Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

[X] Ask what you can do to help
-[X] Offer Mercy in Servitude
-[X] STUNT: As understanding dawns like the first ray of the sun, a context-appropriate responce forms in your mind. Looking directly into Eiko's eyes, a subtle and serene smile forms on your face, even as your hand makes Varadamudrā, and the ever-shifting flames of your anima form a fascimile of a lotus shape. A moment later, when you are sure she saw your reaction, and understood that it was deliberate, you speak: "All flowers need nourishment to grow strong and see the sun. Lady Eiko, would you be so generous as to offer us refreshments?"

I like the rest even less. This May work but the rest does not progress the stituation in any way.

Yog's plan at least moves things forward.

Yeah, I'm not sure whether MiS is likely to work on her, at least while she officially serves Emma-O.
It only cares that they serve us in some capacity. Other loyalties can exist. It worked on Thomas, for example. And on the skavis girl.
This entire conversation is being done in metaphor and subtle implication. You're saying you'll help her and essentially asking for hospitality as a guest, which would dramatically change the tone of things even if MiS doesn't turn it into a display of power.

You're turning Eiko's attempt to recruit us into an audition for helping her.

It's not binding like a promise is, but it's also not the sort of thing we should walk back and forth on because we didn't bother to check what we were committing to.
That's... true, ok. I don't think I agree with the second sentence - I am fairly sure she's not trying to recruit us, so much as get our help. Which we'll be showing we are willing to provide with my vote.

As to commitment... Well, so far Molly has demonstrated a remarkable willingness to help others, as long as they have good intentions.

MiS is both "yes I am willing to help you" statement and a show of power. Any terms of such help in the long term will need to be discussed separately. Commitment to "I agree that reediming Emma-O is a good idea and am willing to help" is not a blank cheque. We aren't locking ourselves into helping Eiko sacrifice 666 infants in order to call up Satan so he could beat evil out of Emma-O.

Since we can't get Eiko as a minion out of this, we'll have to demonstrate that exaltation is best left in our hands. As such, demonstrating power and mastery over it is a good move, in my mind at least.

As to her plan... frankly, I doubt she has much of a plan at this point. And if she does and it involves atrocities, we can always say "no, I won't be helping with this plan. If we are redeeming Emma-O, it'll be on my terms".

—[X] A creature cast in darkness, asking her to save her master from the hell that he rules with an iron fist and is caged in with iron bars. In the depths of her heart, where sublime certainty had planted itself in a moment where she was anything but, there is an echo of familiarity.

-[X]STUNT: Mentally you hesitate, turning the topic over in your mind before speaking again, but Lydia beats you to it. "Mirror flower, water moon." Lydia says, tilting her head. "As a man cannot be known by his looks, neither can the sea be fathomed by a gourd." The shikome shifts her body at that, and there is no more trace of amusement in her reply "Rice cake to the rice cake store, Lydia of the House of Rhi". "Melon field, under a plum tree." is the sharp reply, its meaning passing entirely over your head, but leading you to speak. "The mountains are high" you murmur, deliberately not finishing the saying "And yet people often dont see whats under their feet. Tell me, Eiko-san." As you speak a circlet of eyes condenses on your brow, green fire given form "Can you see Mount Tai?"

-[X] Tell Lady Eiko that you are sorry you don't seem to be having enough common interests to bring this talk to a more fruitful result.
-[X] Activate your Viridian Exoskeleton, due to your already flaring Anima you should be capable of activating flight and deal aggravated damage without further actions wasted
-[X] Everyone focusses their offensive on Lady Eiko, Wan Kuei are vastly stronger when they have time to switch on a variety of Shintai-powers and take their demonic form, so don't get distracted by mooks.
[X]Speak openly of her intentions and what Emma-O will do to her when he finds out. Eiko has no choice. She must fight the will of Emma-O now even if it destroys her, for if she doesn't Emma-O will destroy her in an even more painful manner.
-[X]Stunt: "You are doomed" You say the words with compassion. "When Emma-O learns of your intentions he will destroy you in the cruelest manner his very experienced mind can devise. Your only hope now if to fight his will with everything you have. For even if it destroys yourself it will be a better end and maybe just maybe by devoting your will to me I can shield you from a measure of his wrath so that at least a part of you will survive."
[X] Ask what you can do to help

Please do not offer to help the not really repentant monster with her goals. She has already made her choice and that choice was that she wasn't actually willing to give up power for redemption.

