Confringentur 2; a Madoka Magica / Fate/Stay Night sequel

That means you'll probably have to use Normal-type moves, like Hrunting.
Actually, going by precendent swords would either be fighting (the move Sacred Sword, as well as Musketeer quadtrio from Gen 5) or steel (the Aegislash line, Kartana, and Sword Dog from Sword). It's only swords Dance that's a normal move, but since it doesn't deal damage and there's nowhere near as much normal representation of swords compared to the other two, I'm less inclined to give the normal type to swords than I am to steel or fighting.
Are we fighting a Witch with Color Change*?
Oh s***, you're probably right.
Both types are strong against ice, by the way.
You and Hrunting, man.
Don't give him lip. Hrunting is just about the most normal thing he could have Archer use.

Day 3 Chapter 11
[X] Yes
-[X] Try to not use any elementally charged moves, like fire or anything.
--[X] Along those lines; Hrunting.

A wall of ice is conjured to block the witch's path as it fords the river to the bank nearest your position, and when the witch tries to lumber over the wall, it is met with volleys of swords. It bellows in agony, before lashing out with its tongue and its tail. The tail strikes first, crashing into the wall of ice and sending ice shards spraying everywhere. The distraction is enough, and Hitomi is unable to scorch the witch's tongue as it lashes out again. You move to dodge; not a moment too soon. The road shatters at the impact, and a frozen crater is left when the witch rolls its tongue back into its mouth.

Well, that's different.

"So, ice tongue," you say. "I wasn't expecting an ice tongue."

"Well, some of us have been using ice attacks on it," Nurse Ortensia says. "Maybe it's mimicking us." She's not saying whether it's you or Assassin she's accusing, but you can hear it unspoken.

"Can it do that?"

"I don't know," you say to Hitomi How would you know? The previous witches have never attacked you with ice tongues before. You have no idea what this means. "But if we assume that to be the case, then I think it's best if we avoid hitting it with elemental attacks. If it's able to mimic the attacks we throw at it, it's best we give it as little to work with as possible."

"Way ahead of you," Archer says, drawing back a jagged black sword on his bow. "Assassin, you still with me?"

"If I'm not, it means I've died and gotten away from that witch holding my Command Seals." Restricting the use of elemental attacks isn't going to slow either of them down; Archer has his swords, and Assassin apparently has swords of her own, once she conjures them from a ring of Tiwaz runes. "Granted, if I die without ever enjoying my time here, I'm dragging her down with me."

"I'm sure you two would make each other miserable." It's almost funny how casually Archer and Assassin trade barbs with one another as they skewer the witch with sword after wave of swords. "If you found a third person to go with you, you could even put on your own rendition of 'No Exit'. Wouldn't that be something?"

"I have no idea what you are talking about." The witch lets out a hideous - almost pitiable - wail as swords loosed from Archer and Assassin tear its body to shreds. It attempts to escape back into the water before a wave of swords blocks its path, followed shortly thereafter by another wave which comes crashing down upon the witch's limbs and back. "Dare I even ask?"

"'No Exit' is the name of a play by French author Jean-Paul Sartre, about three sinners trapped together in Hell with their torment being each other's presence." At this point, it almost sounds as if Archer and Assassin are enjoying their conversation? In their own strange way, at least, by the sound of things.

"My, that would be something, trapped forever in a room with her and some other annoying person." The witch, in a last, desperate gambit, barrels through the wall of incoming swords, heading directly towards Nurse Ortensia, who has - for whatever unfathomable reason - taken it upon herself to wander in close, bypassing Saber's protection. Assassin sighs, turning her attention to her master as she says "I should probably handle that. I would simply hate if something happened to my precious master, after all."

Just as Assassin is about to reach the witch, just as the witch is about to reach Nurse Ortensia, Nurse Ortensia holds out her hand. "Be crushed," she says, as a burning light radiates from her palm, incinerating the witch completely. A Grief Seed falls to the ground, tumbling down the inclined river bank before stopping just short of falling into the river. Nurse Ortensia turns to you, asking "I assume you'll be wanting that?"

