Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
[X] Refuse to enter, demand that they speak with you out here. You will not be trapped. If they refuse, have Zhengui seal the tunnel before you leave.

It said that most of the spiders were at least as powerful as us and that there were at least one or two higher. I don't know if we could actually intimidate them into doing whatever we want. We've also heard from this update that Hui practiced arts to defend, ward and fight against each other even more so than outsiders. When this was said, it was indicated that it would be similar to our arts. I don't think we should be confident that we can take em so easily.
As for the other option, I don't see the point in playing along diplomatically when they clearly aren't interested--I doubt they have that useful information for us to retrieve either. Its not like this is one of our Cloud Tribe enemies, its an isolated bunch of Hui spirits that have been out of touch for a long long time.
'2 other greater spiders' could just mean greater than the riff raff in the same way the other six are, not necessarily greater than the 6. Between Xia's sword and our own escape and defense options I have a hard time believing they could prevent us from escaping even if they prove too much to overcome. And that assumes we can't take them. Among other things, after seeing we're ice/dark aligned dropping a fire/earth Xuan Wu right in the middle of them is probably the last thing they expect.

[X] Enter and engage, but be prepared. Use the trappings of Cai authority and your own power to intimidate them into backing down. If they attack anyway, this is a grouping you can handle.

I'm not sure where some of the 'shock and awe isn't our preferred diplomacy style' posts are coming from. That's basically what we did with the river eel and we were happy to put the fear of cold death into a bunch of minor spirits to make sure they wouldn't trouble Biyu. We prefer to be respectful to spirits, but if it's the better option we've pretty much always been happy to take a leaf out of the Bai/Cai/Zequing playbook and roll to intimidate/terrify.

[X] Pretend that you have not noticed their duplicity and play polite for as long as possible to draw out information. Subtly set yourself up to counterattack their ambush

I can't resist a 'Reverse Trap' play by Ling Qi

Negotiating with sincerity does not mean politely or kindly.

You guys sure you want to go in and challenge enemies matching our cultivation level but with 4x our numbers plus who-knows-what surprises?

That seems... not entirely wise.

Ling Qi is built for mass combat, plus you are forgetting Zhengui, Sixiang, and Hanyi in your calculation and that we are beneath a literal forest that has already broken into this bunker filled with dirt and cobwebs.

Combined with Ling Qi's bonuses for being in shadow and the support bonuses we provide to Xia Lin, and we know she is intended as a frontliner as part of a complicated negotiation, Ling Qi stand a decent chance due to their mooks primarily serving as Qi batteries for her.

Going in when the enemies out number her is old hat for Ling Qi at this point. The caldera was a much worse situation than this looks to be.

Going in hard may get the spiders to fold. That would be ideal and I give it better than even odds of that happening. If they do choose to attack, well, it's an enclose space and we are a field control specialist backed up by what looks like a disrupter specialist. It's not going to be a walk in the park, but I also don't think the spiders will be able to pressure us worse than the barbs did at the caldera.

No, and that's why people are voting for 2. 1 is run away and avoid any confrontation, essentially. 2 allows us to call the spiders out and potentially get them to back down. 3 is the only option that guarantees we fight, by playing into the spider's ambush.

I don't trust Ling Qi's ability to deceive in a face to face conversation.

They were frantically planning an ambush.
Is this frantically as in "fearfully" or just as in "with great haste"?

Because I'm wondering if they're planning on definitely ambushing us, as opposed to setting up a contingency.

Especially since their main source of information about us is that Red level spider that we scared the shit out of. Who we thought could only really understand basic intentions.

Ambushes don't really make sense as a contingency. They're generally offensive in nature. I think we can trust Yrsillar to have written it this way to convey what people typically think ambushes as. If Yrsillar meant to convey that they were planning an escape or a fighting retreat he would have said so.

Really need to keep the wisps or something like that in any successor art we get. They are to bloody useful to not have and LQ has been getting a lot of use out of em.
Have you heard the good word of Plan Tiny Moon Faeries? :V

But yeah, it's nice to see the wisps getting used for scouting and snooping here - especially since current plans (assuming things don't get disrupted) have us mastering RME next turn. Things like the spying here, the annoyance we had back at the village arc about not having enough scrying range to see all the different villages, and possibly conversations with Meng De could maybe provide a decent base for some kind of "knowledge is power"-based RME insight?

I'll admit I'm surprised that so many people are volunteering for a fight by voting 3. We don't NEED to fight these guys. We just need to get the maze formation outside shut down.
