New Good Seed and Omake Rule Updates
Good Seed and Omake Spreadsheet Rules:

Firstly, if you have questions about Good Seeds and the like please read here. If that doesn't answer your question please ping me in thread, or on Discord.

If you write a new Good Seed, or write an omake, please update the spreadsheet if you have access.

If you do not have access, please ping a collaborator (Swordomatic, Alectai, Quest, TehChron, Insane-Not-Crazy, Humbaba, ReaderOfFate, Kaboomatic, no., BungieONI) letting them know what you want and they will update the spreadsheet here. To gain access, you will need a gmail account of some kind. Throwaway emails are fine (I'm using one for the spreadsheet), but to gain access it's as simple as sending me either your email via PM, via DM in Discord, or just in Discord's #spreadsheet-requests channel.

This is mandatory. If a Good Seed does not record their omake by pinging collabs (or just requesting access and editing things themselves - this is the preferred option), I won't give out awards. If a new Good Seed is not recorded here, they won't advance. By doing this it makes the whole thing manageable for me - it's gotten pretty unwieldy!

-----------------------

Omake Writer Instructions:

There are four fields you need to fill out.

Omake Link, which is just a link to your first omake for the turn. This makes it easier for me to read them as I do the update - without this it's tough to know off the bat which omake were written this turn, and to properly

Requested Bonus, which is your requested bonus for your omake. You can leave it up to me if you like. You can see more info in the Good Seed infopost here.

Cultivation Aims. For those following unorthodox paths - higher than 9th Heavenstage or later than 7th Dao Pillar paths. Please put in what you are aiming for before you break through. I have left it as 'default'. If you do not edit it, I'll go with that.

Turn Notes - Do you want to do something specific? Enter a Secret Realm? Help the Clan out in some way? If you have something specific you want to accomplish on this turn, put it in turn notes so I can adjust your Fate around it.

All other fields are for QM use to record character information to properly run the flow of the game.

Yes, but no. It's a known recipe, but normally Savvas wouldn't have access to such an expensive treasure - the Clan can't easily replicate his recipe.
Just to check, is this the life-saving treasure I requested (I couldn't think of any, I was thinking it might have been a reward for his endeavors), or a Fate bonus?

Yes to the life-saving treasure. I'm thinking I might need to get a spreadsheet set up of some kind to make referencing this for people (and myself!) easier. I was against it at first, but my gosh the whole thing gets very complicated.

Good Seed report updated. In keeping with Yan's luck-conserving nature I expect him to nearly die next turn after having such a good run this turn, but we'll see how sentient the dice turn out to be.

To Foundation specifically. I'm trying to show either distance to 11th+ (as 11th is an 80 year/4 turn on average trip) or Foundation depending on what your Good Seed is aiming for.
160 years to Foundation, my guy is already 90 years old, I'm going to need make some life extending pills soon. That Dao pillar had better be super sturdy with how long it takes to form

@Mochinator I want to say your latest omake is probably my favorite Xiao Yi omake of them all by a really considerable margin. Definitely glad you decided to go with a third person on that one.

@ninjastar I really enjoyed your omake as well - tournament fishing arc!

As a very broad aside, I had hoped - not expected, but hoped - to get maybe ~4,000 words of omake by the time I had written ~40,000. I thought that would be a pretty good result, and a complete validation of the Good Seed system. If you'd said I'd have an equal number of words from omake writers to what I'd written, I'd have found that very surprising and unlikely.

If you'd told me that all the cool people writing Good Seeds had written 180,000 words before I cracked forty, I'd have slapped you in the face for being a liar and a cad.

To everyone reading the quest, if you catch up and think 'man, I wish there was more to this quest', go down a rabbit hole - pick a character and read through their life to date!. There's an absolutely astounding amount of great stuff from so many writers!

@occipitallobe Another brief question! Regarding the Formation my Good Seed submitted this turn, do i need to devote more Fate rolls to it for it to be taught Clanwide and added to the Clan Techs ? Won't mind making sure it's fully IN

Also, regarding the formation itself, would it be one that i mentioned in my Omakes or would it be something new you'll make and add when it's fully done ? I like to know on this for maybe writing an omake about it.

