Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

SURTR

There, an actual honest attempt at a good name for the sword.

I had to look up what it means; the problem is that this is mythology again, which neither Cerys nor Una would know about.

In fact, I do like Event Horizon.

Buying the modification really just lets you start doing !SCIENCE! on your Aura without the potential of accidentally-ing yourself.
It also lowers the requirements for a lot of fiddling about with your Aura.

And this is basically the hint telling us to buy that thing if we ever want to work more with Ignition Aura... or have it not set everything around us ablaze. Maybe we should do that the moment we go back to magic practice.

As for a name… Does one name their arm? Do they name every finger on their hand? Do they name their heart? Their soul? No? Then truly one who wants to master the art of the sword should refrain from naming their blade, and acting like there is anything that divides a master and their blade.

Of course that is just my sense of aesthetics and I understand that most disagree with me :V

Before I get to the quote... yes, transforming requires the phrase in CW's Quest and I doubt it will be different here.
Anyway... you are right with what you said there. However, our protagonist is a teenager with an even more excitable pre-teen by her side; I doubt either of those two would have this kind of thought. Una at least would jump at the opportunity to name this weapon.

As for your devil's advocate, I do not think that Cerys is physically tired; more mentally or magically, probably.
With that in mind, would she be in any capability to actually look for a good hiding place after a small trek in the afternoon? Hm... that might give us a malus on the roll and Alea may punish overeagerness.
On the other hand, everyone just rushed the standard-vote without adding anything to it...

Ugh, I hate myself so much... changing vote, making vote.

[X] Name your sword; no, better: have Una name it... but tell her not to make it too over-the-top
-[X] Suggest a few names of your own so she has an idea what you want: Eternal Blaze, Event Horizon, Pulsar
[X] Relax with Una and read some books with her
-[X] Turn in early; have a light dinner and prepare to head out before dawn

[X] [EXP] Buy Ignition Aura-Modification (10xp)

I just realised that we can combine not running late and staying for now; we just send Cerys and Una to bed early, then have them start their next day one or two hours earlier.

Laevatein, Surtr's sword which Loki stole.
More thematically accurate, but even less chance of Cerys knowing it. Surtr pops up in a lot of the culturally ubiquious versions of the story of ragnarock, while the only reason I know about Laevatein it is because it's one of Loki's moves in persona 5.

It's one of the most popular swords in videogame though?

For lack of things to do, I think I'll start this chapter early.
Plan [X]Naron is basically the only vote bar one.

Quick vote for you guys.
[] The One Who Wanders
[] The One Who Follows
[] The One Who Advances

None of these are bad choices.
Nor are they related to Cerys or Una.

[X] The One Who Advances

I never thought I could make that many bad jokes with those images, especially in a Magical Girl Quest.

1-1-1...
You guys have 20 minutes before I close the vote. If it's a tie then I'll tip it myself.

[X] The One Who Wanders

Not all who wander are lost. I'm sorry I couldn't resist

Let us see what paths they take, and revel or despair in their journey

MIDNIGHT INTERRUPT
The exploration of your transformation was abruptly interrupted by an ear-piercing noise.

"That is so COOL!" Your sister was literally bouncing in place where she sat. She looks like she desperately wants to run over to you and start poking and prodding you, but was keeping her promise to stay safe. Well, in any case, you feel in complete control right now. No side effects or negatives. So you wave her over as you keep looking over your change.

The next five minutes involve Una literally poking and prodding you everywhere, though you had to keep her from touching your sword, even if it was safe for you it probably wasn't for her. Still, you endured her attentions with a quiet dignity. This was really cool and what had just happened was something that was literally out of Una's dreams. Oh god, I am a Magical Girl aren't I? I've even got the bloody catchphrase thing. That revelation aside, at least you don't have to make a speech about love and justice, Una would never let you forget it for the rest of your life. Speaking of your little sister, she seemed to be thinking hard about something now.

