Hmmm...

Question, @yrsillar ... since this dude seems to be a formations specialist, wouldn't it be tactically sound to open by stealing the power source whatever option we choose?

I thiink, the assumption here is that if we take the power souce and make a run for it, the guy will notice. So, taking power source means a carefully prepared sneak attack to take it out in a single shot, catching it off-guard is no longer vialbe if we alert him of our presence by stealing his things.

We pick between having a potential first strike against a stronger, but completely unaware target, and taking the thing, but wasting the perfect opportunity for this backstab.

[X] Eliminate the corpse-immortal now, together you and Xia Lin should be more than its match.

Assuming we discuss the approach to our alpha strike with XL, and given that undeadmcscribble is not aware, we should be able to pull off a decent one. Maybe check in w XL about the best order and way to disrupt the formations in the workshop, she seems to know her stuff.

"Your thoughts mirrored mine then," Xia Lin replied. "But it seems that we both know the truth that one must never cease moving forward."

Ling Qi met Xia Lin's eyes then, and with The Mist still shrouding the battlefield, really looked at the girl, with the full power of her own domain thrumming beneath her armor.

Forward, forward evermore, bound by thy honor alone, strive for the gleaming dawn.

Ling Qi smiled, and gave Xia Lin an acknowledging nod. It seemed they had more in common than she had thought.

I'm pretty sure this is bad and not good, because Ling Qi's "forward" is "change" and Shenhua's forward is "progress towards perfection (which is an End to change)," doubly so when the interlude with Xia Ren and CRX suggests some degree of hostility toward the past in that "progress." It seems pretty reasonable to assume that Xia Lin is using Shenhua's definition, and having motion in different directions set in their Domains is bad for the relationship! The only real upside to this is that so long as Xia Lin doesn't get too specific in her Insights, the "gleaming dawn" can still refer to CRX... But unless that shift happens, this current track seemingly ends in a head-on collision.

Martial advisor: Xia Lin - It is dumb outside its obsession, we can kill it
Piety advisor: Zhengui - It must be destroyed, burn it.
Diplomacy advisor: Hanyi - Its gross
Stewardship advisor: InternalSpreadsheetQi - LOOT LOOT LOOT
Everyone:

[x] Steal the power source and make your exit. Then return with the full party, and eliminate the corpse immortal with overwhelming force.

Narratively this feels like the bit where the hero is overconfident and nearly loses everything.

Hmm.

I don't think Xia Lin's insight is that specific. If we take it to be this:
Forward, forward evermore, bound by thy honor alone, strive for the gleaming dawn.
Then it's a pretty close variation of "the only way out is through." You're going to find stuff like that in every functional military. And neither Ling QI nor CRX are exactly against the existence of a professional military. (Ling Qi tends to want to handle her own family's defense, or ensure they can defend themselves, but she's not opposed to more organized, larger-scale forms of such; CRX's perfect world "wouldn't need" a military, but she doesn't expect to reach it within her lifetime.)

It'd be a problem if Shenhua was the only possible "dawn" for that phrase to refer to, but she's really, really not.

Let's steal the power source of possible defense dormations.

Also, I'm just opposing the hivemind

One thing to note is that this seems like it could be some seriously good loot. The robe and inkbrush seem to be powerful in their own right, let alone whatever pills and supplies the corpse-cultivator keeps in his storage ring.

I 100% agree, but I will say I wouldn't be surprised if the ring's loot was lessened by some in-universe explanation for balance reasons. Maybe he offloaded some stuff as his life deteriorated, maybe the formations started failing as his cultivation did and some stuff spoiled or any other myriad of possible reasons. The reason being this might be the best way for Yrs to balance the situation. After all, if we got full access to a fourth realm, ducal cultivator's stuff without restriction, I feel it may be slightly game breaking. Though I admit I lack a lot of knowledge on the mechanical side so if there is something I'm missing let me know.

If we only had Xia Lin I would be worried, but we also have 3 spirits and this corpse immortal almost certainly doesn't have any. This is a 6 on 1 fight where we get the element of surprise.

Just Because.

Well we likely won't be able to make effective use of much of it for a long time. It's like those sable light pills we got. They were really wasted on a 1st realm. If we had realized how much more effective they would be for someone in the green realm we likely would have sold them for say a thousand red stones which would have helped us more at the time and a third realm likely would have considered themselves lucky to get the pills so cheap.
