Also, you do have a point of Shards having a nebulous level of technology, and an extremely eclectic knowledge of math, physics, etc. but that doesn't really matter as QA can't bust out the good shit as she believes, incorrectly, that this specific world is a testing world, and thus :Mother: is trying to keep it locked in conflict for as long as possible. As such, QA believes she is not authorized to do more extensive testing of her Friends, and consequently her really good tech. How much the UN can learn from what she has displayed is up in the air as they do have advanced levels of technology thanks to the Valkyries and the Valkyries themselves.
I believe it's worth noting that QA is using the demonstrated capabilities of the UN, and humans in general, to know what she is "allowed" to share. With her pegacorn designs, Symbie and Taylor continued to improve them during QA's sleep as Crafting Club members suggested more advanced alternatives or references.

...QA did get a tiny bit impatient and maybe skip a step or three sometimes, but tinkertech frequently does that so it should be OK, right? :MOTHER: hasn't told her not to, not yet...

Yes, I'm sure that The Crafting Club won't care at all, nor will UN R&D. Nothing could go wrong, at all, ever.

Also, thanks for the clarification of how QA is determining her parameters of acceptable tech.

I'm just imagining one of the crafting club members realizing that claiming they understand or have better tech than whatever QA's using results in QA pulling out better tech and deciding to see how far the rabbit hole goes.

Ah, she's being a bit more careful than that. The discussions have been occurring via an electronic medium, so it's easy to reference/provide papers, examples, etc. Amusing idea tho.

I really hope they can get a hold oh some symbiotic style cores. The results would be fascinating.
And I truly hope they don't. If Nameless gave them another Symbiotic Support Frame, it would quickly break
  • the plot (as they'd no longer need to ensure QA's cooperation so why keep her at an academy when a research position would be way more appropriate?),
  • the current power balance (artificial cores and impeller fields, leading to escalation, leading to Type 0 Class S appearances),
  • the focus on QA as an OCP (because suddenly they could study everything without her),
  • the story (I could easily see QA killing her host body to return to her shard body and put Nameless down for violating the Cycle),
  • and most importantly it would utterly break QA's trust because Nameless would be sharing a Friend against QA's principles and will.

The power balance would not be upset really. A half a dozen new valk cores would not change much, even less so for what seems to be an inferior version. It would lead to a considerable amount of frantic research trying to understand and duplicate them though -not that I expect that to be easy. And without QA maybe not possible. If nothing else the irony of them trying to find out how cores got made for or out of the haunted house, made as a distraction, could be pretty amusing.

If QA had the chance to do more with her powers and think it is OK she won't mind. The chance to give out more friends to potentially deserving hosts would be something she would be happy to do in limited numbers.

They hadn't even managed to make it all the way to the puppy-punting field
Everyone keeps talking about this like it is wildly out of place and purposelessly evil. Am I the only one who remembers QA literally showed off her biological horror weapons last chapter? The puppy-punting field could quite easily be yet another testing facility; this time for determining the effectiveness of their companion weaponization programs. Dogs have long been a preferred choice for animal companions during combat, alongside horses obviously, and testing with puppies has the advantage of a shorter turn around period then waiting for them to fully develop.

Q: What does s Studio Gilgamesh think of ratings?

A: Mongrels!
And if continuing on that lens, in making a joke on 'doujin' oc characters, donut steel. But became memetic...

SG: "FAKERS!" (Cue on a 'ethical' standard. Potentially going Intellectual Property trolls, again... Before eventually making a 'plan' for a "ripoff", to be butchered as an antagonist...)

But then, the ratings soared. The fanarts continued. And if making a joke on "Studio Gilgamesh disregards ratings." Because they'll always make the money. But then, just teasing on 'analogs' to the infamous fanon QAylor in Studio Gilgamesh's works, led to massive surges of profit...

-

But honestly. I'm probably going to let that thought be. 'Least I think of a possible worst case scenario, of Dreamer infecting Studio Gilgamesh, as an "inception" of a dream. Or meddling their concept/creative process to be more "coo~ool~". And it starts giving the executives ideas.

