Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

BEDREST
You take a long sip of your soup as Una wiggles her way onto your lap, pushing her head into your chin until you give her attention. Morgan chuckles slightly at her behaviour, but seems content to watch for now. "Una, I'm here."

She nods slightly as she hugs you, before she mumbles up at you. "You were hurt."

You sigh slightly, setting your mug aside so that you can run your hands through her hair. "I was, but I got better."

She just hugs you tighter. "You almost died." It's only now that you notice she's carefully avoiding touching your stomach. You send Morgan a sharp gaze, but she stares back with an unhappy look on her face. She didn't need to know. You mouth the words to Morgan over Una's head, but she shakes her head and remains silent. You frown at her, but Una's presence means you can't say anything, so you go back to gently brushing her hair.

When she's calmed down enough to stop gripping you tight enough to make your bones creak, you gently sit her up and look at her. "I came back, just like I promised."

She frowns slightly at you, but nods slowly, gently settling down to rest her head on your lap. Haaaaa... You turn your eyes to Morgan, reclaiming your slightly colder soup. "Did anything else happen while I was gone?"

She shakes her head and leans back slightly. "Not really, your team made it back fine, not even any injuries because of you." Her eyebrows crease slightly at that, but she continues speaking. "We are keeping the place on watch, but it's been quiet so far. Apart from that, Daiyu has started training so she can go out, she'll make an excellent sparring partner from what I've seen. She knows how to handle a sword." Mmm? Seeing your interest, she goes into more detail. "She already knew how to use a sword. Well, not the sword and shield she has, but it's apparently close enough. The only spell she's shown us so far is a barrier, but it's very strong. Her armour is pretty tough, but she's not as fast as you are." She tilts her head slightly. "Honestly, it looks like the two of you were supposed to have appeared together in a Duo, but didn't for whatever reason."

You blink at that, furrowing your brow at the thought. "Huh, that's... Yeah." You nod. "I should spar with her properly."

Morgan gives you a sharp look from where she sits. "Not today you aren't. You are going to stay in bed and rest."

You pout a little, but nod at her words. A day to just laze around after the clusterfuck that was the last mission... That sounded heavenly. You close your eyes as you hear Morgan pick up her book, apparently having decided to make sure you weren't going anywhere.

/LINE BREAK\

The rest of the day passed quickly, most of it you napped away, the rest you spent quietly chatting with Una or Morgan.

When you woke in the morning, after a short three hour rest, you almost jumped out of bed. You promptly fell on your face, legs completely dead from the day of lying down, but it was progress. You stood, stretching your arms as you had a quick bath, sliding into your clothes as you greet a half-dressed Morgan. You roll your eyes slightly, deliberately avoiding looking at her and tell her to get dressed. She pouts a little at your non-reaction, but does as you say. Good thing she can't watch my eyes from behind...

Alright... Anyone want to make bets? Between this little tidbit and her reaction to us getting hurt last update, my money's on Morgan/Cerys being an item of at least some kind within say... Six months in-story on the outside?

In seriousness though, I think we should definitely train with Daiyu a bit, maybe visit the soldiers (see if we can bring something nice for the guys that saved us from the wraiths?) and spend a little time working on our flight?

The ship is strong in this one.

[ ] Train with Daiyu

Beyond this...

Create mind/soul defense spell?
Create ZOMG+ damage spell?
spend time with best sister?
Wrestle with the psychological trauma of killing someone and almost dying before it becomes a problem?
Read books?
Get a magic teacher?
Practice swording?
Get some magic gear?
Make some magic gear?
Get in contact with land spirit?

Oh yeah.
From here onwards for the rest of the story, every chapter will have a one hour moratorium.

EDIT: I need to not be Ninja'd

Sooo, nobody other than Naron really commented on my proto plan? I'd like some opinions on it please. Would help me improve it.

-Train with Daiyu
-Reserve a training area, preferably a large one with protective and containment measures just in case. You want to be able to show what you can do and see what Daiyu's capable of in a safe space
-Start off by demonstrating your transformation and weapon to Daiyu. Push your magic into your sword and armor for to activate the plasma and demonstrate Infinity Edge's cutting prowess on an available target (target dummy, boulder, maybe a statue that you make), also demonstrate your ability to levitate your sword and make multiple copies of it.
-Ask Daiyu to show you her transformation and weapon. Ask her what she can do with it (any special features? Magical enhancements like the plasma on Infinity Edge?), how durable is it (does it break like Infinity Edge?), can she summon it back to her or does she make a new weapon like you do?
-Show her your magic. Use Thermal Control to increase and decrease the surrounding temperature, create ice sculptures and melt them with fire. Destroy target dummies (alternatively ice statues) with Thermal Spear, demonstrate Halt and Push using an ice statue. Tell her to stand back and use your Ignition Aura. Just show her what you can do.
-Don't use Plasma Sphere or Alpha and Omega, but explain what they do anyway.
-Ask her if she has any abilities and moves similar to what you showed her? Talk to her about magic and what you can do with it, about how it's personal, and show her some of the more general abilities you think she could pick up. Regeneration, Reinforcement and Flight. Don't tell her how you do it, but just show her the kinds of things she could do and guide her on her task of learning spells and abilities like that.
-Ask her if she's got any idea what her affinity is and what kinds of magic or spells she wants to learn. Brainstorm with her to see what she's thinking of doing and what she feels her magic is capable of.
-Practice your swordsmanship with her. Spar with her to observe her style and skill with the sword. Don't use the plasma edge, but try to use Reinforcement (and Regeneration, you want to see if you can keep them both up at the same time). You get the idea she's probably tough enough for that.
-Continue practicing with Daiyu. See if there's anything you can help her with or she wants to train something in particular.

