On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Hmm, yeah I'll add the heart, it'll mess up the tally a bit due to some folks copying the whole plan sadly. Still going to do Eltharin next turn and work on Akazit's opening the turn after. I don't want a Gronti to get in the way of that and would oppose building one on those turns.
I feel after this incident people will really want to rush finishing the Movement line if only due to how absolutely miffed a lot of people are that we keep putting off the super gronti. Not helped that a lot of people feel we seriously blew a big chance to make a super gronti because we didn't make any preparations. So people are probably really wanting to avoid any repeats like this.

On that note why is there a hurry to do Akazit and Eltharin? I'm really not seeing it, especially since they likely have their own tech trees that are going to take forever to go through as well.

[x] Plan We Have a Fulcrum, Let's Make the Grimnir Gronti.

I have no objection to the cloak beyond using a one of a kind tier five reagent that we have not researched for a non-master rune which may not work with it. That is wasteful on a level I cannot condone. As such even if I am a little unhappy with the vagueness of the Grimnir Gronti at this stage and that we are not ready to use the brain on it, I prefer that to risking wasting such a rare resource. There will be other storms of magic, there will not be other brains of Kholek Suneater so I would rather risk not get the most out of this storm then risk wasting an irreplaceable resource.
I don't see much reason for why it wouldn't work. We asked Soul about Dragon Ogre Shaggoth brains and normal Dragon Ogre brains and he gave an answer of the general idea of coordination and control, higher level than 'get hot, transfer energy' for their brains. Kholek was a magic wielding sorcerer-lord who directed his magic with his will, which lived in his brain and soul, and was a being basically inundated with lightning as a natural state of being. Put these three features together and a logical conclusion is that it would add control and coordination of the lighting rune.

so i like the proposed cloak, but i dont see how it synergizes with our current main pieces of gear.

Akazit just sounds fun. That troll heart problem we had this turn? Just toss a regular one into the alchemy machine and pop out a higher tier one tailored to the Master Rune in question.

Also, I like the idea of Snorri eventually selling Akazit made reagents to other runesmiths enmass and having the general quality of runework go up via better reagents.

Idk, I could be totally wrong about what it does but the ideas sound fun.

I'm pretty sure the main issue with basing things on assumptions is due to how in a lot of quests basing things entirely on assumptions with certain decisions has bitten players in the ass and sometimes really badly. Like something sounds like it makes sense only for it to be wrong and players having serious regrets after wards. Hence why people would really prefer to rely on cold hard facts and surety rather than taking a needless risk. One of the big ones being that we may be missing a lot about it due to not researching it.

The fact that people insist we use a one of kind item instead of several other things we fully understand is not helping people's anxieties.

Yorri was prodding us so hard to get on it that if we were human I would have accused him of attempted murder via stabbing so combined with its amazing potential its become quite the appealing choice.

The Akazit potential is absurd, Yorri is emphasizing that, Eltharin means we can read all their books on magic we have lying around, and the fun times that come with having an Elven tutor.

Wanted the gronti, considered our mats and...I'm not sufficiently satisfied at their readiness, so completing the set it is

Okay i get Akazit but Eltharin seems like it would take way, way long to benefit from. What with not just learning the language but then the likely multi step project for researching the magic books. Especially since the magic is likely extremely different from how Dwarfs use the winds of magic. So while I get finishing the first step on Akazit think we should wait a bit before even starting with Eltharin if only because it feels like we'd actually be able to finish the super gronti project in a fraction of the time.

We need Eltharin to do Akazit at all, and reading is done on its own. We haven't needed research to read any of the translated books after all.

Kind of assumed that after unlocking Akazit that it was going to be a long multi step process like with a lot of our other projects to reach the end. Especially since it was implied that it was indeed going to be a really long learning process. Same with Eltharin seeming like it would unlock a number of other things. Hence the first step after unlocking Akazit. As long we don't immediately try to research any of the potential stuff that researching Eltharin may unlock right away and actually stick with learning the first steps of Akazit I'm cool with us researching them.

You are still making a lot of assumptions. Namely that just throwing an irreplaceable resource at something arguably related to it will still get our full bang for our buck out of it. Now if you actually happen to have proof that Kholek's brain wont be wasted on the lightening rune, I would love to here it. But until then you are gambling with an irreplaceable resource when we do not have too, and that is not something I am going to sign on for.
