Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Excuse me, hang on a second, now far be it from me to interrupt this lovely bit of community questing (especially since I still owe Yrs two seals), but have we gotten to the point where we saltily religitate the previous turns vote?

Because I think that everyone that voted for [choice I disagreed with] literally steal candy from children, and they should make an accounting for themselves, and justify their candy-stealing-esque choices!

You have all shown your colours and I want to hear what you have to say for yourselves.

Edit: Serous business done, I'd like to add that I am personally more interested having a better Art to use than I am in starting our "Dress Arc" at this time, regardless of the multipliers.
You've convinced me that stealing candy from children is unacceptable.

Leaning towards this, yes- the Dress is greedy- but it's going to grow with us and it's in neither ours or the dresses' nature to let go of each other.

But most importantly- we know you can integrate spirits into Arts/vice versa- given that's what Beizhen did with the Terror spirit, and I'm really curious about that. Feeding part of the Wind Thief Art to the Dress is a bit of a gamble, but I'd much rather experiment with the relationship between Arts and Spirits with it than Precious, Hanyi, or Sixiang. Especially because the Dress almost certainly *wants* this. Let's give it a boon before we start establishing limits, and in doing so figure out a seemingly big facet of spirits and arts we haven't explored.

: I find it more likely we are going to carry the dress as far as fucking possible so might as well focus on it
2: if its possibly going to be a problem might as well make it a problem somewhere safe
3: The sooner the dress gets to be a being the sooner we can get drama related to it

Finally, progress! I'm glad to have done my part to help make the world a better place. Tomorrow I'm going to connive some dogs to not commit arson. I... don't expect much of a challenge.

Also, I don't agree with your assessment; regardless of who made the dress, if we get a permanent upgrade to an Art (and that upgrade is carried forward in some way to successor arts), then we should be missing out on something with the dress, in a permanent manner. Maybe it would have gotten an extra half rank to a thing that it boosts, or an extra DT/Durability, otherwise the (mechanical) choice becomes, like you said "Get dress to be better now (temp boost) and miss out on our Art being better (perm loss), or wait for dress to get better more slowly (temp loss) but get a better Art (perm boost).

And that feels like an odd choice to present to the player, so I'm going with "it's not that".

I hope my reasoning makes sense, sometimes I have difficulty explaining why I hold the positions I do.

Since the other options winning anyways, guess I'll just go along with my sense of curiosity for now. I wanna know how it's gonna react

People have expressed a preference for training without the dress because they don't want to miss out on making the most out of Lark. That is a reasonable concern, but I want to present an alternate perspective.

By practicing without the dress, we can make the most out of the art as a standalone thing, yes. However, by practicing with the dress, we don't merely improve the dress - rather, we improve how well the dress works with the Art. Basically, it is a choice between raw power and increased synergy. Given that we are going to have both the Art and the Dress for a looong time, I'd rather work towards a state where the two fit together, rather than each doing its own thing with no interaction.

When we fight, we aren't going to be using Lark without our dress; so why would we train without it?

But that comes back to that all being meta-reasoning, while there's no particular reason to believe that in character. The principles of establishing a good foundation though are well known.

The idea about trying to integrate our art with our dress following Meizhen is interesting, but a) if we were to do that we'd really need to go and talk to people about how that works first, and b) again there's no reason to think we'd need to do that now. Meizhen afterall integrated her spirit with an art she'd already trained heavily.

Ling Qi sat at one one end of the long couch which filled the far side of the room, and at her feet on the carpeted floor where Zhengui and Biyu were. Part way through the day, her little sister had plead with him to let her ride on his shell, and Zhengui had eventually allowed it. Ling Qi had made sure it would be safe, and so throughout the day the little girl would happily hop on and let Zhengui carry her through the halls.

She was just leaning against his shell now, blinking drowsily while their mother played.
How long before Biyu and Hanyi are squabbling over whose turn it is to ride?
Ling Qi couldn't help a small smile as she leaned against the arm of the couch. Her mother really was good. Ling Qi had surpassed her through cultivation, but her mother was genuinely talented, and now with the rust of disuse gone from her skill, that was showing again.

The gentle sound of her mothers flute drifted through the warm room, it was a song of comfort and warm summer days, and a faint hope that was slowly growing, but growing all the same.
Thats rather impressive for Red tier music.
"It was a nice song," Gui said quietly. He had not been at the most talkative today, but she thought that he had still enjoyed himself.

"See, even Zhengui agrees that it does deserve praise," Ling Qi said.

"Precious is a good turtle," Biyu agreed, patting his shell.

Zhen looked conflicted at the praise.
Zhen: Being nice gets dumb Gui pats. I want some.
The dress should adapt to the fact of our use of the art regardless.
The issue is Ling Qi adapting to relying on the dress rather than her own ability with the art, not the other way round. That and a 0.4 modifier is pretty big when we're this high on drugs.

Way I see it:
-Art Bonus - If Ling Qi has the Dress shut down somehow she's likely to be able to still glide with the Art.
-Dress Reaction - The dress adapts to her learning a flight art and develops ways to enhance it.

If Ling Qi doesn't know about how to go about synergy training with the dress I'd like to hold off and ask CRX more details before we commit to anything and harm dress-Chan

well i mean, personally i think this whole vote is weird. Ling qi always trains with the dress on from what i understand, because thats what she wears to battle. So its kind of weird imo for her to take the dress that she wears for battle off when she is training for an art she is going to use in battle. JS.

My post was about the "this vote is not a vote" post I was responding to, so I think the meta reasoning is fine, as votes are meta.

The "Dress integrates/synergieses with the Art" idea posted above by @PrimalShadow is not something I had considered when writing my post, and would absolutely fit to make the two choices different, but equally valid in the long term. Honestly, I like the idea and I hope it is true; if so, I am totally fine with either outcome being chosen, maybe 2% leaning towards my vote of "not with dress"

Also, how did you vote in the previous chapter? What justification can you make for your choice!?

i'm playing. :)

You... stealing-candy-from-baby-esque person!

Edit: Ohhhhh, right, I get what you mean by meta reasoning, my bad. Yeah AbelLogos wasn't using meta-reasoning in their post, I misunderstood them.

The way I see it Ling is gonna have a freak out the dress is taking her cultivation with no heads up whatsoever claustrophobia intensifies and she tries to remove it but it holds on and she freaks out more

Anyway, I don't have a problem with meta-reasoning per se - indeed I've pointed out the meta-reasons for both sides. My problem is more when one vote is almost entirely driven by meta-reasoning, while the other appears to be the one that would actually make sense IC.

Which is why I really like this:

as it is actually a plausible reason for Ling Qi to decide to train with her dress.

Building on that from a longer term picture w. regards to the concerns about foundation, the issues there would be that it potentially means we never get as good at flying on our own. The counterargument is that if we assume that Dress-chan is effectively going to end up as our mount and always be with us then that doesn't matter. And, hell, there's a reason we still see cultivators using mounts, even despite their personal mobility.