You will, in fact, be wanting that. You make your way down the river bank, finding exactly what you had expected to find for your troubles. This Grief Seed is the same as all the others, lumpy, misshapen, and definitely not a Grief Seed. You really need to come up with a better name for these, you think as you pocket the lumpy Grief Seed. "I wonder how the others are doing?"

"Magic-cancelling spit."

"It could fly. I didn't know they could fly."

"I almost wish I hadn't asked." Your teammates sound like they certainly had a time of things. "Mine could only shoot ice from its tongue."

As you and your teammates swap stories of your various witches and how you defeated them, one singular thought emerges at the forefront of your mind. You wouldn't say you would ever look forward to a witch attack - certainly you'd never say that about a witch attack near Madoka's house - but with Archer and Assassin making quick work of the night's witch, you would certainly prefer fighting a witch over the Pleiades Saints. Even Hitomi managed to chip in with her Mystic Code, and "Nurse Ortensia dealt the finishing blow to the witch." That might have been the most surprising thing of all. "She just held out her hand, said a few words, and the witch was just... Gone."

"I told you, my tools make me well-suited to fight men and evil spirits," Nurse Ortensia says, her finger idly toying with one of the lumpy Grief Seeds as though it were a spinning top. "Does that surprise you? All I did was perform a modification of a basic exorcism spell. It's nothing to get worked up over."

"But it is quite interesting," Oriko says. "Do you think you would be willing to teach us, Caren-san?"

"I don't know." Nurse Ortensia places a sly finger to her lips, gazing around the room as she says "None of you are good enough Christians to be able to make use of the Church's scriptures, anyway." Her words almost cause Oriko to deflate where she sits, like a sad, Oriko-shaped balloon. "If you're that desperate to be in God's grace, I could always sell you some indulgences, hm? Maybe a few thousand Yen for a 'get out of Hell free' card or two? A nice matching pair for you and your girlfriend to do anything you'd like."

Kirika snarls at Nurse Ortensia as she pulls Oriko in close. "You don't have to be so mean, you know? Oriko works really hard to be good at her religion thing. She doesn't need you talking down to her like she's done a bad job or anything."

So either the Sorta-Witch going towards Madoka's house was a coincidence or I was wildly off on my hunch that the Saints wouldn't target our non-magical girl friends. Either way we should probably assume it wasn't a coincidence.

[X] Plan Pray The Witches Away
-[X] Try to make Oriko feel better
--[X] Refute Caren's claim by stating for a fact that Oriko is one of the most pious and genuinely remorseful people you know, and you would know coming from a Christian private school; if there's anyone among them that would be able to learn Mysteries of the Church, it's most certainly her
-[X] What to do about witches going forward
--[X] Make it standard to check and see if the Pleiades Saints would be capitalizing on any Warped Witch attacks, but otherwise continue splitting up to deal with them; maybe start leaving behind a rapid response group to reinforce any groups attacking Warped Witches or to counter plans made by the Saints while they're away
-[X] Do we have a better name than 'lumpy Grief Seeds'?
--[X] Warped Seed
-[X] Get Hitomi started on
--[X] Runes
---[X] She could try creating better Mystic Codes once they got the workshop(s) up and running (since they'll be set up using Magecraft from the Age of Gods) and combat training during their next team practice session
-[X] Get Nurse Ortensia started on
--[X] training Oriko in the Church's Mysteries if she agrees to teach her, since she's the only one out of them that would likely be able to effectively learn them anyways

Don't know what to put in for a future practice session, though they got their hands full for the immediate future anyways due to the ongoing "war" with the Pleiades' Saints.

Going with Warped Seed to not miraculously stumble upon the canonical name for them, as well as to emphasize that they don't work to absorb Grief from their Soul Gems anyways.

Is their an "or" to go along with that "either"? I've never seen "either" used by itself, so I'm assuming you were trying to say "Going either Warped Seed or..." so what's the "or" part of that statement?