Yes, but you need to buy one per level of Qi Condensation above the 9th to guarantee a breakthrough. Along with the age requirements meaning you need Lifespan Treasures, getting to 13th and breaking through is an expensive, lengthy prospect.
Lastly, would 2 Tribulation boosts allow a Cultivator who is forcing the tribulation to make it without injury ? Something like 1 to pass and 1 to negate the additional risks ? For curiousity's sake, i'm going to vanilla route for Xiao Yi myself.

@Mochinator I want to say your latest omake is probably my favorite Xiao Yi omake of them all by a really considerable margin. Definitely glad you decided to go with a third person on that one
🙇‍♀️ 🙇‍♀️ 🙇‍♀️

Thanks, i really appreciate it. It makes the time spent brainstorming and coming up with words to fit the scenes in my head worth it. As can probably been seen in my writing so far, i've been trying to find a style that allows me to put down what i thought up and i'm glad that i seemed to have hit upon it.

Like i said, this non-focused POV was definitely the easiest for me so far in allowing me to write the events. I was worried that it came across as very disjointed and rambling since i wasn't sure if i could convey what was in my head with my words.

Really thank you. For the Quest and for making me start writing again. Knowing that someone liked what i write is a awesome confidence booster.

Hektor Sarantapechos 4 - Celebrations and contemplation's
Hektor Sarantapechos
Celebrations and contemplation's
"You are now ninety, Hektor. Were you a mortal you would already be a wise old man well past his prime but look at you! Already in the Foundation Building stage and having formed your second pillar, ready for your first command." Kleisthenes was visibly proud of her son, masculine features bearing a proud demeanour that she did not often allow to be seen. She schooled her face into the neutral mask of a diplomat as she prepared to greet their guests.

"Ah, the woes of being the son of one elder and the nephew of another are truly awful. Large parties full of food, drink, friends, and family shall truly be the end of me." Hektor said as he gave a short laugh before heading out. What was occupying his mind in the short few moments before having to greet his many guests though, was Kleisthenes comment on his age.

Hektor was now ninety, truly ancient from a mortal's frame of reference, but to him it felt like he had barely begun life. He still felt like a small child at times, especially now when his mother fussed over his ceremonial robe. Yes, mortal and immortal maturity developed very differently. It also might explain why some of the people he had met outside the clan acted so petty and childlike despite being centuries old. That, or it was just the culture to be spoiled brats in this Heaven forsaken third sea.

Stepping out into the hall set up for the party, Hektor was greeted with the sight of many bronze skinned men and women wearing various traditional robes of the Clan, called Himation's and Chitons. These gathered elites of the clan included other elders such as Euphrosyne, Hektor's aunt, as well as other young talents such as the Myia girl or the one called "The Ninth Prince". Hektor wasn't quite sure what was going on with that man, but despite his unnerving appearance and attitude he was a benefit to the clan, so he welcomed his presence.

To Hektor, gatherings such as these were old hat by now and he could perform the necessary responses automatically without conscious thought. He spent much of the party like this until his mother pulled him aside saying "We have a rather special visitor Hektor" while apologising to the hundred and somethingth cousin that Hektor had spoken to that night.

Kleisthenes opened the doors to the hall and Hektor's eyebrows rose in surprise alongside his mothers. Especially when the visitor drew out a severed leg from somewhere after making quite a dreadful pun. Hektor's eyebrows rose further when the Grand Elder, no, Archgetes made yet another body related pun and withdrew a severed head. Still, Hektor had seen far gorier sights in battle, so despite the shock he was over it quickly and able to school his features when the Archgetes turned his attention to him.

"Here you are, young Hektor. Simply wave this, and you will find yourself one hundred li closer to the Spirit Palm in the centre of the clan that gave the leaf - or under its boughs, if you should be less than one hundred li away. A useful treasure for one of the Clan's great talents, we would hate to see you fall."

"Many thanks Grand Elder, I too would-" Hektor's reply was cut off by both his mother and the Grand Elder disappearing to presumably do Elder things. Hektor simply shrugged his shoulders, well used to disappearing acts such as these, and returned to the celebrations in the hall.

@occipitallobe another Omake for you to peruse! I also have another one in the works that I should get done in a day or two. Reward for this is another lifesaving treasure please.

