Confringentur 2; a Madoka Magica / Fate/Stay Night sequel

On the topic of Lucifer though, there's also a weapon named Lucifer in DmC that actually does relate to this situation, especially if Homura increases her tracing skills in the near future.
Also on the topic of Lucifer, there's a much cooler weapon named after Lucifer in Shaman King. It's a Lamborghini that transforms into a mechanical angel, and it's used by one of the chief lieutenants of the series' main antagonist. That doesn't relate to this situation, but it's the first thing I think of when I think of weapons named after Lucifer. I mean, unless we wanted to splurge and buy Homura a Lambo for her birthday, but that seems pretty expensive and I have a feeling that Kirika would just end up "borrowing" it to go on joyrides with Oriko if we did.

So, the good thing about these wings is, since they're made from our Grief, we can convert any additional Grief we build up in the course of using other magic into thrust to keep ourselves airborne, which also means she can use more powerful attacks without suffering an additional Grief burden because of it.

Oh, does this mean she can use Finitora Freccia Maggiore without Mami's Grief Dampening now?

Oh, does this mean she can use Finitora Freccia Maggiore without Mami's Grief Dampening now?
Debatable. Finitore Freccia Maggiore takes a lot out of Homura, and is a particular instance where I wish I had managed to come up with a coherent combat system that measured Grief so I could give a definitive answer as to just how much Grief it causes Homura to accumulate. I would say that Homura definitely needs to be airborne and burning Grief, but even then I'd still be cautious about using it without Grief dampening. Remember, even with Grief dampening Finitora Freccia Maggiore pushes Homura to her limits. Whether she theoretically could or not, I personally would still err on the side of caution so she doesn't end up burning herself out in midair, on the chance that it still costs more in Grief than we're able to put into the wings.

Also, this is why I don't like posting updates so close to the page turn, because it means there's a very likely possibility that the page turns and other people don't see it to know that they can vote.

Attn @PlaguePaladin @NMS @K4lepo;
Just a reminder that we're going back to Archer's perspective tomorrow to follow up on that thing with Sakura. We'll be tackling this vote Saturday. Sunday is currently up in the air; I'll be traveling that day, and I don't know if I'll be getting back home in time to have the energy to write anything. But I'll let you know either way.

As an aside, do you all like this style of staggered/delayed updating, where I ask you to vote on material for the update after the next one? It's more convenient for me when I'm writing because it gives me a cushion of an extra day, but I'm aware that it might be confusing to all of you to be voting on something that'll be showing up tao days after you've voted on it. Let me know. There are times when I think it's unavoidable, like now when I'm writing two different perspectives happening concurrently, but I also know that I don't have to stick with it if it's confusing.

I think it's fine, personally; I have the attention span of a fence picket, so giving me fresh stimuli is nice.

Day 28 Chapter 6
[X] Plan: Do Not Wreck The Home (part 2)

"Um, Archer… Can I talk to you about something?"

There's four of you currently out on patrol right now; you and Rin, and Sakura and Rider. Honestly, if your idiot younger self showed up with Saber in tow, it'd be just like old times. Heck, even Illya and Berserker would be appreciated presences right now, just as long as they weren't trying to kill you.

Your team of four have passed the point where Homura's team had to stop last time, and boy, is it a mess. Unmelted ice fortifications litter the streets; at least, where there's still street to be littered, because there are large, smoke-stained chunks of street that just aren't there anymore. If they haven't all been scared off or hypnotised by now, you imagine that any construction crews still in the city have just given up by this point. You can't say you'd blame them.

Rin has just passed over you and Sakura, and is inspecting what you imagine is a previously-lain anchor for structural damage. When you see her wipe her brow exaggeratedly and proclaim "Whew, it's safe," you know that everything is well, and while she's out of earshot you say "Sure, Sakura, what did you need?"

"Well, it's about you." Ah. So you were right to be worried. "More accurately, it's about the you that sister is dating. I… I know I can't sway you away from your family, but sister is so busy all the time; she barely has any time for senpai. So… Rider and I were talking, and maybe… You'd be willing to help us get senpai to break up with sister so he and I could be together?"

At least it's not about you directly. Minako is more than enough for you; having anyone else try to proposition themselves to you is just too much.

