There's a big difference between the type of crazy that sets up ritual sacrifices and the type that assembles puppy punting fields. The former is focused, predictable and quite frankly has been seen far too often in human history, the latter typically has lost all connection to reality before they actually manage to implement their plans.
It is obviously an initiation ritual. Those who show even the slightest hesitation are clearly research-assistant material.

The nameless girl guiltily glanced down at her wishlist of horror house attractions and initiated innocent whistling. The sound acquired a layered echo when Symbie noticed and decided to happily join in.
It's almost like "Mystery Horror Theater 3k". For Taylor at least.
What is this I don't even – we aren't even supposed to HAVE blood!
It's a feat when the Core starts freaking.
I can't wait for QAylor to prove that all vakyre cores are aware/intelligent. By talking to it

I expect that the therapist will hear that she was known as Queen Administrator in the bunker. Taylor wants QA to stop pretending to be her.
Only, if that was 'a' case, it'd be a sort of clusterfuck of such Springtime proportions. That well...

CO: "... Hindsight, on second thought. This... Just this Bunker Cult. It's madness, experiments... Is just of the charts. No wonder why Hebert is so fucked up in the head."

Or, if gone too far. She indirectly gives Studio Gilgamesh, "ammunition" to in a certain presentation manner, make QA/ylor more like an Ayanami Rei analog, in eerie creepy ville. Even by Bunker Cult standards. Bonus points if her backstory can be used to make the setting edge even more like Worm, in a certain lens.

In that case, it'd likely get to the point that "Coke Zero" of Harem protagonist, will likely start getting concerned for Taylor, or "Pure-chan". Valkyrie Cores start talking/see concern, get talked back in a stoic manner... And likely then panic/talk more, in being understood.

I will be honest, thank you for reminding me that this is all supposed to be taking place inside of a harem anime show that is subject to influence by the ratings and directorial whims.

For added horror, if going on a "Cycle" reincarnation lens. The 'losers' (dna, brains, assets.) Are in a point of view, constantly "recycled" win or lose. Or eventual death/clensing. That generally leads to 'city block' wide genocide on a regular basis. (If going on Entities represented in 'crystal togas trying for no more heat death/etc incubation excuse plot.')

And then, eventually. It leads to some 'core' egos forming. Like say, QA analog (or "Anne"), and Taylor. Being the next 'host' for an "actual prototype Core/etc", eldritch and all. Then, Worm grade conflict/mutation happens. An 'excuse plot' for being further butchered/experimented upon edge (give or take, a 'speculative' dream fueled 'plot/plan' and scry, on "what would Scion do?") Or meanwhile, in some other crystal toga, there's a family tragedy brewing (hint, MOTHER Dying, FATHER moping/angsting. Then later goes on a pre-emptive purge while an 'UNCLE' goes "Just as planned".)

Rest, can spiral in massacre's, in a meta massacre game. Until snapping happens, "QAylor" massacres, and the escapee's just "bailed out" with hypothetical dimensional jumping tech? With a horrific implication of what that can ensure/etc. (In a "totally not warning that Entity analogs could arrive here, at any time?")

Do it, in a give/take horror mansion, Darkest Dungeon. And at a push, enough bleach that in a certain lens, would be...

Uro Gilgamesh: I have this rad idea, on how to sell edge... Without going edge. (Cue making a grimderp list of war crimes of an adopted Ayanami Rei fanon character, to be even more creepy.)

CEO Editor: "The kids will not enjoy it. Especially the fan boys..."

CEO, after drinking with an Uro Gilgamesh. And being shown doujin by fans over 'multiple eyes' QAylor, going crystaline/"Crystal Core waifu", and romancing/shipped with Valkyrie Cores...

Uro Gilgamesh: "And for added fun and conflict. You can have her be so eerie, she attracts interest from Antagonists. Cue (Edge ideas.)"

CEO Editor: "... At this rate... Actually, given how the fan art is making the fans beg for there to be a 'redeemable' Antagonist... Know what, this might actually, make a plot twist, for more harem comedy antics... I'll tolerate some of this."

And thus, did the initial proposal for "surprise Cosmic Horror" got rejected, again... But fanart on meme's, made it into Eldritch Comedy Harem instead.

EDIT: If anything. I'm probably betting that "Shadow horse" wise, the edge lords at Studio Gilgamesh are so having a field day with Taylor here. They want edge, the "Sunshine" developers/animators put rainbows and friendship on it. So they twist it, they get twisted...

