I'm enjoying Cattleya PoV more then I thought I would (even though I was kinda disappointed in not seeing how Tsun and Blake are doing).

We've still got interesting stuff going on Cattleya's PoV right now, and I think it's better on-screen.

"That's absurd!" Cattleya laughed right back, losing herself to a fit of giggles at the affronted look on Will's face. "Why in the world would I debase myself by fornicating with someone like you?"
Cattleya, when you phrase it this way, it sounds like you would be willing to debase yourself with someone not like him.

[x] Struggle to remain composed, Belladonna or not, you've come for a reason and this woman the wife of the local ruler... not that anyone had the decency to inform you that Blake was of royal blood like you and Louise.

I'm definitely enjoying the random world building, it makes it feel less empty. Things are happening outside our view. Although being a dying world, maybe it should feel empty? The continuation of drawing inspiration from myths/fairy tales is cool too.

Kali Ma
"Can I help you?" Kali asked the pair standing on her doorstep. One of them looked young enough to be her daughter, not that Blake was ever as timid as the girl before her looked, shaking like a leaf. What was she doing out of school?

"I-I uh... We... we were just..." The bowing child stuttered nervously, looking to her older looking friend for help, but the young woman appeared to be in shock.

Despite her husband being the Chieftain of Menagerie, it wasn't everyday Kali received visitors, but that was no reason to let the poor dears inside to talk about their problem. "I was just making tea, would you like some?"

"T-that-"

"We would be honored." The pink haired one accepted, walking inside as Kali held the door.

As the young woman passed so close by though, she caught the scent of something... wrong. It wasn't the scent of sickness, not exactly, she thought as she ushered the pair to the sitting room and hurried into the kitchen. Maybe it was the fact that the woman was clearly dressed as a huntress, the ursa skull was a pretty clear indication of such, but just the memory of the odd smell set her on edge as she retrieved the whistling kettle from the stove and grabbed a trio of cups.

Walking back out and pouring a cup for each of them, Kali asked with a hint of nerves, "What brings the two of you here?"

"Allow me to introduce myself, Mrs. Belladonna." The pink haired one said, reaching for her cup and taking a sip. "My name is Cattleya Yvette La Baume Le Blanc de La Fontaine, but I also accept Vallière as that is my father's house and what my darling sister goes by. My companion is Patypata Perse."

"Oh, well... that's quite a mouthful." Kali floundered for a response. If it hadn't been obvious before that she wasn't dealing with a local, it would be now. Nobody she'd ever met or heard of had such a flowery name.

"It is, but just Cattleya will do if you'd prefer. Not to be rude, but I actually came to speak with your husband."

"I thought that might be the case. I'm sorry to disappoint, but he's meeting with the Albain brothers right now about a Grimm attack in the next town over. Maybe I can help?"

Rather than look upset, Cattleya smiled. "I would appreciate anything you can offer. We're... Sorry, but before that I have to be sure, are you Blake's mother?"

Kali felt her heart skip a beat. She hadn't heard wrong, had she? "Did you say Blake? You know my daughter?"

"Of course I do, she worked for me for a month or so."

"Why would my baby work for a Huntress?"

"Um... Lady Belladonna, she's not a Huntress." The younger one, Patypata said nervously.

Well if she wasn't a Huntress, then the Grimm mask could only mean one thing. "So you're with the White Fang? That explains how you know Blake, but I don't remember you being a part of Adam's group."

"No... neither of us are White Fang members." The sheep faunus admitted, giving her cheerful and mysterious companion a guilty look. "Cattleya isn't even a faunus."

"So... I'm not sure what's going on then. How exactly did my Blake work for you?"

Cattleya pulled a metal tin out of her pocket and opened it to reveal green gel. "General labor, really. I'm part owner of Kwama Korps, a food company, and we opened out first storefront in Vale. Paty here is one of our waitresses."

So Blake left the White Fang and got a job in Vale? That was a relief, really it was, considering who she'd left with, but why didn't she come home? Why hadn't she called? Why did it take her employer coming all the way to Menagerie for her mother to find out?!

Rather than voice any of that to the young woman who, despite having an unnerving scent, had delivered such good news, Kali asked, "Why does a businesswoman wear an Ursa skull?"

"Oh, that's to help me control myself when I turn into a bear." The pink haired woman answered with a smile, as if she hadn't just said something completely bizarre.

If it was a joke, they were both in on it, because Patypata appeared absolutely horrified at the admission. "Cattleya!"

"What? She asked!"

"That would explain the odd smell, I suppose." Kali said with a sip, writing it off as a Semblance or something. "You said she 'worked' for you, past tense. So what is my daughter up to now?"

"She's attending Beacon with my little sister! They've combined their teams and one other to form a group- Oh, can I take a photograph with you to send them?!"

