Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Hmmm, I'm actually now kinda turning against the Sixiang vote.

Like, we already have an adventure coming up! Sticking in a mini-expedition before our main expedition feels like it could just come off as an awkwardly placed slightly redundant fillet arc?

We've already had multiple updates introducing the new characters. All that's really needed now is to reintroduce Gan and how he's grown since we last met. A quick military exercise feels like it would fit well into that.

I would counter this idea. Do we need to know how Gan has grown right away? Or is that something better revealed in dramatic fashion at a suitable point in the primary expedition?

We are going to be spending a great deal of time with this group, so making sure everyone feels at comfortable, or can tolerate, each other seems important.

[] Agree with Renxiang's suggestion, a military exercise, overseen by the White Plume (++combat cohesion, ???)

Ok, so it seems i am going a bit against the tide, but lets try it anyways:

What is this event supposed to do on a narrative level? I think that this is going to be Gan Guangli's reintroduction chapter to the main story after being absent for basically all of threads. It comes directly after the introduction of our other new party members and i think with this the group will be complete. In this context, what we decide on is basically the setting for Gan Guangli's return just before we start the expedition. And I think that the journey part of this expedition will be all about building up this new group.

So for one i think that the military exercise is actually a lot more in-theme for our boi Gan Flexington than the mini-expedition.
Another thing to consider is that the mini-expedition seems a little awkward since it kind of takes away narrative events/space from the actual main event (the expedition) and its purpose (building up the new group through expedition events).

So overall i think that the military exercise is actually the more fitting option here

Also, i guess it would help us to see how all 5 fight (together) at least once, since we should expect fighty events during the journey

Well, I'm also slightly sceptical of the idea that either of these are a good idea and that it might actually be better pacingwise to just move straight into the expedition? :p

But doing a mini practice expedition before the main one just feels a bit repetitive?

I'm more interested in letting the characters shine through, which seems much easier outside of a military style training session.

I think social cohesion is more important on the expedition and I am hoping for a bit of interaction with the Hidden Moon on this mini adventure.

I mean it isn't really an expedition if it only takes a day at most and is almost certainly a reasonable challenge for a single Green rather than a team of 5 specialists.

The "mini-expedition" is probably more of a relaxing hike that will let everyone interact in a neutral setting with fairly low stakes.

Best to make sure everyone knows each other well enough to know what to expect, how to read and react to more subtle signs of either elation or distress without confusing one for the other. and most importantly how to follow up and reinforce each other.

We need to present a relatively cohesive front along the way, and a journey like this into strange lands is going to be trying for everyone but the mental aspects of an enforced expedition to strange territory will be more difficult to deal with in situ whereas physical ones can at least be beaten by escaping them.

In my head, it's a staff meeting before an event, and we're voting on what the ice breaker we do. The actual activity is just which thing we want to watch everyone awkwardly participate is incidental to the purpose of everybody talking together in one room before the big dance. It would be weird for everybody to just show up and teleport to the middle of nowhere without at least meeting

Corporate ice breakers, I just threw up in my mouth a little remembering them.

It'd be easier for CRX to hug security blanket Gan Teddington in a relaxed setting than with the expectations of White Plume setting her mind more at ease, no it's not because I want to finally use the moon map :V

While I am biased for this option, but I think that seeing how each member of this group fits together during a mini-expedition during the off hours will do much more for cohesion than figuring out the best ways to combat threats together. I'm hoping we can avoid a lot of the combat with negotiation, to be honest, and I figure that having a tighter nit group being part of the negotiations at the end will be better for us.

I prefer this option, on the surface an open-ended mini-adventure is more interesting. Plus this is what LQ is all about, the power of friendship combined with deadly, otherworldly mist.

I agree with naths and Erebeal here. I think building social cohesion during the actual trip, when the stakes are meaningful, would be more narratively satisfying than trying to start doing so beforehand in a mini-expedition with no stakes.
