Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Harsh criticism ahead.
Five As One Unity (Dots-x)
Cost-x
The Infernal, for a few moments, seemingly splits in 5, each taking a different action, before crashing together.
A Multi-Action charm, allowing 5 actions in a single turn, that works on the premise that each action must be using different Abilities. For example, multiple attacks can be made, but only one attack that uses Melee, one that uses Brawl, one that uses Firearms, and one Athletics, with each action being an appropriate action for that Ability. Compatible with other charms?
Flavorful and cool. However it basically requires you to build everything else about your character around it which considering that we can't make most of these a key skill at this point would hurt. Also essanse limits per turn would choak this charm hard.

Reborn Instruction Method (Dots-x)
Cost-x Duration-x Max Targets- 5 or 25?
A Training charm, powerful in that it allows training in 5 different Abilities at once! except the downside, with its inspiration in the way the people of the city leave their old skills behind and learn entirely new professions, each set of dots earned in the 5 chosen abilities causes all OTHER abilities to lose a dot, as they leave behind all their old skills to be reborn. Also only allows Abilities to be trained, not Attributes.
I personally would allow for more flexibility in the skill transfers. As is the charm is never worth it.
Paths Through City Streets (Dots-x)
Cost- x
A non-combat travel charm, allowing the infernal to take 'secret back routes' that connect all 'Citys', with a loose definition of City, but still requiring any grouping of residences housing at least (500 or 5000?) people. Can also be used for inter-city travel, but not within the same building. Possible companion charms for 'Forests' and 'Wastelands?'
Both undefined and completely redundant at this point. Molly already has multiple methods for fast travel.
Benevolent Radiant Ring (Dots-x)
Cost- x Duration- x Area- x (25*Essense) Meters?
Activating this charm causes a blinding ring of light to manifest a fair distance above the infernal. Within an area under the ring, all adverse weather conditions are warded away and extreme temperatures are banished. The Infernal can either set the ring in a fixed location or bid it to follow her life a ridiculously distant halo.
Neat effect nice upgrade on TLoF. I can see Molly getting this charm after doing some teraforming in her kingdom. Now I can't really see Molly buying this charm unless we are about to invade a hell with friends, but it is neat.
Blade To Wheel Returning (Dots-x)
Cost- x
A very simple charm, this allows the Infernal to send any mortal she kills through an effect identical to The Wheel of the Fivefold Courts. While their old body is left behind, sometime shortly afterwards they will 'respawn' in a place of safety that is karmically tied to that individual, and without any injuries that the Infernal had inflicted on them in that Scene. Can possibly be combo's with Murder is Meat since the individual she kills will, for a moment, count as 'immortal', allowing her to consume them entirely if she is so inclined.
This is a bit of a mess both thematically and mechanically in that I have no idea what you are going for. Why kill people if we don't want to kill them? Is this meant to deal with collateral damage?

It's a strange charm, but there are uses. For example, if Molly wants to show mucky but is in no position to hold back, for example, or it can even be used on an ally to send them to safety, or a hostage. It's wierd but situationaly useful. And I don't design charms by saying 'is this useful' first anyhow, I go 'what's thematic' and then see if it can be forced to be useful.

It could be worth it depending on speed and amount of people, that's why that is blank. As it is it can take a group of nobody's and rapidly train them up to 5 dots in 5 abilities faster then any other training charm, making a skilled group of specialists in any field you need, and can even 'retrain' them into something else. The cost is steep, yes, but you wouldn't want to use this charm on people who already have a strong set of skills anyway. I DO really like the flavor on this one even if it means you dont want to use it on circle members.
Both undefined and completely redundant at this point. Molly already has multiple methods for fast travel.
Would it become useful if you could lead a group? Molly can only fast travel herself right now, and this would be faster and safer then group Nevernever travel.

I mean, you don't have to have it be all Attacking actions. You can mix an Athletics based movement, a Melee attack, an Intimidation, and other strange actions you wouldn't normally have time for in combat, even if it's only a distraction. That said, yeah, its suboptimal for pure combat DPS like other multi-action charms unless you plan a build around it.

I mean, it's also pretty useful in a lot of Nevernever realms besides the hells, but yeah.

But yeah no problem with Harsh criticism, these are concepts to be refined, not solid charm proposals.

There are plenty of times when being able to put people in time out without needing to go easy on them, though I suppose a number could qualify as collateral as well depending on your definition.

Dupes and thralls mostly, like the ants and Holt's goons.