What are some good runes for Hitomi to consider? Seeing as you and @PlaguePaladin - oh hey Plague, didn't see you there - both gave me differing opinions of what the runes could do, I'm interested to see if you've got differing opinions of where HItomi should start.

All of them, obviously. Hitomi shall be our omni-mage and our enemies will fear her!

Was in a rush and typed up the plan on my phone, I blame autocorrect. 😅

Anyone got a link to Plague's Rune suggestions? I'm afraid I haven't had the chance to see it myself yet (here's my old one of anyone needs to find it). ^^

Regardless, as a general suggestion right this moment Hitomi would do good with Runes that have to due with her element of Wind or her Origin of Structure, and would do poorly with Runes that specialize in large unfocused attacks like Sowilo's fire path (as opposed to Ansuz's more controlled/precise fire element path). She'd also be interested in furthering her own path of Magecraft through Runes (so something that'll help her manipulate certain elements like Oxygen and Hydrogen, or elements in general, so something precise will be needed).

EDIT: Will come up with some more concrete suggestions in a little bit, was in the middle of something irl.

Here. The beginning is mostly just guesswork at affinities, the actual Runes start later. I think if we want her to go down the offensive long-rage stuff, Hagalaz might be a good idea. Also going off my affinity list, Mannaz might be useful for making familiars or something, idunno, whatever.

On that note, Oriko has an element of Light, right? Dagaz might work with her; especially since it could be handy to have on either of our rune sheets.

My vote is to teach Hitomi either Eihwaz or Algiz. Because she is a squishy human and, as I understand it, these two are the 'make user not die' Runes.

Sorry I'm so late to return to the conversation, but I'm back now (still stuck on a phone though).

Looking back on the meanings of these Runes - including outside mine and Plague's summarizations of what they could be capable of - I think Hitomi would greatly benefit from learning the Rune Raidho.

Hitomi's Element is Wind, which deals with air, kinetic forces, static energy, free energy and directed movement, along with having "warm and wet" features (whatever that means).

Raidho is the Rune that deals with right action, movement, motion, taking charge, and being in control, which synergizes greatly with her Element and how she's using it (directed and precise movement of Oxygen in order to produce fire). It also really synergizes with her Origin of Structure as well, considering how Raidho is supposed to be "ordered movement of energies" and such instead of how many Runes are destructive or uncontrollable, or unrelated to fine manipulation of things.

Raidho would greatly bolster Hitomi's existing Magecraft base with little cost in comparison to other Runes due to how low-scale it can be, so this is getting my vote.

EDIT:
So, obviously SVS doesn't want anything to do with Grand Order, but I was just catching up in the story and came across this scene where Brynhildr joins up and talks about her situation as a Servant and her past with Sigurd.

Thought it was fitting to throw this in here somewhere considering the circumstances in-quest. Not necessarily canon to this quest of course. Beware of minor Lostbelt 2 spoilers, assuming you're only watching Brynhildr's scene.

Ansuz ᚨ:

I don't know where they got the idea that Ansuz makes fire from in Fate because it has literally no relations to fire at all, but whatever
I think it's just because the Ansuz rune looks like an F "for Fire, obviously," in the coke-addled mind of whoever made that call.

She does, but looking at what Dagaz does across yours and Enetious's sheets, I'm not sure what having Oriko learn Dagaz would do that we aren't already getting.
Dagaz:Grant rank of Presence Concealment, aid in Golemancy, transmutation magic
We don't need a rune for Presnce Concealment when Archer can make us a shiny new shiv to keep in our back pocket. We don't really need golems when we've got two-three servants capable of making familiars, plus if we're operating under the assumption that the enemy Caster is Golem Dudel, do we really want to be making golems when that would just end up giving him the advantage? Lastly, as much as I'm curious as to what Oriko could make, we've already got Hitomi hitting that sweet spot for our team, and I'm hesitant to give out any more on-the-nose points when Niko by herself is rocking about 51 of the things. Meta concerns and all that, you know? I don't want to imbalance the flavour too much in one direction.
-Light and heat related magic, think less like a torch and more like convection stove for fire related stuff
-Slathers allies with incredibly varied, if minor, buffs; I.E boosted willpower, physical buffs, minor Luck increase, so on so forth
-Keeps allies at full strength for longer
We've already got Mami pumping our Soul Gems full of delicious steroids Wunjo for our buffs, not to mention she's also got Grief dampening which, by way of reducing the mental damage accumulated Grief causes also acts as that "boosted willpower" you've brought up. So that knocks two out of three right out. Then for the last one, we've got Kyouko to cover the "heat" aspect and Caren, soon to also be Oriko if we succeed in convincing her, covering the "light" aspect.

