All things taken into consideration.... I'm still gonna wait for more information from AN, but in the event it's not forthcoming I'm tentatively switching my vote to

[X] More Powers

[X] Invest towards improved education trait

@Academia Nut Could we have some clarifications on whether or not we might get SHINY with the education trait? Also could you elaborate on the requirements for Grandmaster Psyker?

We've been feeling tempted to use Sorcery. (And at the start, we actually had to roll temptation to not use it. We were in a situation where we thought we were totally fucked and would face a horrible fate by Deldar. And we decided that using Sorcery would have been worse than that.)

As Garlak pointed out, Mirande is Paranoid, and influenced by our paranoia and Dia's.

Until we take time to properly meditate on the knowledge, preferably in a well prepared and warded area just in case, I contend that the temptation will continue and we'll never know what we're dealing with or find peace with being able to suppress it.

If it turns out to be as bad as some fear, maybe she makes a few willpower rolls to face up to it and deny it fully, to stop it bothering us.

The default should be that each option gives a benefit proportional to the benefit we'd get from spending regular actions working towards it. If one choice was for some reason much more effective than usual AN would probably have explicitly told us, since that's obviously very relevant to the voting.
I suspect we want the Eldar Index to deal with the corruption issue rather than the other way around.
We need at least a temporary measure to make copying the index safe, so as to be able to use the index to help devise a more permanent solution.

wow I changed my vote like 30 times while skimming the thread, but basically what I understood was

that it was having a broader basics or increasing our willpower, everyone wants to do both but one person says that increasing basics won't matter because we have time to do it later and education is more important overall and the other agrees that education is important but wants to upgrade our basics before we continue because we already aren't taking advantage of the willpower we have.

so between shoring up or growing stronger.....

I'd prefer to go for something like Telepathy IV and Greater Mind Reading, so we're simply very good at what we're doing, so we don't accidentally transfer contamination.

That's it? Well, OK then.

Kinda useful but kinda boring. Might as well pick up something that'll keep this gravy train rolling.

Yeah thinking further on it... Even if it's 33 additional years on top of the virtual education (Best case scenario), that's... slightly less than 1/9th of the way to the rank above Grandmaster (assuming 20 of our own and 200 virtual, that's 280 to go. 33 is a small dent, although it would hasten us getting grandmaster it wouldn't do so too precipitously).

So... yeah. I'm going to keep my vote in the column of More Powers for sure, at this point.

Is what SSS was saying about the virtual years being an age gating mechanism, and this is just hammering towards clearing the actual levelup correct?

Yes. They are (names are rough guidelines):

Rogue Psyker -1 Diplomacy, +1 Willpower
Sanctioned Psyker -1 Diplomacy, +3 Willpower, +1 Learning
Potent Psyker -1 Diplomacy, +6 Willpower, +2 Learning, +1 Martial, +1 Learning
Primaris Psyker -1 Diplomacy, +9 Willpower, +3 Learning, +2 Martial, +2 Learning

Incidentally, all other learning traits get +1/+2/+3 Willpower for each level beyond the first (to represent their dedication to their studies), which is why the psyker learning traits seem to get extra than normal, I'm swapping in Learning for the Willpower stat gain they would normally get.

Also, there are also level 5 and higher learning traits in this quest, but they are only available if you are very old and the ages required increase on a rough log timeline (100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000, etc.)

Here is what AN said about ages required to learn the later ranks this was much closer to the start of the thread.

You're typically expected to be very old to be able to learn the later tiers. Mirande bypasses the requirement with virtual years of experience due consuming memories of a lord of change.

She currently has 200 of them on top of her current age.

Age determines availability, you then typically have to put actions towards learning it afterwards.

Hm. Perhaps blood grooves (not what they're for, I know) in the Force Sword so that her searing blood can be channeled along the blade... not really necessary given the soul-kill, but cool. And it would add a little something if we ever do fail the roll.

If her blood, being alive and connected to her body, also remained connected to her soul I wonder if it would work as a cut-rate Force connection? Similar to how Daemon blood infects and corrupts - using it as a vector for Mirande to affect others.

It being superheated fire blood precludes subtlety, but if we could, for instance shoot someone with a drop of blood and psychically supercharge it into a ball of warp fire, that could be interesting. May not really require Pyrokinesis either, though I suppose it wouldn't hurt - if it had a "fuel existing fire" power (sounds low level), for instance.

A divination meditation by staring into the burning fire of her own blood, using it to easily etch wards quickly, seeing what it does to Dandriss vegetation...

Damn, I can't believe we forgot to test how her blood works. Something to do later.

This is actually quite clever, and thematically appropriate what with her bending corruption into a weapon of purification at a clear and quantified personal cost. A bit of sorcery, biomancy, or just telekinesis might permit her to form surprise forceweapons on demand, or even armor as well.

So we have found our new waifu, fuck Sam

Did that already. He hit and quit it without so much as a phone call the next day, or the next, or the next 365.

Somebody is going to be spending the rest of their career on polar base guard duty after Mirande is crowned.

The suggestion of weaponising a symptom of warp corruption is still a terrible one that should be dismissed out of hand as begging for trouble. Particularly this one, as it's exceptionally Tzeentchian.

Something I have just realised that we may want to consider when voting here is that Mirande's burning blood may corrupt or destroy any life support tank she's put in, and prevent any surgical intervention.

We may have to buy Biomancy here.

On the education trait, people should consider that if we buy it now, it may be many, many years before we gain any benefit from it. That would make it massively inefficient to invest in it now.

Oh, and a last thought, but have we lost the Paradox Cube?

Until we actually examine and test the blood, we have no idea if it's a benign "your blood catches fire, because warp energy" or "your blood is daemons" effect.

Warp energy is what psykers are made of. Corruption can induce mutation - that doesn't mean the mutations are always capital-c Corrupt and trying to eat our souls.

Warp energy is just about inherently corrupt and corrupting. That's why being a psyker is so incredibly dangerous, and why psykers need to have very strong willpower indeed to resist it and to control the effects so that they don't corrupt those around them, as the enemy Biomancer did to the mutants they manufactured.

Controlled psyker powers are quite different to something like this.

In which case it doesn't matter.

We can use the corrupt blood, because we use corrupt psychic powers and don't intend to stop.

It'll be the same willpower rolls we'd have made anyway - if any.

The very notion of corruption becomes meaningless if we don't distinguish between Active Chaos and Raw Warp Energy.

It's totally different. We were incredibly lucky enough to have the Eldar Index to teach us how to use psyker powers with a degree of safely, as that let us bypass the dangerous stages and let Mirande be taught how to harness warp energy as controlled psyker powers. Mirande knows how to fetter and how to use Willpower to control her psyker abilities. She's no idea whatsoever about how to control whatever it is that's happening with her blood, and isn't making any Willpower rolls related to it.

Even if there were rolls in both cases, the consequence of failure would still probably be very different. Not all situations are created equal.

Chaos is raw warp energy. Simply being around a source of it corrupts people, as is currently happening to produce the surge of mutants in the next generation born on Dandriss.
