So, just popping in to show off a snippet from F/GO that I came across that encompasses this quest perfectly, and actively confirms some things that we were simply making an assumption on before (the fact that EMIYA remembers past Grail Wars). Thought it was neat.
Well, I chose to have Archer remember previous Wars, even if he canonically wouldn't have, because I didn't want to just rehash the same character developments we had already seen; same reason I chose to have all the servants who had previously been in one to remember their Wars, because I didn't want to rehash their previous character developments.

FGO doing it is entirely its own thing, and I would have made the same decision even if Saber Wars wasn't a thing; heck, I didn't even know what a Saber Wars is.

Well yeah, I didn't expect Saber Wars to have impacted your decision-making when it came to Archer's memories at all, nor did I expect you to be aware of it. I was just pointing out how regardless of your intentions when you made that decision, it's actually a thing; kinda like how Simpsons predicts a whole bunch of stuff before they happen by happenstance. It's just a fun little realization, that's all. :p

All I know about Saber Wars is that they involve a Saber Face calling herself Mysterious Heroine X whose goal is to hunt down all the other Saber Faces so she can be the one true Saber Face.

I wish I was joking, but I'm not.

Prove that Matt Groening isn't a space man from the future attempting to warn us of what's to come through.

That sounds so stupid. Dear lord, I know I've heard people complain about the stupid shit FGO has done, but that's so stupid it makes Shirou look like a paragon of intelligence. How much crack were the writers smoking when they came up with that?

I mean, it was written by Kinoko Nasu, so... 😅

Also MHX isn't hunting down all Saberfaces, just Sabers in general because she's self-conscious that she's an Assassin Servant and wants to prove her supremacy over Sabers to prove she is a "Saber".

That sounds even stupider than usual. But since it was Nasu and not someone else, then I have to ask by how much did he up his daily dose of shrooms when he was writing that drivel?

Day 38 Chapter 5
[X] Plan Icy AzoLto

"It is incredible," Assassin says, though she isn't saying that in response to the cheeseburger you've brought her from the cafeteria. "For all the centuries which have passed between my lifetime and yours, your sciences and and mathematics are still, at their core, the same disciplines as they were when I studied them." You catch a brief smile on her face as she eats, pondering the food you've brought her. "Seeing students still studying those fields which many of my people helped to create and expand, it is as if the faith's golden age had never ended." Assassin's smile turns to a contemplative neutral as she holds out the half-eaten cheeseburger, asking "This... Cheeseburger, as you call it; it is halal, yes?"

"I wouldn't know. I don't even know if Japan has an Islamic population, so there's no telling whether or not something will meet your dietary requirements."

Assassin shrugs, and takes another bite regardless. "Then I shall hope that it is."

You brought a second cheeseburger with you; in case Assassin liked it, you didn't mind giving her another one if she wanted it. "Are you content to eat up here by yourself?" you ask, offering Assassin the second cheeseburger as she finishes the one you already gave her.

"Yes, this will be fine," Assassin replies, taking the offered food from you. "Though I would like to join you and your friends, I understand that I am not a student here and that my presence is unwelcome." She says, despite the fact that servants regularly congregate here at the school's roof when no one is looking. "Besides, staying here on the roof will allow me to have a better view of the city. I have never seen a city in the daylight like this before. It is new, and nice."

"Alright," you say. You'll have to acquire more food, now that Assassin's gone and taken both cheeseburgers from you, but that shouldn't be a problem. Maybe Archer's packed a lunch for Kirika that she'd be willing to share... Well, no, probably not after your embarrassed her this morning. You should go and apologise to her now that you have the time. "Then I'll leave you to enjoy the view;" and leave you do, departing from the roof with your destination, the third-year classrooms, in mind.

You think Kirika is here. You didn't see her in the cafeteria when you went to grab food, so unless Tomoe-san took her time convincing Kirika to sit with you, she's likely to be here.

Ah, yes, there she is.

"Do you have a moment?" you ask, spotting Kirika seated at her desk as you stick just your head into the classroom. Unfortunately, there's no sign of a lunch packed for her by Archer; just a bag with some snacks which she eats from with a less-than-pleased expression on her face.

"What do you want?"

"I wanted to apologise for what I said to you this morning," you say. "I want things between our families to work out, so I shouldn't have made fun of you for calling Archer 'daddy'." Even though she was only saying that to get him to do what she wanted; but still, an apology is an apology.