Smiling behind her cup, the mother shrugged. "I don't see why not, as long as I get my daughter's scroll number in return."

"Deal!" Cattleya cheered, pulling herself around the table and throwing her scroll to her employee.

Patypata looked like she was going to protest, but complied after a glare from her boss. Kali returned the young woman's one armed hug and grinned victoriously for the picture that would be sent to her daughter.

---------------------------------------

With the last day of the weekend having been spent locked in a room aboard an Atlesian warship, Blake wasn't in the best mood as she sat through Port's lecture. It was another blathering story about how he had 'heroically saved my good friend Nicolas from a hail of Nevermore quills with nothing but grit, manliness, and my trusty blunderbuss! Haha!' and then he'd thrown a flirtatious wink at Yang. The man was completely nauseating.

How could Ozpin hire such an disgusting fraud?

Then again, it wasn't like Ozpin was any better from what they'd all learned recently. The man was a liar, a manipulator, and a completely unrepentant bastard. He hadn't even said anything to them when they'd been marched off Ironwood's ship in front of him once the General was done interrogating them. Not a word for their health or in their defense.

Unlike Ozpin, Ironwood had a reasonable excuse for what he did, since they'd all learned military secrets and Louise might have damaged Penny. That didn't help the fact that Blake felt certain him and his personnel, including Weiss' sister of all people, were judging her for her ears. He at least acted professional despite whatever his personal thoughts toward her were, so he wasn't the worst.

It wasn't even that she was really upset about being locked in that room either. Tsun had actually spoken to her! That was unprecedented and no matter how much she felt he deserved better than her, she couldn't help but want to rub that fact in everyone's face. Nobody else had gotten a peep out of him, but he'd broken his silence to cheer her up! Sure, she'd screwed it up and spooked him by just staring in shock, but it still counted.

Feeling a phantom sensation on the top of her head. Cool, gentle fingers ghosting across the base of her faunus ears. Soft scratching at her scalp that sent a shiver down her spine. A sense of loss as he pulled away.

Blake put her head on the desk and buried herself in her arms to hide her growing blush. Port's class was definitely not the place to be thinking about that!

A vibrating noise made her look over to see Yang pulling out her scroll and swiping. Sucking in a breath, she whispered gleefully, "Hey, Blakie."

The blonde's expression took on a predatory nature as she turned to meet Blake's eyes and slowly rotated her scroll. There was an urge to look away, to avoid seeing whatever could produce such a face from the brawler, but morbid curiosity won out. There on the small screen was a picture of Cattleya of all people, smiling back at her. Her first thought was that the pinkette had sent a picture of the two of them at Kwama Korp, but no. It was much, much worse.

"Oh gods, what? Why?! How?!" She didn't even care that she was shouting, this was a complete disaster!

---------------------------------------

Listening to Cattleya try to act professional was incredibly endearing and Kali had to resist cooing. It was impossible not to see her for the innocent child she was, despite her age and appearance. The young woman had just been so excited over a picture and a hug, yet here she was doing her best to be serious, the precious thing. It was unlikely she would appreciate hearing any of that though, so the cat faunus held her tongue and listened until she had the gist of the girls' goal.

Standing, she went into the study and grabbed a map of the island. It wasn't completely accurate, but then again, no maps outside of Solitas were... and if Menagerie's maps were less detailed than the other countries', that wasn't a reflection of skill or drive. None of the other countries had as many dangers and their populations were far larger.

Pointing to the center of the Glass Wastes, Kali explained, "We don't have records of any civilization on Menagerie before the war, not even Mistral felt it was worth the effort to cross Grimm infested seas for an island that's more than two desert. We also haven't fully explored the island due to both the Grimm and the environment on the other side of the mountains being deadly. There are legends of a brass tower somewhere in the center, but nobody has ever proven it wasn't a mirage and most who try never come back. You aren't really thinking of going out there, are you?"

"We are and we will find it if it exists." Cattleya declared, nothing but confidence in her voice. "

"Assuming you can make it through the Apathy and Manticores in the mountains, flocks of Sphinxes above the wastes, and Deathstalkers of all sizes roaming the ground." Kali pointed out, hoping they'd see reason. "Just the desert itself is dangerous enough, it's nothing but a barren expanse of sun baked earth and jagged glass!"

"So we go by boat to avoid the mountains?"

"Feilong, Leviathans, and who knows what else in the ocean; Karkinos along the shores if you make it that far off the shallower trade routes."

Visibly sweating, Patypata was the exact opposite of her employer's collected visage. "I-I don't even have my Aura unlocked."

"I can go by myself, Paty. Just stay here or return to the inn until I come back." Cattleya replied with a gentle smile. "That was my plan from the beginning, after all."