There's also some interesting potential in that it's exactly like the wheel. So Molly could potentially cure people by subjecting them to extreme versions of what's ailing them, which seems appropriately infernal. It'd also make her version of a rescue mission interesting. Hostages? Guess we'll have to bomb the building flat to make sure everyone gets home safe.

It's a real problem though if you don't fully kill everyone. What if a few people are just maimed?
___________
All of our other hell have a one dot signature charm. A charm that allows you to survive and thrive in that hell. So what is the quality needed to really succeed in the Five Fold court?

Here's an idea
Experiencing everything that life has to offer *
Whenever the Infernal does something that they have never done before reduce all DCs by -3.

Blade To Wheel Returning
I really like this one. Depending on cost we could use it to possibly save essence when dealing with those we don't actually want to kill. Like White Council members that stand in our way to unknowingly protect traitorous elements. We could kill them without remorse and possibly spend less in essence and time than trying to take them out non-lethally.

Yeah, it feels both in character for Molly to have a 'Mercyful' charm and in flavor for Infernals for that Mercy to be in the form of 'Killing them now so we can deal with them peacefully later'

The charm would be some sort of skill roll in keeping with other charms. Not a hard check, but it would be rather awkward if we fail it.

I like the idea, needs mote pricing though.

I think setting that bit up excellency style would make sense, because the condition is significant enough to make pay per use, but a scene would be too much.

Gives me an idea for a charm too:

Spirit Shifting Stride(1 dot)
In a land far from the sun life is measured not by the cycles of heaven, but the rhythm of the soul.

Gracefully dancing between the five pillars of her spirit, the infernal tunes the elements of her soul to the task at hand.
System:
The infernal activates this charm for a scene as a reflexive action, and chooses one of the cities of the Fivefold Courts of Fate to channel.

While channeling a city she benefits from -1 difficulty to all rolls based on the skills associated with that city based on the given set so long as she acts within its themes. Actions using other abilities can still be taken, but most abide by the same restrictions. If the infernal breaks this requirement it qualifies as using up the city for the scene.

At any time the infernal may also to shift to another city, but this uses up her current one for the scene. Cities expended by either means cannot be returned to until a new scene starts.

The Red City: Law, Leadership, Intimidation, Melee, Alertness, firearms
The Emerald City: Academics, Occult, Science, Technology, Craft, Computer
The Sapphire City: Expression, Politics, Performance, Subterfuge, Athletics, Larceny
The Amethyst City: Medicine, Investigation, Empathy, Finance, Etiquette, Stealth
The Golden City: Survival, Brawl, Awareness, Streetwise, Animal Ken, Drive

The idea is sort of a BSM/WHWH equivalent for the FCF that's based on the whole shifts oriented around what you're doing or trying to be taking the place of measuring time in days.

Instead of the requirement being stuff like temperature or being soaked it's about frame of mind; Molly entering a shift in the city's shoes.

I'm scaling this off BSM. It's easier to maintain the state to activate the charm, but doesn't apply to everything at once and if you shuffle to a new set you give up the bonus to previously used ones for the rest of the scene.

It also has action requirements; BSM doesn't care what you do, but for SSS you have to be maintaining a state of mind and acting on it to get the bonus.

I think that balances out the low cost and significant bonus, with the additional benefits of being helpful for writing stunts.
It's a real problem though if you don't fully kill everyone. What if a few people are just maimed?
Stab harder.

Well yes, had no idea how to price it, but making it Essense + 1 turns makes paying an essense for it more reasonable. It also makes it possible to make multi-turn actions easier, like having one of the 5 actions, say, doing a rapid repair on a vehicle while another is fighting, a third uses Mind Hand Manipulation to do something, a fourth is taking an intimidate action to keep mooks from approaching, and the last is just chatting with Lydia casually in the middle of combat like you aren't doing 4 other things simultaneously.

I like the idea, needs mote pricing though.
How about only a single mote, but every different action has to use a different exilancy. Still an essanse hog, but all 5 actions are amazing. Might also include a limitations of only being able to use the charm once per scene.

Actually just have it last all scene there are only so many different extra actions that can be taken after all.

You know, thinking about the Special Investigations department again if Molly could provide a way to obtain the Mana background than a mix of Fortune and Shapeshifting, alongside proper education in supernatural, may be more than enough for police to deal with most magical criminals. And those that they won't be able deal with by using efforts of their whole department would be the guys that need some heavy hitters to counter and in straight up fight would roll over even Harry.

