and guide her and Kyoko out of there.

That's all I got. *shrug*

[X] First inform everyone that it may be possible that while Assassin is in this smog she could be incorporeal, at least when striking against weaker opponents such as Puella Magi in comparison to a Servant; this would make Kyoko's efforts relatively useless and suicidal
[X] Try to have the team regroup
-[X] Have Mami stiffen - and prevent from getting longer- the ribbons connecting her to one of Oriko's group to help guide her out. Mami can then reel in any stragglers at a safe pace to fully regroup.
[X] You'll push ahead with the plan anyway
-[X] How do you proceed when you can't see where the entrance to the labyrinth is?
--[X] Have Mami use her Berkano-enhanced ribbons to trace along the general area of Assassin's Labyrinth in search of one of the breaches; if necessary a Puella Magi or Lancer could simply jump high enough to get an aerial view and make their way to the location where they first entered the Labyrinth; also if necessary Lancer could locate her own Runes which are keeping the Labyrinth in place, be it through intuition or other Runes
---[X] If all is successful, before Rider and Berserker begin to fight off Assassin have Kyoko look through Rider's eyes and have her shake your shoulder if she spots a corporeal Assassin so you can timestop and take her out with the combined might of the group; continue to look through Archer's eyes just in case

Welp, let's see if this works. With everything going on, it seems like Assassin knows of their plan somehow, what with minimizing any and all sight completely and utterly and targeting Homura's shield.

Also, SVS, here's an idea for the whole telepathy problem. Maybe the Wunjo Rune Mami's using allows limited range telepathy between those she affects while active? It wouldn't be out of Wunjo's capabilities after all, considering what it represents.

I'm curious as to what happened. We ended off August and went into September with a really good vote tempo, but now we're back to early August levels of "we need votes". What gives? Where'd everybody go?

I mean, I guess, but then how does that explain the good pacing we had from January-June? That's still school, and yet we were moving along at a pretty good pace during that period, and in fact I thought July and the pre-school August were slower than late August and early this month, and for a lot of places that's school as well.

Because my sleep schedule is wack. Among other things. For this one specifically, though, I thought I had already voted.

It's just weird, I tell you, how our pace can wax and wane for no real discernible reason. I wish I knew why.

What does your sleep schedule look like? Because I once worked night shifts so I ended up sleeping from 2-11... That job really messed me up, because even now five years later I'm still largely sleeping 2-11 unless I'm given a reason to get up earlier.