But eh. It's probably going to be the case of "QAylor", or Dreamer if she ain't careful. Or if going meta, sees/notices Studio Gilgamesh having fits over Doujin/fan stories of her. Having to be careful with her tunes, 'least she invites calamities or worse, if going overtly meta.

Nah, I didn't read past the third book. I heard the ending was a gargantuan disappointment and didn't have the heart to corrupt what had been one of my favorite series. And there are legitimate places for symbolism — I've had fun including it here and there in my creations. What irks me is when people use symbolism as a shield against genuinely awful writing; I'm of the opinion that it should be complementary, not a substitute. *glares at Lord of the Flies*

Fun fact: Evangelion's famous religious symbolism? The creators admitted they (originally) just put in religious iconography because it looked cool, and the huge amounts of orange was because they ran out of other colors. That's one of the few places where I actually prefer the overenthusiastic fan interpretations, though...

Actually, human skin is one of the components Taylor didn't use for writing. She used plenty of blood and a little bone, but no skin or organs. That was slightly too squicky for her even if it was all artificial.
I assume this will horrify the team even more since everything else is made from human flesh but for some reason the skin is the only thing missing.

Valk: The chest was made of bones and ligaments, the muscles are used in place of rubber, the text of this book is written in blood, but the Valium pages are just sheep skin. Out of all things, that is the only thing they didn't make from recycled human flesh. We even saw the recycling room, there wasn't anything left over of those that go through it. What did they do with their skin, WHERE IS THEIR SKIN!?

They hadn't even managed to make it all the way to the puppy-punting field, let alone the eldritch church exalting her guest-self's parents.
If they looked up at the ceiling of the eldritch church, they might spot the organically-made and still living mural, of ultimate multi-earth survival champion Taylor Hebert after defeating all opponents in the chambers, pulsating above their heads (any video of the mural then becomes a hazardous memetic video).

Maybe throw in a dash of cultish, pseudo-scientific religious worship of QAylor's birth as the bunker populations' ultimate goal and savior. :ogles: Just some fun thoughts ;)

A tiny alert drew Liz's attention to the composition of the Cores: crystal quartz. The Valkyrie let out an explosive breath of relief.

"The Cores are fake," she said aloud.

Plot twist they aren't XD

That aside nameless girl should leave all like it is if they are going to send drones to search for them heck add more even XD

This could actually work as an end Game

*rubs hands gleefully* Thank you Alivaril, this was better than anything I could have dreamed of! I really appreciate how the nameless girl didn't go with any old generic horror house/cult abomination, but took pains to make it Cycle-specific so that QA would inadvertently help confirm aspects of her past!

A black, rune-covered spike impaled both a deceased Valkyrie no older than sixteen and the now off-white Valkyrie Core that had somehow been forced out of her and broken. Rivers of dried blood from both targets appeared to have been collected at the bottom of the spike and mixed into what looked like either cradles or artificial wombs. Empty ones, mind, but it was the thought that counted and what in God's name were they thinking?

Right, so... With the confirmation that the Cores are artificial, I'm guessing the girls weren't real Valkyries either. Instead, these are clearly meant to be symbolic Valkyries. Valkyries are meant to be the ultimate warriors of earth right? So, what I'm guessing is, this cult went looking for 'ultimate warriors' by engaging in the Cycles seen in the outer layer. Then, once they get a winner, and assuming the winner is not killed for having an arbitrarily 'too dangerous' weapon, then by some mysterious process, one of the 'winners' are chosen to be a "Valkyrie". They get moved to the really nice rooms, get treated with lovely dessert, are honoured and exalted by all the cult members... And then they're possibly surgically implanted with a symbolic "Core" and ritually impaled as a sacrifice to attempt to create/call forth a genuine Core/Valkyrie.

Who knows? Maybe some remaining cult members get to bathe in the cradles and be 'reborn'? Then they get sent off for another round of "Cycles" and maybe there's some observation of if they do better than those cult members who didn't bathe in the blood of the sacrificed "Valkyrie"?

In relation to QA... She seems to be a cult member who somehow managed to find a Valkyrie core, absorbed it, and then refused to give it up to anyone else. They put her through a Cycle, maybe multiple Cycles, and naturally, she 'won' while every other contestant around her probably went into a frenzy trying to take her Core. Or maybe she was a multiple-cycles victor and therefore awarded the Core? Then put through a few more Cycles just to confirm her Core is amazing? Either way, she proves to be the best, and when it comes time to ritually sacrifice her, she goes "fuck that" and murders her way out of the cult. I'm going to guess that might be the "impeller damage" that the team saw.

