If we are so much faster than them... why not just fly circles around em?

Ah, getting the transmat gates.

Evasion Check
"Bring us in as low as possible." Cynric said, sounding a lot more serious than usual. "Open the cargo doors when we're five seconds out, Lily. I want this ship grounded for as short a time as possible, take off the moment I'm back aboard."

Lily nodded, buckling her seat-belt without a word. She probably didn't get everything that was going on, but she wasn't dumb. Just the way he hurried his words and stopped doing that drawn out way of speaking... It was weird hearing the old magician talk like that, but even a kid like her knew that that meant he didn't want to waste time. Him flying off into the elevator was enough for her to know she was right.

"Gods, I can't believe we're doing this." Yú whispered nervously to herself and Lily's connection to the ship let her feel how the feathered woman was shaking in her seat, which made her frown.

'Reaching' out to the woman's computer screen, she pushed an image of her giving the woman a thumbs up. She didn't know if it helped, but she got a smile at least. At the same time that she was doing that, Lily was letting the people in the reactor room know that they'd need to be ready to fly off at max speed after landing and she started helping them prepare. Plotting the best routes for navigation to choose from, monitoring all systems in engineering so she could warn everyone if something looked like it would go wrong, choosing which areas of the shield needed power more and which could be diverted to the gravity drives; math problems were done as soon as she could think them and anything she didn't know how to do on her own was within reach so long as it was on a computer her mind could touch.

If only Aunt Moira would let her do her homework while in her space chair.

Twelve seconds after Cynric had left, Lily 'felt' the ground beneath her through the hyperwave relay. At thirteen seconds she opened the cargo doors and realized that though she'd noticed the elevator moving, it was going up instead of down. Taking control of the ship once Yú chose one of the routes between the tallest of Patch's trees that rose above the rest of the forest, Lily rolled her eyes at how everyone started screaming.

It wasn't like they could feel how she was flipping the ship around and spinning in careful patterns without slowing. If they just stopped looking at the image on the hyperwave then they wouldn't even know anything was happening! The gravity drives and the magic Cynric put everywhere meant that when she made the tower fly completely upside down to drop Cynric out the top, not one hair fell out of place. She was a little disappointed about that since she couldn't fly around in loops and stuff pretending she was on a roller-coaster.

Moving five feet further after her daddy's friend was outside, Lily finished the cartwheel and slammed the spiked bottom of the ship into the ground... bottom shields turned off because she wasn't dumb. Watching little baby kwama running away made her feel a little guilty, but she'd been careful not to hit them or anything else and they were creepy bug things anyway. The way everyone in the bridge was freaking out made her feel much worse, especially since Yú had covered her arms and started crying.

As soon as Cynric was back inside with more of those wooden arches, she pushed the ship back into the air and put it on a path that would carry them higher on the trip over Vale. Drawing back into just her own body to release control, she hopped down out of her seat

"I'm sorry." Lily tried with a bow, not knowing what else to say.

It wasn't like apologizing would make everything better after she'd just scared them all like that without really thinking about it. No, she had thought about it... she just hadn't cared. That was even worse, 'cause she spent a lot of her time with them and their families and she kind of liked Yú! It didn't matter how weird they looked with animal parts that made them look like cartoon characters or that she knew they were safe, she shouldn't have bullied them by scaring them like that. Her daddy would be disappointed in her for acting like that.

She climbed back up and pulled her knees to her chest and rubbed at her eyes trying to stop the tears she felt coming. Crying would just make them forgive her easier when they should be mad at her. When she couldn't make the stupid tiny robots stop pushing water to her eyes when she deserved to be punished, she pushed herself back into the ship to force her body to calm down.

Just in time for a sudden explosion would have thrown her to the floor if she hadn't buckled up again.

A blue beam of energy had cut right through the shields and evaporated a section of the water tank in the walls, which is what caused the blast. More of the wall was destroyed than would have been if there hadn't been water in them, but the beam spread out once it hit the cloud of steam and only destroyed on room... and the walls and floor and ceiling of that room, which turned out to be a gym.

A quick check showed that though they were flying at an upward angle toward cloud cover, the Atlesian ships had angled upward to shoot as her ship passed overhead. More blue lines shot out and she started moving from side to side on their path. She couldn't dodge them all though, feeling how three bedrooms and a cargo room got burned out. Jasmine's room was- Since shield power in that section had dropped by two percent for each hit, some of the attacks' energy had been stopped, but most had ignored it.

The attacks stopped once the ship passed through a cloud, but Lily didn't pull herself back.

---------------------------------

Returning to the bridge minutes after the rocking stopped, You are greeted by an odd display.

The Xcom scientist is berating somebody over the comms about ineffective shielding, which is laughable considering how you're fairly certain he was the one who worked with Trobror to install the kinetic barriers. Unless he means the magnetic shields, but those weren't meant for combat anyway. All around him, the faunus crew members are all in various states from shocked disbelief to catatonia. Most disturbing is Lily, who appears to have spit up on herself while crying, yet her distant gaze and the fact that nobody else is doing their job clearly means she is the one controlling the ship.

A/N: Lily isn't having the best day. Could have had better rolls, but could have had way, way worse. Added crew notes to the ship section of the character sheet, though there's just the one atm.

Well, we have some possible blackmail material for Ironwood if we play it right. Anyway, I am done with this stupid planet's penchant for idiotic plans.

