Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
I was disconnected for a few weeks and now I'm back up to date... First of all, thank you very much Yrsillar for writing all these interesting and exciting chapters!! I loved them! 🧡

Secondly, (here the complaints start) there is only one thing that has bothered me... Now that we already have the Meng geomancer active, why the hell haven't we done project [ ] Garden of Mists or the option [ ] Labyrinthian Geomancy? Before we didn't do it, in theory, because we were going to do it with the geomancer present for more synergy... now the geomancer is already here but the voter base seems to me to be getting distracted with every shiny new thing that comes out... 😞 And related to this, I would like you to clarify some things for me about the timeline... Before having to go to court and the military campaign begins, will we have time to do more projects or does that already start next month?

P.S. For reference, Garden of Mists and Labyrinthian Geomancy

Personally, I much prefer bland and forgettable to trying way too hard. Some names feel like they're inches away from coming with multiple exclamation points, and actively make me want to roll my eyes.

I know that might be the vibe that a lot of the genre tends toward sometimes, but we don't exactly have the "it sounds better in the original language" excuse for clunky phrasing or technique names here. We can use subtlety or secondary meanings, and in fact make a habit of it; half our puns come with a very genuine secondary meaning for Ling Qi.

We named our dress "Qi's clothes", but in a way that referenced it being a permanent reminder that we would have to dethrone Shenhua. Evergreen Succession might be taken to mean "another pine tree" but it also means "the endless vital force of life re-emerging changed but unbowed after calamity", and I don't much care if only Ling Qi and Zhengui understand that.
Legacy of the Broken Pillar doesn't sound like it comes with multiple exclamation points.
Also after all the other art names this series has had, something bland, dull and boring is just incredibly out of character for Ling Qi and doesn't fit the story in general.
Ling Qi is someone with an insane level of ambition, she doesn't do anything dull and she's the opposite of boring. It would be so out of character for her to come up with bland names.

Would it be ooc? She named her turtle turtle and her dress clothes. That's ascended levels of boring name.

Though yes, I agree Legacy isn't trying too hard. It's not a very personal name for her and links to none of her own experiences directly, but that's a comparatively minor complaint and I wouldn't mind it winning that much.

It refers to its origins, to Kohatu, which I think in this case is the most important thing.

I felt kinda ehh about her dress' name but QiYi and Zhengui are punny names, both clever in that they have multiple meanings but mostly silly. Clearly people decided to prioritize other things besides that this time.

I think you kinda answer yourself there- the Labyrinthian geomancy projects is a peace time one, and will enjoy some time to work on geomancy. time we have precious little of, only a few weeks. so the voter base preffered delaying it, sad as it is, so we can give it our full focus rather then cram it in a few weeks.
moreover, we have war coming, and we kinda neglected our combat skillset for a time. we really needed to get some better combat techs, and geomancy wasn't useful for that.

Legacy of the Broken Pillar is genuinely, well, broken as a name for this art. There's myriad criticisms that can be levied at it, but it all comes down to the name not meaning what the art means. It's inaccurate, ill-suited, and misleading.

First off, the elephant in the room, a shattered World Tree doesn't have anything to do with our art. The broken pillar's "legacy", if it has one, is the giant perpetual storm. Careful observers will recognize that our art is not about that storm. It's not even about responding to the storm, not in any direct sense. At the very best, you've got a context in a context in a context that links the name to anything the art is about.

And then there's the bigger issue that the context the art does operate from doesn't... care about the broken pillar? It's actually irrelevant to the metaphysical core of the art's lessons/background, which was rather the cyclically destructive environment of a volcanic island. When we're not even going to be centering the art on that imagery or history specifically, because it's distant to both Ling Qi and Zhengui, it doesn't make sense to reach even farther afield to the perpetual storm/wound on the earth and then even further to the dead thing that caused that to name our art. Not to mention that referencing a decidedly dead tree is nearly directly incoherent with the purpose and themes of our art, here. The Broken Pillar is a slacker loser that did not [Persist].

The name's further unsuitable because of the "Legacy" angle to it. Put simply, it's too rooted in the past. That's not really what the art is about. We got a mission statement from Ling Qi about the art.
Like the roots she meditated over she could not save every sprout and trunk, it was probably beyond her to try, but with her will, she could support and keep alive many who might otherwise perish, in the pursuit of the distant dream which they now pursued.

A dream even she could not yet see in full.
The art's purpose is to look forward, not backward. Yesterday is only relevant insofar as it fuels the growth of tomorrow, and even then a) the Broken Pillar bequeathed jack all to anyone's growth and b) the art doesn't appear likely to dwell long on the utility of the past's broken. We've got other arts for that. It gives the impression of being substantially more forward facing than that.

tl;dr: Legacy of the Broken Pillar is a cool name for an art that isn't this one, which it's completely unsuitable for.