Add to that, I've already got a million different things to keep track of, so while I'm fine with giving some boons to Hitomi and Caren so they aren't just dead weight, I'm overall much less inclined to ask that we give additional runes to the Quintet members.

Who and when did we start thinking this?
I have no idea who started it, but I think it was a few pages back when a character said something like 'Caster's project' and players started freaking out and making assumptions until it snowballed into people thinking it was Avicebron. It might be, but honestly, I'm not sure how high the chances are since we haven't seen a giant glut of golems coming at us.

Who and when did we start thinking this?
Caster of Black from Apocrypha. I couldn't remember how to spell his name, and I wasn't sure if people would know who I meant if I called him Solomon Ibn Gabriol, so I went with something that would at least get the point across. Here's a list of the people who have speculated the identity of the enemy's Caster.
So, more of a technician than a performer. Also male. Avicebron is my panic guess, but we don't know enough to circle the dots.
This just gives me the feeling that their caster is Avicebron. Also I don't think we have the time to grab an NP from GIl.
Just going to remind everyone that Avicebron typically requires a base "core" to create his Noble Phantasm, which is usually either a Homunculus, some kind of strong magical creature, or his own spiritual core by sacrificing himself. So even if we keep Niko's clone/homunculus away from them, Avicebron could just seppuku and summon Eve Adam controllable by those he grants permission to. Oh joy.
I utterly agree, and that's why enemy!Caster is quite high in the target list. And @Enetious I guess he would not sacrifice himself this time, but instead put one of the hurt/almost witching girls into Adam. Either way, Adam awakening is a lost scenario.
Inb4 Avicebron turns out to be their Caster, and they find out that he can use his senses through materials like what the museum is made out of in a decent range around him. Kabbalah OP. :V
If their Caster is Avicebron, then he'll deeply regret having murdered a child from his previous summoning, and would likely be with Atalanta in hating his employers - especially so since they're the aggressors, not to mention their inhumane experiments in creating life which also happen to be children. Don't worry about the length of the video, it's right at the beginning.

I thought it was Avicebron mostly because he's the first Caster that came to mind when a "Project" was discussed. There's also the fact that Hijiri is related to said Project so I felt like he was the most likely.

Day 3 Chapter 12
[X] Plan Pray The Witches Away

"If you're that desperate to be in God's grace, I could always sell you some indulgences, hm?" A sly look overtakes Nurse Ortensia's face as she speaks to Oriko, a look which Kirika hardly appears to have appreciated. "Maybe a few thousand Yen for a 'get out of Hell free' card or two? A nice matching pair for you and your girlfriend to do anything you'd like."

Kirika snarls at Nurse Ortensia as she pulls Oriko in close. "You don't have to be so mean, you know? Oriko works really hard to be good at her religion thing. She doesn't need you talking down to her like she's done a bad job or anything."

You feel compelled to chime in. A matter of family between Oriko and her cousin this may be, but Oriko is a close friend and the lover of your big sis. It's almost a matter of family concerning you as well. "I agree with Kirika; your assessment of your cousin's faith is hardly a fair one. Oriko is easily the most pious and genuine person I know. If there's anyone deserving of being called a good Christian, it's her."

"And what are your qualifications for making that claim?"

