Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

[X] Let the vampires go first, you will clean up the winner afterwards

Easily a hundred people or more down there, with anywhere from a third to half being enslaved support staff.
We cant afford to let the Rampires run amok.
Based on what? This is their secret bolt hole and they're running for their lives.

I can see some slaves being around, but they didn't exactly have a lot of time to pack before running.

They're probably beyond saving anyway; red court vampires aren't exactly built for gentle assaults even if we take over, and the cultists are almost certainly going to use them as chaff.

Letting the vampires go first so we can swoop in after and claim the prize is amazing. 100% in theme to use a classic villain maneuver for good.

The more Red Court that get themselves killed the better. Both morally and practically.

If the Pathfinders are a Fomor project, then there's a Fomori cantrev-lord here.

If gossamer is valuable enough to have diplomatic consequences with the Fae Courts, then its valuable enough that a Fomori cantrev-lord would not leave supervision of its harvesting to a mortal minion.
And if a cantrev-lord is here, he will bring both his retinue, and his.... tastes.

We see in Even Hand company strength forces at short notice, and in Bombshells that the Fomor lord there literally had sex slaves he strangled to death. At a diplomatic convention.

EDIT
Basically, if this is the Fomor, thats not a bolthole.
Its the local command center of the actual person running this op.
As opposed to Niemi who was just running the surface op.

That line of reasoning involves a lot of assumptions, the chief one being that the Fomor could operate the same way now as they do later when they're on the rise.

The sort of thing you're describing is not that subtle, especially to other predators, and they can't really afford to make waves right now. Still possible, and I imagine that their bolt hole is full of its share of awful stuff, but I doubt the scale of it.

And again, I don't think we can save them. A chaotic melee like this where they're considered entirely expendable by one party is basically a death sentence.

I sort of doubt that there are a bunch of innocent bystanders in the lake. Mostly because Dad's mission finished as soon as we saved the people in the nursing home. If there were a bunch of innocents still to save then I would expect his mission to be ongoing.

Right now let's focus on punishing the guilty rather than worrying about saving innocents that might not exist.

1)The events of Even Hand involved a Fomor cantrev-lord invading Chicago and happened 8 months before the events of Changes.
So no, they have the capacity just fine.
They just have no current motivation to do so openly while the White Council and Red Court are fighting each other.

2)Nobody will survive if we dont try.
If we do, some will.

3)Actual intervention is worth bonus XP to us.
Successfully dominating Reds is worth bonus XP. Saving civilians is worth bonus XP.
Getting eyewitness testimony of Fomor society from ex-slaves is worth bonus XP.

The Sword will not force feed you everything. Michael lived in Chicago for years while Bianca St Claire and her court murdered ppl.
And we know OOC what Fomor society is like. There are ALWAYS slaves.
See the events of Even Hand, and why they happened.

Going AFK for twenty minutes or so.
Vote later.

I also want to let the vampires go in first because if we do work with them, then it would be quite awkward to immediately turn around and kill them after we are done. Immediately betraying our allies after they have served their purpose is a villainous move, but not really the sort of reputation we want to cultivate. And they may be too intimidated to betray us first and give us an excuse.

But every Red Court we let go is consigning to death everyone they will feed on in the future. Plus they would be leaving with valuable information on our abilities. So I don't want any solution that leaves any Red Court alive. Leave no witnesses.

Better to keep them at arms length and use them as pawns which we can kill after without it being a betrayal.

Just saying in character there is no reason to assume their existence. It would actually seem less likely considering what we know.

IC?
We just saw them essentially enslave the entirety of Souls Rest nursing home for months, maybe years in order to farm gossamer out in the open where family members would come and go.

We have every reason to assume this spot, with no interruptions, could also be used for enslaving humans for other purposes.
Especially since Dresden just told us there are rumors that the Fomor have figured out how to turn humans into more Fomor.
We have no reason to assume all, or most of those people are willing recruits.

