[X] It can't hurt to try. The Weilu are ancient after all, surely most everyone had a drop or two of their blood in them. Imagine how useful it would be, to claim some ancient connection.

Having your big expensive tapestry self destruct because a servant touched it seems like a design flaw. Also, you carried it up here.
I figured, I just wanted to be absolutely sure if there was a difference between carrying it and activating it. Because these jackasses do seem like the type to have a "and if you aren't of the bloodline you will be punished for your insolence" component to their genealogy checker.

[X] There was no need for it. The character for Ling meant 'Zero' and that is what she had started as. If there were any lineage she would claim, it was her teachers, claimed through her own effort.

We suspect we were invited by ice lady because as Zequing's student we ping as part of her linage or something of the sort. It seems fitting to choose the option that follows that sentiment.

*Commoner Nobody touches tapestry*
"You… slave, dare wield art against touch me?"
Is spelled out in giant gold letters.
SHAME ON YOUR NON EXISTENT LINE. SHAME.

A martial lineage of masters and students doesn't cancel out family, though. If what you say was true, we would never have written to Qingge and brought her to the Argent Sect. We have never made any pretense that our biological family doesn't exist because we were taught by Zeqing and I don't see why we'd start now.

I think Ling Qi's values around lineage will be defined more firmly by what we present to the Ice Lady, if we play on Zequing's teachings or focus on possible blood connections.

Gonna go with my first gut reaction here. I'm fine either way however.

Mainly because we are interested in family and it would be interesting to find out if we have any other blood relations (not that they are family though).

Weren't we descended from the servant family of some random low level cultivators? I don't have the time to go and look for the exact passage, but we already know about a connection to our ancestors and could probably carry it from there if we really tried. It's not like we have no clue of where we came from after we learned that. Might as well get the full picture.
Mama Qingge was part of the He family, which were servants to the Luo Liu (Thanks, @Vanguard_D!); they should have a common ancestor somewhere several generations ago, the direct line descendant keeping the Liu name and the one that didn't have a prayer to inherit anything changing to He. Papa Dusk-Skin-Blue-Eyes could be anything, including nothing; I suspect he's of Cloud Tribe blood, but that actually has no base whatsoever. As far as we know we are descended from the seventh son of the seventh son (and so on) of the last known Weilu heir; if no other bloodlines are closer, that's what the book should show. That wouldn't mean we have more than a few measly genes in common, just that we have even less with the other people listed on the book.

If it was just that, then this would not have been a vote in the first place. After all, its not like Ling Qi would lose/gain anything if she did so right?

But it IS a vote, meaning that it matters what Ling Qi decides to do. And I would rather follow through on my choice of not picking Grandmistress Lei and have Ling Qi be the start of her own journey, instead of relying on whatever person her blood relates to.
This is a quest, not a roleplay; we can't pick every action that Ling Qi performs, so besides the momentous votes, there are also emblematic votes. The former are about affecting the progression of the plot, like the one we had when Sun Liling ambushed us as we were climbing the mountain in the outer sect. That one could easily have ended up with Ling Qi taking a beating, captured, and permanently stripped of Dress-chan. The latter are votes about inconsequential things or foregone conclusions but which serve as precedent for how the Main Character will behave in similar situations. When CRX told us to do mingle with the nobles, we could choose to do it with a positive attitude or dragging our feet, but it would end up being done regardless. The point of the choice is to not have to make similar selections for a while.