She is not at all a potential ally and will backstab us as soon as she thinks it will benefit herself or Emma-O. Plus again not actually willing to give up infernal power.

I will admit - I am biased. "I am too scared to let go of everything I have in order to walk a better path" is a sin I understand well. So, in this vote I am not very objective. Hopefully, it'll work out.

[x] BronzeTongue

I am not happy with any of the votes and really liked offering MiS. But I do not want to commit just yet. Not like this.

Arc 6 Post 23: Masks of Meaning
Masks of Meaning

3nd of October 2006 A.D.

Mind roiling, a thousand questions rise from it like ravenous fish from the dark sea, beneath it all a cold current. I could just kill her, it is too much, a fool's errand to redeem one of the dark lords of Yomi and I don't have the time. Sarah, Deborah and her little girl, they do not have the time. Yet you let the seconds pass in silence one after another. There is something in those pitch dark eyes you cannot name. A soul damned asking her to save her master from the hell that he rules with an iron fist and is caged in with iron bars. In the depths of her heart, where sublime certainty had planted itself in a moment where she was anything but, something familiar.

Hope is not a plan, but it is a start. "To each grain of rice, it and its closest fellows are as precious as any flower." You are almost surprised at how light your tone is, as though all this is nothing more than a riddle, a distraction and not a negotiation on the eve of bloody war. "So to is it for the sun, moon, and even the brightest stars. It is to their detriment that their sorrows blind them to those of others. Who knows what might be possible, if rice can reach heaven or a star can taste the secrets of the earth"

"None may know the whole of the path from the first step, but some twists can be guessed, some turns can be seen and with great good fortune some might reveal themselves unbidden. The sage man does not seek to put her head under the water to see what lies beneath, but learns the nature of water that she might craft a sound that can pierce it and listens for the echo..."

Is she talking about sonar? You wonder startled, the most technological thing she had mentioned before now had been a mechanical watch, but it's the only thing that makes sense. What she seeks would be the restoration of Emma-O and that would make the sea the endless night of Kakuri, the corruption of Yin.

"Yet rare is the vessel that can holds water pure, drawn from the depths.."

"She wishes to study the power within your majesty that she might understand how her lord has been corrupted, a reflection of Kakuri's might that is not of Emma-O and thus which she might freely observe and ponder as she cannot do to the face of her lord directly," Usum whispers the sly excitement of the conspirator in his 'voice', he's enjoying this a lot more than you are obviously.

But he is not the only one who had caught on to something to judge from the way Lydia's eyes abruptly widen. "You say sage when you mean scholar, I think. One would be unwise to trust a lone scholar, particularly if they are under contract."

As ways of asking if Eiko has any help go that one is really blunt, almost dismissive, but apparently the way to go. The sudden hitch of in drawn breath for one that does not need to breathe and fingers snapping closed upon a lock of black hair that she is quick to tuck behind her ear, the akuma is worried you will say no, afraid.

"Many there are who walk the path, one close by who weaves it tight."

"What...?" you breathe before you can bite back the words. Eiko had spoken to Smiling Jack, gained his cooperation, you would not put it past him of course but you had seen no sign of that at the meeting. She must have swayed him tonight. That does make an odd sort of sense if there are other shen on this conspiracy of redemption then they could be used to make contact with one of your known allies and establish a means of uncensored communication before the scheduled meeting on the fifth. Then of course things had started to move at breakneck speed leaving you here having a conversion in code.

