We are probably more talented than Yanmei, and I believe yrs was talking about the whole empire, but you are right. I simply pointed out that there aren't many thousands she could pick, though right now there are a lot still

Not likely. The disciples of our year were noted as extremely high quality compared to normal, and there were two, us and Ji Rong. There aren't even one every year at school, not Ducal nor commoner with LQ talent. Every Ducal clan has only a prime cultivators like Meizhen each generation, and commoner(or non ducal nobles) with LQ level of talent are even rarer, there will probably be one or two each year for the province.

Actually while it won't change my mind the high achievement part is likely why Xia Lin wants to take the corpse immortal on beyond simple disgust, and in doing so preform a deed worthy of earning her blade a name. There is likely a degree of pressure on her to outperform Meng Dan even if it seems likely he'll get a retainer slot, and this is part of the source of her frustration I suspect.

The biggest reason to go with this choice for me is the greater potential for bonding with XL. Both because she seems like a surprisingly interesting character, and because strengthening bonds with team members is such an important thing to do for LQ's domain.

I'm having difficulty imagining that we are not a match for Lord Scribbler if we have some sufficient prep time to set up a PLR boosted HR with Xia Lin having the time to spool up her buffs as well. A devastating alpha strike against something obsessed with drawing and writing should be devastating enough to level the playing field.

Also, loot from someone at least Cyan level of an old Duchy-level clan is nothing to scoff at. Especially only divided between two people.

Loot and killing imperial traitors. This has been a great bonding experience for Ling Qi and Xia Lin.