After all, its not like the Reds always, or mostly, grab willing people.
At least Fae recruits require consent.

EDIT
OOC, Fomor servitors are canonically made from male humans with powerful biological and mind magic
dresdenfiles.fandom.com

Fomor servitor

Fomor servitors, nicknamed Turtlenecks, and commonly called servitors, are altered humans serving the Fomor. They first appear in "Aftermath". Fomor servitors are humans the Fomor have altered by inserting such things as gills, extra muscles, organs for sonar, and night-vision eyes. It is almost...

They get those humans from somewhere.
Either a captive breeding population, or regular kidnappinga of surface populations
Probably both.

They are Red Court vampires. They can cross into the NeverNever from any site of significant bloodshed, from butcher shops to battlefields, just like Raiths can enter and exit the NeverNever from places of sex and personal significance like strip clubs and sites where they were almost killed, and how Blampires can cross via graveyards and places of death.

There is a significant chance that attempting to get cute ends in a vampire getting to the loot and fleeing home before we can do anything about it. And we really dont want to let the Reds and their sorcerers get their hands on gossamer in the middle of this war.

Plus, significant chance of civilians here.
Writing them off and then having Molly walk through this place and potentially see their dead bodies is not going to put her or anyone else with her in a very happy frame of mind.

-[X] Enforce strict rules of engagement to avoid collateral and maximize chances of intelligence return
-[X]STUNT: Shoreside activity drew first one set of vampire eyes, and then another, and another. Quiet preparations for a dive faltered and come to a halt as their incredulous eyes watched two figures push a small bright yellow submersible into the surf, and board it. Incredulity turned to wariness, with an undercurrent of the alarm of startled predators, as with a whisper of a starting engine, the vehicle starts up, and turns towards the buoy; half a dozen Reds even beginning to shed their skin suits at its approach. And then wariness became terror as green light and a heavy, oppressive pall fell on the group. Hastily upturned faces see the figure of a demon - a woman - descend from the sky in cargo pants, Timberlands and black chainmail, her form limned in green fire and far too many eyes. In her hand was a blade the color of old brass, its blade lined with green flames and half-legible script that whispered of final endings and the death of gods. Her descent ended perhaps six feet from the top of the buoy and she looked down on the seethe of vampires frozen underneath her sight with cold, cold eyes. "You were told to stay out of my way." The voice os calm, almost conversational, but in it lurked the promise of hellfire.
"Who's captain here?"

RATIONALE
1) The truce was based on our staying out of each other's way. They have breached it by getting in ours.
That justifies anything else.

2)Vampires can cross into the NeverNever at places that have resonance/significance for them.
Raith Whampires for example can use strip clubs. Blampires can use graveyards.

Red Court vampires can cross into the NeverNever anywhere a lot of blood is spilled. Like this base.
A lot of blood is about to be spilled here. If we let them go ahead, there is a significant chance for their boss to get to the loot, grab it and cross into the NeverNever here. We DONT want them to escape with gossamer for their sorcerers.

Dont get cute.

3)Bonus XP for successfully dominating a group of Reds. Bonus XP potential for freeing human slaves.
Bonus XP potential for intelligence on the Fomor society if we recover live victims and any documents.
Bonus XP potential if we recover any gossamer before the Reds do. Bonus XP potential if the Reds attempt a double cross and we get to kill them all.

4)Also worth noting: the Fomor are canonically allied with the Outsiders.
And they have a Titan.
This is critical evidence to discover IC if we can.

And for the people worried about an attempted double cross: A Knight of the Cross is very well specced to counter Reds; Michael has kersploded his way out from a group of Reds in Grave Peril without even carrying Amoracchius.
Here he has Amoracchius.

And Lydia is an Exalt-tier combatant whose arms have the [cold iron] tag, and fomor(not fomor servitors, who are generally of human descent) are weakened/repulsed by iron.
Then there's Molly.