"Listen, Sakura…" You don't want to have this conversation with Sakura. You really don't want to have this conversation with Sakura. Especially not when you can already see the defeat in her eyes from just those two words alone. "I understand how you're feeling right now; I really do. I know that if I had to sit on the sidelines while Minako was with a man who didn't appreciate her, I'd feel exactly the same way you do. But, I can't help you with this problem."

Sakura hangs her head. "I know," she says. "I knew from the start that asking you would be foolish, but I…" Sakura turns her head back in Rin's direction; Rin, who is completely oblivious to the conversation you and Sakura are having, ignores her, and Sakura returns her focus to you. "I just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask… But I guess I was wrong there, too…"

An internal debate rages inside you. On one hand, Sakura is your friend, and a very precious one at that; or at least she was, back when you were still Emiya Shirou and not Archer; and you don't see anything wrong with wanting to hug a friend in distress. On the other hand, you're already with an incredible woman whom you love, more than your mortal self ever loved Sakura, whom you know desires you about as much as any other Emiya Shirou in the world, and you don't want to give her what she might think is an invitation.

You decide not to hug her, not now, but you resolve to think it over and come to a decision on whether or not it's okay to hug Sakura, generally, once things have calmed down a little.

"I know it's rough, but this is something you and Rin have to figure out for yourselves. If you really, truly believe that she's not giving Shirou the time you think he deserves, than talk to her. Talk to him. Try to understand their relationship from their point of view before doing anything drastic." Like asking Rider to seduce you on her master's behalf, for example. "I believe in you. I know you're capable of so much. You just have to find the strength inside you to speak up when you want to be heard."

"It's so easy to do when it's just about trivial stuff," Sakura says. "Like keeping Shinji under my thumb; it barely requires any effort at all, so it's easy for me to speak up and make sure he knows how I feel. But… Why is it so hard when it's about something important?"

"It's hard because it's important," you say. Your thoughts flash to Homura. Your youngest daughter has been through so much in her life, much, much more than any girl her age should ever have to have gone through. But she did it. She succeeded, because the goal was worth it to her. "But when it's something you have to do for yourself, then it's worth doing, no matter how hard it is."

Sakura does her best to smile for you; it's hard, and you know it's hard, but you've seen this girl smile through worse. Now that she's the one who has control over her own life, you're sure she'll be able to smile for real no matter what obstacles are in her way. "That, and Minako would kill me if I ever became a homewrecker," you say, hoping to lighten the mood. "She's a real stickler for fidelity, that one. I know she'd be mad if I agreed to help you get your sister's boyfriend to break up with her."

Even if she's a ravenous horndog and an insatiable demon in bed, she still values fidelity; and not just in her own relationship, either. But you'll keep those thoughts to yourself.

"Hey you two, what's the holdup?" Finally, finally, Rin notices that you and Sakura aren't keeping up with her progress. "Sakura, stop trying to seduce my servant and come help me already!"

Sakura's face turns a brilliant scarlet, almost the same shade as Rin's jacket, and she turns away from you. "I'm doing no such thing!" she calls out to her sister. Beside Rin, you see Rider chuckling to herself, causing Sakura to moan "Mou~ Not you too, Rider!" only for Rider to laugh even more.

This is nice, you think as you watch on. In your time, Rin and Sakura weren't able to have this kind of life, where they're able to joke around and have fun, the way sisters should be able to. The way you're so glad that Homura and Kirika can. You already know that you're a far cry from the world's best dad, but you swear you'll be the best dad to your two daughters that you can be, that you'll give them the life and the happiness that Rin and Sakura never could have back then.

"I'm glad you two are able to be like this," you say, not realising that you've said those words out loud until Rin and Sakura are turned towards you. "Oh, crap, did I say that out loud?"

Your self-reflection only serves to turn the sisters' laughter from each other onto you. "Geez, Archer, way to show your age," Rin says. "But seriously, thanks for saying that."

Sakura nods her head, adding "It's been rough, but I'd like to believe that sister and I have a much better relationship now than we did when we were younger."

"Yeah, really," Rin adds. "But really, Archer, you saying that just makes you sound so… Old. Like, where's the sassy Archer I used to know?"