Damn, the Rise of Yan Steelfist. Dat Loot is making Secret Realms tempting, but i shall resist! My mind keeps telling me that i'll get 3 low rolls instead, so that be DEATH for mine 😅
There's a reason I'm trying to get as many LS treasures as possible for Hektor. Incidentally, is there a list of when all the various realms are open?

but i shall resist! My mind keeps telling me that i'll get 3 low rolls instead, so that be DEATH for mine 😅

this isn't how going to a secret realm works.
So basically you stop the first time you're about to die. Entering a Secret Realm is basically getting a few turns of souped-up Fate in one go, but your chances of being badly hurt/crippled/dying/etc are increased drastically as well.

this isn't how going to a secret realm works.
Oof. Making it tempting for me... I think my Good Seed should be pretty Ok among Qi Condensations considering he should have a Life Saving, Realm Surpassing + Attk bonus with Qing Yun.

Hmm, maybe i'll give it a shot as well. Him intentionally seeking out danger to better protect the clan during the upcoming trials would give me something to write about....
There's a reason I'm trying to get as many LS treasures as possible for Hektor. Incidentally, is there a list of when all the various realms are open?
I only remembered that for the one Yan went, it's open every turn for Qi Condensation. Which is also the one i'm considering since he would only be facing Qi Condensation cultivators... And when he screws up, i still got Turn 5 itself to get another life saving treasure for the Trials.. Hmmmm...

I guess i will think about it + see if i can squeeze out more omakes to increase the chances

Demeterius Ceres 3 - Why hunting bandits are nothing worth bragging about.
Demeterius Ceres:
Why hunting bandits are nothing worth bragging about

So, I was walking on a road minding my own business. I was returning from a minor clan holding on the border. The occupants had been suffering from depression after all their elders had been eaten by cannibals. My black-market contacts had just given me a book on arrays used by a demonic cult somewhere in the north. It had some interesting ideas in it but was relatively useless. The value of using mortals as an energy source goes against what I hope to create. I need to figure out how to change the power source of the arrays, or better yet, find someone who can do it for me. I dabble in it, but my skill is far below those who specialize.

So, I was minding my own business when a bird crashed into me and sent me flying. It was a fat red one with a big beak. I recognized this one. It belonged to one of the grannies down the street. I wanted to push it off, but due to the sheer amount of fat on this bird, I was unable to move it. I resigned myself to my fate and retrieved the small scroll hanging around its neck.

Listen here, you little shit. There is a bandit camp near you. Track them down and destroy it. My bird will not move before you agree to this request, you lazy bum.

Why is she like this? For everyone else, she is a polite old lady who shows everyone respect. Even that other hag who stole her husband is treated with more esteem from her. Where is my appreciation? My respect?

This is going to be my whole day, is it not?
I asked the bird. The bird had the nerve to laugh at me.

Bandit

I was a proud member of the Blood Hunting Bandits, a talented beast tamer, and I should have known something was wrong when the wolves I had yet to tame started howling. They howled with hate, except it was not aimed at us. We were the ones that had captured them, and we were the ones that had put them in cages. Yet, they had sensed something else. Something they hated far more than us.

It was not long before the screaming started. One of the guards came running into the courtyard and screamed: «to arms
His voice was cut off by a strange gurgle sound as his helmeted head fell on the ground with a clang. As his headless body fell, we could see a man behind him. The thirty-something-year-old man stood in front of us. He had brown hair and a trimmed beard. He was wearing black leather armor, and he was covered in blood. Not his own. No. Ours. He was wielding an ax. I could feel there was something special about it. One of ours charged him with a spear, while the rest encircled him. He sidestepped the spear and swung his ax, and at that moment, 11 people were split in half. An 8th stage cultivator had arrived, and I pray that our boss would hurry up, or we would all be dead.

The man who was killing us, he looked annoyed. Like a child told to do something he did not want to do but was forced to do so anyway. I could not stop shaking. What is this thing that chops down men like others would chop down weeds? Our group had met cultivators before. Men and women that was filled with their righteous fury. We had laughed at those when they ended up making a run for it, or when we somehow managed to kill one, and the boss absorbed their blood. This was something else. This chilled me to the bone.

I released the feral beasts stuck in the cages. Giant wolves that we would usually use as mounts after we had tamed them. They ignored me and charged directly towards the cultivator. He looked at them and picked up a head from his belt, and he released fire from it, creating a big circle of a burning wall around him, paying no attention to those he had just set on fire. The wolves avoided it and sprinted towards the opening behind him. Had he forgotten it? No, he left them open space so that he could fight them one on one. Where we so weak that he had the time to calculate his every move. He slaughtered the wolves one by one.