A single fight is hardly enough to mark a place as as being a "site of significant bloodshed". This isn't a major battlefield, it's hardly a skirmish. Especially because it was previously aligned to it's current watery masters. At the very best they would be preforming a blind jump into the NeverNever. If they can even do that in a location with mixed influences while under attack by us. So I seriously doubt they can just wave their hand and disappear.

There may-or-may-not be hypothetical innocent bystanders here in the enemy base. But there 100% will be innocent victims of the red court vampires in the future. Taking command of them means we are taking responsibility for them too. So either we coldly execute every vampire after we are done using them as disposable troops. (Which is both not something I can see people voting for/I would vote for, and builds us up as a betrayer).
Or we let them go to kill who knows how many other innocent people in the future.

I don't want any solution that leaves red court vampires alive. And I don't want us to be a backstabber either. Even with the most unsavory allies. Because that is exactly what got the Fomor into the position they are now in.

The only other option I would accept would be to kill all the vampires first, and then kill the Fomor after. But that is stupid and far too risky. So instead we wait for them to soften each other up and swoop in to claim victory our self.

1)Yes it is.
You are about to pit 18x Rampires against around 10-20 cultists and the likely retinue/entourage of a Fomori sorcerer. In an enclosed space where its hard to retreat, and the Red Court vampires will want no witnesses. Blood will flow like water.

The death toll here will be in the high double digits minimum, possibly three digits.

2)And if the Reds get their hands on gossamer, its likely to be a significantly worse deal.
The Red Court killed tens of thousands of people in Africa in order to kill a bunch of injured wizards. One incident. One magic bomb.
The book was Dead Beat.

Even if all 18x Rampires here get away and murder 1 human each day, 365 days a year, for the next five years, they wont match the death toll the Red Court pulled off there with sorcery and trading for a WMD.

We DONT want to risk gossamer falling into Red hands.
God knows what they'll make with it, or trade for it.
If that means letting the survivors of this group go if they are smart enough not to attempt a backstab, so be it.

3)I will remind you that even the Knights dont kill Rampires on sight.
Even the White Council do diplomacy with them. Michael literally lived in the same city as Bianca St Claire's seethe for several years and at no time did Amoracchius send him off to burn her nest to the ground. The Raiths are still headquartered out of Chicago.

There is a time and place for extermination. If the Knights and the White God understand that, so should we.

Also worth noting:
Rampires use blood for healing and powering up, and will happily drink the blood of their enemies.
If the vampires win, any survivors wont necessarily be weaker, especially if they are sorcerers as well.

If the Fomor win, they're gone. They are amphibious. We cant follow.

And is that enough to instantly change the "character" of the location? Especially given that it is a place that is/was heavily steeped in the Fomor's influence? I don't know the answer to that question, but I'm guessing that it's not enough that it would be easy.
Plus even if they could, they would be crossing over with no idea of what is on the other side. Which is as I understand it, a very bad idea. A desperation move at the very best.

The Reds getting away with gossamer would be bad. Which is why we aren't going to let them. We are going to be killing them. Plain and simple. Teaming up with them would in fact seem to me to make more likely that they might be able to get away with gossamer, by pulling a fast one/successful betrayal on us.

Letting the Reds leave would be bad for reasons beyond just the number of people they will kill in the future. Reasons like: Their knowledge of our capabilities. Or the fact that they would now know we have the gossamer. I would much rather there be no witnesses to report back on us.

And just because other people in other circumstances have had to refrain from destroying evil because of practical concerns, doesn't mean we should excuse evil here and now. Especially since we have the power to do so. There are 18 vampires. There will likely be far fewer once they are done fighting the Fomor. Perfectly within our capability to vanquish.

As long as we don't stupidly screw up the timing nobody is going to be getting away with anything (except for us). And doesn't Lydia have charms specifically for hunting down enemies? Between that, our flight, and our crown and our sub, I don't think anyone is getting away from us. Not while carrying a container of gossamer too.

So I see little benefit in teaming up with them, and significant costs.