"I've got a bit of a religious education myself, actually," you say. Your response must come as a surprise to Nurse Ortensia, judging by the look that steals away her nonchalance for a brief moment. "I studied at Saint Hilda's in Tokyo for my seventh year, before transferring to Mitakihara. I can still remember most of my religious coursework, as a matter of fact." You've forgotten the sounds of your parents' voices, but somehow you've managed to retain the contents of your seventh-year coursework. You'll never fail to be amazed. "The point being, if there's any one of us that would be able to learn the Church's magecraft, it would be Oriko; and I think you owe it to your cousin to teach her, in light of how useful it should prove against witches."

"Thank you for your kind words," Oriko says to both you and Kirika. "But you needn't get angry with Caren-san. I know her words might upset me at times, but isn't she just protecting me by keeping me from involving myself in the goings-on of the Church?" You look to Nurse Ortensia, whose face betrays no affirmation or rejection of Oriko's claim. Still, she does know her cousin better than you do...

"Well, if you're sure..." Even if Oriko knows her cousin better than you do, you still aren't sure. "If you think what Nurse Ortensia can teach you would be helpful, don't feel like you don't have a right to ask her."

Oriko nods; hopefully that settles the matter. Tomoe-san glances to everyone in the room, and asks "Well, whether or not Mikuni-san decides to learn magecraft from Nurse Ortensia, we still need to decide what we can do about these witches and their... Lumpy Grief Seeds." Tomoe-san shakes her head, muttering to herself "We really need to come up with something better to call them. They clearly aren't Grief Seeds in the slightest." "It's going to be hard to deal with them going forward if we also have to worry about being attacked from multiple fronts." You doubt her phrasing only refers to the possibility of multiple witches attacking at once.

Kyouko glances in the direction of Oriko. You can see it in her eyes; you can hear the remark she wants to make as Kirika cuddles up to her lover. But, to her credit Kyouko keeps silent, asking "Why don't we have Big White take a gander whenever we got a witch attack?" instead of making whatever comment had lingered on her tongue. "That way, we've at least got something of a warning in case those bitches decide ta come after us while we're distracted?"

"Or we could just take them," Kirika says. "I don't care if I've gotta push myself a little harder to take on some witches as well as those girls. I still owe Miss Monocle and that Pink Bitch for hurting Oriko that one night. The monocle one especially- If I can kill her, then Oriko won't have to waste any more Command Seals calming Lancer down, 'cause then their Saber's master'll be dead."

"Dearest, you shouldn't revel in the thought of taking another's life," Oriko says. "We owe it to ourselves to retain the moral high ground, even if we dislike our enemies."

"You're right," Kirika says. "I'm sorry, Oriko."

Oriko smiles, running a hand through Kirika's hair as her lover relents. "That said, I have no problem using my precognition to give us a heads up if the Saints are going to attack us while we're occupied fighting a witch. I don't know how useful I will be, since they have shown themselves be to able to hide from my precognition in the past, but I will do my best whenever possible if that's what is needed of me."

You and Tomoe-san both check your phones at the same time. "We've still got some time," Tomoe-san says. "If there's anything else we need to cover tonight, there's still a bit of time before it gets too late." The five of you may not need rest, but you have two normal humans who most certainly do; a thought which makes you question what will happen to Hitomi's ability to function effectively in a lengthy engagement or late-night team meeting.

"I would like to get Shizuki-san started on her first runes as soon as possible," Oriko says. Turning to Hitomi, she adds "Lancer is almost finished typing her lesson plan. I can have her bring you a copy tomorrow; but for now, I'm prepared to go over the basics with you, if you'd like."

"That would be fine, Mikuni-san," Hitomi says. "I hope it's not too much effort, though."

"Not at all." Oriko looks over her shoulder as she and Hitomi make their way to a corner of Tomoe-san's living room, back in the direction of her cousin. "I confess, I would like for Caren-san to teach me her Church magecraft, but if she doesn't believe it's in my best interest to know I'm more than happy to teach you instead."

Nurse Ortensia remains silent. You can't help but look to her. Is she trying to protect Oriko by refusing to let her get that close to the Church; or does she really think so little of her cousin? You don't know, and you don't know if it's your business to ask her.