While you had been furiously thinking the akuma does not speak again, instead her gaze seems to wander. Following it you see that it had come to rest on a wooden mask set above the reception desk. Round metallic eyes stare out from a bony face. Black wind-swept eyebrows and mustache lend the mask vital energy, and the brownish ochre color gives an impression of vigor. Ayakashi, the mask that marks a cruel god, or a vengeful ghost in Noh, the oldest form of traditional Japanese theater, and thus most concerned with theological themes.

A fair representation of Emma-O to be sure or any of the damned souls in his care, but what does that have to do with...?

"Dawn is breaking soon," Eiko says, her words cold and distant. "The time had come to arm ourselves for battle."

For one jarring moment you think negotiations had somehow broken down, but then like an optical illusion dispelled by tipping your head to the side, Noh plays end at the break of dawn and in the case of the warrior plays the scene just before that is a rendition of the battle which landed the protagonist in Shurado, the Realm of Fighting and Slaughter, a mock battle.

She is offering to fight you alright, but she is also offering to lose on purpose as long as you let and presumably her underlings live or unlive... whatever the term might be. If that is the case... the reason she had told you about coming into contact with Smiling Jack s was so that you would have a line of communication after all this ends.

'Look at my power and hope it helps' still isn't a plan though and you are not minded to let her slip the noose on that alone. "The sea which stretches between us us vast, beyond knowing, beyond bridging?" The question in the tone is subtle, it sounds still like negotiations breaking down

"So it is, so you shall pass into the long sleep of mortalkind." She rolls the tip of her tongue, into a soft melody, meaningless words, that have all the meaning in the world. That sort of music isn't Japanese at all it is Ainu the people to whom the dread lord of the Night Realm was once the fair and honorable judge of the dead. Eiko has allies, not just among the shen, but also among those mortals closest to whatever might remain of Emma-O's heart and they are working to restore him.

What do you do?

[] Agree to a mock battle before dawn which leaves Eiko 'unable' to aid the Will of Kakuri yet which leaves her in shape to recover rather than leaving her out in the sun or worse

[] No, it is not worth the risk of leaving such dangerous foes at your back, these akuma, like the others shall perish, unable to return to their master even in spirit

[] Write in

OOC: There are a lot of rolls and I have to run so it might be a bit until I post them

Frankly we don't have enough in the tank to push this.

Ok, so there's a conspiracy at least. We should use the crown to learn how Emma-O was corrupted. That would be worth a lot to them, and their goal is a good one.

Eiko doesn't know it, but with the Crown we're probably capable of assisting her mission a lot more.

It's also worth considering that not all the Yama Kings are fully fallen. Haha No Fukami still does her job in accordance with the August Personage of Jade's mandate, and if Bao Zhong is still alive he may remain loyal. He'd also be interesting as an example of an uncursed Wan Xian.

A big part of the problem is that Emma-O seems to have chosen to fall. He was one of the ringleaders of the coup that overthrew and killed Yen Lo, the original Yama King. He went bad way back in the Third Age.

Note another detail about Emma-O. He doesn't know his own true origin, he's forgotten it. He owes a favour to the Arhat of the Song of Shadows dharma for giving him a hint to it (from their Dharma book).

Given how one of the priorities of the Bine Flowers (members of the Song of Shadows dharma) is learning and the collection and preservation of knowledge, we have an in with them. The libraries of the elders of that dharma are probably some of the greatest collection of knowledge about the nature of Yomi Wan and the Yama Kijgs, as that's been a research focus of theirs for many thousands of years. Not only would their texts make great focuses for questions, but they'd probably pay us very handsomely for the knowledge we could gain from Crowm questions and pass off as inherited knowledge from the Exaltation.

Oh and do keep in mind that even if she throws the fight you still have to make it look convincing so you do get to have a decent measure of how Eiko fights before meeting the Will and fighting for real.

do you guys know princess the hopeful? there is a part where a princess that has fallen can be returned to , well her unfallen self. i found the mechanics and lore very interesting. finding our own version here is something i would like to try longterm.

Is there anything we can do that is visually impressive without actually spending Essence or Willpower?
