I simply think this choice is far better suited to Ling Qi's skills

[X] Listen for the ultimate source of the pain in the world nearby, try to find the whispers left in the environment by what began all of this.

Yeah this one fits our skills better

Ways to foil Yan Renshu...drive past and get stuck in a traffic jam

This option feels like it's playing to our strengths more, we've gotten good at listening to spirits recently.
We recently chased a parasite spirit, we can add disease spirits to our experience.

However, I don't think this is really actionable. We're not a doctor, I doubt we could kill any disease spirits without also killing the infected people.
And as was mentioned before, the damage is already done. The town is quarantined, no more people are going to be infected, amd the ones that already are we can't help anyway.

The chase option feels more like the bigger picture.
Just knowing their identity might let us find collaborators, and if we successfully capture and interrigate them, we can fins the source of the disease anyway.
Knowing their methods would also let help develop counters to it.
And this might help us clear the name of the vassalised Ith.

The only danger here is that Ith arts make use of sacrifice, so the chance of catching the perpetrator alive is low.

Feels like there's a lot more to gain with the chase

(p.s. I wonder if Suyin had a similar encounter on her way to the sect. She would clear all of this easily)

I just like this better. Might help those still alive in the village.

I juts think it's more likely to be useful. Listening for the ultimate source of the pain would be useful if it was something we could fix, but to be blunt, we're not a doctor. Our talents are far more useful finding the culprit.

Even if we find the trail, we may not be able to pursue. And it would only stop this one attacker. I doubt just one person or cell could be responsible for twenty-something attacks. I think examining the evidence left behind as soon as possible is more likely to turn up something useful for the broader investigation.

We are on a schedule here and I doubt we will follow this lead much further. The best we can offer is to point the investigators in the direction of the next incident.

I think understanding how this was done will be the most impactful against future attempts

Dealing with the source and the infected is more a job for proper geomancers and doctors. At most LQ could try to freeze the entire area, which might not be the best approach.
