Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Bleh, I knew whoever we picked last time between the two of them was going to permanently be the more favorable option. Xia Anxi is the best variety character to add to our growing circle, our serious soldier spot is already at least partially filled by Xia Lin and Xia Anxi is just so fun to bully, he's a good Xiao Fen stand-in. Lao Keung also makes more sense to keep by Meizhen's side in the bleak wilderness that we'll be inhabiting purely from a bodyguard perspective. She can also afford to lose Xia Anxi more until the summit or meeting of Little Xiangmen.

Pretty easy unless someone makes an insanely good argument otherwise.

Tentatively leaning on this one. One more martial focused help seems better for our wildlands (especially since we know our lands get invaded semi-regularly). It could also be a good way to have more of an insight as to those discontent with the previous Bai workings, meaning they might be the ones most hopeful about the new Bai changes.

We already have a bunch of soldier characters. Let's take a guy with a unique narrative spot with us.

Is there such a thing as too many buff, burly soldier types?

The answer is no.

People are also forgetting that they all might be soldier types but they have vastly different responsibilities, areas of expertise and tactics

No poaching Meizhen's guard captain, we can have fun boolying the poet snek

Xia Anxi just doesn't feel like he really has his own independent story, while Lao Keung carries with him the "lower castes of the Bai" arc that's only really been touched upon briefly in the main plot. Sun Shao has a strong historical tie there, and he's (very likely) going to be an intermediate villain, so from a storytelling arc perspective I'd like to get more involved in that plot while we can. Getting Lao Keung in on the ground floor means we get more of his opinion on the structure of a society, which is a good fit for that.

I'm happy with either

His character seems simpler and I trust Yrsillar enough to suspect he's not. I wanna know what's up there. I'm voting Beefsnake

Either is fine, even if I'd prefer Lao Keung to be the offering to the Qibowl. I think Lao Keung's insight into our fief added to Xia Lin's and Gan Guangli's is critical at this stage. And given the star shenanigans, it might be best to bring him along to expose him to the stuff. That way when Bai Meizhen actually moves along the route, she's better protected.

However, coming along with us, is kinda what Xia Anxi is there for. And he's kinda vibing with Qi. Even if I'd prefer Xuan Shi or Meng Dan, I would be okay to see Bai Xia Anxi (and his arts) become husbando.