"Your transformation name is Ignition Knight?" You answered with an absent mind hum as you sat down and continued poking your sword in your lap.

Your sister lets out a snort and laughs. "Yeah, that fits you. It explains your sudden rash of setting things on fire." You really want to protest against that in some way, but you can't really. You have set an awful lot of things on fire lately, you just made sure the fire wouldn't spread. Your sisters eyes move over to the huge sword that is laid across your lap now and purses her lips.

"What's her name?"

What? "What?" She scrunches up cutely.

"Your sword, what's her name. They are supposed to have names right?" Uhh.

"I don't know?" Apparently that was the wrong answer, seeing as your sister gasped dramatically and started cooing over it, from a distance. She is enjoying this waaay to much.

"It's ok Sword-Chan, we'll find out your name soon!" She says with a fit pump. Chan? Isn't that one of those Japanese name things?

"Since you seem to know so much more than me on this subject, I will trust you to work this out." You nod at your sword as you smile. That should keep her busy for a couple of days.

"Whaaaat! You can't give up on her so soon! She's your partner!" You somehow doubt that, it doesn't seem to be anything more than a sword to you. Then again... An Idea for later

"And that's why I'm going to trust my genius little sister to work it out, you are much better at this sort of thing than me." Now, if only I could make this safe for her to hold. A second later the glowing edges of the sword dim completely and stop glowing. You stare at your sword for a moment and poke it with your magic again. Nope, still not alive. Probably. Still, with one problem solves, you promptly haul it off of your lap and drop it into your sisters arms.

Somewhat expectedly, she immediately falls to the ground trying to get a grip. You catch her before she can hit her head but she still glares up at you cutely. "There, now you can look at it. Just, don't move anywhere, I want to be here just in case." She nods at you slowly, ire already forgotten as her eyes are plastered onto your sword. She runs her fingers all along it, thankfully keeping them away from any for the previously glowing parts, you don't know how hot or sharp they still are.

You consider prompting her with a couple of names that you thought of as a curiosity. But to be honest you think it would be better if she did this completely by herself. You really aren't bothered by not naming it but your sister is adamant about this, maybe you'll point her towards space things in her encyclopedia later? That seems like it would work, the names you had thought of made you a little embarrassed to think of shouting them in the middle of some sort of super move or something.

Still, it's getting a little late, the sun is only going to be up for another hour or two. It would probably be best to get inside and have an early night tonight, you've been thinking about moving on. You hadn't forgotten the spirits warning about needing to be gone and you were pretty sure that you had already overstayed your time limit. Still, nothing bad had happened yet, beyond the freaky thing in the lake, so it would probably be ok to stay another night.

You call Una over as you dismiss your transformation before you realise that your sword had remained. Curious. Since she was still pinned under the weight of the sword, you wandered over and lifted it with one hand. Wow, ok then. I am a lot stronger than I remember being. Your sword probably weighed about half your sister did, no wonder she couldn't get it off of her. Still, your sword isn't going to fit in the cave's entrance without some finesse that you can't be bothered with, so you just try and dismiss it specifically. It fades into little motes of blue-purple light just as your armour had and dissipated.

At least this time I still have clothes. Yeah, that was awkward. Your armour had destroyed your clothes the last time, your not exactly sure why it had then and not done so this time but you weren't complaining, you liked this hoodie. Once the two of you were back in your cave and safely buried in spare clothing, you pulled Una into your lap as the two of you started poking through the encyclopedia. It really is a shame Una had to leave her Manga behind last time. Still, you take this time to help you practice her pronunciation and spelling. Even if Una grumbles about it, she knows it's for her own (and your) good.

The two of you eventually fall asleep as you were, lying against the wall of the cave inside your tent, her on your lap. The only things that prodded you awake was a single small animal and the thing from the lake passing into and out of your sensing range twice. Need to do something about that, it bothers me. There is a four hour stretch where nothing happens to wake you up, ending when you feel something move.

