As An Eagle Flies (A House Arryn Quest)

We need to be a Knight with a capital 'K'. We are the bastion of what is RIGHT with Andal culture, its redemption in a time where the Seven are an excuse for your actions and not a guiding light. We must hold the faithful to task.
Gonna be pretty hard due to it being Westeros... and well... it being Westeros.

True knightly virtue falls to the wayside for Realpolitik and pragmatism.

Being a true knight might mean sacrificing something that may help keep our lands safe, our armies strong, and our military might and strategy ruthless.

Edit: And also, we might need friends.

.....but there is nothing right with Andal culture?
Are you okay? Do you need a drink as I regale you with the grudges against the Andals once more?

I'll get the whiskey.

Uh... Andel Culture did manage to win in the south, and didn't get to the north because of a geographical barrier that is the neck.

Also I count the Rhynor (before settling and assimilating Westerosi culture), the Ironborn (but their hated by everyone so who really cares) most of the free cities, the dragon lords of Valyria, even the slavers of Slavers Bay hate them due to outlawing slavery and making sure that any slave raid on Westeros is unsuccessful and the slaves are paid for in blood.

But they did introduce Steel onto the continent and the Maesters, an invaluable institution to almost every lord on the continent (if you discount their enormous influence on the geopolitical state of the continent)

Noncanon omake:The Great Kraken (A Quellon Greyjoy Negaverse) By Cyberphilosipher
The Great Kraken (A Quellon Greyjoy Negaverse)

Quellion Greyjoy would one day be known by many names, The Quick, The Just, The Great Kraken and the Tall.

But for now...you were just Quellion Greyjoy. Heir to the Iron Islands and surprisingly for a man with such a title, a decent human being.

But you are a young boy growing up in a world where good men are treated like shit..

------------------------------------------
[X]Meet Greenlander Lords: You read of the sensible leaders of your people and decided you want to be like them...not like Grandpa Dagon the Red Kraken, he ruined everything for Greenlander Relations and Dad lost a hand dealing with it. Rolled:70

Lord Torrhan Forrester looked at you and the massive pile of gold and silver, "SO do we have a deal?" You said looking at the Ironwood Lord's face as he looked at the payment you were offering.

"I don't know...it will take Time and I don't think I have the resorces for your request." He said looking at you.

You decided to make him more cooperative. "Oh well, I guess we'll have to go to the Whitehills then, and see if they have the time and will for a few hands at making ships."

The Door to the hall was closed to prevent you from leaving. "Lets not get hasty Lord Quellon, I just need some time to gather the craftsman, finish the other projects and have a bit of funds build up."

You smiled. "I shall. Good luck."

Reward: Lord Met: Torrahan Forrester Lord of Ironrath.

[X]"Trading Mission"(Astapor):You cannot Legally raid the Seven Kingdoms, however you can and will raid the shit out of Slavers. It's an unwritten rule for the ironborn, Thralls are people, not slaves or at least, thats what dad tells you. Rolled:93

You burned and looted EVERYTHING that city had and partially crashed the economy of Essos.

It was a good day to be an Ironborn.

Reward: +10,000 Gold, Jewels and treasures.

+500 Unsullied spearman.

Slaver's bay economy has taken a hit.

That good feeling of Burning an Essosi city for the Glory of the Drowned god.

[X] Try to make Freinds: You need people, reliable people who actually like you. Rolled:3

No one interests you at all.

Failure.

Well at least you are thinking of marrige.

I Know it was a short update...but look, nothing really happened. Sure you burned down Astapor harder then Dany did, but that is besides the point, Also Ironwood flagship. I know you wanted it and I hope you can pay for it.

...I know that ASOIAF loves to shit all over the concept of a true knight, but it's not like being one is a gargantuan task. In comparison to IRL code of chivalry, it is really simple:
Chivalric code
True knights are supposed to:

  • Be brave and just.
  • Defend the young and innocent, especially women who can not defend themselves.[3][4][5][6]
  • Be cleanly as well as godly.[2]
  • Act with military courtesy: in combat when nobles and knights are taken prisoner, their lives are spared and are often held for ransom.
We can still be a good lord, friend and stay alive if we follow these. Sure, we won't be the "hard men making hard decisions while hard", but quite frankly I never enjoyed that kind of character. I would rather have Arstan be Barristan Selmy than Tywin Lannister.

I never like hard men making hard choices unless the charecter is either, physically, mentally, spiritually or emotionally stunted or broken.

Since Arstan is not broken and can be cosidered young and idealistic, he is not going to be like that.

Oh... So we're doing negaverses and omakes now.

+10 to the rolls.

Alright: There are going to be many social customs that are, and should be repulsive to us. I sure as hell will never want Arstan to become comfortable with them but, here especially, we'll be swimming upriver if we don't want to conform. What I am thinking is that following the good book, being able to quote chapter and verse, would actually give us a fair bit of leeway in dealing with things.