"I'm a father of two now, Rin." You feel you have to remind her of that fact; not that she could forget, but still. "I needed to start acting my age sometime."

"Yeah? Well…" Rin's voice trails off, and she's at a loss for words. "You couldn't have picked a better time to grow up, Shirou."

Sometimes, you wish that your mind were more like a phone and less like your ears; that when Homura would contact you, it would be as a gentle, but obvious sound, which you could then choose to pick up and be prepared for when you finally heard her voice. Instead, the "Archer, how are things going on your end?" comes just as suddenly and as unexpectedly as it always does, tearing you away from this moment with the Rin and Sakura you wish you could have seen years ago.

"We're going slow, but steady," you reply. "We're picking up from where your team left off yesterday, so part of our time out was just spent getting in place. Then Rin wanted to make sure that the anchors she'd set yesterday hadn't been damaged in the attack, and now we're only just starting to move on to setting new anchor points."

"All right. Don't feel like you need to rush through this,"
Homura says. "It's better to do a thorough job of this than a fast one. Have you checked in with mom at all yet?"

"I haven't,"
you reply. "Do you think she needs checking in with? Or do you think that Kirika would have gotten in touch with one of us if something had happened?"

"Probably the latter,"
Homura admits. "But, I'm still worried about her, that's all."

"I know, kid. I'm worried about your mom, too."
You keep your sigh to yourself, and turn your head to where Rin and Sakura are working, setting another anchor point several meters down the block. "I'll contact her at some point soon, I promise."

"Hey, Archer, hurry up!" Rin calls out to you. "What's the holdup?"

"I'm talking to Homura!" you call back. "I'll just be a little while longer!"

"Well, don't take too long, you hear?"

You'll try not to take too long when you're talking to your daughter, Rin, thank you very much. You understand how important this is, but Homura doesn't call you up just to bother you. She's checking in, just like you should be doing for her. "How's everything coming on your end?"

"Kanna Niko is talking with Oriko, Lancer, and Assassin right now,"
Homura says. "I just got done having a practice match with Wakaba Mirai, so I haven't had the chance to check in with them yet, but I'll do that as soon as we're done talking." You're about to ask Homura how that went, but, as if she can read your mind, Homura continues, saying "Wakaba Mirai is… She's doing very well, actually. I was right to think that having Kazumi within range of her Mystic Code was the key. She's… She's actually got a lot of power under the hood, once she's able to draw it out without killing herself."

"Does she now?"

"She was able to keep up a pretty impressive assault with her teddy bear familiars, and she's got a much more powerful fire spell than just blasting things with an indiscriminate column of flames,"
Homura says. "We'll have to keep her close to Kazumi, but I think she's really got the potential to do some serious damage if we let her apply herself properly."

You want to agree with Homura, but there's just one thing stopping you. "That's assuming we can rein her in and keep her from exploding on anyone else like she and Sakura used to," you say. "I'm glad you're thinking of ways to make her useful to the team, but I think I'm going to reserve judgement for right now."

"Archer!" Rin calls out to you again. "Come on, we're finished setting anchors in this area! Get a move on or we'll leave you behind!"

You want to snap back at Rin, but you know she's right. You and Homura have checked in with each other, and you and she can let each other go if there's no more news. "I've got to get going now," you say to her. "Rin's getting on my ass and I don't want to be the one holding us up. Stay safe out there, and I'll talk to you later."

"Right. Talk to you later, dad."

[ ] Wat do?

If you don't have anything more involved to add here than "Call Minako and check in with her" that's fine. We'll be switching back to Homura's perspective tomorrow with material all set to go, so it's no big loss to me if there's nothing too complex to be added onto this. I just figured I check in case somebody were to hit on something really major that I didn't have the wherewithal to think about.

Day 28 Chapter 7
[X] Plan: Stop the Fight

Wakaba Mirai is still standing. Her sword remains wreathed in flames, and although the steam explosion appears to have scalded her quite fiercely, her regeneration module is knitting over her burnt flesh with clear pink skin. Her teddy bears are not quite so lucky; each one is wracked with burns, or missing limbs altogether from where the pressure of the expanding steam cloud tore them off. Even her largest bear has suffered some pretty extensive damage, but not enough to bring it down.