It was then the boss showed up. An 8th stage blood cultivator with red hair and a dirty beard. The monsters equal. I hoped he was his equal. The boss screamed and charged. The cultivator yanked the ax out of one of our fatalities rib-cage and used the handle to block the incoming sword slash. The boss was wielding a well-made sword. It was something he had stolen from the last cultivator he had fought. Yet, compared to that ax, his sword looked like a toy.

They fought for minutes at a pace quicker than I could follow, with the strength that I only could dream of, and the boss, our only hope, was forced back.

«Is that it?» The cultivator asked. «Where is your technique? Why are you holding your sword like a ten-year-old would hold a stick?»

«You are strong. Your blood will give me the strength needed to ascend to the next stage. Soon this region will belong to me, and everyone will heed my will.»

«Blood cultivators. This is why I do not like your kind. You are all so disappointing. You obtain all this power, and you do not have the faintest idea of how to use it. You are nothing more than a beast, a pest on the same level of the nature that surrounds our civilization. You crave power and nothing else. You have given up on your potential, and now I have to clean up this mess. I knew I was right. This has been a waste of my time. »

The fight was over. When the boss charged, the other man was ready. He whirled his ax, and the boss lost his sword arm. What followed was a game of cat and mouse as the boss tried to flee. He failed miserably, and his corpse soon joined the others. It was only me left now. The cultivator walked towards me, and the tamed wolf that had followed me for five years and had wisely chosen to not attack stood between me and the monster. «You are a beast tamer?» He asked. I nodded quickly. I could not stop shaking. I had never felt such fear. «Interesting, I can work with that. My name is Demetrius Ceres. Consider yourself recruited. Find your belonging and your beasts. We are leaving in 15 minutes.»
______________________________________________________________

Welcome to Demetrius's way of recruitment. The recruited cannot say No if saying no is not an option. Tried writing a power fantasy thing. It was fun. I do like my new Ax.

I was wrecked today (endless house renovations during covid-enforced unemployment). Missed half your questions, sorry! In regards to the formation I left it open to you - if you'd prefer me to think of something I can, but 'treasure you found' is easy for me to think up, 'formation your character invented' I'd prefer to leave to you as it seems more appropriate. Once you decide what you want, let me know and I'll add it as a general technique in the Clan info post.

In terms of upgrading your formation, make a note in your Good Seed page about it - once you decide what it is

In terms of tribulation boosts, one will get you a relatively smooth ride with the worst outcome being wounding. Two (from 9th Heavenstage) will get you a completely zero-risk ride in every way.

this was worth my life saving treasure.

so when dos the egg hatch?

Yan will have his beast from the next turn onwards. You can write it hatching and tamed, or just assume it'll be good to go in future omake, whatever suits.

  • [X] Negotiate
-[X] You are not materially opposed to this arrangement, none wish to see the Demonic Altar Sect move unopposed after all, but you must also see to the well being of your people, and the last thing any of us want would be spies from the Demonic Altar Sect slipping through and setting up camp here, or bolstering the weakened Blood Cannibals, no? The Golden Devil Clan is willing to charge reduced tariffs on those who seek the springs for healing--but the Jingshen Clan will be responsible for paying the difference--such resources will be committed to the establishment of a secure road and other methods of heightened security for the duration of this agreement.
[X] Disagree. Moderate Income boost from Cultivators traveling to the Spirit-Refreshing Oasis. More likely to cause trouble in your lands due to tariffs charged. Fall in Jingshen relations.
    [X] Negotiate
-[X]remove the investment of fortification clause but the Jingshen will give us a onetime sum equal to twenty years of our income and they will pay the difference in the tolls, add a clause that says that this deal will be renegotiate in sixty years.
--[X] Manuel will deliberately allow himself to be bargained down for removing the entirety of the onetime payment in a way that will imply that he is affected by her Dao
---[X] meanwhile over sixty years gather poisons and ways to blocke teleportation discreetly and when the Jingshen send her to renegotiate the deal (if we aren't in a war) kill her, proclaim that she tried to mind control us and demand heavy reciprocations from the Jingshen on the pain of war.
    [X] Disagree.

Time for the final update for the turn!

edit: In terms of modifiers, that roll really favoured Manuel. You'd expect him to at least win it 9 times out of 10.