"Whatever." Kirika rolls her eyes, waving you off in a dismissive manner. You hope that all your social gains with Kirika haven't been destroyed just like that. "You're probably no worse than a real little sister would be, so, whatever."

"Speaking of that, if there's anything you've ever wanted to do with a little sister that you couldn't, for obvious reasons, just let me know."

"Yeah," Kirika says, with a long string of some kind of candy sticking out of her mouth like a cigarette, "I want you to leave me the hell alone."

"Are you angry because of what I said to you, or because you miss Mikuni Oriko?"

"Which do you think?" Kirika reminds you of Kyouko, as she stuffs her face with all manner of junk in lieu of a real lunch, and she says "It was bad enough when it was just Wednesday and last night, but over breakfast mom was talking like she and Archer are gonna start going out on Saturday nights. Now, that's one of the nights I'm supposed to stay with mom. You see the problem?"

If Minako is out with Archer on Saturday night, then Archer won't be available to help her study, which means... "Knowing my mom, she's probably gonna make me stay with her an extra night or something to make up for Saturday." Kirika lays her head down on her desk, and with a sigh says "I miss her, Homura. It's only been two days and I already miss her so much. Do you know what it's like, to miss the person you love so much that it hurts? Because that's what it feels like right now."

"I do," you say, internally debating between approaching Kirika to offer her something in the way of comfort, or keeping your distance and only approaching if she asks you to. "I know exactly how it feels to miss someone you love so much that it hurts."

"Your real parents, right?" You nod, remaining silent because Kirika would never understand the truth otherwise. "I... Guess it's the same, kind of? I mean, I missed my dad for awhile after he and mom got divorced. I still do, sometimes, even though I know I really shouldn't."

"Do you want to talk about it?"

Kirika waves you off again, but this time she does so much less dismissively. "Nah, that's fine. You go have lunch with your friends. Oriko's gonna call me any second now."

"Alright. But don't hesitate to let me know if you'd ever like to talk about something." As you turn to leave, you hear Kirika's phone go off, and moments later hear a much more enthusiastic Kirika voice her greetings to her girlfriend; and you can't help but smile.

Now, it's time to go meet up with your friends. You've kept them waiting long enough.

"Homura-chan!" Calls Madoka, waving you down as soon as she catches sight of you, as always. What isn't as always, however, is the absence of a certain blonde at the lunch table. "What took you so long?"

"There were a few things I needed to take care of before I could join you," you say to Madoka as you take your seat. With Archer absent, you've been forced to procure food from the cafeteria; and since Assassin ate both cheeseburgers that you had planned on eating, you've opted this time to sit down with a sandwich and chips. Hardly an adequate substitute for your father's cooking, but inedible it is not.. "Where's Tomoe-san?"

"She's over there," Sayaka says, adding with a wiggle of her eyebrows which you're sure is meant to be seductive "Chatting up some boys."

"Is she now?" A smirk forms on your lips; seems your former senpai's not as reserved at heart as she makes herself out to be. "Good for her. I hope she finds one of them to be to her liking." Hitomi, though she remains silent, gives her approval with a nod of her head.

"So..." Sayaka's eyes dart between you and Madoka, and she asks, still wiggling her eyebrows "What are you two going to do about your wedding, hm? Got everything all planned out yet?"

"Sayaka-san, there's no need to tease them."

"Oh but there is, Hitomi. There is."

Hitomi rolls her eyes, and while the two of them engage in whatever back-and-forth they've become accustomed to, you decide to take Sayaka's words to heart. Turning to Madoka, you ask her "So... If we really were going to get married; that is, assuming it were legal and we were of age, what are some things you'd want to think about? Where would it be? Do you want a western-style wedding or traditional Japanese one? Who would-"

"Homura-chan, please stop." You do so immediately. "I know you're just playing along with Sayaka-chan right now; and, while I'd like to get married one day, I think it's a little early for us to be thinking about marriage right now. We... We don't even know if we'll still be together by the time it's legal for two girls to get married."

"Alright, I'll stop," you say, dropping the subject and saying no more about it. "Is there anything you'd like to talk about instead?"

[ ] Wat do?

We need to start doing things again. In Part 2, we always had something that needed doing, and so even on slower days we were never really having the same day twice in a row. Here, it feels like we've settled into a routine; there's less we can and are doing to prepare for Part 3's big threat, and it feels like there's less for us to do overall. It's honestly not very exciting, and writing what to me feels like the same day over and over again feels more like a chore than Part 2 ever did. I'd really like for us to start doing things again, and judging by the considerable downswing in reader participation since the end of Part 2, I think you the readers would like for us to start doing things again as well.