You draw back the string of your bow, and Wakaba Mirai readies her sword for another blow, when- "Stop!"

Kazumi steps out onto the battlefield, and you and Wakaba Mirai both turn towards her as she interrupts your duel. "What do you think you're doing, Kazumi?" Wakaba Mirai snaps. "We're still fighting." She cranes her head up towards you, adding "Aren't we? I mean, I'm still good to go if you are."

"That's why I'm stopping you," Kazumi says. "You're clearly not having any problems; you'll just hurt each other if you keep going."

You have to admit it; Kazumi is correct here. As you look down at the battlefield, you don't see a way for the fight to continue, as it is, without either you or Wakaba Mirai sustaining some serious damage. You could land, and be subject to a brutal mauling by her army of teddy bears if you aren't fast enough to disable them all first; or Wakaba Mirai can continue blasting you with her flames, forcing you to use more and more powerful attacks in order to build up enough Grief to stay airborne, which could just as easily run the risk of injuring her as it could you if you can't generate enough Grief and come crashing down to earth.

You nod your head, agreeing with Kazumi, and say to Wakaba Mirai "No, she's got a point. I've seen what I needed to."

"Well, all right," Wakaba Mirai says, with an obvious resignation in her voice. Was she enjoying her fight with you? "If you say so." She clicks her heels together three times, and her army of teddy bears disintegrates. The last thing to go is her sword, which she powers down as you land, before quickly transforming it back into its wand shape and slipping it under her sleeve with a single flick. "Still, that was a pretty good fight you put up. Those wings? Hella cool. Where'd you learn to do that?"

You allow your wings to dissipate once your feet have touched the ground, and you return feeling to your back and shoulders only after the sound of cracking mana fades, your new regeneration module repairing the damage as it was meant to. "Spur of the moment thing," you say, approaching Wakaba Mirai to offer her a hand to shake, if you wishes. "Tried it out in my fight against Maki Kaoru when we were practicing the other day."

"Right, but…?" Wakaba Mirai's voice trails off, and she tries to peer her head around to your backside, as if seeing the shredded back of your tunic will give her any additional information. "None of us can just sprout wings like that. What the heck are they made of, and how are you doing it?"

"I'm channelling my Grief into a physical form," you reply. "Wings are convenient." In theory, maybe you could also transform your Grief into other applications as well, like new weapons, or maybe even familiars of your own. Are you sure you would want to do that? That seems to be dangerously approaching the domain of witches…

You can see some emotion forming on Wakaba Mirai's face as you speak, so you pre-empt her by saying "It's not something I could just teach you to do overnight, if that's what you're wondering."

That's enough to do it. Instead of asking you whatever else she had been planning to, Wakaba Mirai instead asks "Does it hurt? 'Cause it looks like it'd hurt a lot, if those things are made of Grief and they're coming straight out of your back like that."

"It does," you say. "But I've taken to shutting off the pain receptors in my back and shoulders while I've got them active."

Silently, Wakaba Mirai nods her head, and- "Hey, so, uh, is it safe to approach you two yet?" You and Wakaba Mirai turn your heads as Asami Saki speaks up. "Or are you two about to go another round, or…? What's going on?"

"We're done," you say. "I've seen what I needed to, and I'm glad to report that Wakaba Mirai's Mystic Code is working as intended." Better, in fact, if Kazumi's presence gave her that much of an increase in what she could afford to do. "Did you need something from one of us?"

"Nah," AsamI Saki says. "More just that I wanted to congratulate Mirai on doing so well." Wakaba Mirai beams with pride as Asami Saki compliments her, and she adds "That last attack you did was really something. I didn't even know you had it in you."

"Well, I've never had the chance to practice that much," Wakaba Mirai replies. "'I've always had to hold back before on account of my low mana. But now, as long as I keep Kazumi around, I'm basically unstoppable."

You won't shatter the illusion for her. Even with Kazumi's assistance, you doubt that Wakaba Mirai would be a match for Oriko, or any of your team's servants, in a fair fight. Sure, against you, Tomoe-san, or Kyouko she might win purely through attrition, but she's got a long ways to go before you'd feel comfortable letting her brag about how 'unstoppable' she is.