Wow. They really hate him. I find it hilarious that the hate is so ingrained that even being captured and used to as a mount is nothing compared to Damien's sheer existence.
Can you guys give me Idea's for Lin Fans Dao, Because i have no idea.
Erm well, skimming through Lin Fan and his omakes, i get the impression that he's pretty bloodthirsty but you have him regretting his actions in the latest one. My suggestion will be something along the lines of the Dao Of Regret if you're committed to the the change to him.

If not, something like the Dao of Sound is enough. You can gradually fluff it into perhaps him using sound to cause people to kill themselves or to explode their brains etc. Something general that you can work on in future omakes.
Since your a demonic tunes user, you can pick things sound, music, or soul. If you pick music as your main Dao, you can use the different types like rock, classical, etc
Good point. The Dao of Death Metal !

No worries, thanks for the reply it'll help me plan. For the others questers, i have 2 Formation ideas, but considering it'll be something our weaker clansmen can use, i would like some feedback on which would be better

Lamellar Formation = A derivative of the Kataphraktoi Formation for Qi Condensation Cultivators. It forms a Bronze suit of Lamellar armor around all members of the Formation that acts as a Defensive Enhancement. Upon being attacked, the Armor spreads out the Qi cost of defending against the strike by using a small portion of the Qi of all cultivators in the Formation instead of using the Cultivator being attacked. Cultivators of the formation cannot go further then 1 mile of each other for the formation's effects to work.

A Variant way it can be used for a more supportive role

Lamellar Formation: Hetaroi = A derivative of the Lamellar Formation. Instead of forming Lamellar armor around the Qi Condensation Cultivators in the Formation, a suit of armor is formed around a designated cultivator outside the formation. All the Qi Costs of defending against attacks that land on the armor will be taken from the Qi of the Cultivators in the Formation instead of the designated cultivator. This Formation will allow the designated cultivator to use more Qi for offense, however as the cultivators in the formation are of the QI Condensation stage, thousands are needed to defend against Foundation Establishment cultivators.
Formation Of Philoctetes . A derivative of the Kataphraktoi Formation that focuses entirely on the part of the Formation that deals with shooting arrows after the charge. Qi is gathered and used to power and launch arrows filled with Poison Qi that has the same effect as poison from White-backed Scorpions. It should allow Qi Condensation cultivators some flexibility in attacking their peers or even take out their killers. All they need to do is ensure that the arrows launched from the formation hit so that the poison can begin it's work

Usually he'll be much stronger within his small realm, sometimes able to fight across realms effectively.
Thanks for the info, that's good to know.

(TBH, the only reason I asked was because in the prior Good Seed report it seemed like everyone who chose a combat-enhancer as their Cool-Thing could fight across a single stage, but this makes sense since the gap between Heavenstages widens as the stages rise. It makes perfect sense that reliably striking above the Ninth Stage into the Tenth is difficult stuff. Well, good thing that I planned on fleshing it out into a style over the course of several Turns.)

Year 60 End - Council Meeting
Manuel gnashed his teeth in frustration.

The problem with carefully preplanned notions and ideas when suffusing oneself with the pure essence of contempt was that once you left the script, even partially, the whole thing fell down, and one reverted to more crude refusals. He'd ended up simply refusing several times in a humiliatingly obvious way. He personally wasn't obsessed with the notion of face, but it impacted how people saw you. How they treated you. Lady Jiao had evidently felt she had gotten the better end of the exchange, even if he had been forced to disagree with her offer entirely. He'd ended up making a small concession as well, allowing Jiao doctors to move along the Scorpion road for ten years tariff-free.

Not the most costly of mistakes, but it made him look weak in front of an Early Nascent Soul, and that would embolden Jingshen Clan to take liberties. Contempt would work for combat, he thought. For diplomacy, it was probably unworkable.

-----------

There are basically four Mechanics in this quest.

(1) Choices. Your Clan Council will ask you to make a call on something. Mostly they won't do this - they're competent enough to handle things on their own, but sometimes they will. You'll see 0-2 of these per turn, on average. They're usually pretty straight-up binary choices.

(2) Focuses. You choose in general what the Clan should focus on for the next 20 years. Building up for war? Training new disciples? Carving more arrays? More trade? Focuses don't prevent you from doing everything else, it's more 'here's the one thing we should really get done'. Focuses are mainly mediated by your personal skill levels and specialities.