I also object on ground of just wanting to keep things simple. Commandeering the Red Court Vampires here to help us on the assault is an extra complication. Keep things simple. We don't need to try and scare a bunch of Red Court vampires into doing what we want. We can just let them do what they were going to do anyway, because it was already pretty close to what we wanted. Waiting and then attacking when the opportunity arises is not being cute. It's the simplest tactic in existence.

Basically I think that the idea that they will escape and we will lose out on the gossamer if we wait is incorrect.

almost definitely yes like the place doesn't need a deep history just right now themes to enter the nevernever. Whampires just need general debauchery in their vicinity it doesn't need some slaanesh stuff for said passages. Recent or deep history is what I assume the base is for these things if they want passages. like a gangfight or a war.

Still would be a blind jump with no way of knowing what is on the other side. Very risky at the very best.

Still, I suppose it's a valid concern but it's a concern we can eliminate. By eliminating the one who could do it.

So let me adjust my vote:

[X] Let the vampires go first, you will clean up the winner afterwards
-[X] Target whichever vampires look to be able to do magic first.

An ambush is the perfect time to eliminate the mages after all. If we kill them first they won't be able to open a gate.

1)Thomas can cross over from the NeverNever at the Raith Deeps because he was almost killed there.
All Raiths can use strip clubs and the like because sex/lust; Thomas did this with Michael as a passenger.
There is as far as Im aware no requirement that it be repeated for any extra period of time on one spot. Once the threshold is met, its been met.

2)You want to let them go ahead, wait for the two factions to fight it out, then take our time to enter the base in their wake.
Thats basically begging for someone to get out with the loot.

Murphy's law is still a thing in this setting, and we would be attempting to walk through an unfamiliar base with unfamiliar hazards while watching out for any lurking opposition in the shadows.
You are badly mistaken if you think its something that can be done at speed.

In a chase, the runner always has the advantage over the pursuer, because the pursuer has to watch for traps, fakeouts and ambushes from the runner. The runner doesnt.
Same principle.

3)And yes, its potentially perilous to blind jump into the NeverNever. For humans. Much less so for vamps.
Red Court vampires survive and regenerate gunshots to the head as long as they retain blood in the belly. Thats why they never wear armor in canon. There's a reason Im rather pleased that Transcendent Anathema is a thing and allows us to deal Agg.

4)It is precisely the reason we should pay attention to their example.

We are barely a month and half as an Infernal; paying attention to how things are done and why is literally why we have Michael as a Mentor 5. This is neither the time nor the place for moral crusading. The immediate satisfaction of arranging the death of a Rampire task force pales in comparison to increasing the risk of letting magic plutonium get away into hostile hands.

Especially given how quickly Rampires can replace mooks.

5)Not to mention that Molly has read Lord of the Rings.
Critically, the lesson of Gollum: Never be too quick to kill, even where its deserved. There's a reason why routinely killing your enemies in the presence of alternative practical solutions is explicitly right there in the ExWoD sourcebook as devaluing the value of your soul.

6) We are an Infernal Exalt and heir to a Hell. Our father wields Amoracchius, our brother dates the daughter of a death god, our crush is a wizard of the White Council and half brother of a Whampire, and we have a job offer from someone who is both a magic contractor for a Mafia boss and liegesworn to Odin, who is also Santa Claus,.

Simplicity was never an option.

It doesnt require a mage.
ANY vampire can cross over into the NeverNever at a place of personal or species significance.
They only need a mage if they're opening a gate at a random spot.

For example, Thomas took Michael out of the NeverNever at a strip club during the events of Grave Peril, a place of species significance. He later opened a gate to guide Marcone and a full group of Einherjar from Chicago to the Raith Deeps in White Night, a place of personal significance. And while he can do some minor cantrips, he certainly isnt a mage.

If you want to kill every Rampire capable of opening a gate at a spot where bloodshed took place, you need to kill all of them.
Thats how it works.