"How can you be so sure about this?" Kali questioned the young woman, getting that same smile directed her way as her unexpected guest picked up the book on local Grimm, slid a stack of ten thousand lien across the table, and stood to leave.

"Because I'm a Vallière and a Vallière doesn't accept failure."

She is a water mage so the best path is using the water. Also the golem is 1500 mp, the air travel is 25 mp, while a patch of ice is only 10 mp so unless the ice generated is minuscule she should use less traveling this way.

It's been a long time since I saw RWBY Season 4... did she part with her parents on bad terms, or why would she react so strongly?

A perfectly good way of crossing the desert. It can carry our provisions, too. Can Cattleya conjure water with her magic? That's 70% of supplies off our back.

...do Scrolls work in the desert? We should probably think of some way out should we get stuck. It shouldn't be a problem when you can just be summoned, the problem is to send out a distress signal.

Should've taught her Recall at one point. Maybe Louise will do it eventually.

Gahahhahaha, get wrecked Blackie!

Part of me wants to switch back to Louise so we can grab our buddies and new friends the Atlas military and go visit Menagerie. What could go wrong?

Water Grimm scare the shit out of me, it's like all the worst levels of super Mario 64. Their size dwarfs most other Grimm and they can shoot pressurized water. Maybe staying on the shore will keep them away?

Don't quote me on this, but I'm fairly certain Blackie ran away from home around 13 to peacefully protest in Atlas, then joined Sienna's whitefang with Adam. Fanfiction has muddled my RWBY knowledge.

On an unrelated note, I loved that bit of characterization. Kali sees her as a wide-eyed innocent child, while Cattleya sees her as a big fluffy talking cat. Both would be pretty scandalized if they were to hear one another.

It reminds so much of Louise's and Blake's first meeting... with the notable exception of Louise eventually managing to break past the first impressions, something that would be unlikely in Cattleya's case as she would move on soon. It's ironic to see the younger sister who'd been through Hell and back (and is halfway towards Cynric's level of sociopathy) more people-sensitive than the elder one.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Back it up! Let's not get too crazy, here. She's like a quarter. At most.

Cynric still has much to teach her.:p

This is a much more Louise reaction and not at all how Catlya acts. I feel like Catlya hasn't cared for royalty so far, considering the past experiences and lack of.

So, what of unlocking the pets Aura and taking her along? After all ~ that was her only complaint

1: She argued with her parents and called them cowards for abandoning the fight, ran away with a boy who embodied everything her father didn't want his people to become, and helped convince others to join the guy who spit in the face of Ghira's life's work with the White Fang.

2: Yes, she can.

3: No, scroll signal isn't the best even in the Capital of Menagerie and the lack of a CCT tower on the island means the uninhabitable areas are dead zones.

she isn't hung up on it like her sister, but she still 'knows' that royalty are superior and should be treated with courtesy. Animal royalty is kind of a murky subject for her though.

As for unlocking Paty's Aura, Cattleya has no idea how and doesn't even have her own unlocked. Even if she got someone else to do it, Path has no training or Louise's innate talents/abilities. Do you want Cattleya to watch her new pet die?

All it'd take is to ask the big bear in the throne room, wouldn't it? The obvious answers to problems sometimes are so far out of reach.
Thank you for clearing some things up. :)

A Tropical Paradise, This Is Not
Down a quarter of the lien she left Vale with, Cattleya adjusted her new canteen and backpack as she headed to the edge of town. The small bag was filled with her two remaining tins of Scrib jelly, a pound of Scrib jerky, and some dried fish bought by a fish faunus at the marketplace... which now that she thought about it, she hoped the aquatic woman hadn't just sold her a relative.

"You sure about this?" A male voice asked as she passed a shadowed alleyway. "This is good stuff, by the way."

Pausing, the pinkette saw the same copper haired faunus from the day before. He was leaning against a wall while dipping a cracker in a suspiciously familiar tin. Checking her pack, she found both of hers still inside, so maybe he'd purchased his own somehow. If so, Cynric sure was being quick about expanding their business to make shipments across the world already.

"Feel free to buy more." She replied with disinterest. Resuming her walk and hearing his footsteps fall in behind her, Cattleya asked, "Is there a reason you're following me?"

"Just concerned you might be walking into something you're not prepared for."

Sighing, the pinkette stepped out of the Northern gate and into the bushes. "That's nice of you, but I'm not worried."

"Yeah, I s'pose you wouldn't be, what with being a Grimm and all."

Pinching the bridge of her nose, Cattleya didn't respond as she wondered why everyone kept assuming that even when she denied it. Were these people too stupid to understand her words? Tempting as it was to transform and show him the difference between herself and the bear Grimm they all confused her with, she didn't want to waste the time and just started walking faster until she couldn't hear him following anymore.