Ooookay then? Tbf, this is the calm before the storm, so there's not much for Homura and co to do other than to prepare for Walpurgisnacht. Plus we have a bunch of unique social events going on as well, from day to day even.

It's not like there are any Witches or rival Puella Magi left to stir up conflict, in any case. The only way I see something big like that happening is if some faction of the Clocktower sends some enemy StandsMagi to collect some specimens (and yeah, that's a thing, even against the Wizard Marshall's orders, like when some faction sent Bazett to collect the Class Cards from Rin and Luvia in Prisma Illya).

Give us 'Cooking with Emiya' then!!! Lets turn this quest into a culinary delight. Maybe Soma up this (pardon my language) shit!

Cooking death battles starring;

Archer & Minako vs Kirika & Oriko

Homura & Madoka vs Tomohisa and Junko

With a special guest apperance by the one, the only...[King of Heroes] GILGAMESH!!!

FIGHT!

"I wouldn't know. I don't even know if Japan has an Islamic population, so there's no telling whether or not something will meet your dietary requirements."
It isn't btw, at least, not in Japan. Japan's Mcdonalds may serve pork burgers, and halal food must be prepared in a facility not used for preparing nonhalal food.

The only halal items in there should be the ice cream and drinks.

We could have Homura go out and restock her arsenal. It might not be as effective as in previous loops, but it could be handy in clearing out the familiars.

The Holy Church could send an Executor like Ciel to investigate what going on. Even with Caren telling them everything has been resolved, the Holy Church would still send someone for a follow-up investigation due to the death toll like how Rin is for the Clocktower.

Except, we just had a brand-new witch pop up only a few days ago. We've got a new teammate we need to whip into shape, and even though all seems calm, we don't know what else might be out there. After all, we thought there were no more witches right before the one from a few days ago showed up. and OOC, there are still two witches left for us to trip, though you didn't hear that from me.

What specimens are they going to collect? Thanks to Bazett keeping the higher-ups in the dark about what Homura and the girls really are, the Association has no idea of how different things are in Mitakihara.

Those are some pretty strange and unfair matchups. I mean, in your first matchup, neither Minako nor Kirika know how to cook, so it all comes down to whether Archer or Oriko can make the better dish. Pitting Tomohisa against anyone that isn't Archer is downright unfair. And Gil's too busy eating exotic meats from the AoG to care about what us mere mortals are doing.
Make some omakes, then?
They're not just a "okay, here's some shit" kind of thing. They have to come to me at the right time, and we have to be at the right place in the thread. And work on something that isn't the main focus would be kind of disjointed thanks to my current schedule, nor is that solving the issue of the quest being in a slow zone that's chore-ish for me to write through.
It isn't btw, at least, not in Japan. Japan's Mcdonalds may serve pork burgers, and halal food must be prepared in a facility not used for preparing nonhalal food.

The only halal items in there should be the ice cream and drinks.
But we're at the school's cafeteria, not McDo. You're still probably right about the food not being halal, but we are not in McDo.

I did consider this earlier when I was scouting for things to do for Part 3, and at least with Ciel, here's two problems. Despite me wanting to include her, A, Tsukihime isn't canon to this quest, so I don't know if Ciel even exists or not; and B, I have no idea how to write Ciel even if she were canon to this quest. Finding voices for the TM characters I've brought in has been varying degrees of hard, and I'm still not sure if my Rin and Bazett taste like the real thing. The same applies to other characters who are canon to this quest, like Waver and his goon squad; I don't know how well I could make them sound convincingly like themselves. And I don't want to throw together some OC to do the job because that's not really the point of this quest.
Am slightly upset Homura didn't offer to help Kirika cheat on her tests via time stop shenanigans.
You should have said something if you wanted us to say something.

But anyway, since everyone is here now, let's see some votes. I can still write, even if I can't resolve the chore-ish nature of this slow time, but I can't write without votes. I need your help here just as much as I need your help in pushing through the chore-ish period.

There was a major magical natural disaster. They'll be collecting specimens of anything magical that's not nailed to the floor - actually, they'd probably take that too. Just because they don't know what's in Mitakihara doesn't mean they don't think there isn't anything magical worth capturing for dissection, as Magi do. And yes, they really do send people to do things like this on their whims, mostly to the harm of those they're sending.