[X] Continue on toward Mountain Glenn and land for repairs.

Lets stop Winter from becomming Kwarma chow.

So, what's the damage? To the ship, and to the crew.

A gym, a few living quarters, and a cargo room?

What would it take to improve the shielding to the point the first shot doesn't breach the hull?

a few living quarters

One of which housed a family of four, Jasmine, one of the few children that didn't make fun of Lily, among them.

Shield technology that actually protects against energy weapons would be the first step.

Cindric my hero. Lolol, did I read this right? The people in the ship told her to cease with her evasive maneuvers? lolololol Or more like made her cry and apologize and as a consequence stop dodging. I feel like the people are going to blame her for both scaring them and than later getting hit. Tho it's all their fault.

On reflection, making an unmatured mind into an AI is pretty brilliant.

Repairs don't seem very necessary since the damage was non-critical, but our crew's pretty rattled so it'll do good to give them a bit to cool down.

Welp, As expected, the Mass Effect shields can't stop energy beams. Worse though is how Lily feels so bad even when she did very good. For that alone I would be more in favor to shoot the Atlesian ships the next time.

Minimal damage means the objective of placing Gates over the cities of the world is still doable.

Yup. I don't know how background rolls are done, but at least in-quest it was clear that Lily slowed down and stopped dodging only due to Faunus screaming. I for one am VERY thankful that the Moira plan to plug in people for ship controls didn't win. There's no way to trust them with important ship controls if they're like this.

At least this one can learn and grow, especially with a caring parent that should cheer her back up and explain what she did wrong and how to do better next time; namely ignore all the panicking idiots who don't know what they're doing. The ship even had advanced gravity tech to ensure they didn't feel a thing when moving evasively, so maybe next time she should just cut off their screams screens to prevent them from even knowing there is something to panic about in the first place.

If only if there were a way to automatically cast Calm onto the ship's bridge to ensure no one can panic at all for battle situations...

Two-Fold Chastisement
Picking up speed as Lily carries the ship on its current heading, you turn to the bridge crew. Clearly the child is in a less than optimal state to be piloting and yet it wouldn't be necessary if the others were capable of doing their jobs.

Walking over to navigation, you snap your fingers in front of the feathered faunus' face. "What is your name?"

"Yú... Tiānkōng Yú." She answers slowly, blinking up at you with enlarged pupils.

"Your name is you?" At her nod, you give her a speculative once over to check for signs of head trauma, but find nothing and move on, "Tiānkōng, then. That aside, why are you not in control of the ship?"

"I..." You wait patiently for several moments, but other than working her jaw up and down and casting a glance toward Lily, she doesn't answer.

Snapping once again to regain her attention, you call upon her drifting gaze. "Yes, Lily is doing an admirable job in your stead, which is precisely the problem. Miss Tiānkōng, this is the task you claimed to be most suited for, is it not?"

"Y-yes, but-"

"The child's ability to connect with the ship is meant for emergencies and judging by her current appearance, this process is clearly taxing on her." You say, cutting off her excuses. "If you cannot perform your chosen duties, I will find someone who can."

"No! I can do better, I promise!" She declares desperately, but your attention is no longer on her, the orange wire-frame image on her console showing a trio of aircraft circling Mountain Glenn as your ship crosses the mountain range.

-----------------------------------------

Bullheads remaining on station, Winter used them to relay footage of her surroundings via Lachs' helmet camera. The compiled footage would be sent to General Ironwood the moment their return trip brought them within range for direct data transmission.

Once more Winter cursed the Valean incompetents for their failure to protect such a vital structure as the CCT tower, making even a reunite reconnaissance mission needlessly difficult.

The tunnel was both wide and tall while remaining surprisingly intact given years of abandonment. While yes, some of that could have been repair work done by the White Fang in preparation for their dastardly attempt to breach Vale's defenses, still other spots appeared patched over by a strange waxy substance. The pale yellow-brown material was similar in appearance to the large arthropod they'd found at the collapsed wall, further cementing the notion that there were more of the creatures down there.

Whether it was trying to seal the hole or make an entrance, the unidentified bug bore investigating, so the Specialist now found herself leaving all but two of her men to continue the search for the unknown airship's point of origin. Tech Sergeant Lachs was capable and she had no qualms about taking him with her, but the squad's new red striped demolitions expert was far too undisciplined for her tastes. His incessant chatter and nervous glances toward each shadow bespoke inexperience in the field that would see him dead or dismissed from service in a year if not corrected.

"Control yourself, Lieutenant Braun." Winter bit out harshly, making him flinch. She would have continued, but a sudden crackle came from the signal booster Lachs was tasked with carrying.

Stopping, the Tech Sergeant set the communications device down and performed some arcane maneuver the TacPad on his wrist, smoothing the static into recognizable language. "-on return approach! Repeat: unknown airship on return approach!"

Better stop before we keep escalating the situation. Laughing at the crises that come up might be fun and all, but I don't think we need a repeat of the Moon situation. If we do that, we'll just keep wasting and burning through worlds until either PieceThruWar doesn't have any new ones that are interesting enough to add or all that remains are the more boring ones

I don't get why people wanted to return here when they should've known that Winter was investigating the spot in the previous updates. With that being said, regardless of why and how things have gotten to this point, the primary mine does need to remain a secret. Otherwise the entire homebase on this world is exposed, and safety, secrecy and source of income, AKA the values of this world, would be lost anyways.
