Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
[] There was no need for it. The character for Ling meant 'Zero' and that is what she had started as. If there were any lineage she would claim, it was her teachers, claimed through her own effort.

Honestly after thinking this for awhile this has for myself a few too many similarities with the direct subordinates of Shenhua not caring about the Past, and focusing on the Future for me to pick. Furthermore we can look to the CRX interlude about Xia Lin being rootless as for how such things can be important to others, and I'd expect there to be plenty of clans who place important in their history, which is a perspective LQ is liable to have issue relating to with this option.

Because whatever end goal Ling Qi decides she wishes to achieve in life it is the nature* of cultivation to force the cultivator to reconcile the reason they cultivate with what those who came before left behind, and those who exist in the present.

*As CRX noted to LQ the ripples a cultivator causes through simply existing scale with their cultivation level.

We could have mountain or hill blood instead of Weilu, we might be cousin's with the ice ladies and Hanyi and Zeqing!
The idea that we don't have Weilu blood when our mom comes from a retainer clan to a Viscount house is pretty damn ridiculous.

This thing isn't gonna tell us anything meaningful about our connection to the ice ladies.
It's kinda nifty, but it pretty explicitly exists so that when a Hui touches it it points out a Weilu ancestor far higher in the line of succession than if anyone else does.
That is its function.
Touching it will tell us how far Ling Qi's last recorded Weilu ancestor was away for the main family branch, which can be politically useful to know for a fact, but is not really how Ling Qi has defined her relationship with anything so far.

So far common background was defined by her through common teachings, perspective, experiences and culture. Not exact tracing of bloodlines.
And that is something we have the opportunity to emphasize here, which I kinda think is worthwhile.

While accountancy part we were more thinking of things like sites and such they had, I wonder if it also details the types and expenses of their decadence that made their ancestor truly pissed off to abandon them.

I already miss Grandmistress Lei's work
Would have probably been a choice about staying true to what we learned from our own experiences or adopting hers.

What if touching the thing when you have Zero connection by blood triggers a trap? It's probably unlikely, but still.
We carried it up, and as Yrs commented a security measure that destroys the Mona Lisa when it is cleaned by a servant is a pretty dumb security measure.

It just feels right to take this. Xin is our teacher too, and she wouldnt want us to reject curiousity. Zeqing was a great teacher, but she wasn't our only one and its wrong to deny that part of us.

As many people have already said, the point of this vote is to determine Ling Qi's attitude towards this. Vote for not touching if you want her first instinct to be about being proud to be a self-made woman, vote for touching it if you want her first instinct to be to touch the magic gizmo to see what happens. It should affect Ling Qi's automatic (not-voted-upon) actions going forward.

As for myself, I can't see Ling Qi not wanting to poke at things even when inconvenient. She is a Greedy Girl™ first and foremost, a Selfish Girl™ second, and a Proud Girl™ somewhere far, far down the line.

Imagine getting grandmaster Leis work and immediately the vote after going "nah I dont need to listen to it, I'm a great artist already." Or some reference to zeqing being our true master" it would be such a wasteeeee

We have been desperately trying to get LQ to be more hidden moon, and explore that aspect of herself. Shes not a nerd, she doesnt care for fiction books, or research etc.

This is a great chance to explore her curiosity more. Even if it just turns out to be "oh yeah you got hill tribe blood cool" it doesnt mean it wasnt worth it if it means ling qi can grow from it.

I don't like the reason for touching it. Personally I feel that this should just be "poke it for fun" and maybe learn some secret ancestor that everyone else probably has.

And I also dont like the reason for not touching it. It removes curiosity.

In my opinion this vote would be better formatted as a choice between doing it in front of Meng vs doing it alone.

[jk] Make it a team building exercise! Let's make everyone in our expeditions touch it on a dare. Mybe best turtle is a descendant of a spirit beast that had Weilu blood. Maybe our dress is made up of Weilu dream corpses. Our liege is a cousin. who knows what we can find.

This thing feels like such a fun party game. We drink tea and try to guess how closely related the new member is.

Moratorium's over

[X] It can't hurt to try. The Weilu are ancient after all, surely most everyone had a drop or two of their blood in them. Imagine how useful it would be, to claim some ancient connection.

Time to show some curiosity. Pride is overrated anyway.

I really like the idea of Curious Girl Ling Qi, but that's not what this vote is about.

It's about "maybe I can use this". And I'm not really into that, even though if the vote were phrased as indulging her curiosity I would be all about touching the thing.

[X] It can't hurt to try. The name "Ling" means "zero", but just because you're starting from zero doesn't mean it won't be fun to find out what the negative numbers were! Also, it's literally inconceivable to look at a "poke me and find out a thing" talisman and NOT poke it, damn it.