Just make up an Executor in that case, as it's really easy to make a hyper-competent super-priest what with all the crazy stuff they do with Holy Relics, Mystic Eyes, and their divine providences/blessings from God. I'd recommend taking inspiration from the El-Melloi II Case Files anime, as one such Executor is featured in it's latter half.

Honestly, there's no way you could come up with anything more silly or outrageous than what's already been showcased in the Nasuverse when it comes to Holy Relics (e.g. the immortal slaying giant machine gun bludgeon, the relic that summons a DAA-level Dead Apostle to wreck things, etc.).
--[x] Think about braiding your hair.
We've been over this, NMS. SVS vetoed that, and stated that Homura would have a panic attack. :p

[X] Plan Shokugeki
-[X] Switch perspectives to Archer
--[X] Before going over to the Kaname residence, go back to the Homuhomu and put on your best outfit
--[X] Make and deliver Minako's lunch while you're home, before attempting to collaborate with Kaname Tomohisa
--[X] Collaborate with Kaname Tomohisa and exchange cooking tips and techniques when applicable
---[X] You'll help make preparations, planning out the courses, and the like. When the time comes, you'll be cooking with Kaname Tomohisa.
----[X] You'll probably make dessert ahead of time, as that's something best served cool and so it won't get in the way of cooking dinner
---[X] Make a typical Ichijyu Sansai dinner. For the soup, make Miso Soup. For the main course, make Japanese Beef Steak, Genmai, and Sunomono.
----[X] For dessert, make a Strawberry Shortcake using a homemade Strawberry Mousse since it's seasonally appropriate
--[X] When preparations are complete and the time is right, buy some roses and pick Minako (and possibly Kirika, depending) up from her apartment for their datedinner with the Kanames
---[X] Turn your suave up to 11. Ignore the fact that Minako's creepy neighbor is spying on you picking up Minako.
----[X] Do that 'holding out your hand while bowing and saying "my lady"' thing while acting gallantly; you're of the Knight classes, act like it!
-----[X] Don't forget to do that arm looping thing while escorting Minako
------[X] Also don't forget to compliment her appearance when you first see her all dressed up, as the longer you let that sit the worse the reaction will be

-[] Switch perspectives to Homura
--[] Go home after school to put on your nicest outfit for the occasion
--[] Invite Assassin to tag along in spirit form, if she wants to. You'd rather bring her along in person as a distant cousin from Archer's side of the family or something, however you're worried that the Kanames might be insistent on shaking her hand or touching her or something like that, so no need to risk it.
--[] Go to the Kaname residence full of nervousness and anxiety, considering you promised Madoka you'd spill the beans sometime while you're over there

I know I could, but I don't want to throw some one-note churchman together for the sake of having a one-note churchman come knocking. It's the difference between taking a character that exists but who has no personality (Kirika's mom who appears in a single panel of Noisy Citrine -> Minako, for example) versus throwing someone together wholecloth because they could exist in the feasible background, but don't have any physical backing for their existence to stand on.

Also, I haven't seen The Waver Show. I suppose if I had, I could use the cited Executor, but I haven't been in the mood to watch anything new in a long, long time. It's one part my schedule, one part not wanting to wait the week between new episodes, and one part forgetting to come back to the things I wanted to watch once they're done airing.
(wait a minute, you didn't remember you had this outfit, it's been so long since you've needed it after all...)
But, earlier in the quest we bought a bunch of nice outfits when we went out our first date with Madoka and we've even worn them out a few times, unless you're suggesting that we wear what we wore to our parents' funerals...

Welp, completely overlooked that part, sorry about that. Though yeah, no need to worry about that Executor I mentioned, he was retiring at the time of Case Files.

Aaaand yeah, you're probably right. Can't recall if that was before my time or not, but eh. I blame the fact that it was so long ago irl. Edited that snippet out. 😅

It was. It happened in early August of 2018. Just thought I should specify that since we've been at this for almost two years now.

The Executor is definitely out of the picture. It takes place well before the Fifth Holy Grail Wars takes place, and the quest's setting is a decade after that. And that Executor (Karabo Frampton) was old, and later died to his wounds due to the Fake Servant's blow against him during the Mystic Eyes Train debacle (he was there to sell his Mystic Eyes of Transience, a Jewel-ranked version of the Mystic Eyes of Retrocognition, for the Holy Church before his retirement).
