I was unsure what to use that they couldn't get through so I used that, simply because she was looking in the wrong place. QA naturally assumed that it would be under the R&D section of the files, but it was actually under Expeditionary Operations. So, she concluded that the files were so classified they were kept out of the normal file system rather than that they'd be somewhere else.
Yeah that's about right considering it basically confirms that Hell's Hand is a mockup rather than the real thing. The UNOMI know what QAs comms look like and that they have the energy transmission potential to be a strategic weapon. The quote
@Woodlark14 I thought the natural conclusion would be that they were hiding a bunch of currently-inactive or cloaked Higgs shit for simulation or spatial compression somewhere, personally. What's the more likely conclusion. That they've got a much more highly advanced version of technology that the UN already have the basics of, or that they've cracked dimensional travel?
EDIT: Also, I forgot to say, QA is a Queen shard, so I assumed that her equipment would naturally be larger and more complex than a lesser shard who isn't specialised in that equipment's purpose.
I don't think the theory to parallel worlds exist yet, dimensional travel is close, at least according to QA, but they aren't aware of it yet or theories of her being from another dimension will be a thing at least once.

Exactly my point. They're very unlikely to think that that's the explanation, rather than "They've got advanced compression and simulation tech hidden behind layers of that stealth alloy they have."
I suspect that Q.A. is basically operating on host-rules rather than shard-rules, so she is trying to limit herself to things that seem sensible to her for an empowered host to be doing. Symbie as a symbiotic support frame provides her with capable communications equipment, but not, I think, on the level of a shard that doesn't really care about differences in phyical coordinates. Symbie, of course, has been doing its own thing and grabbing interesting data now and again, which might exceed the parameters, but Q.A. is, I believe, just trusting that such data is acquired through the appropriate methods.
Taylor is the one who has been raiding anything and everything everywhere with not a care as to plausibility, up to and including teleporting a core out of a volcano, but that is right and proper for a shard.
I could very easily be wrong about all of this. My recollection of the story is far from perfect, but I felt it was worth considering that there are three different roles here, and that each may, in practice, have different capabilities. My personal feeling is that Q.A. is a master of software with an insane-but-finite communications suite, as opposed to being a master of hardware.
AN: I intended to just stockpile HH snippets, but this is relevant.
Consciousness pulled at the half-nameless girl like a pushy drunk pawing at his battered wife, and with comparable levels of resigned discomfort. She didn't want to be awake. Life was coarse, irritating, and it got everywhere. Unfortunately, Symbie had made it pretty clear that the nameless girl had to go through rehab.
Not even two months old and Symbie is already guilt-tripping her family for their own good. Speedrun Symbie?
At least the girl didn't need to go back to being wholly human. Oh, she was well within the possible range for humans modified by Valkyrie Cores, but she didn't feel human. Normal humans couldn't jettison their consciousness and observe their surroundings at will. Which was good, because her new puppet-body had been wrapped in blankets and was being transported back toward the entrance of her haunted house. Opening her eyes would be noticed instantly.
The girl cautiously initialized her senses, gagged, and promptly turned off her smell for the foreseeable future. That hadn't seemed half as bad when she was dreaming; she really needed to do something about those perception filters.
<connection?> Symbie queried.
<Viable, unfortunately. Can't I just do what you're doing for socialization?>
<intervention.>
That was fair, the girl had to admit. She really might've gone a little overboard in her attempts to avoid remembering her old life. If Symbie had managed to disable the original recovery-wakeup mechanism so easily, then the nameless girl could've done it even faster. Oh, she still wasn't convinced that she'd be healthier without the flowers, but that was the cost of neglecting a small alien child.
…The nameless girl still didn't want to be awake. Consciousness hadn't seemed half as bad just a few minutes ago, but the girl's new wetware was capable of all the negative emotions that she'd so readily suppressed with black flowers. People were awful and the girl didn't want to deal with them.