(3) Actions. What you, personally, do. Usually mediated by skills, but often by Cultivation level - especially when it comes to combat. You can always Write In Actions. In fact, writing in more complex and well-thought out Actions will positively increase your chances of success.

(4) Purchases. What wealth the Clan has, and what your Council want you to spend it on. They'll usually come to you with the thing they want most. No micromanagement, just 'here is the big-ticket item I want'. These will often (but not always) persist between turns. Wealth is expressed in terms of Years of Income Saved. You can take as many of these as you can pay for! Keep in mind, though, if you spend all your money, you won't have it in future for dire situations.

All voting is Plan Voting. Make a Plan if you want, or just vote on someone else's! You can vote on as many Plans as you like! Approval Voting, baby!

--------------------------------

There is a Voting Moratorium for TWELVE HOURS after this post. Feel free to create plans, but votes for plans will not be counted until that time has passed.

---------------------------------

Manuel walked into the now-messy clan headquarters. The new table that had been procured had apparently been cast from good Spirit Bronze. A second round of disagreements over Spirit Herb allocations between various new families in the new lands had broken out, and Euphrosyne had smacked the table too hard. It had left a massive crack down it, which they left in place. A reminder to choose better craftsmen, even for ornamental things.

Around stood his Councillors, each a skilled and valuable piece on the gameboard, as well as one dying elder watching over his successor - the former Elder of War, Ioannes Vatatzes. They worked as a well-oiled machine, but had sputtered lately. The new Elder of War was competent, but not experienced - managing a military needed to safeguard tens of millions of people was no easy task. They were mostly used to Manuel's light hand, though Kleisthenes had been bothering him more lately.

The chairs were back. His chair, however, was notably missing a leg, and had the remaining three reorganised into a tripod. He almost laughed, but decided it would be a poor way to start the meeting. An excellent retort from Kleisthenes. He mentally allocated three hours when he had some spare time... he thought for a moment, and found a spot unspoken for in about five years. She would regret starting this prank war.

"Report."

Manuel's voice chimed like a small brass bell, and clanged at the end of his word, the bell growing deep and loud. These Elders knew the process now, and were quick to report.

First was Euphrosyne Sarantapechos, a Great Circle Core Formation Elder. She had broken through over twenty years ago, and was a valuable combat resource as well as the Clan's best hope at a new Nascent Soul. She was Stratopedarches, or in more common terms, the Elder of Administration. To her fell the duties of managing mines, herbs, cities, camps - all manner of resources flowed through her hands. In the last twenty years she had spent much time developing her personal Dao, and had grown ever-closer to preparing to shatter her Core and reach the Nascent Soul. To Manuel's mind, she was the first Core Formation Elder he had seen in two centuries who had even a slight chance of breaking through to Nascent Soul. A tremendous talent.

"Archegetes. Obviously in terms of wealth things have gone reasonably well. We have twenty-five full years of income saved. We have enough saved that I feel comfortable in our ability to face any one trial, but we must begin to face the Trials that are coming in forty years."

Second was Kleisthenes Sarantapechos, a Mid Core Formation Elder. Euphrosyne's twin sister, though less talented in cultivation. She cultivated a rare Yang attribute technique, and went by a male name, and wore a male body to aid in her cultivation. For her, if she had not cultivated her Yang technique - she never would have risen into Core Formation. Such a thing was uncommon among your Clan, but not unknown. She is the Hetaireiarches, or in common terms, the Elder of Diplomacy. To her fell the duties of managing external powers and other Nascent Souls. She often complained about her lack of talent, and she and Manuel were reasonable friends. Of late she had begun to recover their old friendship, one before he had become Archegetes. After Alexios she was his closest friend, and they were exploring the difficulties of absolute authority and friendship, and where the new limits lay.

"Archegetes, I have reviewed the new deal you have rejected. A pity we were not able to get more out of it, but Jingshen Clan seem intent on cultivating goodwill with the other Righteous Powers. I imagine some scheme of theirs. A demand from tribute came from the Devil Bees. It was absurd, and I rejected it out of hand. However, with the war in the Great Battlefield starting in full earnest, the Devil Bees are facing very little repression. If there was ever a time for them to invade, it would be now, while we are absorbing new lands."

