Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Not only do we know CRX the best, but I honestly think that we have an advantage on leveraging her domain to help break the hold. Temptation to stay should be minimal once she realizes that its a dream.
This. This is the attitude I'm worried about. Yes, CRX will easily break out from the dream if she realizes it's a dream, but so will Xia Lin - she would refuse to stay in an imaginary world and stagnate in real life - and Gan Guangli is driven enough I'm confident the same would be true for him. (Meng Dan might be tempted to stay, I can't say for certain.)

The hard part in every case will be convincing them that their dream is a dream. CRX's small number of closely related desires means her dream will be more coherent and resilient than anyone else's, and it will be harder to give her that "this doesn't make sense" moment that will snap her out of it.

People talk about "no trap votes," but that just means that all of the options have pros and cons behind the GM screen. There are, however, options intended to lull us into a false sense of security before the obvious consequences happen.

If CRX isn't deliberately intended as a trap option of that second sort, then I'll eat my hat. If no one lays out all the myriad ways that it's the most unwise choice, I'll make a crack at it later, but I think everyone should at least have the basic intuition that it's a dangerous choice. Can we at least agree on that much?
Strong agree.

But we have no reason to assume this?

The discussion with the Yukionna had that comment be made in a "She was tougher than the others to lead astray", i.e having less desires made it trickier for the spirit. Yes there is less to work with and so efforts must be concentrated on those small things, but there is also less to work with. CRX has consistently been a character that it is hard to decieve, tempt, or otherwise suborn and that resistance should carry forward.

However, any given person's resistance to the spirit's wiles is a secondary concern. Because what we're doing here is going to primarily involve the relationship between Ling Qi and whoever we pick, Ling Qi's Domain, and her skills at speaking. And in this group of people, CRX is the one Ling Qi knows best and is most connected with.

We've spent the past 11 months working with her actively, and have had character development through all of that.

I could probably go on and list a dozen odd reasons for why CRX is the best, but I don't think I need to.

E: I think one of the obvious consequences of picking it is getting bitch slapped by Liming at some point during the ordeal, but honestly that is not a deal breaker to me.

I want to see more of Gan since we see and interact with Cai a lot even if CRX feels like a the natural choice.

Out of all the people here, we know Cai Renxiang the best. We barely know Meng and Xia, and while we've had glimpses of Gan Guangli, he has no personal connection with Ling Qi. Some say he's learned his lesson from the Outer Sect and thus would be easier to convince, but one flaw does not a person make. Much like Ling Qi, he's a bundle of hidden heart demons that we don't know about but the Cyan spirit definitely does. Our own Spirits, save for the Liming nuclear option, also won't be of any help, since we're facing something very far above us who's willing to stack the deck in their favor.

The only leverage we have here is how intimately we understand someone, and that someone would be Cai Renxiang.

I think that Meng Dan is a good choice because of shared understanding of dreams. I would expect that it would be easy to convince him to consider that what he is experiencing is a dream and then he should be able to perceive it as a dream - after that it should be possible to convince him that he cannot achieve his dreams in his dreams so he should wake up
Not so sure. It should be possible to convince him it's a dream, but Ling Qi experienced a fairly similar thing when Zeqing died, and she had great difficulty resisting the dream, despite having just as much understanding and experience with dreams and quickly realizing it was not real

I would actually say we are the greater expert on dreams between us and Meng Dan. We are far more focused on the dreaming moon side, and we are much more experienced with the Liminal. We might not be as versed in it's academic lore, but on general understanding and experience of dreams, we definitely are better than Meng Dan

I believe in our big beautiful boy , and I'm guessing his dreams will be easier to poke at than the huge tangle of issues that Cai is probably dealing with.

Alright so I'm pretty confident CRX is very much so the high risk, and high reward option. The reason being her exposure to an inhuman white that is her mother has removed a lot of the nuances that a spirit like this would find difficult to replicate, which is how she can be influenced despite having very little darkness in her heart.

Also the consequences of Liming needing to bail the party out will likely involve the spirit marking LQ as a deal breaker perhaps permanently, or at the very least until they get back to the Sect.

Regardless this seems to provide the most interesting narrative due to Ling Qi previously expressing a desire to break through to CRX, and based upon the spirit calling CRX hollow I think Ling Qi will be rather surprised by what she finds, which might result in reflection on the issues Ling Qi herself has.

Finally upgrading Woodwind in a manner similar to the previous rank seems liable to be the start a soft requirement for the next level of seeking out spirit similar to her mentor for challenges, or at least that is what I'd expect.
