So, something important. With Ling Qi's new [Communication] ability, she may say Treaty of New Peace, but it'll come across differently for the WS and the WS.

For the WS, it'll be Xin'an, obviously. But for the WS, what would its Slavic/Norse translation?

This is very important. We're doing Winter's Crown next updoot, so people will be going wtf at us. We need to showcase our new Communication ability working across languages and barriers to make it a double wtf moment.

Imagine:
Wang Lian: "Yes, I think Xin'an would be a good name."

At the same time...
Dzintara: "Yes, I think [insert WS version] would be a good name."

Everyone: *stares at LQ*
Everyone: "stares at LQ even more as she upgrades her bloodline*

Edit: Also, apparently, Xin'an can also mean new case.

Excerpt from veekie:
Cao Chun: You brat you totally gave me Xin(New) An(Case, Criminal)

[X] Xin'an / "New Peace"

It's half of a proverb, and I think it'd be nice for the Polar Nations settlement to also be half a proverb about peace.

Mir De Lad, Bol'shoy Klad is the alphabet version of the Russian proverb "Peace and Harmony is Great Treasure"

so Mir De Lad (Mirdelad) might be the settlement name, with the implication being that the settlement is Great Treasure even if it's only for peace and harmony purposes.
of course, many are also going to make Great Treasure from trade and tech-sharing. That's only implied by the name though, which is cool.

Another implication is that each nation is providing half of their Peace-Proverb, to complete a whole Peace-proverb between them.
Additionally the proverb suits the teaching of Tsu. Tsu became "Bountiful Earth" in pursuit of a more peaceful and harmonious existence for all peoples. You know, treasure of the earth, bountiful earth, the reward reaped is peace and harmony. He provided food not because he thought food was the most valuable thing, it was so that food could foster the greatest treasure. Peace and Harmony. Which is bluntly what the Russian proverb is saying. "Peace and Harmony is Great Treasure"

I think the Weilu-types might get a kick out of the Solar Priests actually, because the Sun Priests of the Polar Nations are so peace-pilled some don't even wrestle. That's not what Tsu would do, but Tsu would weather all of the attacks of The Vermin King and have it feast on him while others dealt the damage. Which is entirely what Sun Priests due with their DPS counterparts in other priesthoods. That's kickass. When's the last time anyone in Emerald Seas tried to replicate that particular feat of Tsu? Turning yourself into a juicy meal and surviving despite your opponent devouring you til they were exhausted?

because the Sun Priests literally make themselves into juicy meals for Ice Spirits. We even saw one create candy for Hanyi! That was badass!

So, yeah. Both cultures having a name that's half a proverb which is, hypothetically, completed by the other group? MANY puns available for Xin'an, and unknown implications/puns about the proverb I posted here. Peace striking deep towards the Sun Priests and the legacy of Tsu? Honestly? Good stuff. A successor to the Weilu has finally won a peace without blades pressed to necks or vile social engineering via the liminal. Just good ol' fashioned talkin'. Beautiful

EDIT:
and after writing this, it seems like the latter day Hui took the inverse lesson. Rather than "having needs met sets the stage for Peace and Harmony" it's "with enough privation/suffering/need just about anybody can be reduced to a squabbling beast betraying anything/everything just to survive another day. The only thing that upholds peace and harmony is the prosperity enjoyed by the people, and if it's taken away they'll devour and betray one another immediately without our hand allowing them to enjoy a prosperity that we cultivate and allow others to partake in."
what a nasty bunch

Can someone tell me all the Xin'an puns? Also, Bai Meizhen isn't in the room, right?

Only she and Cai Renxiang know just how much Ling Qi loves puns. Even Jaromella I think has been mostly spared it, so they're the ones who might be able to stop her and won't just assume it's a deeply earnest and sincere proposal... or rather will understand that she can both be "deeply sincere" and also "make everyone say a pun."

Okay, digging into some of my sources for Old Norse (since the Polar Nations are sorta-old norse, and I don't have anything good for old slavic languages) I'd say that the best translation for 'Xin'an' would be something like ný-friðar (pronounced new-fri-thur, with a very short 'i' on the fri). Friðar means peace, love, tranquility, which is the best fit for what we're trying to go for here, I think.

[X] Xin'an

Xin'an sounds good. I won't mind if it wins the vote. But I just want to remind you for the future that we have a fictional world with a bunch of its own stories, languages and dialects. We can simply choose a combination of sounds that sounds good and then give them any meaning.

Putting all the discussions together...

Xin'an is New Peace.

Xin'an, using "heart" instead of "new" is part of proverb meaning roughly "peace of heart/mind", which is fairly fitting for what we're trying to create on the border here.

Xin and An could also refer to New Case, i.e. what we're creating for Cao Chun :V

And from a meta perspective it's funny since it could sound like we were naming it after Jiao's wife and emperor (though my impression is that China doesn't really do the naming places after people thing, so this wouldn't come up in-universe?).

Though us secretly honoring the hidden or new moon that supports us is also a funny thought :p

I think that's right?

I'm a little late on reading this update so my name may be a little late in being suggested, but I'll throw it in anyway.
New suggestion for town/treaty name:

[X]Timberline

The timberline is the area where trees become unable to grow because of air/temperature/soil problems on mountains or in the arctic and I think it nicely meshes something being built between the Polar Lands and Emerald Seas. Plus the Timberline Accords and Timberline Town both roll of the tongue so nicely.