"<Just let me sleep forever,>" the girl whined whimpered, then paused as the words were registered by her new ears.
She knew quite well that the communication control mechanisms didn't need to have even the slightest possibility of accidental transmissions. The girl supposed that was one way to force actual social interaction. Or perhaps Symbie was just pointedly leaving Taylor with the same controls she'd neglected to fix for her guest-self.
"Please don't try to make that a reality," promptly said the knight carrying her. "I promise, your life is going to be much better now. We're Valkyries with the UN, okay? We're bringing you somewhere safe and well away from here. You probably shouldn't open your eyes for a while, though."
The nameless girl reflexively opened her eyes, saw the dried blood on the ceiling, and decided to accept the advice. She had the feeling that was deliberate; Valkyries could easily access enough references to know how to avoid triggers for reflexive behavior. Plus, her brain-to-mouth filter was shot and it wouldn't do to say something incriminating.
"With your permission, we can provide a breathing mask for the smell," added the other Valkyrie. "Possibly temporary sedatives as well, if you want them. Do you know if your defenses will react poorly to that?"
"Has anything good ever come of being sedated by armed government employees?" she thought—no, said. She couldn't even blame Symbie for that one. She'd willingly been alone with only her own voice for... months? It felt like months. Verbalizing her thoughts used to be harmless.
<denial,> Symbie refused, and the girl shook her head before either Valkyrie could muster a response.
"'M not allowed to sleep anymore," the girl half-relayed, half-complained. "Not outside normal sleeping hours. Otherwise, I'd love to demand you plug them straight into my veins."
The knight carrying her puppet took a deep breath.
"It is normal sleeping hours," explained the Valkyrie.
The girl blinked and shifted her awareness outside the haunted house. It was definitely dark aboveground. She returned her mind to the puppet and yawned.
<Oh Symbieeee~> she smugly sang.
<reluctance.>
<We did have a deal. Well, no, we had conditions that you imposed, but this does match those conditions.>
<fine.>
"I forgot that time zones existed," the girl admitted aloud. "Fire at will."
She wasn't positive that their sleeping aids would actually accomplish anything, but it being sleeping hours meant that she was allowed to synthesize sedatives which would.
~ ~ ~
>> "So, you caught that time zone bit, right?" <<
>> "Affirmative." <<
>>"ABRAHAM team: Hold the sedatives. Be advised that Type Zero Ogun, also known under the aliases Macross and Decimator, has been spotted en route to your location. ETA on diverting forces is two minutes after Ogun's arrival. We recommend asking Pandora about her resistance to radioactive fallout and rapid acceleration."<<
>> "Worst absentee father ever. Wait, no. Second-worst. My guest-self's dad wins." <<
>>"Also, we have received confirmation that Pandora is perfectly capable of intercepting and decrypting what were once thought to be relatively secure comms."<<
>> "You're the ones spewing wavelengths around for anyone to hear. You didn't even set up monitors to make sure nobody placed receivers between transmission nodes." <<
>>"Pandora, while we're happy that you feel up to mouthing off, we must ask that you keep this channel clear. Lower-priority comms are preferred for idle conversation."<<
I'm sure this little comment won't have people tearing their hair out or any thing given that she's responding to a news of an antagonist coming. How many people are going at least entertain the thought that she was referring to said antagonist. The timing of their coming is suspiciously convenient
Decimater is about to learn what happens when you interrupt a Dreamers retreat from socialization... also Symbie might be looking for an excuse to push his shit in.

Definitly getting those 'moms being a deadbeat again vibes' there.
Was that a WoG post I missed? All I remember us knowing is that its a missile focused design and was deliberately pretending to be a lower power than it actually was.

It always brings a smile to my face when this updates. The social ineptitude of QAylor and Dreamer is just delightful.
Why doesn't BAHHSCQ have more... (fanfic?) fanfic like this? (What do you even call fanfiction of a creative writing board original story?) Would make the wait between updates way easier.

That wasn't it failing to deal with a hacking attempt, that was a "WTF this is so weird." and it decided to investigate it more rather than kill the human.
