Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
On the one hand I want to see all the weird nooks and crannies of the dreams of Xiangmen. On the other hand
Ling Qi rose smoothly to her feet, and bowed, wincing a bit at the little jostle it gave her still healing arm. It would still be another few days before she could remove the cast.
Well. The other hand is still in a cast after our most recent dream adventure

Ezpz vote, we've already done our derring-do for the arc, time to take it easy (for LQ at least) for a bit.

[X] Refuse, you can't give a promise without seeing things yourself (All options remain open)

Aren't we gonna loot stories in the big tree for uncle skelly? Gotta keep our options open then.

-Pre-imperial cultivation in Diao territory may have links to human sacrifice.
I feel this isn't really a good reading of what she said. Ling Qi suggests in the section of text you quoted that the abandonment of the fox-blooded children is a twisted, broken reflection of the old religion (but what that religion looks like is questionable, Ling Qi didn't investigate that part). What it is saying is that Ling Qi has a means to investigate and potentially prove that adopting imperial religious practices was a mistake, something that any revivalist faction within the Diao will have been saying for centuries, as well as potentially cast the stewardship of the region into doubt.

Like as a weapon against the Diao, the information Ling Qi glimpsed with Su Ling would be enough to push for a power play among the clan if not spark an uprising against Diao rule from among their various vassals. Turning that over to the Diao with the statement that "this doesn't need to become an official matter", and the revelation that there might be other spirit bloods with divination talents, is both a threat, a peace offering, and the casual reveal that they have the hope diamond all in one.

Its not what she said or intended.

It definitely could be read to have found such links

I think we've risked our lives enough recently, let's at least finish recovering from the last one before we jump into a new one.

Well then!

"To an extent," Diao Hualing said, shrugging. "If family is found for these children, then the households would be responsible."

Ling Qi furrowed her brow. That was a fair point, but…

"But some surveillance can be arranged, as the spirit may escalate if it's cultivation is disrupted," Diao Hualing continued blithely.
That is as good as a resolution as we could have hoped for at this current point in time. Kids will be given to households and Su Ling will be able to observe and check on them herself.
Su Ling will have a very strong opinion about the favour she is going to owe us.

"To be a Master, this is an intimate thing. Neither I nor you have arrived at this," Shu Yue said.
Well we were denide the aunt/uncle (I don't know the gender-neutral equivalent and a quick google search gave to many options …) status from her for now but we are on a good way! She needed to think about it at least.

Shu Yue's fingers stopped tapping, and their thin lips curved into a smile. "I am not one of those swords, but perhaps, if you come to the conclusion that I am unjust, that your world cannot tolerate my existence."
Hm haven't thought about it but She Yue joined Shenhua after she had taken Xingmen. And back then she was probably too weak to be of any major help. If I remember correctly she was a third realm when she was captured?
But to be honest the more I read about our Mentor in the art of 'problem solving' the more I like her.

"Then I would ask that you remain among the eaves. You are not ready for what sleeps in the roots of Xiangmen, I would ask your promise on this, though I have no authority to force you."

"You could easily stop me, if you wished," Ling Qi pointed out.

A pale face tilted to the side. "That is not my role."
SY: Look Kid, the stove is hot. Do not touch it.
LQ: You could stop me from touching it.

I am inclined to follow the advice of someone who has probably a lot of expertise in this aspect of the God Tree.
And maybe if we don't have too many options we may finally have our nice Party with Six.

Thinking about it, it might be that the rootways are uniquely risky for Qi due to her background. She's usually had little difficulty with the Dream side of parties and other 'noble' stuff, just deny their reality and move through.

But as we saw in the Foxdream, if you hit her with dreamshaping that demands that she is weak and alone in the cold, she can't deny it. It hits too close to home.

Thats why the revels of the lords and ladies of the land are safer than the darkness of the roots for her. By contrast I suspect Gan would do fine down there.

I think we should space our near-death dream experiences at least a little bit.
I'm thinking about that Nightmare of Long Knives dream location that needed a Dreamwalker trait of rank 10. The places in the roots would be likely kind like that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Su Ling's adventure pushed us to rank 2, and the Dreaming Gala Art Action will get us to 3, right? Maybe 4 depending on what happens in the dream.

Despite how awesome the Dream is and how much time we spend in there, the truth is we are still very, very new in it.
I don't have any problem making this promise, as we would have likely shied away from any place with a meta-neon-danger-sign on it anyway.
We wouldn't want to aggraviate our wounds before such an important event as the auction. That would be catastrophic.

Really, we need to up our relationships so that when we inevitably have to fight them years down the line in a bloody revolution it's rich with drama.

If there's one thing we can count on Shenhua to do, it is to tell the TRUTH - and she said Shue Yue is here to protect us and see that we have the opportunity to reach our full potential.
So, if they say "don't go into the roots of Xiangmen", we shouldn't be going.
