Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

That isn't what happened, though. Ling Qi was directly asked to clarify her position as Emissary, which lead directly to her relationship with Zeqing and Hanyi. Unless she lied or refused, which they wouldn't have liked either, there was no way around explaining things to them.
Yes! However Ling Qi could have deflected and been deliberately vague about the details as Jaromila was clearly willing to accept alternate answers that Ling Qi knew were incorrect. But due to our Sincere Negotiator as well as penchant for proceeding with matters honestly and without misunderstanding we have specifically broached a topic which was clear in the moment that it would be a surprising answer given the confusion of Jaromila.

It would have been a Lie by omission, but one that could easily have been played off as Jaromila making a mistake on her part rather than an outwardly deliberate deception by Ling Qi.

I'm not saying I agree with CRX, but merely that choosing to be so transparent with this matter has complicated the negotiations with additional subjects that are not on topic with the main goal of this expedition.

Between interpreting the mural through a biased, imperial lense, and actually talking and asking questions to people who're intimately familiar with their own culture, the latter is bound to produce more results when it comes to understanding a foreign culture.

Perhaps the other option would have let us simply get away with the misunderstanding, but we didn't choose that vote. We chose the fully truthful one

Honestly, this. This is the most interesting thing here that we probably won't get informed about in some adequate way later.

It sounds like Meng Dan is going to try get his guards to tell him stories as he looks at the mural, so I don't think it's going to be just him trying to interpret it.

Moratorium over!

Spirituality seems very important to these people. We're an actively practicing adherent of the moon, but we don't understand the nature of the local moon all that well. I think we can learn a lot about the role of the moon by examining the role of the sun in their cultural practices, and it should also shed light on the gender politics. Any help we can get with understanding their religious system should help give context for the conversation over Hanyi, even if it's an indirect examination of values.

The Meng Dan option probably touches on this as well, but my current focus is on contemporary practices rather than history. There's always value in seeing where a people has come from, or what they enshrine as their history, but we should be focusing on somewhat more immediate affairs, I think.

Ok, I'm going with Gan and the Sun Shrine. On the one hand I'm intrigued by the Sun's role in White Sky society and in the greater spirit cosmological war. This is likely to have bearing not just on this quest, but well beyond it. On the other hand I have faith that CRX and Meng Dan will be able to extract the maximum info possible from their investigations without Ling Qi's assistance. They'll fill us in if they discover anything important. And as much as I'd like to seek Xia Lin out I'm inclined to agree that she needs a little time on her own to unwind. Now is not the time.