"Strength Purity Sect has won the first series of battles against the Demonic Altar. However, this is usually the case in these wars - we expect Strength Purity Sect to win the vast majority of the battles to simply break even. Noble Knowledge Sect tried to break the Poison-Crushing Siege, but apparently lost several Core Formation Elders doing so. A poor showing for the Demonic Path this early in the war."

Third was Nikephoros Theophylaktos, a Great Circle Core Formation Elder. He is a simple man to all appearances, speaking little. He is the Parakoimomenos, or in common terms, the Elder of Intrigue. You had trained him personally, and found his skills acceptable. Previously you held his position, so he is admittedly new to the task, though he had been your assistant for almost a century. To him falls the duties of espionage, sabotage, and assassination. While he was your apprentice, you are currently somewhat estranged. Warmth has slowly been returning to his voice, though, but you find it difficult to reconnect - seeing the removed head of Child Corpse Gulper had not rebuilt your friendship in a way you had hoped.

"Archegetes. Little enough to know, though apparently one of the Early Nascent Souls in the Devil Bee Sect was secretly killed in a revenge mission by the Seven Divine Saber Palace. They will be looking to recoup their strength - I and Kleisthenes are in disagreement on this matter. I believe a strike against us would merely cost them a great deal, and would yield them little. The construction of our new defenses has seen more raids stymied, and there is no rational reason for them to devote resources to chew on a hard piece of bone such as us."

Fourth came Staurakios Palaiologos, a Late Core Formation Elder. He is Chartoularios Tou Kanikleiou, or in simpler terms, the Master of Disciples. He picks out good seeds, gives training and assistance, and manages the core of the Clan Contribution Board for Qi Condensation and Foundation Building disciples in times of peace. Lately, he has been complaining about the foolishness of all the new disciples, though you can tell he is happier than he has been in decades.

"Archegetes. Numbers are doing well. We should be back to 90% of our former cultivator population by the time the next Trials roll around. I'd prefer it to be 100%, if I'm speaking honestly. Some more expenditure on disciples wouldn't go amiss."

Lastly was Aikaterine Callista, a Mid Core Formation Elder. She is Protostrator, leader of your armies. She is an ageless looking woman, well over six feet tall with hair cut into a Legionnaire's trim, garbed in a simple tunic, fastened at the shoulder. She had taken to the role well, though to be expected to properly manage the defense of tens of millions in a mere twenty years was a tall order, especially when there was such diversity among cultivators - in both talents and proclivities. When the time comes to gather up into formations and strike at enemies, or defend your cities, it is she who organises them, leads them, and manages the Clan Contribution Board to ensure the correct tasks get done.

Behind her sits Ioannes Vatatzes, a dying man and former Protostrator. He does not speak, and merely serves as an advisor for Aikaterine when needed. He is completely bald, and his former glorious beard has fallen out, first in patches, then completely. He was very vain about his beard, though, and seems perhaps more despondent about its loss than his imminent death. His skin is rotted, his teeth have fallen out, and his eyes are sunken into his skull. Perhaps he has five more years.

Aikaterine speaks, her voice loud and clear.

"Archegetes. I am coming to terms with military command of the Clan. While the forces exist to prosecute a war, I see no obvious or soft target, and my taking command means it will be some time before our forces are at full readiness. I would prefer to limit ourselves to defensive operations at this time."

You run your tongue over your teeth and think.

What should the Clan focus on?

[ ] Building Bridges (Write-in target) - You should make more allies. Choose a target on the map and aim to have their relations with you increased. Give gifts, exchange assistance, aim for strategic marriages.

[ ] Intrigue (Write-in target) - You should learn about another clan entirely. Spend Spirit Stones like water in the plains and find out everything you can. Strengths. Weaknesses, places to strike, rebels, and so on and so forth.

[ ] Raiding (Write-in target) - Better to weaken an enemy. Send teams of cultivators to go raid an enemy for resources and to kill them where possible. Minor conflicts, with minor rewards. At best, you can seize minor territorial gains. This will worsen your relations, of course. Gains widely variable Wealth (0-10, excluding crits). May seize territory and gain Income in extreme cases. Loses Cultivators - around 5,000 Qi Condensation cultivators, 50 Foundation Establishment cultivators, and potentially 1 Core Formation Elder.

[ ] War (Write-in target) - Simply invade. Strike with all your might and seize territory. Kill cultivators. Requires your personal attention to prevent Nascent Souls simply obliterating your forces. Uses your personal Action for the turn. War will open a set of new sub-turns.