As Asami Saki and Wakaba Mirai hug, you and Kazumi step aside so they can be let be. "So, how did it feel having someone else tapping into your mana?"

"Uh… I don't know," Kazumi replies. "It just kind of felt… Normal? I guess." She shakes her head, adding "Sorry, I guess I don't really have the words to describe what you're looking for."

"I'm glad to hear that it wasn't any trouble for you, then," you say. You aren't sure if you hould ask this of Kazumi, but you're compelled by your curiosity; so you ask her "How did things go last night with the Hijiris?"

At first, Kazumi is silent, and you're unsure whether you've offended her or not. "Well, they're taking things… Pretty poorly, I guess," Kazumi says at last. "All that stuff about magic being real, or all the problems their daughter is having… It's not easy for them to wrap their heads around. I don't think they're bad people… Probably not; but they're under a lot of stress. They said some mean things to Niko, but they also apologised to her after I yelled at them. I just… I don't know. I'd like to see Niko and her family reunited and getting along, but it might be a while before any of them are really able to be okay with that."

"Listen," you say. "I'm glad she has someone like you who cares for her." The girl that Kazumi loves has done many horrible things, but if you judged everyone by that standard, how many of you would be left alive to defend this city? Better that she's at least doing something with her time that's worthwhile, that will help your team in the long run. "Make sure she stays strong. We can't afford to have her breaking down on us."

"You know, you make it sound like you care more about how useful she is than about her as a person," Kazumi says. "I hope you didn't mean to come across that way."

"No," you reply. "I just… Don't know her well enough as a person to come across any better. But I know she does good work, and in the absence of knowing anything else about her that's what I have to go on."

It doesn't look like you've fully won Kazumi over to your side with that argument. Not that you can blame her. How would you react if someone you were talking to showed more concern for Madoka's potential as a god than for her as a person? "Anyway, what's next?" Kazumi asks, brushing aside any concerns she might have had towards you in favour of keeping good relations going.

You check the time on your phone. "I had been planning on checking in with Archer once Wakaba Mirai and I were done with our fight," you say. "After that, I suppose checking in with the eggheads wouldn't be a bad idea." While Kazumi giggles to herself over your nickname – "Yeah, but she's my egghead," you hear her say – you reach out with your mind and ask "Archer, how are things going on your end?"

"We're going slow, but steady,"
Archer replies. "We're picking up from where your team left off yesterday, so part of our time out was just spent getting in place. Then Rin wanted to make sure that the anchors she'd set yesterday hadn't been damaged in the attack, and now we're only just starting to move on to setting new anchor points."

"All right. Don't feel like you need to rush through this,"
you say. "It's better to do a thorough job of this than a fast one. Have you checked in with mom at all yet?"

"I haven't. Do you think she needs checking in with? Or do you think that Kirika would have gotten in touch with one of us if something had happened?"

"Probably the latter,"
you say "But, I'm still worried about her, that's all."

"I know, kid. I'm worried about your mom, too."
You try to keep your fears to yourself; you've already lost your mother once, and you aren't sure that you could handle losing your mother a second time. "I'll contact her at some point soon, I promise." You nod your head, though you know Archer can't see you, and he asks "How's everything coming on your end?"

"Kanna Niko is talking with Oriko, Lancer, and Assassin right now,"
you say, knowing that the four of them are still hard at work. "I just got done having a practice match with Wakaba Mirai, so I haven't had the chance to check in with them yet, but I'll do that as soon as we're done talking." Before Archer can ask you how that went, you continue, saying "Wakaba Mirai is… She's doing very well, actually. I was right to think that having Kazumi within range of her Mystic Code was the key. She's… She's actually got a lot of power under the hood, once she's able to draw it out without killing herself."

Archer says "I'm glad you're thinking of ways to make her useful to the team, but I think I'm going to reserve judgement for right now." There's a pause of a few moments on Archer's end, and when he returns, he says to you "I've got to get going now. Rin's getting on my ass and I don't want to be the one holding us up. Stay safe out there, and I'll talk to you later."

"Right. Talk to you later, dad."