I'm kind of wondering how they'll explain everyone in QA's cult being dead though... Did she murder her way out between Cycles? As in, just as a Cycle was ending, before a new one began? How did they have so many people to perform weapons test Cycles anyway? Did the majority of the cultists live in the inner areas and only get dispatched to the Cycle areas sections at a time? Is there going to be a section of the inner area where there will be evidence that QA murdered absolutely everyone left? Or did they all just keep killing themselves after QA left until there was genuinely no one left? So many questions! I love speculating about all this nonsense. Definitely looking forward to part two of this insanity.

I would actually really like to hear the description of that "Eldritch church dedicated to guest-self's parents" I figure that would garner some real good reactions.

I don't think the UN will assume Taylor murdered her way out of the complex, given her apparent lack of combat ability at the time. Not when there's a much more obvious suspect.

Consider the UN's perspective on the following:
  • Symbie is all but confirmed to be sentient, or running a full AI
  • Both Taylor and Symbie are protective of one another, to the point that Taylor attacked someone who implied Symbie was defective, while Symbie will allegedly eat anyone else who synchronizes with it
  • The complex where they originated was apparently conducting sadistic bioengineering and weapons research, including deliberate and repeated brain damage to test subjects
  • One of the spots for sacrificial Valkyries, all around Taylor's age, is empty
  • The complex appears to have been subverted from the inside
  • If Symbie is assumed to be the EOOU Intruder, then its Electronic Warfare capabilities are nigh-unprecedented
  • Symbie has an overwhelming surplus of biological material
  • Taylor claims to have woken up in a field outside the bunker with no memory of how she ended up there
That seems to suggest a certain narrative, doesn't it?

Cake? You mean the Cake is a lie? ;)

Oh no, I'm sure they allow the new 'Valkyries' to happily enjoy plenty of cake before they're ritually sacrificed.

I'm also really interested in this! I hope this wasn't retconned away along with the puppy punting field.

I mean, that is clearly a gender struggle metaphor, with the pillar representing masculinity fatally oppressing women.
I'm afraid you have been mistaken, the fact that it was a pillar instead of the old age of the lady speaks of the unknowability of death and the futility of trying to predict how a person will die.

That, or the fact that even weak and feeble people can break through hard obstacles in life with the force of their will, represented in that case by the old lady's face; sometimes it kills you, but a sacrifice is noble indeed.

In any case, my conclusions are obviously right, and yours obviously wrong. I can't even imagine how someone could not understand what I've deducted from the context. *Sighs in narcissistic superiority*

The nameless girl pouted. She'd worked hard on combing through her guest-self's archives to find as many examples of past hosts and opponents as possible. The lack of detailed scans meant they didn't even notice the stuff like super-strength, which was supposed to be a reusable gift.

Re-reading this, I'm rather surprised that the Valkyries didn't notice more mutated corpses ala Case 53s or Bonesaw-esque creations.

Also, it just occurred to me that it seems the Cycles were being fairly even across genders. If all the bodies in a Cycle were young women, the Valkyries would have noticed that right? So maybe the Cycles weren't meant to choose a symbolic Valkyrie after all. Or maybe only female victors were considered worthy of being symbolic Valkyries, and male victors had something else unspeakably horrible happen to them.

... Between this, the very nice rooms, and the possible church to Scion and Eden, it's overall somehow reminding me a lot of the Hunger Games. I think it's the mix of opulence plus barbarity, plus apparent exaltation of the games or Cycles.

Aaand I have just realised that with this revelation of Cycles, and if they ever figure out QA was an observer, perhaps several times over, then her blatant admiration of Anna and admission that she is "relaxing and enjoyable to watch" would become far more creepy. Is Anna relaxing and enjoyable to watch because QA knows that if Anna was her chosen combatant, she'd massacre everyone else and hence be safe to form emotional attachment towards?

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking too. Wow, you're such a perfect killer! Maybe we'll even be friends when we have to fight each other! You might even win. Incredible. Oh wait, that's bad and would have therapists needing therapists. QA might somehow manage to make people trigger before this is all over, as ridiculous as these not entirely wrong misunderstandings are shaping up to be.

Of course one of the best tech upgrades/superweapons has to be in the puppy punting field now, possibly as an integral part of the "experiment". :D