Want to rub shoulders outside your social class? Overlook something that isn't socially acceptable? There will be a verse, or some well documented debate, or someone martyred for just that. The Faith of the Seven was founded in the equivalent of Migration Period Europe and as much from the perspective as a peasant as their lords. As long as you can live up to your ideals and not roll around in swimming pools of dead prostitutes like so many nobles its a really, really potent tool.

If there is something ugly in the book, there will be something else saying the exact opposite thing elsewhere.

We just need to latch onto a Septon that hasn't fallen themselves.

Make of me a subject bound.
Cased in halls and hushed of sound.
On the rack is art in heaven.
Always hitting on all sevens.

By the book.

Why would our own social customs repulse us? We aren't insert character we were born and raised here and we are going to take up their values. There isn't really anything we can do about that due to our father having all authority over our childhood and him probably not wanting a squamish social outcast as an heir.

We are innocent and learning fast. Blindingly fast and, because of this, we are encountering the unfairnesses of the world fresh. Without having been steeped in the shit long enough that it all seems normal to us. Children are always, or usually, a step behind and just absorb things by osmosis. Our setting our own moral boundaries (what is yours is yours and all the power in the world does not change the truth of that) shows that we aren't going with the current here. That is really, really weird but gives me some hope.

And I'm suggesting this to avoid worries of being a social outcast. People usually only pay lipservice to the Faith, liking their vices a little too much or thinking they burned that bridge a long time ago, but its still the ideal... just what most consider an impossible one. Following it more or less just raises eyebrows and a "good on you, boy".

Its a respectable way of not being a dick.

Part 4: The Future
Part 4: The Future

Your father had letters in his hand as you stood before the Falcon Throne. The weirwood chair was a mangled tree, branches and roots twisted and connected before the tree was cut down, fashioned into the throne.

Your father looked more… old sitting on the throne. Spry and young at thirty years when ever he was with you, the throne, and the duty he must follow, seemed to age him by decades. Wisdom flowed through his mind, yet in the shade, his blonde hair seems darker, his eyes dimmer. His entire demeanor was not of a loving father, but of a powerful lord.

It frightened you, no matter why your father was on his throne, that whenever he sat on the throne, whenever he raised his voice to bring the court to attention… to pass judgement.

The man before you was both the same man you always knew, but completely different.

"Lord Arstan… my son." His voice boomed through the hall, as you knelt to him, "Do you know why you are here?"

You looked up and nodded no. "No father."

Your father gave a nod, and with a tiny gesture of his fingers, you stood up, standing tall to him, trying your best to not be intimidated by him. "It is time for you to be fostered…. Do you know what that means?"

You nodded. "You are sending me away?"

Your father nodded. "Yes."

"Why? If I may ask?" You asked.

Your father shook his head. "You wouldn't understand… at least at this moment."

You could see the anger and sadness in his eyes, and you decided it would be best to try not to set off your father.

Where does your father send you:

[]To one of the Bannermen: Your father is sending you to be fostered with one of his Bannerman

[]Outside The Vale: Your father is… sending you outside of the Vale to Foster? What is his plan?

If you choose one of the Bannermen, Where are you fostered?:

[]Lord Royce: Uncle Yohn is going to be teaching you. He's family and Runestone is a place of mystery and excitement. Uncle Yohn also is a master commander and swordsman, so you will not be lacking in those skills. He is also bringing in the Heir of the Waxley's, Corbray's and his own house to be raised under his home. (You will go to your uncle, the Bronze Yohn Royce.)

[]Lord Grafton: Lord Grafton is widely considered your father's most loyal bannerman, and a skilled administrator in his own right, and a decent swordsman,if not a mediocre commander. Gulltown has many strange people and ideas that enter its port. (You will go to Lord Graffton.)

[]Lord Corbray: Your father owes Lord Corbray a favor, and the man certainly not lacking. He is a true believer in the faith, and the Greatest Swordsman in the Vale, however, there are rumors that he is a schemer, and manipulator of everyone he meets.. Your father warns you not to believe a word that the man says, and to always defend yourself in spars. (You go to Lord Corbray)

Outside the Vale: You are being sent outside the Vale.

[]To Riverrun: Your father wants you to foster with the Tully's of Riverrun, and learn to be a lord from Grover Tully. He also has two sons near your age, Hoster, and Brynden.(You will go to Riverrun and Foster under the Tully's

[]To Casterly Rock: Your father made a trade deal with the Rock, and you will be the fosterling of Tytos Lannister. While not an amazing Lord, Tytos is competent at his duties. You will also be with his sons Keaven, Tygertt, Gerion, and daughter Genna. (You will go to Tytos Lannister)

[]To Kings Landing: King Aegon, the fifth of his name, wants to foster the heir of the Vale, to teach you the ways of governing a realm, and to be the companions of young Areys and Rhaella. Steffon Baratheon, and Tywin Lannister will also be joining you, along with Lady Joanna Lanniser, and Nymeria Yronwood.

Need to choose the option if you are going in or outside the Vale.

We should go for a administrative build, there are plenty of fools with swords out there and what the world needs right now is a stable hand making prosperous times.