You and your father end your telepathic call, and your attention returns to Kazumi. "All right," you say to her. "Let's leave those two alone for a bit and go check on how the eggheads are doing."

[ ] Wat do?

I will be addressing our meeting with the eggheads later; when will depend on whether or not I'm able to get anything done tomorrow. Regardless of whether I am or not, you can expect the meeting to come either the day after Archer checks in with Minako, or, if I'm not able to write enough of Archer checking in with Minako, the same day if I decide to combine the two into a single update. But either way for that, I'm not looking for a whole lot right here, right now. If you have anything you want to add to Homura's meeting with the eggheads, now is the time. It could be as simple as making sure Assassin doesn't want to murder anybody for making her do more work, or it could be as complex as an entire new task you'd like to see addressed that isn't currently.

[X] Plan: A Familiar Sight
-[X] Try to make sure that Aife doesn't kill anyone.
-[X] While you're at it: Homura experimentation!
--[X] Try and see if you can't replicate Hrunting or Caladbolg, since you've gotten down Kanshou and Bakuya. You don't have to replicate the tracking feature or the space-warping, but it would be nice to have a big 'fuck you' option if you come across any enemy that needs a lot of firepower.
--[X] Maybe see if you can use your grief-altering powers to make your own familiars. If this works, you could theoretically create a bulk force with it to deal with any sort of jobber force Sidonia might be pulling out of her rear when the day finally comes, and maybe you can finally work your way back into relevance in combat.

Not sure how much of this would work, but while we're nearing the final day, I thought of some old stuff we were gonna try but decided not to. I was going to see about getting any significant fortifications done, but we're only like, a couple days away. The biggest thing we're gonna get done if we wanna get anything better than the base, following the trends we've seen, is just set up a really strong bounded field, and probably only a mildly significant one.

--[X] Try and see if you can't replicate Hrunting or Caladbolg,

Hahaha, no.

[X] Plan: A Familiar Sight V2.
-[X] Try to make sure that Aife doesn't kill anyone.
-[X] While you're at it: Homura experimentation!
--[X]Practice more with Kanshou and Bakuya. Just because you've gotten handle on summoning them, doesn't mean you're anywhere near adequate enough when it comes to actually using them in combat.

So, question about this. Not that I'm vouching for one vote either way, but
You don't have to replicate the tracking feature or the space-warping, but it would be nice to have a big 'fuck you' option if you come across any enemy that needs a lot of firepower.
Plague is clearly saying that we don't have to replicate their major functions. To me, at least, that implies that we're just replicating the shapes and using their greater mass vs the mass of an arrow to create a heavier projectile whose shape is inspired by what we've seen Archer using (Plague if I'm wrong please correct me on this. This is just the impression that I got from reading your take on the vote). So to that end, it doesn't necessarily seem like it would be impossible, which is why I'm wondering where the "Hahaha, no" comes from.

Even without the space warping nonsense, to my knowledge, Caldebolg is still a proto-Excalibur. That's uh, not the kind of this we want to mess around with in city limits, ya know?

Besides, a seem to recall at the end of the first quest, several characters harping at Homura for trying to come up with fancy new tricks instead of practicing what she already has close to the Wally fight.

Sure the grief familiars might fall under that umbrella, but at least it's not trying to pick up and master an entirely new kind of weapon in only a few days.

Honestly not seeing why we can't do all three, now that I think about it; after all, it only took a single night for Homura to get K&B down with instruction, and she managed to perfectly replicate it due to her abilities; a crash course on Archer's fighting style in general could work here, especially if we're not going for complete replication. And I understand not replicating Caladbolg for safety reasons... but also, I mentioned Hrunting for a reason. It may not be the proto-nuke that Caladbolg is, but it's strong enough to canonically chew four layers off of Rho Aias, and severely injure a majority of Servants in the 5th HGW, not to mention we're doing this with the assumption that Sidonia's going to break the city in half anyways.

There's multiple steps to tracing:
  1. Judging the concept of creation.
  2. Hypothesizing the basic structure.
  3. Duplicating the composition material.