Just build the whole Police Sorcerer tradition around something like Idol Theory from To Aru where police emulate heroes of old and new (from action flicks) with their magic - so lucky coincidences, finding random clues that you would have missed, being supernaturally good at evading pursuit and so on. With Shapeshifting allowing to "hulk out" with clothes ripping and a person taking on physical characteristics of the heroes.

It won't be enough to say deal with the Dragon or big league Fae and so on but should be more than enough to find the edges of their plans, like that bullshit that happened in Vegas, and notify people who have the heavy ordnance to murder the fuck out of the problem. Similar to how police calls SWAT teams and the like to deal with terrorists.

Oh, this one I like. But I'd tweak it:
Blade To Wheel Returning (Dots-x)
SInce time immemorial even to the eldest of spirits and wisest of sages, the residents of Sanctuary held one surety in their souls above all - that the Wheel is turning, and with its revolutions brings the merciful release from their most grievous suffering where all other methods fail. Now, the Wheel of Ages is beginning to move, and the herald of the new era to come brings this blessed surety to the Creation beyond Sanctuary upon the tip of her sword and the edges of her mind.
System: Pay 1 essence, then strike a fatal blow to the target within the same scene. An ethereal wind, reminiscent to the everstorm of the Wilds engulfs the target, carrying it away. Instead of following to their original intended afterlife, they will instead be subject to the Law of the Wheel of the Fivefold Sanctuary. Within a year and a day, but possibly as quickly as the next breath, they will reincarnate in a place of safety that is karmically tied to them.
The exalt can pay additional target essence equivalent rating motes. In that case, the winds of the Wilds will linger, tying themselves to the breath of the target. After their reincarnation, the target remains bound to the Law of the Wheel for a year and a day. The target knows instinctively when this blessing passes.

Actually, there are several variations that I really want to try, but that won't jam into the single charm:
1) This could be a healing charm. Kill someone, they reincarnate, and get healed from the wound you gave them, and their most likely cause of death in the absence of said wound. It's very infernal to heal people by killing them, I feel.
2) This could be a minion binding charm, akin to VEE, where you bind the person to the Wheel in exchange for their oaths / submission (either social DC reducers, or the same "must fulfill our request" mechanic as VEE).
3) This could just straight up be "grant someone protection from death". Either for one time, or for a year and a day.

I'll have to think about it.

I really like this, but I think for a charm that doesn't cost essence and is only a 1 dot, it's a bit too powerful. Maybe instead limit it to one roll in a category per scene? It doesn't really have activation conditions, and it's reflexive, so it would still be quite good.

I like the idea of the city-related ability categories in general. Very flavorful.

We should probably work out what "themes" our Courts have for the charm purposes. So far I see the following:
1) The turning of the Wheel. Things to do with the passage of ages, rebirth, restoration through destruction, change. This also plays
2) Unity of aspects. Thematically this would be contracts, different aspects of one thing, cooperation, civilization, constructive competition and conflict. That's both the cities and the Inner-Outer Wilds clashing to create the livable forest.
3) Imprisonment and sanctuary maybe? Stuff to do with Labyrinth. That I really need to think about.

I'll have some charm ideas later.

Maybe. I set it up the way I did because its still less powerful than BSM.

It affects fewer skills, doesn't impact special rolls like soak or willpower, and lacks all the secondary things from that same charm.

You also have to be careful about choosing to switch, because if you don't anticipate progression of a scene correctly you could end up being set up incorrectly for it.

It also does technically have one; it's the same requirement to keep a given effect. You have to be acting in tune with your current city beyond just using the skills or you get nothing.

OK, internet problems have been... remedied, sort of kind of. I still do not have proper bandwidth until Monday, but fortunately SV does not take up that much. I just have to remember not to click on any videos until someone comes to fix the proper connection.

Well, they knew we were something weird and Big, metaphysically, since the start.

This might be a bit bigger tha they expected, but still, a God-equal with a dpirit realm in the Nevernever is not outside of the things a middling Occultists can comprehend.

And at this point even we barely know we are more than that.

Arc 12 Post 4: Show and Tell
Show and Tell

20th of January 2007 A.D.