But it'd no doubt if going far ahead enough, 'meta' in a sense of a Umineko conceptual/dreamscape rap battle. Gilgamesh's Studio crying "FAKER!" ... And admitting defeat, before plotting to 'up' the ante with a persistent "thorn", that's... grown, on Gilgamesh. As he's stuck with suddenly buying doujin fan stuff out of the memetic QAylor, messing with their own creative process. To include more "wavy hair", more glasses. More mentally deranged dreamers.

Funny Thought:
QAylor can claim that her rationale for not providing THE best tech she can is due to the higher tech causing astounding amounts of mental corruption (either through memetic hazards or other crazy stuff) which is what caused the untold decades of suffering known as the Hunger Bunker Games.

QAylor can then proudly proclaim she was the only (allegedly) sane person of the population as she was the only person to not have been affected (UNOMI thinks otherwise especially after analyzing her first therapy session).

That, and if there really does turn out to be some assumption of test subjects seemingly getting arbitrarily "disqualified" for gear deemed too dangerous or unfair for whatever reason, sandbagging might legitimately seem responsible and benevolent by that logic... which QA might herself appear to corroborate due to her easily misinterpreted shard-based views on hosts needing to be sufficiently innovative to be optimally productive and not inadvertently wipe themselves out as is discouraged by the parent Entities.

The apparently quite validated notion of the circles in which QA operates involving some legitimate memetic hazards, though, might also complicate matters all the more. Her interaction with the crafting club elicited some weird results; what happens, then, when investigators also might be compromised somehow or confronted with things that just plain don't make sense, such as the corpses offering contradictions of moving despite such probably not being possible... unless it actually is possible, or unprecedented and unconfirmable discoveries like Valkyrie cores being chatty under the right conditions? What happens when the people investigating the bizarre and creepy stuff simply can't trust themselves, their findings, or their perceptions? Perhaps all the more disconcerting, if there really are bodies moving around without apparent cause, maybe it's because there is in fact a genuine cause simply overlooked; what if the bunker facility is still by some degree still active and operational? People might really freak out of "the nameless girl" in her disconnected and disillusion state overlooks details enough for people paying attention to catch things changing on them... except they just as well might be crazy. The very records might themselves mutate and change, too, if their sample of related coding from QA is any measure, in something maybe reminiscent of that Doctor Who episode featuring Weeping Angels. The nameless girl wanted to make what her dreams thought a haunted house, and, well, she kinda succeeded.

Well......I am not even sure how people are going to react to....that.
QAylor walks in on people fighting over wastebaskets to vomit in. She takes one look at the monitor, rewinds the video, and replays it at high speed, frowning the whole time. People in the room freeze and stare at her like she's a bomb about to go off. At the end, after thinking for a bit, she opens her mouth to mutter, "Dreamer, dearest little sister, what the hell did you do?"

Memetic hazards are tricky; because no such thing is known to exist in reality, no-one really knows how to deal with that sort of thing, so you sort of have to make it up as you go along.

Closest thing IRL that I can think of is the McCollough effect, where staring at coloured bars affects the way you perceive colour.

There's enough evidence to suggest that some kinds of memetic hazard should be theoretically possible, but so far no-one has actually created or discovered such a thing.

The coloured bars thing isn't actually a memetic effect though; it's a side-effect of the cones in your eyes wearing out\tiring\being overstimulated and thus losing effectiveness, rather than a true memetic effect.

They are plenty of real world memetic hazards. They just manipulate brains less dramatically and obviously than fictional ones do.
e.g Commercials, slot-machines, horror movies

Ehh, while such things do certainly take advantage of psychology to enhance their effects, I'm not sure I'd qualify them as proper 'memetic hazards', though I agree that they could be argued to technically fit the term.

I'd personally rate them as the precursors to true memetic hazards rather than memetic hazards in and of themselves.

(That said, thinking about it, an entire Casino could probably qualify as a low-level memetic hazard, given how much psychological manipulation goes into designing those.)

Earworms+humming, partisan politics, Monty Python quotes...
Memetic, but not really hazards. :V

I'd argue something like Roko's basilisk or some religious concepts are, admittedly weak, memetic hazards. They induce potentially harmful behaviour and stress with an idea that often encourages its own spread. Though they aren't too difficult to counter with knowledge of how they are constructed. That doesn't proclude a more complex version that is more difficult or impossible to counter.