Homura's been shown to be able to brute-force steps 1, 2, 5, and 6 with her element of Love, and using her knowledge of tracing, knows how to do steps 2, 3, and to some extent 4, on her own. I'm trying to basically have her brute-force it without learning the entire process, which will probably take it down more than a few ranks, but should give her the firepower we need. The end result might be the same weapon, but lacking in the same substance. So ultimately, it probably won't be nuke-grade, but it will be a good alternative to the rather milquetoast ice projectiles we've been using so far.

Even without the space warping nonsense, to my knowledge, Caldebolg is still a proto-Excalibur. That's uh, not the kind of this we want to mess around with in city limits, ya know?
Now, my knowledge of Nasuese is limited, but from an historic and linguistic perspective, it's less that the two are the same sword, and more that their names share the same root word, a word which very might have just meant "sword". Or rather, Caladbolg and Caliburn share the same root word, and Excalibur, linguistically, derives from Caliburn, which is why so many people confuse the two. In Nasuese, I imagine this means that the two swords share the same parent, which is a facet of the Nasuese style of worldbuilding that just leaves me completely baffled.
There's multiple steps to tracing:
I know there's multiple steps to Tracing. But if we're specifically not worrying about imbuing our copies with the destructive properties of the originals, then to me that says we're only borrowing the shapes. Now, Homura can't fight with swords, so all borrowing the shapes does is give us a heavier projectile to launch at stuff;

Which is basically what you're saying here. We're borrowing them for their shapes, not their properties. Unless you're somehow expecting us to imbue our reproductions with some of their magical abilities, but not all of them, or at least not the most explode-y abilities. I don't know, but could you clear this part up about just how close you're hoping our reproductions come to the originals?

That said, while we're on the topic of swords, @PlaguePaladin, since your understanding of how to pronounce Irish is better than mine (by which I mean there are fewer Irish in the world who would want you dead for how you pronounce things) how to you pronounce the Claíomh Solais? The only time I've ever heard it pronounced, it was something closer to "Clive Solish" and I have no idea if that's even remotely close to being correct or not.

Nasuverse-wise, if you can copy both the concept, history and the shape behind something at the same time through magic, then you can copy it. Even if partially done, you can still slightly copy it. This is, by the by, why Altering a sword for Archer weakens it significantly; because it loses its shape, the world has a harder time recognizing it as the original thing. Not ordinarily a problem unless you're replicating Noble Phantasms, which are strengthened specifically by being 'the original thing'. If she replicates the form and concept through her brute-forcing, then she's basically got two out of three. Or with her inefficient way of doing it, more like one and a half.

It all has to do with the whole world egg theory thing, so if you need more exposition to be convinced, I can provide.

As far as I know, it's basically pronounced 'cly sola', 'cly' like in 'clyde', and 'sola' as in 'solar'. But given that there's three very different dialects of Irish on top of Scottish versions, just go with whatever the hell you want. And also, it being a 'prototype' Excalibur isn't entirely wrong for what little credit I'll give Nasu. Claíomh Solais isn't a specific sword, but rather an archetypical object in Gaelic myths, like how we use 'phlebtionium' or a 'Big Fucking Sword' in modern day. The common trope was that Claíomh Solais was a sword that shined with light, often given to heroes. In a way, this is basically the archetype of weapon that spawned the modern idea of Excalibur. So if there is a 100% true Claíomh Solais, then Excalibur is a stronger version of it.

No, I think I need less, actually. Tell it to me like I'm a dumb-dumb: Are we making swords that actually go boom, or just swords that look like Hrunting and Caladbolg without being as powerful? That's all I really need to know. Or not, since NMS seems to have disappeared and we're still 2-1 for his version of the vote without them.

I'm still here, just a bit busy with stuff.

Okay, dumb-dumb version: We make swords that actually go boom, but Homura can't recreate them perfectly, so they go boom way less than the actual thing, but still boom the same. IIRC Homura managed to near-faithfully copy Madoka's bow in this chapter with a similar nature and level of power, so I'm fairly sure she can do it and won't need a lot of time to do it. Also, still leaving it up to NMS since we're basically going to be the only two people voting for a while. So if it goes unchanged... yeah, I'm fine with it not going through, honestly. Better than the whole fustercluck that would come from doing a different vote.