It is not uncommon for the Order of the Cauldron to gather in one place, from potlucks to charity drives to yard sales. The various minor magical talents of the wider Chicago area have always known that there is safety in numbers, in the raising of wards and the trading of emergency contacts. This time it happens to be a baby shower. Pauline's sister is having a baby, a boy by the profusion of blue balloons —you've never been a fan of those after getting scared by a whole bunch of them popping at once as a little girl— and the large number of people with cumbersome packages in tow. Having reconnoitered the matter, i.e. asked Mom, you decide to go with a rocking chair, one you made yourself. Fortunately the new mother has enough of a Myspace presence that you can not only estimate her weight and posture, but also have a good idea for what would fit the decor of her house, forest green with gold accents.

The reaction to your arrival, is a touch startled at first and then all goes silent. It's only when you hear the first 'whoa' that you realize it is a silence of awe and not concern. "Told you you went overheard on the carving," Olivia 'whispers' so loudly they can probably hear you in the back of the packed living room.

In your defense a rocking chair is a pretty simple thing to put together so having scheduled the time and summoned the tools it would have been a waste to just leave it wood. So instead you had gone for a a fairy tale motif, specifically the tale of the Laughing Prince, from the harrumphing princess to the saddled roster of the tale in a tale to the kingdom filled with merriment.

"We... come bearing gifts," you offer with a smile and a wave to the women inside, and it is still all women, even though there are a few male members of the Order these days.

Olivia herself had just gone for large boxes of chocolate, maybe too large or too many, she had never been to a baby shower before. No matter really, there are plenty of kids along who are more than happy to stampede off with their new sweet treasure while their mothers, sisters and grandmothers have a 'grown-up talk'.

There's something almost unreal about sitting on an overstuffed armchair, sipping all natural fruit juice from the 'good glasses' and explaining in layman's terms, or as close to it as you can manage, what you are. Oh, this is not the political talk you'd had with Morgan and Wu Min or with the Agents of the Library of Congress, nor is is the guarded repartee you had shared with Lara Raith, instead it is... not unlike a fairy tale you guess, though one of darker mien than most: I am a power, I am growing in power, I am willing to share power.

A few demonstrations of Olivia's less alarming abilities top off the whole thing. She has a lot of fun juggling the contents of a fruit bowl with impossible skill then tossing them all across the room only to vanish and appear in time to catch them for a finale. For obvious reasons you do not get into the terrifying synergies with her newly found skill with a riffle and she does not summon any visions of Sanctuary.

"What was the cost? The cost of this working I mean?" Pauline is the one who asks and not surprisingly, you still remember meeting her in person, the sense that an unseen presence was accompanying her. Eyes of spirit often see more than those of flesh.

"I have a new appreciation for beef tartar for one," Olivia jokes. "It's not like vampirism or anything, just frozen meat you can get at the supermarket, but it serves kind of the same purpose. A part of me that was asleep is not awake and its needs are not entirely commonplace. Most of the magic, the chi, I use is either respire naturally though my connection to Molly or drawn from places of power."

"And you have to do this?" Helen's voice is sharp. She is not usually one for baby showers, she's only here for Order business.

"To use some of my powers, but also I accepted Molly as my patron, without that I would have to seek my own balance with the shadow soul and that's... tricky," Olivia continues smoothly. You doubt anyone else in the room can feel the soft hum of power enhancing her words. It is not direct influence, you had triple checked that against your own defenses, rather much like your own putting of essence into a task she can find the path of least resistance be it in jugging fruit or talking to a crowd. "I never was much good at warding, but if you guys need backup because something is testing a ward I'm your girl." She glances at you and laugh. "Guess that makes two of us."

"Three," Lydia speaks up quietly from the corner. She had come along for moral support, but since it soon became obvious you would not need it she had contend herself with sticking with Maria talking about... dogs you think. Her cousin runs a shelter.

Everyone seems to take the offer in the spirit it had been said, though you do not get any of the kinds of questions that might indicate that someone is tempted at least not while you are at the house. Helen catches up to you in the driveway.

"These gifts you can grant, can they heal?" There's quiet intensity in her words you had not heard before, though what emotion may be stirring behind those dull dark eyes you could not say.

The answer of course is 'no', but is it only no? After all you know that Tiffany managed to heal Harry yesterday and if her skills have grown enough to deal with the mess those things had made of him she could make right any mortal sickness or injury. On the other hand Tiffany is still... a kind of Lasciel even if she is kinder. It's hand to forget her flirting ankle deep in blood in the tunnels.

What do you answer?

[] Regretfully explain that you cannot heal

[] Explain that you do know a magical healer if she wants one

[] Write in

OOC: You guys mentioned Marcone, but missed that you are in the same organization as Helen. Question is do you want to make a Tiffany-Marcone connection through Helen.