Should there be a distinction between memetic hazards and cognitohazards? I thought that memes had to spread... or it could be a hazard that has a meme referring to it?

I actually think Queen would miss her if she was gone for good, right now Queen is just enjoying not being near her siblings for the first time in a few million years, a few years of silence and some alone time is not that much in comparison, everyone want their alone time sometimes, and she wasn't here for more than a few months.

Queen wasn't even comfortable with the idea of Broadcast dying.
Im thinking that the fake cores could be construed to be attempts at making artificial cores.
I actually think they will assume those cores are just ritual props, if she tried to sell core making attempt, those aren't anywhere good enough to even give the impression of trying to do it, it is more like trying to make something that look like a core, thus the quartz.
The stuff that Taylor give out as a 'small reward' is likely already behind what the UN can do.
Dreamer is likely aware of what they can do that isn't classified, so she would know what they can easily produce for the masses and give something better, or at least still useful and not trivial.
what with her reliance on biological Friends and the arrogance to think host species cannot pose a threat to her.
They can't, they have no way to reach her true body and any death will just shove her there, after which she can fix her human body or make a new one and go back (she probably won't, but she wasn't in a true danger at any point in the story), the most advance dimensional technology anywhere appear to be Anne's wave thing, and I got the impression that it is as basic as it goes for dimensional tech.
Oh I've got one! At the centre of the facility have it hinted that not everyone was killed in the breakout massacre and that the leadership escaped via dimensional travel but not before they had 'gotten what they needed' from Taylor, and that they would 'return for this world' presumably after they have conquered and converted unsuspecting worlds ill prepared for their assault due to a lack of Valkyrie Cores and Antagonists.

Really get command sweating :p
I am not sure they are even aware dimensional travel is a thing yet, they gave QA dimensional mathematics to solve and were disappointed but not surprised when she couldn't succeed after she succeeded everything else they gave herz I assume that it is Anne's wave thing and they aren't aware of the dimensional part yet, even if they understand the math behind it and that it dies a lot of damage.
And I truly hope they don't. If Nameless gave them another Symbiotic Support Frame, it would quickly break

I don't think you understood, having a core doesn't necessarily mean Taylor is going to give them tinker powers, or that the Friend isn't inherently loyal to Taylor's (as it is her Friend) and through her to QA (who will probably not be angry in Taylor making her own Friends and giving them to hosts like powers).

They already have a bunch of Valkyrie cores, giving them one or two or even a dozen more wouldn't break "the cycle", anyway, : MOTHER : would have mentioned something already if what Taylor did is unacceptable, as some time will pass until Queen will discover what Taylor did.

Higgs particles being used to twist space (specifically the expansion of space) in sims, Valkyrie storage being essentially a pocket sub-dimension, and shifts/teleports. Examples of the humans having dimensional fuckery, and thus being able to figure out, if it's not already known, that travel between different Earths is theoretically possible. Also, if they do understand the math behind wave force, which they do not iirc, then they would be aware of the dimensional part as that's really all physics is: describing the phenomena of the universe and the cause behind them, which can be expressed through math (or to inflict suffering upon students when their teacher doesn't teach).

The cycle is cut short by a forced exit, as the shards are rooted out and destroyed by the natives of this civilized world.
Death would just shove her there yes, but the assertion that host species cannot pose a threat to Entities, and by extension Shards, is false. The Warrior says that the cycle had been disrupted a few times in the beginning by the host species becoming too advanced. I meant more the threat to the host corpus that QA is currently inhabiting, but that may not have been clear, so apologies. Also, if QA is forced back she has just lost a host (Taylor won't be too pleased me thinks), and potential data from conflict, due to underestimating Valkyries. She even directly acknowledges this when she, Anna, and Yukari were on the plane:
The shard-temporarily-turned-human retracted Symbie back into storage and retreated to her seat. It'd been a large number of Cycles since she'd misjudged a possible threat quite so badly, let alone two of them.

A cognitohazard is a thing that hurts your mind if you interact with it. Lovecraftian monsters and areas are often cognitohazards.

A memetic hazard is an idea that hurts your mind if you interact with it. The closest thing I can think of for these bad boys would be PTSD triggers - a soldier hears a car door slam and they're suddenly in Fallujah again.