By the way,
She just hugs you tighter.
I'm really annoyed at Morgan right now. :anger:

[] Give the silent treatment to Morgan for a week.

Training and visiting the barracks I can agree with... but Flight should be left to our own training, or at least until we get back to that in earnest.

I am actually in favour of talking to Karen first, so we know how long we can stay at base without repercussions.
And then steal all of this:
-Train with Daiyu
-Reserve a training area, preferably a large one with protective and containment measures just in case. You want to be able to show what you can do and see what Daiyu's capable of in a safe space

Magical enhancements like the plasma on Infinity Edge?), how durable is it (does it break like Infinity Edge?), can she summon it back to her or does she make a new weapon like you do? Is she a skilled swordswoman?
-Show her your magic. Use Thermal Control to increase and decrease the surrounding temperature, create ice sculptures and melt them with fire. Destroy target dummies (alternatively ice statues) with Thermal Spear, demonstrate Halt and Push using an ice statue. Tell her to stand back and use your Ignition Aura. Just show her what you can do.

Stealing that as well.

Okay, compressed version of what I stole without X due to the moratorium.
Am going to have lunch now, so any critique has to wait a little.

[X] Give the silent treatment to Morgan for the rest of the day.
[X] Talk to Karen about her plans involving you
-[X] You would prefer to stay on base until Daiyu is ready to head out with you
-[X] Ask her if someone can tell the Enforcers you worked with that you appreciate their assistance
[X] Visit the soldiers in the barracks, just to see how everyone is doing

[X] Train with Daiyu
-[X] Invite both Una and her sister (ask for her name) to come watch; that might interest them
-[X] Go take the largest place you can get for this
-[X] Demonstrate and explain your own powers to her; all of them including the transformation; have her do the same for you
--[X] No Plasma Sphere, only explanations for that one; make sure the auras do not destroy anything and give warning for the more exotic sensations
--[X] Mention that some things, like Regeneration, Reinforcement and Flight, seem like something she should be able to learn as well; do not tell her how you did it, seeing that everyone has to find their own way to do it. Just tell her it is there and to think about how she might make it work
-[X] Ask for her Affinities and brainstorm ideas; tell her to not push experimenting too far... that can hurt a lot
-[X] Have a few spars to get a feeling for each other; ask her if there is anything she wants to do.

[X] Once you are done, invite the Feng sisters to have dinner with you

Might want to clarify if this is a vote for the whole day, and they should be choosing multiple options, or if this is just a vote for the immediate future.

Oh thanks for condensing it. Makes it feel less like word vomit and more like a reasonable plan.

Needless to say I don't have any objections... except for the silent treatment thing. She definitely fucked up by telling Una, but I honestly think Cerys should decide how to deal with Morgan IC instead of us telling her to give the silent treatment. Makes it more meaningful if the character does it without our prompting.

I like this, I think there should be a subvote to 'visit the soldiers' which includes to specifically ask after the ones that assisted us in the concentration camp and maybe if they aren't there to thank in person then some contact info so we can send them something nice?

The enforcers were German. I'm not sure the soldiers know who they are.

Sending them something nice would be nice if we actually knew them and if Cerys wasn't the type to awkwardly flail her arms trying her best and not knowing what to do (see her attempts at trying to talk to soldiers and Ariana Stone etc.).

Not saying the idea's bad. But I just think Cerys would be the type to give them a thank you letter and leave it at that. Maybe try to remember their names. Especially that medic.

That Medic was awesome.

About this can you also invite soldiers and enforcers just to give them a view of how we work rather than getting it from a limited briefing or video recording?

Also they can offer suggestions and feedback after the training session, never underestimate the smart mindset of soldiers and unconventional enforcers, they can offer you interesting advice, no matter how different magical girl skills are to theirs.
This way they can offer you some theoretical tactics before we do Military Cross Training since we can't really do it now due to training with Daiyu plus Daiyu would appreciate advice on her skills.

Really please do add this in since I find it important as we have limits to working it out by ourselves.

Someone will write down a manual of how to work with magical girls base on this!

A thank you note from a magical girl totally counts as 'something nice'.

Thought you were talking about a gift. Yeah, a thank you letter would be nice.

I don't want our first training session to be a spectacle. We're doing this to get a handle of Daiyu and her style, and Cerys definitely hates crowds. She wouldn't want a ton of people coming to watch her and Daiyu practice, especially when it's supposed to be a personal training session where they get to know each other.

I really don't want that. Maybe later when we're more comfortable with each other and Cerys hates crowds slightly less.

Hm... those people were in Germany, I doubt they are around.
I can add a note to have them submit her thanks, though.
I put it in the talk with Karen; the common enforcers probably do not have any way to contact their colleagues in Germany.

Eh... Cerys is not social enough to invite random soldiers to come watch.
There might be other people anyway, but she is really not the person to do this.

Fair enough. I actually thought about it and figured that a week is too long either way.
But I think it is only fair to give her the silent treatment for the rest of the day; she did do something she really should not have.

Cerys working it out IC is a good idea, but there is nothing wrong with giving her a nudge; she probably talk about this with Morgan once the 'punishment' is over.

You forgot Regeneration.
She actually has that already... and I wrote "like this and that", so Cerys should do all the others that might be more common as well... but I can add that in.

Changes in red:
[] Give the silent treatment to Morgan for the rest of the day.
[] Talk to Karen about her plans involving you

Yeah she deserves the silent treatment for this.

About Daiyu and her magic though. Don't you think Cerys should explain what she tried to do with experimenting? It would serve as a cautionary tale to be careful.