You feel a human pass into your range at not quite jogging speed, more like fast walking. They are making good time across the forest, curiously your roughly follow their path to see that they are moving in mostly a straight line, straight towards you that is. The thought makes you sit up roughly, the movement gently waking Una from her light sleep. She looks up at your silently as you stare upwards. Seeing this, she starts quietly packing things pack together into your bags as you keep your utmost attention on the person who is coming closer and closer. They are only twenty metres away when Una finished hurriedly throwing things into your bags and settles against you as close as she can.

Twenty Metres.

Fifteen.

Ten.

Five.

They stop completely, standing almost directly on top of you. You feel them slowly walk around the clearing in the near pitch black outside. When you focus further, you can feel that they have some sort of electronics on them, probably a torch or something of the sorts. No phone or anything else. Good, a quick ambush should let you make it away cleanly. You feel them slowly move towards your training area, of course, and stop. What you felt was their head moved around slowly as they walk over to several different spots before they stop at the gash you had left in the ground when you had tested your sword.

In this light, it would be easy for them to miss the entrance to your cave, it was nestled against a tree and was pretty narrow, essentially a hole in the ground. Hopefully whoever it was would pass right over it, thought it seemed unlikely seeing that whoever it was had moved in a straight line towards where you had been using magic. You very slowly made your way to your feet and bid your sister up with you. You carefully made your way to a corner of the cave, out of view of the entrance as best you can.

The tent is still very obvious, but you weren't producing any light and were clamping down on your magic as tightly as you could. You pressed Una into a corner and moved in front of her, crouching down so more of your body was in-between her and the entrance. You were carefully controlling your breathing to be as quiet as possible while you discretely tensed and untensed all of your muscles, essentially stretching without moving. You went completely still when you felt the heat from the light beam coming from the torch move over the cave entrance.

You almost relaxed when it passed over, but it rapidly snapped back to the hole and you felt the person slowly move closer. They stopped roughly two metres away from the hole and just looked at it for a while, shifting in place where they stood. You could just about make out a quiet noise that you assumed was them muttering to themselves about something, they sounded exited, their temperature rising slightly, though they still made no move to get any closer to you. In fact they seemed to be slowly moving away from the opening.

Plan...
[] Attack them
-[] Ambush them in the cave
-[] Rush out and attack them
-[] From within the cave
[] Stay silent, wait for them to make the first move
[] Call out to them

[X] Stay silent, wait for them to make the first move

No more violence if we can help it. Lets just hope nothing happens.

Abstaining...?

The idealistic part of me says we might be able to make a friend here.
Then it is shouted down by paranoia.

Wait... is this what the subvote was about?
If yes, with the added note that none of those options was a bad choice... hm...

Oh, to hell with it all. Literally, if that person turns out to be an enemy.

[X] Shush Una further back; you need space between you two in case you have to cast fire
-[X] Call out to them
--[X] Stay vigilant

The Light Shines, so not all hope is lost just yet. Best Forest was a precedent, so maybe we can be in luck again.

Oooh, I know what I want to try eventually.

Urgh, I knew we should've left.

Ok so the person here came with a purpose otherwise why would they be moving here so fast if they were, let's just say going for a walk? Then they looked at all the evidence of us being here and that can't be passed off as natural occurrences. Finally they saw the cave and are excited as if something they expecting turned out to be true. Since the tent is very visible they probably saw it.

I think we've been made.

However the lack of stuff they're carrying besides a flashlight leads me to believe they might be a civilian, and not anyone from the military, who got lucky and saw us. Question is do we want to let them go?

[X] Motion Una further back as quietly as possible
[X] Ambush them once they enter the cave, remember the homeless man though and hold back, no punches or kicks unless absolutely necessary, just grapple them.
-[X] "Who are you and what do you want from me?"

That said, while we only sense one electrical device on them, isn't it possible they could be carrying a gun in their off hand or something?