[ ] Increasing Wealth - More trade, more mines, more growth. Aim to find more Spirit Stones, tax more from traders, whatever works to increase your Clan Wealth. Increases Wealth by an average of 5.

[ ] Training Soldiers - Raising Disciples to higher Realms is all well and good, but training them to be perfect members of Formations is better. Ensure your Clan is trained and ready for war. Your readiness to go to war will increase significantly, though this fades over time.

[ ] Fortifying (Write-in territory, ally or vassal) - Spend Clan manpower and soldiers to build new fortifications against outside enemies. New Arrays, help train new cultivators in lesser Formations to defend their lands, and so on. Will also strengthen a vassal or ally if chosen, and increase relations with them. Increases defenses in the chosen territory, ally, or vassal.

What will you do?

[ ] Hunt An Enemy (Write-In) - Why not? Hunt down enemies, see if you can kill someone. Usually used against an opposing Nascent Soul. Potentially very dangerous.

[ ] Weaken An Enemy (Write-In Faction) - Choose a faction, and use your Nascent Soul strength to simply sneak in and do damage. A little underhanded and shameful, but what do you care for the views of the Righteous Path? Potentially dangerous.

[ ] Assist A Faction (Write-in Faction) - Use your personal strength to assist an ally of some kind. Potentially dangerous.

[ ] Economic Activity - Carve arrays, scribe useful cultivation techniques onto scrolls, hunt down useful opportunities that might be dangerous to a Core Formation Elder. Make some money for the Clan.

[ ] Lecturing - You can simply lecture your many juniors on cultivation. Spend your time helping them grow, using less resources and ensuring better growth for the Clan.

[ ] Invest in Colonisation (10 Wealth)

"
Archegetes, our new lands hold great potential, yet we must realise it. Let us colonise en masse, and spend lavishly to raise new cultivators and to encourage mortals to have more children. If we can populate them sufficiently, they can be well-fortified and we will be difficult to dislodge in a hundred years."'

Kleisthenes Sarantapechos wants to...

[ ] Build up the Scorpion Road (5 Wealth)

"Archegetes, with another Demon-Annihilating War beginning, we are well off to make friends with the Righteous powers who do not overmuch hate us. Making the Scorpion Road more accessible will increase our income in future, but will also allow us to facilitate trade with a grateful Strength Purity Sect. Given they are the ones who must approve any Righteous expedition through the mountains against us, their goodwill is most valuable.'

Nikephoros Theophylaktos wants to...

[ ] Rebuild the Golden Eye Array (7 Wealth)

"Seven is the number of this formation, and if the seven circles of the Clan's great Eye can be rebuilt from when it last fell a few thousand years ago, we will be able to see what happens from afar with ease. Scrying on lesser realms will be far easier, and I will be able to bring you more precise information on further powers. It will also permit us to more easily watch rebels and enemies within our own territory, as well."

Staurakios Palaiologos wants to...

[ ] Regain Full Strength (6 Wealth)

"Archegetes, regaining our full strength before the Hundred-Year Trials is paramount to avoiding decline. For a modest investment, I can ensure we reach that goal over the next 40 years, rather than a mere 90% of it."

Aikaterine Callista wants to...

[ ] Build Engines of War (5 Wealth)

"Archegetes, I believe we are approaching a time of greater conflict. This will surely spill over into the lands of the Optimatoi. My command of the Legions is still developing, but I believe the addition of new engines of war - arrays, runic artifacts, and the like, could offer greater power in a tactical sense, even if it might cost some parts of the Legions some strategic mobility. Gaining the capability to enter enemy lands and demolish their strongholds more readily will serve as a deterrent to serious attacks as well."

What currencies are there below low-grade spirit stones?

Gold for richer mortals, then silver, then copper. Merchant firms might deal in banknotes they personally guarantee can be drawn on for Spirit Stones, but for mortals even a single low-grade stone is ridiculously expensive.

No worries, thanks for the reply it'll help me plan. For the others questers, i have 2 Formation ideas, but considering it'll be something our weaker clansmen can use, i would like some feedback on which would be better

Philoctetes makes more sense to me. Giving weak Clan cultivators the ability to use Poison Qi en masse seems like the sort of thing the Clan might see as useful to teach.
