I don't have any problem with the name referencing its status as a border settlement. Even if one day that's no longer the case, its undeniably an important part of its beginning.

This one feels right for referencing Renxiang and her Band of Five (though particularly Ling Qi :p), as well of the mist architecture.

Alternate readings of characters produce Rime Rhyme so have fun with that.

note: if someone has a suggestion for a better pun along these lines I'm all ears.
 
Yunhai is the Chinese word for Cloud Sea.

Last one is base google translate for Geothermal Respite. (Edit: The reverse translate isn't great, definitely needs a language spotter). Anyone with corrections or improvements (shortening to a poetic two characters) would be welcome.

I wanted something that directly referenced the fact we had warm hotsprings and we're a good place to relax for anyone that had traveled through the cold or wilderness. Not quite Last Hearth but more aimed at convincing someone to travel to the edge of the world (which is easier when the name sounds like a comfortable place).

The thing is its not really the edge of the world, the southern part of the Polar Nation is more appropriate for that. Also the last option has the word "Dire" in it, I know its not in the English sense but I still see the word "Dire"

What about Rimehearth?

Lu4/dew is pretty good. I like dew, as it's beautiful, related to snow and blossoms, and certainly plentiful in a misty town under a waterfall. Lu4 also means roads or journeys, so rather than an endpoint like 'edge' or 'rim' type names it's something where you can journey past or through. (It's also green and continent and a few other things but that's unrelated.) 麓 for foothills as well.

Between 露 and 蓼 there are connotations of hardship or ephemerality, which can be paired with a word like yu4 逾 for overcome, or 余 for a surplus, so it becomes either overcoming hardship or surplus dew, or, well, surplus hardship. So maybe not yu4. Instead sheng4 is an option, which doesn't have such options available to my knowledge. There's 胜 for victory, surpassing, a beautiful view, 圣 for holy or sacred, 盛 for flourishing or magnificent or famous (and is adjacent to flowers with 盛开, for 'in full bloom'), 晟 for brightness or splendour...

So Shenglu, for overcoming hardship or surpassing ephemerality, beautiful or sacred dew, a scenic journey or scenic hills, and other things. An aspirational name, for Gan Guangli, and a name that references snow or blossoms and the geography, for Xia Lin. As an english name, to match style, something like Sacred Dew, Saintly Dew, Dewtown, Verdant Dew (the green was relevant after all!)... is probably best.

Yeah, it needs some work. I'm hoping for someone knowledgeable and poetic to shrink it down. (Will add Shenglu since that also has shades of what I was aiming for).

As far as the edge of the world it might as well be for most people. At the edge of their civilization and borders, past that is snowy wasteland. Recently some know about another civilization that lives out there and that it isn't just a giant glacier but I'm not sure how much actual information vs rumor would trickle down to possible colonists. Using names that reference terrain boundaries seems inoffensive enough.

If you actually speak connotations, that's far better than those of us just using dictionaries (let alone Google Translate, which is often worse than a dictionary, though not knowing Chinese grammar could possibly negate that I guess).

One thing I was kind of vaguely wanting to refer back to is the fact that Ling Qi's mist is terrifying for anyone she doesn't welcome. Does my "deep" touch on that?

(I updated my name-component list btw, with most suggestions people have thrown out)

Some thoughts on TianJi.

The first appeal was the pun with 天机，a staple xianxia term (iirc related to xuanji heh). The pun is a bit weak cause of the difference in pitch, but it rolls off the tongue for me.

2nd was that it felt kinda epic and can be flavored as an aspirational "reach-for-sky's-limits".

Brainstorming loosely for other suggestions more directly addressing what xialin and guangli mentioned, i have:

合流, "heliu" confluence, but also sounds exactly like river flow. Might be too on the nose and basic-word sounding. Maybe 聚合, which sounds like big river?

玄湖, "xuanhu" mythical lake, sounds a bit like xuanwu 🫣

雪彩, "xuecai" snow colors, sounds like suicai watercolor, but the snow version lol. (Idk what pitch crx'a cai is, but in my head ive been pronouncing it like the taiwanese president soo this pun is not thattt blatant in my mind)

霜 "shuang" is lovely, but havent found a nice combob for it. Maybe 霜丝，霜翼，银霜... Can pun into double or pleasure lol

Might be able to use 绽 of 绽放 "zhanfang" as blossom somehow. Absent of context, the word sounds violent to me tho, like battle or occupy. In this context 展 or 盛 prolly works better.

I like 源 too, cause 渊 sounds similar and has a darker more mystical edge to it, on top of the more wholesome round-whole homonym.