She could almost understand why that wolf faunus had been so irritable if the woman had to put up with him all the time. She didn't know if he was being intentionally abrasive toward her for some reason or just willfully ignorant, but she'd rather be alone in than wilderness than with him.

It was a shame that Paty couldn't come along, but it was for the best. The sheep-girl was without Aura to protect her, spells of any type, or even basic fighting skills. Cattleya wasn't the kind of person who could condone using a pet as a distraction, which meant she would have to divide her attention between fighting and protecting Paty. No, taking a magic-less animal into danger was just cruel and irresponsible and she wouldn't do it.

Hopefully nothing bad happened to the girl while she was gone.

---------------------------------

Three hours of walking later, the strange broad-leaved trees came to an abrupt end. A slightly rocky beach was before her now and if she was correct, she had just walked across the upper tail-fin of the fish-shaped landmass. All she needed to do was walk with the water to her left and she knew she would reach the mountains.

----------------------------------

Tiny white crabs nipped at her ankles until she kicked them out into the ocean, their murderous red eye-stalks preventing her from feeling any remorse. She'd had a pet crab before and thought it was cute, the way its little mouth parts nibbled at the bread she fed it, but these bleached things were not cute at all. They were way more aggressive than she thought was normal for crabs and some of them were almost as big as her head. At one point she saw the little demon crabs tearing apart a small body before they chased after her!

Other than that though, the walk was relatively peaceful until she reached the cliffs along the mountain coast.

It was while she was carefully sliding her way across a field of frozen sea water that she heard a distant, echoing scream that froze her as solidly in her tracks as the water beneath her feet. Even at the vast distance between her and whatever it was, the sound seemed to pierce her heart. Shrill, numerous, and inhuman. Whatever had made the noise, Cattleya had no desire to meet it and when she looked up at the mountains to see a shifting black mass of dots wandering a remote slope, the feeling intensified.

Driven to put more space between her and those things, the pinkette abandoned her current strategy. It was too slow and there was no way she was going to risk staying in the area any longer than necessary. Rather than freeze all the water along her path, she started to freeze patches every so often and used her Levitation enchantment to leap between them. While just flying low the whole way would be faster and avoid alerting the Manticores Kali had warned her of, she wasn't so far gone to her fear that she would leave herself entirely exposed to whatever could be in the waters below.

The screams continued at even intervals, pounding away at her composure despite the fact that the source was actually traveling further away from her. Heart thumping madly, the pinkette felt her teeth starting to grow in response to her distress. The beast within her soul was demanding freedom to kill the cause of her discomfort. Transforming was the last thing she needed at that moment, it would destroy her enchanted clothes and drop her into the water, so she forced it back as best she could.

Pain was something Cattleya was growing used to, the pain of bones breaking every time she shifted forms, the tearing of skin as she grew too big for her body. That didn't mean it was any more pleasant and stopping herself from changing was just as painful. If anything, it was worse, since the changes would start, stop, and start again.

Flying in close to the cliff, she landed on a somewhat flat stone that rose from the sea and froze the water around it to take a break. She was almost half-way to the other side of the mountain range from what she could see; she could afford a few minutes to calm her nerves, deal with the pain, and fill her belly. Almost immediately a few of those crabs clambered up out onto the ice, but she easily sent them skipping back into the depths when they approached. Taking out a hunk of hopefully-not-faunus fish, the pinkette ate and tried to ignore the terrifying screeching that was slowly growing more distant as the sun started it's descent.

Her reprieve was short lived as a bone white claw larger than her torso shot up out of the water and snapped a chunk of ice from her platform. Red lines like on her mask and coat stretched along the appendage and as the water swelled and fell away, the things body was revealed to have the same markings. On semi-armored stalks as long as Cattleya was tall, the monster's eyes were glassy black orbs with a core of yellow light pointed right at her.

A/N: Good choice in avoiding the mountains, Cattleya is nowhere near prepared to face the Apathy without going werebear and even then it isn't a guaranteed win. She's lucky that she's far enough away where all she's getting from the screams is primal fear rather than actually being affected by their ability. Now you have to deal with a medium sized Karkinos that her fear attracted though. Cattleya can die in this fight and any big fights coming up, so think carefully and remember to use her Character sheet to plan.

Cattleya has no other way to fight using magic. I doubt water whip could do the deed. It is also nice to have Cattleya finally have proper combat experience (even though golem would make it second hand)

Meh if she dies I'll just stop reading for another couple dozen updates like I did when the wards were being killed for science back in worm...

I mean don't get me wrong I'll be pissed if she dies, but it's not the end of the world when the mc is a accomplished conjurer/necromancer...

Hmm. I'm a little leery about spending over half our remaining magicka on a golem, but I get the feeling that panicking and fleeing will only attract more Grimm, some of which might actually be able to hit us in the air.

How strong is our Water Whip? Do Crumble or Sleep have any effect on Grimm?
