The Dawi in Arda (Hiatus)

Are there plans for an interlude to shed light on the Elven POV of our crowning and swearing in ceremony? Wondering what the local views would be on us so far, and how at-ease the elves really were for 3 straight days of oath-giving, or even how surprised etc they were.

Ahhh, I just really want some alt-POVs of the Dawi I guess.

@Warkeymon I'm curious, in char gen we picked the younger leader.

Have we had any instances where the higher expectations but more obedient elders would have changed things compared to what we got?

Get some brewers drunk with those new engineers (and the chemists we're gonna train up) and they might be able to bash something together :D

It occurs to me that given the magic of Arda is drawing from or discording the Great Music, and that Eldar are deeply tied to fate, that the Rune of Fate for our gift to Glorfindel could be very cruel.

[X] [Udrabax] Write-In: Ask him of his clan and lineage's history, of the urk, grobi, and harbgrobi that plague these mountains. Speak of your slaying of the under city that was infested with the grobi so they might know that any such Grudges they bear against them can be struck out. Ask about the second moon.

[X] [Glorfindel] Write-In: Speak to him of the Great Eagles that circle your goat flocks, and of the one beardling that did good service in guarding a goat from them...if young enough to succumb to the allure of a youngling great eagle himself. Ask Glorfindel what he knows of the Gold Sickness these 'rings of sauron' cause, for if you are to mediate, you must be able to account for such alterations of the mind

[X] [Thain] Go after inviting a delegation to visit our hold.

We could learn more now but I'm fine holding off on it until they visit us. I suspect we'll be a little more convincing or respected after they've seen our work and our numbers. While stopping a war is nice we don't have the history or sway to do anything about it yet.
Current write in seems like it overreaches though the style is excellent. Tweaked the first prompt to add question about the second moon.

Lord of Udrabax
At Udrabax you spend some time conversing with the Lord of that Hall through Glorfindel. Write-In a topic be it from the Fated Place or Middle-Earth to discuss with the Lord of Udrabax.

Glorfindel
Your journey saw plenty of time to speak with Glorfindel. Write-In a topic be it from the Fated Place or Middle-Earth to discuss with him.

I changed my mind as far as Thain.

Yeah lets just flex on them.

He might not be able to do anything based on his visions.
Or it will be the exact opposite. The Rune of Fate, afterall, wasn't made so that all the user could do was see an inevitable, unchangable, future. Indeed it was designed for the express purpose of defying Fate. To see what the skeins of Fate held and navigate them. Alter them.

In this way he, as one so tied to fate, might be able to use its abilities better than anyone else. Where before they were a powerless ship, designed to float and traverse the water yet with no way to actually effect their course, helpless to the tides, the Rune of Fate might actually give them a proverbial sail or engine by which to move. To change their course and heading.

Elrond is going to have to be the adult in this relationship, but
Truth be told, he has a certain point.

It would only be fair to consider your family jewels taken by a Dragon and then retaken by someone else as being stolen once more. The Umgi had sacred right by conquest, yet if there is a Grudge to settle, the Dawi could have wanted them returned by force. Just keep this in mind when passing judgement.
Yeah, Dawi can be every bit as unbending, though they're usually super up front about it. Honestly, the weirdest part of this qiest has been the "3 years an we're already inviting Elgi into the throne hall.". The Dawi are not that open minded.

I too am a bit hesitant to potentially damage our earl relation with the dwarves too much (Even if atm they definately seem a poor man's dawi)

...if we do bring the king of durins folk into karak drekfort, is it possible that the rune of balance may diminish the influence of the ring?

Alternatively will bringing an artifact of Sauron writhin the hold expose us to his sight which we have just successfully hidden from

Because they're not Elgi.
And the entire hold is just going to accept that within a few years? Even the Dawi in direct contact were remarkably credulous of the Noldor claiming not to be at all Elgi. The Dawi are a suspicious and stubborn lot, it makes them survivors but it can't be glossed over. The stories fine, Im just pointing this out because I feel the need to. Gotta be right on the internet and all.

I simultaneously get what your saying and don't find it unreasonable. But I think it's difficult to grasp how much time has passed and how small of a hold this is.

If this were the entire Karaz Ankor I would 100% agree that it would take decades for the difference to be accepted. But this a hold of what 3 - 4 thousand Dawi?

Every dwarf likely knows at least one of those who stood on the gate and had the lengthy initial conversations with the not-elgi. And I have no doubt that much grumbling was had over the course of the year about how the elgi think they can pull a fast one on the dawi like they were beardlings all. These discussions go on for a year.

Then glorfindel comes along and a series of lengthy conversations are had between him and the king. Meanwhile elves begin to occasionally arrive at the gate and have chats, to the point that both begin to learn each other's languages.

Now the dwarves will still grumble about what is happening but increasingly it does seem like this is a pretty long and intricate con for the elgin to pull. Especially when they provide exquisite craft as gifts and seem to have developed an entire mythology and seemingly culture separate from the one that the elves are extremely devoted to and proud of. And again, basically, every single dwarf in Drekfort knows someone who stands on those gates and is having conversations with the Noldor. And who are coming away increasingly befuddled by their conversations

Eventually, after lengthy discussions with Glorfindel the king announces that these aren't elves of Ulthuan but are instead Noldor. And some Dawi are still thinking that this is some kind of trick. But they're willing to still their tounges until the elves finally reveal themselves and they can grumble satisfactorily that they were right about perfidious Ulthuan and all that.

So there was likely lots of side-eye and grumbling at the Eldar at the ceremony. But the elves themselves...do nothing. They nod and smile and clap when appropriate. They call every Dawi they meet 'master dwarf' and are generally just the ideal guests.

Now that still won't convince everyone and if this had been months or even a full year I would also be a bit iffy. But the tiny size of Drekfort Ankor and the general strangeness of the situation does make me think that even the more stubborn dawi would (grudgingly) go along with it.

...sorry, this was not meant to be a long diatribe. Just kinda kept going as I wrote

The winning vote was actually for the older leader. You're a Longbeard rather than a Greybeard. It's what causes low rolls in a row to bring down the happiness of clans and stops them just going and fixing the problem themselves with one of their dice.

@Lonkas the rune of balance could diminish the power of the ring, but it is hard to say if it will happen, both runes and rings are a very soft form of magic, we have no "chart of power" to compare, no rune is invincible.

Can I suggest to not make a merchant quarter with any urgency?
We are going around tring to pass ourself as a diplomacy hold but have no place to put any important delegation, a passerby isn't going to complain to sleep on his own travel bed, a dwarfen and human king probably would.
Besides we are currently producing metal stuff food and stonecraft, and we will probably stop making steel trinket very soon, so a merchant will have little to buy from us anyway.
@Skitzyfrenic my bad about the braid in front stuff, I read into it more than there was.
Lotro stuff is quite interesting, now we know in this particular situation to not be the case, but maybe Warkey has taken from lotro to make Udrabax, was it the case?
I wasn't tring to correct you on how to spell anything, it was just supposed to be part of the explanation on why any help would be composed of Noldor or Dawi. I am truly the last person on this site that can correct spelling, half of the reason I am here is to exercise my terrible writen english (feel free to correct it). I am sorry for the miscomunication incurred becose of it.
My research are occasional readings trougth a wiki and youtube videos.

I actually don't think this is a huge issue, we hosted Elrond and Glorfindel in our own quarters. Which admittedly from memory are a bit plain for a lord's residense. But they didn't complain/didnt seem particularly put out so i don't think a dwarf or human king would either
