Strengthening cultural ties and sharing history and the like will go a long way to smoothing things out in the future. Especially relevant because Imperials tend..........assholes and everyone knowing what to expect of each would keep cultural misunderstanding from being problems, therefore giving diplomats the ability to focus on the problems that arise due to conflicts of interest rather than the ones that crop up on accident.

It is, however, much slower.

Pushing for an exchange of people on the other hand would be a faster yes. But it also doesn't give the wider cushion of a broader understanding of each other's cultures that the first option does. Which means that damage control due to insults, intentional or otherwise, is likely going to be more frequent.

I'm also not sure how good an idea bringing in White Sky people is right now. Like, first question where would they stay? The Argent Sect? Xiangmen?

Either one feels like a bad idea and that's not factoring whole war going on right now. While any White Sky diplomats aren't likely to be fighting, if they get caught up in it or worse killed that could end really badly.

[x] Push for an exchange of people. You can't stay, but in speaking with your companions Meng Dan has volunteered and assured you his aunt would approve. Bringing back someone nobles of the Emerald Seas can see and speak too would surely help.

Let's bring a friend to our lands!

In other words, if we want to be able to leverage our connections to the White Sky now, with the war between the Argent Sect, the Cloud Tribes, and the Shishigui still ongoing, we need to exchange hostages diplomats.

Otherwise whatever conclusion to the war is coming will be made without White Sky input, and probably without ours, too: we've kind of ticked off the Argent Sect and slow-boating the diplomacy, while probably a good idea in the long term, means we've got less to prove our "peaceful communications" thing can show dividends right now.

And whatever peace comes, while probably short-lived, will set the stage for the next war.

[X] Don't press your luck more than necessary, you've established good relations, let things grow from there

Sharing information woul be nice. Letting things grow over time is fine as well.

Leave an accompanied young man behind? How scandalous. :V

I don't think there to be any reason to choose this. Keeping things still or sedate doesn't seem very Ling Qi -like and just barely passing minimum requirements when you could do more doesn't seem like something that liege would approve of either.

Cultural ties were rationale we used for arguing this expedition and it is easier to copy book than a person. This seems like it would not change anything significant, but would establish that our arguments were reasonable. This seems safer option than just passing barely minimum requirements from point of view of pleasing liege.

Exchange seems like it would be better for establishing relations - but I am worried that warmongering faction from Argent sect and conservative factions from Emerald Seas would cause serious trouble and require significant skills from visiting dignitaries to deal with in positive manner.

Meng Dan would probably do fine - hogging limelight for greater glory of Meng - and he probably already has ideas how to improve relations further if this option is chosen.

I think that this option would be best because while it can go wrong it also shows constructive ambition that pushes for change.

Hm. I'd argue that the biases, or lack of them for various factions will determine their reaction far more than any cultural misunderstandings. So what is far more important than an airtight case is a stage large enough that enough Emerald Seas nobles are persuaded of the merits to serve as foundation for positive relations with the White Sky, and with the Argent Sect tournament announcing a Cai/Bai alliance the Emerald Seas' inter-sect tournament should be at near record high attendance level, which should give the ES*/CRX/LQ an audience to argue their case simply due a foreign exchange student being exotic to the Empire.

Also I'd expect it to be the Argent Sect as the Cai parties would give the ES/CRX/LQ practice for the real deal involving adult cultivators at the inter-sect tournament, and identification of Argent Sect students who will serve as allies. Because the presence of the ES will give the nobility another axis to dig into the opposition with their social dagger along during the parties.

In regards to the safety of the ES during the war... isn't it going to be more dangerous as time goes on? Given the 12 star confederation are still explicitly in the mustering face for the war, and unless they're willing to take a swing at the Emerald Seas nobility with a White in attendance during the inter-sect tournament things should be fine until the Sect Head dies.

*Exchange Student.
